I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

Hi all,

@OrderOfTheKookaburra that sounds like a really realistic goal of wearing a slinky malinki dress in December, if only the UK summer was that far away 🤣 i think holding items like a 5kg bag of potatoes is a really good way to see how far you've come as well, even 0.5kg can feel pretty weighty so it's a nice way to feel an achievement I think.

@BinnityBoo your Aus trip sounds amazing! I have never been but it is on my list of places I'd love to go, ideally for a good while to see lots of it. It's a really good timeframe for you to get close to your goal weight too.

@Saxendastarter thanks for the needle info! I totally get your desire to not want to squash into chairs anymore. Things like that have become a real fear for me over the last few years. Even though I've never not fitted in something or not had a seatbelt fit (just) I am so so scared of it, particularly when out with the kids at theme park places or flying for example. Today we have spent the bank holiday at a mini theme park type place and thankfully i just about fitted into everything but I am looking forwards to not having to worry about it!
I was really worried about over eating / eating really fatty food today but I think I've done well, I brought my own coffee and sugar free squash and had a baked potato, beans and salad from the cafe and that's been it which I'm really pleased about.
First official weigh day is Wednesday.

Starting Weight 101.5 kg/ 15 stone 14 lb
Week 1 loss: 2.3 kg/ 5 lb
Week 2 loss: 1.2 kg/2 1/2 lb
Week 3 loss: .4 kg /1 lb
Current weight: 97.6 kg/ 15 stone 5 lb
Weight lost to date: 3.9 kg / 9 lb
Goal Weight:70 kg / 11 stone
Time On Saxenda: 21 days
Dosage: Week 1 - .6; Week 2 - 1.2; Week 3 - 1.8; Week 4 - 1.2
Side effects: Constipation

Not as much of a weight loss this week, but I was still feeling constipated.

Today I added psyllium husks to my food rather than just filling up on Metamucil, and drank loads of water. Things shifted.... 😉
So I might weigh again tomorrow morning, you know, just because.

Got messages from Juniper and they've been affected by the shortage in Saxenda stocks, so they've requested everyone to go to 1.2 dosage, so this week I am going back down to 1.2 instead of moving up to 2.4 as scheduled. Their refills are going to reflect this dosage apparently. My refill was shipped out today so I will see what gets delivered. They are reducing the fee by half as well (actually, making the deduction every second month). I've got a few pens left anyway, so I'll be ok at this lower level hopefully. They said they are reducing the number of new members to make sure they have enough stock for existing members.

If I continue to feel sated at this level I might see about staying at this dose.

I will be focussing on my water intake this week, I haven't been drinking enough. Hopefully that will help deal with both the constipation and the weight loss, because if I look at what I'm eating, it is MUCH less than what I usually eat.

@BinnityBoo your holiday sounds fantastic. 7 months is a good length of time and you should make great progress!

@Bloodylovecrisps good luck with the weigh in tomorrow!

@Saxendastarter I wish I had all my old clothes, but moving from the UK to Australia I couldn't justify keeping it all. I did keep a few gorgeous dresses which I would love to fit into for the weddings. Will see. By then I might want to splurge on something new!

Saxendastarter · 02/05/2023 09:23

@OrderOfTheKookaburra i have my cleaning lady to thank for still having my clothes - if left them all in the wardrobe and got back one evening a few months ago to find a note from her saying that she’d sorted by size and packed everything under a size 14 into bags and put them in the cellar so I didn’t get upset trying to fit into them… I think she’d seen the look on my face one morning when she was in early and I was struggling to squeeze myself into an old dress … she’s a mix of lovely and very bossy and is a perfect fit for me. Honestly if she hadn’t of done it I’d of finished by black bagging the lot out of frustration and rage…

Im back at work this morning having a coffee on our work balcony and arrived to find a new airup bottle and tens of flavor caps on my desk with a note from my director that basically says in French “ you’ve got this” He knows I guzzle fizzy drinks all day so it was a really thoughtful gift… he might be a good’un after all! I really do wonder how much of my weight gain has been due to my endless work days… and I think he knows that!

OP posts:
Bloodylovecrisps · 02/05/2023 14:43

What a lovely thoughtful gift from your director! Please let me know what you think, I only ever drink sugar free squash so have considered an air up but I'd like to see what you think, there seems to be mixed reviews online.

Saxendastarter · 02/05/2023 15:00

@Bloodylovecrisps so far the two pods I've tried (apple and elderflower) taste good - makes a horrific noise when you drink though - so not good in front of people, I have an office on my own with a door that shuts thankfully because I couldn't use it in the open space. I've already had two full ones since this morning (2x 650ml) plus water with lunch ... The pods do seem very expensive though so I'll have to see how long they last.

Day 12

Breakfast:
Cappuccino

Snack
Black coffee
Water

Lunch:
Small plate of restaurant cheese ravioli
Fizzy water

Snack:
Water
Herbal Tea
Decaf coffee

Supper:
Virgin Mojito
Pint of white beer
Sugar free squash

I'm really starting to realize that my issues are going to be

  • Lunches out
I work on a massive campus and we really have little choice of nearby restaurants that are close enough and fast enough for lunch basically 2 propers yummy Italians, 2 not great bistrots, 2 greasy Chinese, 1 subpar crepe place. We eat out at work at least 3 times a week if not more and it really is an important "team moment" - its the time I get with my director to go over things or the time I get to catch up with whatever the team I'm having lunch with are up too ... there is no "good way" to avoid them.
  • My social drinking
I probably go out for drinks 2-3 times in the week as well at weekends - not necessarily more than 2 drinks at one sitting during the week but still. I managed to not touch the shared plate of cheese this evening, and had an alcohol free cocktail before having a drink - but it's still not great if I'm drinking my calories in the evening instead of eating them....

You are all doing much better with food than I am but it did 600m in the pool
🏊🏼‍♀️

B: toast x1 with butter and jam
L: boiled egg, Philadelphia, melon, grapes cucumber tomatoes free up and honey
T: half a chicken breast, 3 roast pot, swede and carrot mashed and broccoli Yorkshire pud, onion sauce.
Snacks: 2 butter biscuit like
Leibniz and half a titan bar!

TBF could be worse

justasmalltownmum · 02/05/2023 21:22

Started ozempic. So far used 2 doses, 2 weeks. Can someone share a pic of their pen please? Mine looks like it is full. (It doesn't look like 2 doses left)...

usernother · 02/05/2023 21:29

I've been using saxenda since the end of January but the last few weeks it seems to have stopped working, in that I've started feeling hungry again. I've googled this and it appears that this can happen because your body just gets used to it. Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have any idea if it's possible for it to start working again?

Saxendastarter · 02/05/2023 21:38

@cherrypied Wow! I'm jealous I'd love to have the courage to go swimming - the swimming pool is literally in the next building but I'm just too self conscious! I need to psych myself up to go - I could try Thursday evening because it closes at 9pm so I could just about make it for an hour after work instead of going out for drinks. I'm not sure I could manage 600 meters though, and I look like a drowning puppy when I swim.

Your food seems fine to me though- bit worried about the Titan bar as this is what comes up for me ( see picture) ;-)

@justasmalltownmum I think we're all mainly on Saxenda on this thread which is an everyday injection. However it is from what I know normal for you to have a lot left in your ozempic pen when you start - there was a pretty good explanation on one of the other threads - apparently it is the same pen as the 4 x .5 doses so its normal to have half left - I would stick my hand out to cut on this though.

I'm starting saxenda this week.

@usernother I've just started Saxenda, I'm less than two weeks in so I have no experience of this unfortunately. There is another thread on Saxenda on Mumsnet where people have been taking it for longer, maybe you might find the answer on there?

@Saxendastarter Grin

It's a fake Aldi mars bar!

Swimming was fine. I have no idea where I got the motivation to do it. I am unbelievable proud of myself.

Tagged along to husbands session (he goes 5 times a week and does a mile each time Confused) and I cannot believe it I loved it and I am overwhelmed that I have been four times in a week- started at 20 lengths and built up to 30. I and I proud as this so the first sustained effort at exercise I have enjoyed in over 10 years when I used to do gym and spin.

What's even better is the pool does 10 days of swimming for £10.

I'm starting saxenda this week.
Saxendastarter · 02/05/2023 22:13

@cherrypied amazing for the swimming ! Go you - if you stick at it you'll have lovely arms for slinky dresses too!

I will try Thursday ...

Thanks @Saxendastarter

Bloodylovecrisps · 02/05/2023 22:35

You've made me want to go swimming again, thanks @cherrypied! Swimming is the only sport I kept up in my adult life but it has been sparodic since having kids. I was swimming around 1.5k a few times a week even up to a year ago but now just getting my costume on would be a workout in itself! I have been wanting to go back though so this may be the push I needed 🏊‍♀️

Saxendastarter · 03/05/2023 09:33

Is anyone else just totally exhausted ? The tiredness is really really bad this morning and I'm having problems concentrating again. I have a really important meeting this afternoon and I'm just feeling so "fuzzy".

OP posts:
Glorfindels · 03/05/2023 12:01

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if I can join you, it is reassuring to hear from people in the same boat. I haven't told anyone in RL.

Started on Saxenda on 21/04- so similar timeframe to you all.

I have a lot to lose so hoping this is part of reframing my eating habits & resetting my relationship with food.

I was struggling with side effects- constant nausea- then I started getting cold, aches, pains, exhaustion, etc, then I tested positive for Covid! So I'm not sure what is a symptom of what?

Saxendastarter · 03/05/2023 16:39

Hi @Glorfindels ! Welcome. Sorry to hear about the covid and hope you’re not feeling too rotten.
Im not a HCP but i have had covid multiple times. I’d guess everything other than the nausea is covid … Are you still injecting ?

I also need to reset my relationship to food - and probably my whole relationship to life to be fair. So you’ll be in good company here

OP posts:
Glorfindels · 03/05/2023 17:03

@Saxendastarter Thank you for your kind words. Feeling much better today.

I carried on injecting, as at first I put it down to side effects, and vowed to push through in a very Monty python 'black knight' kind of way. With the loss of appetite and everything tasting strange I though it was working! DP was quite affronted when I accused him of putting sour milk in the coffee.

I'm calorie counting and looking to start a bit of exercise...but one thing at a time. I just need something to curb the hunger pangs & stop me binge eating.

To be accountable here are my stats:
Start weight: 129.27kg
Wk1:126.00kg
loss:-3.27kg

If I look at it as a whole it's such an over whelming amount- so trying to go for mini targets- 5% of start weight first target. 6.5kg

I hope everyone has a good week.

Saxendastarter · 03/05/2023 17:32

@Glorfindels Well done! That’s an amazing loss. I’m also trying to do small goal by small goal - I want to be under 90 for the end of May and hope it will happen ( need to loose 5kg by then).

I'm starting saxenda this week.

Hi all and welcome @Glorfindels!

I had my first weigh in today and I have lost 5.6lbs (2.5kg) which I am so pleased with!
My lovely boss came in with a latte and cake for me this morning to thank me for helping her with something recently. It was so kind but I didn't know what to do. I panic text my husband who said drink the coffee and I'll eat the cake tonight so that's what I did and he was happy to have cake tonight! 🤣
Hope you're all having a good evening.
