I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

@Saxendastarter It sounds like you are in a really lovely place with FPOTM, it is so nice to hear. New shoes are always great- especially ones for a big adventure.

Make sure to get some merino wool socks too.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences Yes, it does take a little while to kick in, different for everyone, but I definitely felt it at 1.8.

@BinnityBoo I understand about the feeling down & flat about it all. I worked out this morning about how much to lose to put me in the healthy BMI bracket and it feels utterly unobtainable. I am (desperately) trying to reframe it to think that it is one year & how quickly a year goes by, it will all be worth it in the end.

Hoping everyone else is having a good week.

I'm still calorie counting, but need to work out a much better exercise routine. I'm thinking maybe challenging myself to walk 100 miles in July, which doesn't sound much- but will give me a target to work towards. Back of my mind is then moving onto C25K.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 28/06/2023 20:52

@Saxendastarter your update really made me smile 😊

Yesterday appears to have been a blip, am back to my preferred version of me today. I did graze on sweets a bit but not because I was hungry or food chatter, more because I'd brought them in for everyone as it was the last day on my team before moving to a new job. Delicious curry for dinner cooked by DH, managed to stick to much smaller portion size than the old me and still enjoy my meal with my family.

Tried on a shirt I've not worn in 3 years and it fits again! Buttons not straining or anything - definitely a confidence boost given I'm still carrying the regained weight from last weekend's fun.

Hello all waves
Just checking in, am reading updates and lurking.
2 weeks 2 days until my doctors appointment.

I met a friend today who told me she had tried ozempic and had suffered such anxiety, she had to stop. It's playing on my mind a bit, if I am honest.

I'm trying to be good but it's so goddamnit hot. Today I had lunch by the lake (I am still on medical leave), which was amazing.

I'm starting saxenda this week.
Saxendastarter · 29/06/2023 07:02

@Glorfindels i shall add those socks to my list !
@Everdecreasingcircumferences Good luck with the new role/job !
Hi @justsaxy So jealous of your lakes! Hope the recovery from the op is going well. What are you reading ?

I just finished a Jenny Eclair book. I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would, sadly, and had to really push myself to finish it.

Am just about to start 'In The Middle of Middle America' by David B. Lyons. A friend highly recommended it.

Off for a control with my surgeon today. It's been 4 weeks! Am trying to get out and about every day but it's hard in the heat.

I can't remember who wrote the previous post about feeling the amount of weight to be lost felt unobtainable. When faced with things like that, I always try to keep in mind 'how do you eat an elephant? One mouthful at a time.'

We can do this! (I am looking at it as 3, possibly 4 lots of 10 kilos)

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 29/06/2023 09:56

@justsaxy I love that eating elephant quote!

OP that's a very long day, no wonder a maccies was needed at the end of it. I too enjoy raspberries as a snack, wjat are everyone else's go-tos for snacks if they get a strong craving for something sweet? I often carry a bag of protein balls on me (not UPF, mainly just whey, cashew nuts, grape juice and dark chocolate) and they usually takes the edge off my worst cravings - but not always.

I've had a letter from the weight management service, need to book onto a session so I can learn about how to lose weight through diet - if I don't book on they'll discharge back to my GP. Will see if they have anything new to tell me other than eat less, stick with low fat foods and diet drinks and eat 5-7 fruit/veg per day (ie the same advice the NHS has stuck with for many years that works for some but clearly not for most). I need to play their game if I want their help, but appreciate I am unlikely to get the help I want from them (ie saxenda, or wegovy once it becomes available in UK).

upanddownandupanddown · 29/06/2023 20:51

Can we talk about side effects? Aware I don’t want to get hidden! My side effects are of a gastrointestinal nature; the sort that make you run……

Was pretty bad today. I upped my dose to 1.8 yesterday and feel like it’s really started kicking in; I’ve not had an appetite all day. But the side effects are not nice.

Do I persevere, in the hope it will get better? Or do I drop back the dose (where it is not as effective at reducing appetite). I’m taken some Imodium so hopefully I’m not up in the night with it again.

Thoughts and experiences welcome!

Saxendastarter · 29/06/2023 21:23

@upanddownandupanddown I had the opposite side effect - I persevered and most of the side effets subsided after about two weeks .... I needed the higher dose for the appetite suppression. I'm not sure what I'd do in your shoes. Can you possibly give it a few days to see if things calm down?

@justsaxy loving that elephant quote too.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences I hope the WMS appointment goes okay even if you do have to play along.

Day 68

Breakfast
Black Coffee
water
Greek yogurt with jam

Lunch
Tomate farcie
water

Snack
chocolate waffle and snack pack of mini cookies
water

Supper
4 beef and cheese yakitori
5 salmon cheese maki
Kamboucha

@Saxendastarter your foods always sound so fancy!!
Here is my boring day in comparison!!

Breakfast: nil
Lunch: chicken and avocado salad with vinaigrette dressing
Dinner: pasta, sauce, cheese

Drinks: sugar free vimto.

That's it. Sounds shit in comparison!

Saxendastarter · 29/06/2023 22:34

@ThisMustBeMyDream I think it's just a mix of French food and big city food and the fact that I order and eat out a lot ( I get food vouchers from work).... And I did have Macdo yesterday!!!

Chicken avocado salad sounds lovely.

OP posts:
ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/06/2023 22:35

@Saxendastarter I confess to not knowing half of the foods you post! They do sound lovely though!
My mugshot for lunches pale in comparison 🤣. Today was a fancy lunch for me 🫣.

Start of week eleven and weigh in number 10 here

Weight loss this week : 0.5kg (1.1lbs)
Current Weight 87.5kg (13st 10.9lbs)
Total weight lost to date 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs)

Starting Weight 96.8kg ( 15st 3.4 Ibs)
Goal Weight 70kg (11st)
Time On Saxenda 67 days
Total percentage of weight loss so far 9.5%
Total weight to loose when starting 26.8kg ( 4st3lbs)
Total weight remaining to loose 17.5kg
Side effets Tiredness / really down this week
Goal for end of July 83kg
Dose 3mg - the full dose
Starting BMI 34.3
Current BMI 31
Average loss per week on Saxenda 0.9kg (1.9lbs)

As I didn't weight last week I've actually lost only 500g these last two weeks - which is pretty slow going ... That said I don't know why but I'm happy to be under 88kg - also I "only" have 0.8kg to go to have lost 10kg and I'll be a third of a way to where I want to go. Even if it's long, with this thread with anyones company and encouragement it seems doable. If I continue at the same rate I'll sort of reach my goal by the end of the year, and that seems okay.

I'd like to thank you all for sharing here and keeping me company and hearing me out - if it wasn't for this sounding board I'd have given up long ago.

Here's my table and my up down graphs - Since the start, this week and what it looks like on the scale of the whole journey.

And also, I'm not actually a fan of the airup - because I'm weird about noises - and I have it and quite a few pods - if anyone would like it I will clean it up and post it to them - I'm popping over to London for a day soon (for work) so can post it from the UK so it doesn't have to go through post Brexit customs. Let me know by PM if you're interested.

I had a non scale victory this morning. I bought a pair of jeans over last winter, and this morning is the first time I've put them on as I pretty much exclusively wear dresses in summer so I don't really notice weight loss and gain quite the same as in fitted clothing. Well, last time I had them on they were very snug. Today they are lovely and loose on me! Super comfortable, and probably be too big before much longer hoorah!
I've taken my first comparison pictures as well, as I took my first picture in jeans I thought I may as well take another in them today. Starting pic 16st 13.5, today's pic 15st 10. 7 weeks difference. I can totally see difference in these pictures, yay!!

I like that thought! I'm going to keep that in mind today!
Still feeling chuffed at the difference even hours later. It really is the little things that boost morale 😁.

Glorfindels · 30/06/2023 11:39

@ThisMustBeMyDream You really can tell a difference, congratulations.

@Saxendastarter Well done on your loss- keep chipping away! Thank you to you also for starting the thread- I have found it hugely helpful too.

@upanddownandupanddown I hope your side effects are lessening a bit. I had the opposite problem (TMI) which seems to have sorted it self out over a few weeks, so it might just be time.

@justsaxy Great advice about the elephant, and chunking it into smaller lumps. I'm always after a good book recommendation, In the middle of American looks interesting. I'm reading the third Richard Osman book, I like the easy read nature of them.

Glorfindels · 30/06/2023 12:11

Weekly Weigh-in

Start weight: 129.27kg
Today's Weight: 112.21kg
Loss: 1.27kg (2.8lb)
Total Loss: 17.06kg (37.6 lb)
Sax dose:- 1.8ml

Target weight 68kg- (but okay with 75kg)

Target is to get to the 3 stone mark by 14/07, which will be the 12 week mark & then I have an event.

This week's positives- I have officially gone down a size-both tops & bottoms. Definitely feel more energetic after weeks of feeling drained and shattered-the light headedness seems to have stopped too.

Next week my aim is to actually do more exercise rather than drone on about having not done any (and finish my dissertation presentation)-which basically means 'stop the bloody procrastinating'!!

Keep positive everyone.

Saxendastarter · 30/06/2023 12:20

Wow @Glorfindels thats a 13.2% loss on your starting weight in 10 weeks! Amazing. Your must be feeling and looking amazing.

Good luck with the writing the dissertation ... When I have a big write up to do I always start the morning listening to this

Good luck!

@ThisMustBeMyDream I can see a difference! And I agree with @Saxendastarter , double digits in kilos is the way forward!

@Glorfindels well done.

I do find this thread really motivational. I hate computers and don't understand how everyone makes these graphs, so I might have to draw myself some.

My kids go with my mum (who had been here for a month to take care of us all while I recover) to the UK. So I will measure and start documenting everything then. For some reason, I can't bring myself to do it while my mum is here? (Very little privacy in our apartment).

Do you all follow accounts on instagram too? I get real pleasure watching their numbers go down.

A little weight loss humour for the day! Grin

Saxendastarter · 30/06/2023 13:13

@justsaxy très drôle! Also works when cutting toxic people out of ones life!

(for the non francophones the caption says "congrats you've lost 63kg".

So - I'm working from home - I always have the same amazon delivery guy - probably see him once a week (bad I know - but the shops are mostly shut when I get out of work) ... And he's a young kid and kind and I always tip him to alleviate my amazon guilt and if its hot offer him a bottle of cold water and if I have other people in the apartment ask if he needs to use the loo ...

And today, I opened the door and this probably 20/21 year old told me "beh ça commence a se voir bien bien là votre perte de poids - franchement top Mme, bravo" which roughly translates as ... "Hey, your weightloss is starting to be really really visible - really top, well done madame"

It wasn't flirty at all from the tone and he always "Madames'" me so it wasn't creepy at all ... it's made me so happy I'm having to post here before getting back to work because it's stopping me from concentrating.
