oh dear. Looks like we are all suffering diet fatigue.....

Who's got some inspirational summer recipes?

I'm going to freeze some unsweetened apple and mango juice later for some low point ice lollies later.

Also might knock up a salad using beetroot (0 points), rocket, pepper and maybe some low fat grilled halloumi cheese.

Also - something I've been slacking in recently - DRINK LOTS OF WATER LADIES!

Oooh - bbqs

Chicken kebabs with a lime & coriander dressing is NICE!

Potato salad made with low fat creme fraiche OR low/no fat fromage frais and fresh snipped chives.

Ditto coleslaw.

Ags · 13/05/2008 14:28

Hi all, sorry everyone is feeling a bit blah! You know, despite the old saying, we are not what we eat and a bad week does not make you a failure!

Has anyone had chicken with Reggae Reggae marinade on the barbie? Seriously gorgeous. And my dh made a fab stir fry (on the bbq with his special bbq wok thing) with pak choi, mushrooms, peppers, onions, baby corn, sugar snap peas, mung beans, garlic, chilli, thai fish sauce, soya sauce and a teaspoon of oil. He served it with a steak and my plate was piled high but it was ridiculously low in points.

Do you think I might be thrown off this thread if I tell you I lost 3lbs this week? Please let me stay!

Ags, I bought some of that reggae reggae marinade on the weekend and it is delicious! Very spicy! I am still on my virtually fat free diet so am glad of anything that will spice up my food and add flavour for no fat content

Ags · 13/05/2008 14:59

Ta Fio! So I can stay then?!

Mammyjo, did you see the guy who makes the sauce on Dragon's Den? He is obviously doing well now it is in the supermarkets. I love the fact that he made it in his own kitchen to sell at the Notting Hill CArnival befoe getting the funding on Dragon's Den to set up a larger operation.

ShortandSweet · 13/05/2008 15:51

Wow ags 51 pound. Thats amazing. Whats your secret

mammyjo · 13/05/2008 16:02

Ags, I did see him on Dragon's Den but had never actually seen the sauce on the supermarket shelf until last week. Worth the wait though!

Ags · 13/05/2008 16:21

Thanks Short. I have had a long conversation with my Mum today trying to explain what is different this time. It is almost impossible to work out. I have tried and failed so many times. These are the things that are most important for me :-

  1. I have had two yummy children and don't want any more. So in a way I feel I am ready and my body is mine and won't be affected by pregnancy again.
  1. I eat only what I like. I hate feeling deprived so that means a large portion of something delicious. I try not to waste points on anything that will not taste nice.
  1. I always have a treat every day. Mostly a Crunchie which I leave til night time. Children asleep, me with my Crunchie and cup of coffee. Bliss.
  1. I do not apologise for what I eat. Previously I would always try to 'fit in' and fool myself that it would be rude not to eat the cakes/chocolate/take away etc. I am more than happy to be in the company of people who eat them, indeed I am happy to serve them but I don't eat them anymore.
  1. I have recognised that I could excuse every single emotion, occasion, bad day, good day, morning, afternoon, evening as an excuse to eat unhealthily. So, I have stopped saying things like "this was a bad week because I went to a wedding". Instead, I try to save points through the week, indulge in whatever I feel like at the event and then get straight back to healthy eating the next day. If I stay the same that week or only lose a half I have done well.
  1. I tend to do the 'breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper' thing. It seems to suit my digestion to eat lightly after 6pm.
  1. I started at 21 stones 4 pounds so I have a very large amount of weight to lose - almost 10 stones to get inside my healthy weight range! I have tended to focus only on my interim goals (indeed initially my 10% seemed too big a goal to focus on) like each half stone, dropping from one stone to another (ie going from 18stone 1 to 17 stone 13), going up another digit in pounds lost (ie going from 48 pounds lost to 51 pounds lost). If there is a numerical goal to be found, I will find it. I also keep a spreadsheet in excel of my weekly weight loss with the milestones highlighted and a projection of future weight loss based on an average 2 lb loss per week. I know, completely sad but this all spurs me along. I can look ahead and hope that, all going well, by August when I go to Ascot, I will be in the 16 stone range!
  1. I write off a bad day and get straight back into the good eating. I don't focus on what I already ate and concentrat instead, on saving points to make up for it.

I am sorry, this is far too long but after a long chat with Mum today, this stuff is very much in my mind and it is cathartic to write it all down.

Having said all this, I am still crossing my fingers every week hoping my bubble doesn't burst and hoping that if it does I will be able to mend it. Also, I have yet to get into an exercise regime which is essential. Any tips would be welcome. I am a seriously lazy cow!

Fio, no meds this time but I used Xenical in one of my previous abortive diets years ago. Yeah agree on the writing, I actually copied and pasted my post into my sad little spreadsheet so it could remind me!

Colditz, serious weight loss this week! Well done. Welcome back to the waist!

Ags · 13/05/2008 17:34

Ags I cycle to and from work 4 days a week, and go to aqua areobics once a week.

Plus when I am off Friday, Sat, Sun I am always up an out walking with my daughter. But I haven't had any great weight loss in recent weeks.

Squiffy · 14/05/2008 09:18

Well done Ags & Colditz. Brilliant to reach such milestones

mammyjo · 14/05/2008 12:22

Fab news Colditz!! My bmi has come down from 40 to around 34 now which I am so pleased about. Look forward to getting below 30!

Ags, your post made very good reading. For some reason I feel different about things this time too. I have never kept going with any plan for this long before, and I do seem to have the ability to halt my bad day/week and get back to counting. I just hope that I can keep it up for the longer term as I feel so much better with the weight off, and I am loving the fact that I can get my arse into some size 16 bottoms!! Haven't done that for several years

Lenniegirl · 14/05/2008 14:38

Great post ags, v inspiring.

loler · 15/05/2008 10:42

Ags - thanks for sharing your secrets. It all makes lots of sense and I feel like cutting it and pasting somewhere to keep me going too. Your fist point about getting your body back is definately true. I think that I've probably been using the pg/baby thing as an excuse for a long time. I think now I've given up being pg that I realise I need to keep healthy for my babies. DD (4) commented that my tummy is really small now, she was creeping for something but it's nice to know that she can see it!

Colditz - what a week! Well done.

Am going to have to buy myself a pedometer - had one and can't find it. Think they are a good reminder to keep that body moving.
