Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

Wow, impressive! Do you pay double for two pens a month or...?

You say you’re on Ozempic/Saxenda.

Which one are you on exactly, as they are different drugs.

Have a good weekend x

Laura856 · 18/03/2023 15:56

I’ve read you can only take it for two years.

It’s more that the research studies have only gone up to two years. Longitudinal data will be available in time.

Ozempic now, but I used Saxenda initially.

Peridot1 · 18/03/2023 16:02

@CheetahCheetah - that’s a great result for you but can you clarify what you are on? Ozempic and Saxenda are two different drugs.

@Laura856 - yes that’s true but @Lndnmummy set up this thread more for those of us who have been on it for a while as the other (helpful) thread is quite busy with people asking the same questions and asking for discount codes. We are happy to answer any questions but the other thread has most of the answers already.

Ozempic now (and mainly), but Saxenda initially.

We don’t really have thread police on Mumsnet. If someone wants to try something new then it’s usual to ask for advice off people who have already been down that road.

I agree, and there are 4 such threads packed full of really excellent advice. Alot of posters on this thread (such as @Peridot1 and @Twiglets1 to name a few) have dedicated alot of time to answering questions. There are 4 threads full of really usueful advice. I set up this particular thread so that those of us who have spent so much helping others, also have a space where our needs are met and our questions are answered. Or should we just be of service to everyone else?

We spent hours researching this medicine and have collectively put alot of our experiences and advice down on 4 full threads. I don't think it is a huge ask that new users, read those threads and let us have our space, for our needs here.

I agree with that @Lndnmummy there’s nothing wrong with you starting this thread or with directing people who are new to Ozempic to the other thread which is more relevant for them

I've found my people.

I'm 5.7 stone down - started on Sax then moved to this. I've been static for a couple of weeks but then had a good drop. Currently on holiday in Thailand and and starving to death - coeliac and Thailand is not a good mix ! Eating lots of fruit - luckily I'm not hungry

HolibobsinApril · 18/03/2023 23:04

Has anyone here travelled (flown) with a pen, in hand luggage? I'm going away next month and want to take my pen with me.

I get mine from London Slimming Clinic, shall I ask them for a prescription?

Peridot1 · 19/03/2023 07:33

@HolibobsinApril - I’ve taken mine no problem. No prescription. I put the needles in my checked bag but if you are only taking hand luggage once it is all in the box together which has your name on the prescribing label it will be fine. I took it out of my bag with my other liquids and put it in a tray. They seemed to think it was an epi pen. I think they are used to people carrying medications.

Margaritawithlime · 19/03/2023 07:57

I hope you don’t mind me asking a question to you all - I haven’t started (yet) but it’s the ‘old timers’ i think who could answer it best.
My concern is - unsurprisingly - cost. I wondered how much roughly you found yourself spending a month after you’ve been on it a while. Does it average out to ‘one pen’ so to speak? I’m trying to think long term as I have no doubt I’ll need to be on it for a while. Saving like crazy so I have the funds there but not sure how much of a cushion to build up so I don’t feel the pinch for a wee while.
thanks all.

Secretboringsister · 19/03/2023 08:00

I’m starting week 4. Too scared to weigh but clothes are looser. Will weigh tomorrow. Last I checked I was 11.8 need to be 9.5 at barely 5’5.

thanks for the thread

Peridot1 · 19/03/2023 08:04

It’s definitely not cheap @Margaritawithlime. I’m lucky in that I can afford it but I get that it’s a big thing for a lot of people. There does seem to be more competition now price wise from different suppliers so it’s possible to shop around a bit. It ends up being one pen a month but the higher doses are the same price as the lower doses so you can buy a higher dose pen and take a lower dose. There is a click chart that shows you how to do that. So a 1mg can be used for 0.5g doses. The first supplier I used was the Virtual Slimming Clinic and they started me on 0.5. I suppose I could have bought the 0.5 pen and taken the lower dose of 0.25 and made that pen last longer.

Margaritawithlime · 19/03/2023 08:10

@Peridot1 thank you that’s incredibly helpful.

welcome!! And that is a wonderful achievement. May I ask how long that has taken ?
Enjoy your holiday!!

@Lndnmummy thanks for setting this new thread up. Must admit I find it had to keep up with the original thread too. I'm dismayed at the volume of queries as I'm sure anyone that's seriously researched and read the threads wouldn't need to ask.

I'm on my 7th week now and have lost just under 12lbs, have around 3st to get into the healthy BMI range. My DP and I both restarted keto at beginning of Feb though he still doesn't know I'm also doing Oz, I would have probably only lost half of what I have on keto alone. He does really well on it and is now only 5lbs heavier than me whereas he's normally been around 2st heavier, I'd be devastated if I ended up being the heavier one so this is keeping me going!

@Peridot1 that's amazing that you haven't gained whilst being a little relaxed in Australia.

@CheetahCheetah that's good that Juniper are not charging you double for 2 pens, what dose are you currently on before increasing? I think I will titrate to 0.75 before moving to 1mg, hoping it stays effective for a while before needing to go higher, I might even stay on 0.5mg a little longer as appear to be fine on this just now.

I’ve been on 1.5mg. I did Saxenda up to the full dose, then 0.5mg Ozempic, then 1mg, 1.5mg and now 2mg. Juniper are definitely more expensive than other options, but they had a reliable supply when there was a shortage and it’s good value now I get 2 pens a month.

fatlassslim · 19/03/2023 10:59

I just lurk but the I started threads have become ridiculous with the requests for codes and repeating the same questions. The newbies need to start their own thread for codes because that's all they are interested in. There seems a huge influx of posters and I wonder if it is to do with the articles in the press recently? There are lots of threads about ozempic now in weight loss chat. It's gone a bit crazy.

MaireadMcSweeney · 19/03/2023 11:24

It's one pen per month. Around £150.

@Lndnmummy I agree about the original thread. The worst one I have seen is someone who hadn’t even clocked how to spell ‘Ozempic’ but still posting screenshots of them ordering it. It went something like this:

‘I have ordered Om…
^^
Sorry can’t spell it.’

Even those with the worst cases of dyslexia can copy letters down from a previous poster. It really concerned me.

Peridot1 · 19/03/2023 11:34

You are all so right about the current feeding frenzy. Some people don’t even seem to have read the thread they are on. I have been tempted a few times to just reply “asked and answered” to some questions!

@RebelGeek76 - I’m really pleased I didn’t gain. But thinking back I didn’t eat large amounts. Quite often shared a meal with my friend. We got used to ordering one main course and asking for an extra plate! Even if we were out for a coffee and were having a cake or pastry we’d share one. And I did a lot more walking than I do at home.

Athena51 · 19/03/2023 12:33

It's worrying. When I started taking it, it was relatively unknown and I had to really do my research (medical papers and the like). Now it's just "give me a code, how fast can I lose."
I've given long answers to people based on my knowledge and now pretty long term experience and not even had a thanks in response. That's just bloody rude 😕

Peridot1 · 19/03/2023 12:37

Completely agree @Athena51. I read about it first in the DM and then researched as much as I could. Now people just see it as a quick fix and forget (or don’t want to know) that it’s a serious drug with potentially serious side effects.

CheetahCheetah · 19/03/2023 12:46

Have any of you started a maintenance phase yet? That’s the bit that gives me most anxiety.

Peridot1 · 19/03/2023 12:56

@CheetahCheetah - I don’t think so. I posted on this thread yesterday I think about my plan going forward. Basically we need to remember if we eat the way we did to gain the weight we will do that again. So you definitely need a plan.
