Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

I’m experiencing horrendous side effects with sulphur eggy burps and nausea so severe it feels like sea sickness. I physically can’t even keep my eyes open for long either.

I’m seriously considering giving it up because it’s making me feel like I have stomach flu.

DaisyDieter · 09/05/2023 21:21

Forgot to say, I’m actually getting embarrassed at work as the sulphur egg smell is definitely making people notice.

Fortheloveofus · 10/05/2023 13:16

Hi all, hope you're well. Just a quick update. 4th weigh in. Lost 5lb in a month and that's been an circuitous struggle/route to lose that so still not sure if its kicked in for me yet properly but still a loss so happy with that for now. Was supposed to start 0.5 today but only injected 0.25 again this morning as I'm nervous of side-effects coming back. Not ordered new pen yet but seem to have plenty left. Done four 0.25 injections and one 0.12 and liquid does not appear to have depleted at all. See how it goes this week and then may start 0.5 next week or inject another 0.25 closer to weekend if no appetite suppression again

SarahC50 · 10/05/2023 18:15

@Fortheloveofus that's a good start your weight loss. I've just taken my third 0.5mg and can see a big difference in appetite suppression since moving to the 0.5mg. I'm not hungry and have to remember to eat enough to get to 1500 calories. I'm not hungry for dinner or in the evening which is an alien concept for me. Your plan sounds good I certainly after my fourth 0.25 felt hungry again and apart from bad nausea after my first 0.5mg I've been fine x

Fortheloveofus · 10/05/2023 18:20

Thank you @SarahC50. I'm just being a coward, I think. I can't be disappointed with weight loss if I'm not sticking to regime. I might take the other 0.25 tonight

Cabbage4eva · 10/05/2023 21:17

@Fortheloveofus I can't speak to how the 0.5 will affect you but I think a steady slow weight loss is decent place to be, so long as the side effects are manageable. I'm down 3 lbs in 3 weeks and while it's not as much as I wanted, it is a steady downward march. When I project out three or four months, I'm excited to see where it's heading. If you are doing 5 lbs in a month then you are down a stone in three months.

Fortheloveofus · 10/05/2023 21:33

@Cabbage4eva thank you. I know exactly what you're saying and you're right. I'm not feeling any side effects on 0.25 so feel safe at this dose. I wemt through 2 awful weeks of side effects in week 2 & 3 and not sure i could go back there. If I lost another 5lb this coming month, I'd be really pleased and be at a weight I've not been at for years. Let's face it, without Oz, I could be 5lb heavier than my starting weight instead so all good

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 10/05/2023 21:41

Start of Week 5 check in for me...I decided to stick with my .25 pen instead of opening my 0.5 pen, there's loads left still and .25 seems to be doing the job still. I am 1 whole stone down, can't quite believe it. Not noticing much difference yet in how clothes fit me. I would like to lose another 1-1.5 stone. Still having trouble sleeping but no other adverse effects. I feel very fortunate ozempic seems to work well at a low dose for me, im never usually that lucky!

Fortheloveofus · 10/05/2023 21:51

Well done @PinkCosYouAreSoVery. I wouldn't feel pressure to move onto a higher dose if you're happy with results you're having so far. We're at same stage and even though I've not lost as much as you, I'm going to stick at 0.25 for at least another week. Have loads left in my first pen too, although thinking bout ordering 2nd if there are supply issues? Anyone having any problems with supply ATM? Also, I think I read somewhere Juniper no longer doing discount codes - is this true?

MedievalMadness · 10/05/2023 21:57

Wow pink that's a pretty amazing result so far. Really pleased for you. My 4 week weigh in is on Fri. Appetite much more under control but have started getting discomfort in the area which I think is the left kidney so am a bit concerned. I have normal kidney function and the juniper doctor was ok with the results of my most recent blood tests but I do have hydronephrosis in that kidney. I don't ever get pain or any symptoms though so am going to check with the personal coach online tomorrow. So hope I don't have to stop taking it 😬

Daisy those side effects sound really rough . Have you been in touch with anyone for advice from the company you get it through?

Just a reminder to everyone to take multivitamins. A friend of mine is about eight weeks ahead of me and has lost a significant amount of weight - and also hair. Her GP said that this is common and can be avoided if multivitamins (esp those with higher mineral content) are taken from the beginning. I have shitty fine hair as it is.

Mephisneon · 11/05/2023 08:32

I did my first injection on Tuesday afternoon. I've seen people on social media talk about ozempic reducing food noise. I think that's a really good way to put it.

For example I have to go to a different town for a meeting this afternoon and if be thinking about if I could go any where different to pick up some lunch. But I'm just not particularly bothered.

It's very early days but I do feel my appetite is reduced. But I do have a headache!

hotelmotelpremierinn · 11/05/2023 09:46

Did anyone feel totally different in the second week to the first? So first week I was really unbothered by food but this week I'm kind of back to normal.....

AncoraAmarena · 11/05/2023 14:23

I've just taken my third Ozempic dose (0.25). This is really daft, but I didn't feel the needle at all, the last two times it has stung slightly.

If I hadn't actually put the needle in then there would have been fluid on my thigh wouldn't there? I definitely moved the pen to 0.25, pressed it until it went to 0 and then slowly counted to 6. If I hadn't injected then I would know - wouldn't I?

kkr168 · 11/05/2023 14:32

@hotelmotelpremierinn 1st week I literally didn't feel hungry at all, week 2-4 pretty much back to normal. I'll be doing my 1st .50 jab today, hopefully the feeling from week 1 returns.

@AncoraAmarena I find that if I watch the needle go in it hurts, if I'm not looking then I don't feel it at all, clearly all in my head😂

AncoraAmarena · 11/05/2023 14:35

@kkr168 😆 I know what you mean, I have to psych myself up to do it. I did watch though but didn't feel a thing. No fluid was on my leg though, so hopefully it did go in!

DaisyDieter · 11/05/2023 16:51

Hi all, I'm sadly ending my ozempic journey. The effects are deliberating on me. I've had shaking, vomiting, nausea, constipation- and those god awful sulphur side effects. It's usually for 1/2 days after I take Ozempic, it then calms down only to continue when I take the next dose.

I'm also sad as I have half a pen left and a pack of needles that will remain unused, but such is life and it's a learning curve.

Sorry it didn’t work out for you Daisy, I had exactly the same experience. Now I’m wondering if I should have stuck it out for longer but it’s so hard when you get awful side effects. The sulphur burps are embarrassing and nasty and I had nausea & vomiting too - all on 0.25mg!
Hope you find another way they works for you to lose weight

Fortheloveofus · 11/05/2023 17:19

@DaisyDieter I'm sorry it hasnt been right for you. Its obviously not for everyone and affects people differently and to varying degrees. It's disappointing for you but at least you know you tried. I hope you find something that leads to successful and sustainable weight loss for you 💐

SarahC50 · 11/05/2023 20:29

@Mephisneon thankyou for the tip re multivitamins my hair is already thin and fine with a menopausal bald patch!!!

@DaisyDieter I don't blame you stopping, those side effects sound intolerable especially the sulphur burps it must have been horrible, hopefully you'll feel better soon

@Fortheloveofus I don't think you are a coward at all,all our personal circumstances and situations and reasons for being on ozempic are complex. Previously I've always thrown the towel in at six weeks with a diet. I get frustrated by my lack of progress and am always looking for the next fad. I'm determined for ozempic to work, last chance saloon etc so I am following the dosing regime and advice from my health coach to a tee. I'm so bored of being myself and boring myself with my bad eating, fatness and feeling like a failure. I really hope come late summer we are all on this page still and all making good progress xxxxcx

Fortheloveofus · 11/05/2023 20:34

@SarahC50 thank you. I get the whole being bored of being who and what I am. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us all x

Luckingfovely · 11/05/2023 22:43

@DaisyDieter so sorry it didn't work for you. I'm on week 4 and haven't seen the scales move much. I need to order a new pen but supply seems very limited, so if you want to sell yours on and lessen the financial waste, I'd be happy to do that.

Not having dreadful side-effects but I am feeling exhausted all the time - do we think that's likely to be this drug causing?

kkr168 · 11/05/2023 22:54

Just taken my 1st .50 injection!! We've booked a last minute weekend away with friends this weekend & am now wishing I'd stuck to the .25 dose, in case I encounter nasty side effects.

No nasty side effects on .25 dose other then a nasty metallic taste soon after injecting, it has always gone by the time I wake up in the morning, so hopefully .50 is the same.

MedievalMadness · 11/05/2023 23:10

Daisy Those side effects don’t sound tolerable. That’s the thing, none of know how we will react . I’m not sure I’m going to be able to carry on as I have a constant heavy feeling in my left kidney which I’ve not had for as long as I can remember. I have hydronephrosis (a stretchy kidney that retains urine) which doesn’t cause me much bother so I don’t think it’s coincidental that this has just happened and that it’s nothing to do with Ozempic. I’ll be so disappointed if I have to stop because of that. I was supposed to go up to 0.5 next week.

kkr168. Good luck after .5. Really hope you are able to enjoy your weekend break 🤞🏼
