Good morning, had my first ever shot last night. Don’t feel any side effects yet. Is this normal?

Hi, I've been dipping in and out of this thread for a while and finally started on Ozempic a week ago. I have had no side effects but equally, have lost all of a pound so far. Usually I woosh with water loss week 1 of a diet and lose loads. Im a bit thrown by the lack of anything happening. I started on 0.5...shall I double up for todays dose or just try to be more patient!?

Twilightstarbright · 13/04/2023 08:29

@Simplepink i started last night and had my morning coffee with no issues. I’m feeling very full but no other side effects yet.

If you look back through the thread at the half life info, and how the drug needs to build up in your system, you’ll see it’s gradual over a number of weeks. Starting on 0.25 is the recommended dose, many people won’t feel the effects at this level as it’s more about gradually building it up in your body rather than flooding it. I definitely wouldn’t double up on week 2, especially having started at 0.5. I’m starting today, and am mentally preparing myself to not worry about losing anything for the first few weeks. I don’t think the first few weeks are a given.

Peridot1 · 13/04/2023 08:55

@TFM - yes as @LemonPledge555 suggests please read back through the thread you will see lots of people don’t feel any change at the beginning. And it takes time to build up in your system. Just trust the process.

You took a risk starting at 0.5mg. This is not advisable unless someone has previously been on a very similar drug.
The side effects don’t necessarily start in week 1 or 2 but they can be severe which is why people are advised to start on the minimum dose of 0.25 so your body can adjust to the drug slowly.

Beenalongwinter · 13/04/2023 09:17

I am sure I read the 6-8 weeks is when your body reaches what they call
Stead state but that's starting at .25.

Hi,

I’ve just ordered my first course after getting on the scales and being heaviest ever. 🙈

i was wondering whether there’s a specific thread for newbies or if it’s ok to jump in with questions and chat on this thread.

Been on MN for nearly 16 years so know etiquette is important 😉

many thanks

mumwheresmyribena · 13/04/2023 09:19

@TFM if you were prescribed antibiotics, insulin, malaria meds or anything else, would you disregard the dosing instructions? The research, the approval and the safety data are all based on the safest maximum dosage at a particular time in your treatment. All of this talk of going off-piste and deciding your own treatment regime is utter and total madness, especially as many of the people suggesting seem to have zero idea exactly how the drug works. The reason for the 4 week regime on each dose has been discussed and explained as has the way it works and the fact that the drug isn't actually an appetite suppressant ad-nauseum (apt!). Please look back on this and other threads and research how the drug works and how best to eat while taking it, it's not a magic bullet, you need to do your part too
** Actually, apologies if I sound tetchy @TFM it's not particularly you, you just got the brunt of it. But there's so many people who don't seem to want to do the research to get the best or of the drug and may be damaging their chances (and their health) because of it.

I think this is a good thread for you as it includes new people as well as people who have been on it a while, or tried it and it wasn’t for them. There is another thread for people a few months in.
The mixture of people on this thread means newbies can ask questions and get some good answers, so Welcome to the thread 😊

mumwheresmyribena · 13/04/2023 09:27

The dosing instructions from the manufacturer's website. This is the dosing regime that all of the reseach, approvals and safety data is based on. I've included a screenshot of the 3 ways the drug works too.

@mumwheresmyribena No offence taken, kick up the bum needed. I can be very gung ho about things some times.

However, I don't normally totally disregard dosing guidelines, so having checked I did in fact start at 0.25 so apologies for raising peoples blood pressure with my total lack of on-the-ball-ness here!

Clearly I do need to read the whole thread rather than dipping in and out as I have been doing, so that will be today's job, and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to tell me off - I needed it!

Twilightstarbright · 13/04/2023 09:54

Apparently all the WhatsApp support groups on Manual are full.

LemonPledge555 · 13/04/2023 10:05

@Twilightstarbright how are you feeling today?

shame about the WhatsApp groups!

mumwheresmyribena · 13/04/2023 10:11

@TFM 🙏 Thank you for your kind reply. You might also take a look at the "few months in" thread, it's lower traffic and has quite a bit of useful info.

Sameiam · 13/04/2023 10:26

Here’s a fun graph of how much is in your system every day. You can see by the fourth 0.25 dose you’re actually hitting 0.5 in your system after you do, due to the roughly week half life ozempic has.

I just modelled it on the standard four weeks on each of the low doses before moving up to 1.

SilkySuky · 13/04/2023 10:54

@Sofitella I was on 3mg for the first month, now up to 7mg as per the recommendations on the health express website which is who I buy from.
I'm tracking everything and am high protein, also in line with the advice.
These threads are a mine of good information for newbies.

Twilightstarbright · 13/04/2023 11:11

@LemonPledge555 I feel fine- full like I’ve had a full meal but I’ve just eaten a banana as I had a coffee and I’d get the shakes otherwise!

I’m a bit disappointed with the WhatsApp groups as it was part of the reason why I chose Manual.

It feels like there are a few of us who have started this week or are planning to do so, so I guess we can be our own group.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 13/04/2023 11:24

I started Saxenda with Juniper on Tuesday (Australia - Ozempic isn't licensed for weight loss use yet). Daily injections which I've done just before bed. Woke up Wed with next to no appetite, but felt freezing all day, actually out an oil bar heater under my desk while working. Went under my duvet after work and after 2 hours my feet still felt like blocks if ice. I used meal replacement shakes for 2 meals and felt no desire to snack.

Today, not as cold, still hardly any appetite. Only needed one replacement shake - which got rid of the headache (which I assume was sugar withdrawal, particularly after all the Easter chocolate).

Not loving having to inject every day. Think Ozempic might be licensed in May and wondering whether I could/should change at that point?

MedievalMadness · 13/04/2023 11:28

im still waiting for an update from DPD to show my order is out for delivery . I’m hoping it will be here tomorrow or Saturday. I’ve got to do some shopping today. Has anyone any suggestions for meals, snacks that are good when starting it? Did you have smaller more frequent meals or just 3 small meals? How much water did you drink?

Twilightstarbright. It would be great to have a mini group of anyone who has just started or is about to.

Fortheloveofus · 13/04/2023 11:30

Thank you for all your replies and apologies for not answering earlier - busy morning.
I'm not convinced I did it right at all. Now it not sure if I primed OR counted to 6 when doing the injection. I think I did it too late, was tired and not concentrating properly.
I've not eaten yet but that's normal if I'm specially of a morning. I don't feel particularly hungry either. No nausea or any other side effects.
I'll give it a day or two to see how I feel. Don't want to inject again, which might mean I've started at .5 instead of .25.
