Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

Thank you @Lndnmummy for setting this thread up.

@mummylondon16 sorry to hear that. Perhaps when Wegovy is available the higher doses will help.

I’m now just over a stone down in 4 months (first 2 months on 0.5 felt no effects and didn’t lose anything). Have found some whooshes and some short stalls but pretty happy with progress so far.
My only issue is the burps, bloating and general windyness (!) which in the past 2 weeks have been quite debilitating. Almost everything I eat is aggressively ‘fermenting’ inside of me. I have a limited low FODMAP diet anyway but think I must have picked up a tummy bug of some sort which isn’t going away due to the slow digestion that comes with Ozempic. I’ve tried digestive enzymes which help a bit but by the end of the day I genuinely look 8 months pregnant and in severe discomfort.

So have stocked up today on tons of bone broth, pro and prebiotics and general gut healing east to digest foods. The medication has been the first time in 9 years of strict dieting I have seen the scales move down more than a couple of pounds so am super keen to continue. Does anybody have any tips to deal with bloating and gas?

Not sure dietary wise to stop the gas accumulating but have you tried doing some yoga to ease the symptoms? That always helps me when I've got gas I need to get rid of Blush I use yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. I find lying on my back holding one or both knees to my chest and rocking backwards and forwards very beneficial.

@Twiglets1 @Peridot1 just wanted to say hi and thanks for all your help on the other thread

I've never posted but I've appreciated hearing other peoples journeys. Solidarity over the internet!

I thought I'd post on this thread as I'm at the other end of the journey. I've been taking it for a while and am at my target weight. I guess now the question is what to do. I've read conflicting advice. (My supplier is understandably keen to supply a 'maintenance' dose) but reading NICE's recommendations and my bank managers id like to at least tail it off.

Has anyone else reached this stage?

I had reached my goal weight (normal BMI, after losing 24% of my starting weight) in December 22, and took my last Oz just before Christmas. I didn't want to continue with it as I don't take any other medication at the age of 52, so didn't want to set a precedent. Also, the cost was not justified any more.

I noticed that for about a month I felt exactly the same as when on the medication, probably still had a lot in my system (had been taking it for 11 months). Then I started feeling more hungry, or rather, eating without an "off switch". I had to stop and think about quantities in advance of meal times, which I didn't need to during Oz. Even so, I allowed myself to freely enjoy several (quite a few, almost every weekend!) family/friend occasions in Jan and Feb, meaning alcohol and desserts/cakes, when I am ordinarily on low carb. When I finally weighed myself on the 1st March, I'd put on 3 kgs, still within normal BMI (just about!), and one of them is already gone now that I went back to proper higher protein+veg, low carb IF plan that I know works for me.

On the whole, I am very happy that I used Ozempic as it allowed me to reach normal BMI for the first time in my adult life. Taking it helped me to entrench a habit of healthier eating that I can return to even when I stray for a day/weekend. I would recommend it to anyone who has a lot of weight to lose, but just as another tool in the box, not as a magic wand. You still have to put in the work of learning to eat healthily and sustainably.

Thank you, that's very encouraging for those of us who have wondered how things go once you stop taking Ozempic.

orangelotus · 20/03/2023 14:48

lighterheart that is a very informative post.
well done on your achievement.

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 14:53

Thanks for that post @LighterHeart. Really useful. Well done on your loss.

Happierwithouthim · 20/03/2023 17:23

LighterHeart that's a great message to read with solid advice in it too.

MuMuMuuuum · 20/03/2023 18:30

Well done @LighterHeart that's an amazing achievement!

mumwheresmyribena · 20/03/2023 19:11

That's fabulous progress @LighterHeart, you must be so pleased. Thank you for your update.
Before Xmas and before Oz we'd started to use Green Chef meal boxes. When we first had them I was shocked at how small the portion sizes were. But it gradually dawned on me that meals were still sufficient to and it was my portion sizes that were way too big. We stopped having them for a while in January but I tried to learn my lesson and spent ages doing meal plans and recipes with what's not known as GC portions. We're back to GCing again now because we like them so much but I hope the portion size lesson stays with me when I finish the Ozempic journey. GC have low carb & keto options too, we tend to stick to mainly low carb because it generally works for both me and my 6ft, puts no weight on ever husband.

I read that there is a possibility of blockages with ozempic you might want to get checked out just in case ( I couldn’t post the link just Google ozempic blockage it’s a study from china)

as for the fermenting feeling I don’t get that on ozempic but it used to be awful before I gave up gluten. I found doing an elimination then taking glutamine plus probio7 probiotics helped ( those ones specifically were shown to reduce gas)

I notice my reflux type symptoms are worse when I drink fizzy orange and weirdly the thing that doesn’t cause issues is sugary sweets!

Radiodread · 20/03/2023 20:33

@Peridot1 thanks for the Manual link. Ordered and sav d myself £70 this month. Let's see how much Boots et al want for Wegovy when it comes into stock.

MaryPoppinjay · 21/03/2023 11:21

@mummylondon16 think you may be right. After a really bad night last night I think there may have been an obstruction/blockage. I’m hoping it’s moved through now but broth only today just in case.
I’ve been gf for years now as always had digestive issues due to adhesions from endometriosis. Will get some of the supplements you recommended though - thank you 🙏🏻

mumwheresmyribena · 23/03/2023 12:23

How are you getting on @MaryPoppinjay I hope you're feeling a bit better today.

orangelotus · 23/03/2023 16:07

i am still stuck at 12 stones despite being saintly . Low calorie low processed carbohydrates - maybe a bit much fruit? but only a plum and a satsuma per day
one week today i go on holiday and was really hoping to be in the 11's .
this is still obese but i thought psychologically it would be good. Still if not for this who knows i may have crept up to the 14's!!!
So nearly the weekend good luck to everyone and if i break through that barrier i'll be boasting about it on here!!!

RumNotRun · 23/03/2023 19:07

Woohoo, Numan have offered me the 20% discount for a further two months.

I'm still plateauing and it is so bloody frustrating. I know in the grand scheme of things I have had fantastic weight loss so far, both in terms of scales and tape measure, so a few weeks of not losing anything isn't terrible. I am rubbish at having patience though!

smm88 · 23/03/2023 19:28

@alwayscheery thanks

How much should it be for the first pen with the discount ?

MaryPoppinjay · 23/03/2023 19:42

Thanks so much @mumwheresmyribena feeling a lot better. Gave my body a day off (today is usually injection day) but back to it tomo.

Side note - I saw my Gynae yesterday and we chatted about Oz. He was pretty interested in it and generally positive. He checked with his pharma whilst I was there to see the actual cost of the meds and it is £130 a pen. So the companies selling this are making a decent mark up on this for anybody interested. Personally I don’t mind them making money as they are a business after all but do feel they should be adding a little more added value.

alwayscheery · 23/03/2023 19:42

@smm88 £129 I think and half price for vitamins I ordered the vitamin D

alwayscheery · 23/03/2023 19:47

smm88 · 23/03/2023 19:28

manual.co/r/U-zssqedIpja

I think it's £129 and 50% off anything else you order I ordered the vitamin D capsules , strangely described as strength capsules , which seems a funny name but the website is aimed at men perhaps that is why .

Anyway I am 5lb down in 6 days and over the moon so thank you to everyone who has posted their experiences.
