Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

@LittleDitto I take B12 for tiredness/fatigue. I have no idea if it works, I started to take them on (acecdotal) recommendation as I started Ozempic - but I haven't suffered tiredness or exhaustion 🤷🏼. YMMV, but it's freely available, cheap and it's impossible to overdose.

Movinghouseatlast · 16/05/2023 13:17

Has anyone taken Ozempic to a hot country? I'm going to Greece and for about 12 hours when I first arrive I won't be able to refrigerate the pen and it will be over 30 degrees.

I'm guessing the whole pen will be ruined by being in the heat for this length of time. On the other hand I don't want to ruin all my hard work by not taking it for two weeks. I was thinking of getting the tablet form for those two weeks I'm away.

Has anyone found a solution? An ice pack would melt on the journey there. Thanks!

I would think if you put it in a little insulated bag even without an ice pack it wouldn't reach the 30's outside temperature as it would be insulated from the heat and shaded. Even better if it's tucked inside a suitcase or something too.

Peridot1 · 16/05/2023 13:30

I took mine to Australia too but was able to make sure it was kept cold. You can buy chill packs to keep meds cold I think.

MiniCooperLover · 16/05/2023 13:51

I bought a pack you'd use to transport Insulin and it came with two small ice packs when I took it to the maldives earlier this year, it was fine.

LovelaceBiggWither · 17/05/2023 03:37

It's only unopened pens that need to be refrigerated. Once open they are stable. It's on the packet insert. Makes zero sense to me.

leilani83 · 17/05/2023 07:52

Those of you who took your pen with you on holiday, did you have it in your hand luggage and what did you say at the airport? I'm flying in August with hang luggage only and need to take the pen with me.

I took one recently in hand luggage, I was all ready with my letter from Quickmeds. However no one batted an eyelid! I put it with my liquids.

Although! My friend as travelling with a checked in bag and had my needle in there. I would be tempted to hide the needle somewhere in your bag (safely!).

Yes but they still need to be kept below 30 degrees.

Weighed in today - I'm now ten weeks in and have lost 25lb. I'm still on 0.5 and haven't yet needed to move up. I use a 1mg pen and count clicks for best value.

Here are my thoughts on the last ten weeks:

For the most part, I have no side effects anymore. Very occasional nausea. I need to make sure I take my psyllium husk daily but I've only very rarely needed proper laxatives. I do get tired at times but I'm sleeping well at night and it is manageable.

I aim for minimal carbs in my day but am not totally adverse to them. I've had pizza, burgers etc as part of my diet. I've socialised. I can drink but I don't particularly fell the need to.

I just cannot binge anymore at all. I'm not constantly consumed by where my next meal is coming from and what it will be. I'd like to get to a point where I don't track my food at all, but I need to currently to keep an eye on my protein intake.

I'm hoping to increase my exercise this week. I've been focusing on daily steps until now.

I've 2 stone still to lose to get to my first goal. I'd like to have the chunk of that off before the summer holidays and that feels really doable.

I am really happy with my progress and so pleased I tried this.

Hi, if you are using the 1 mg pen, how many clicks do you need to count to inject 0.50? Thanks

mumwheresmyribena · 17/05/2023 08:47

@LovelaceBiggWither They need to be refrigerated to preserve their "use before" date which can be a year or two down the line. As soon as they're opened they need to be used in a few weeks anyway so they can be kept at room temperature

@leilani83 - I took mine - including needles - in hand luggage. I put the whole box in a separate clear plastic bag in the tray at security. It was fine. My name was on the label on the box but I didn’t have a letter or anything. I think they are quite used to people taking meds and epi pens through.

Thansk, Teddypops and Peridot1, very helpful!

It's been a while since I posted, ...Father forgive me!

I had about 6 weeks with basically a very very very slow loss. And it got me down. So I'm coming up to 3 months and I've only just now lost my first stone!

But the scales are shifting again slowly. And I've asked to go onto 1mg. The full price Juniper is killing me but it's worth it for the supply.

But I took some measurements and have lost 0.5 inch from each arm, 1 inch from my stomach. 1 inch from bust. 2 inches from upper bust. 2 from my hips and 2 inches from EACH thigh! 🤣

I'm pretty bloody chuffed with that.

MuMuMuuuum · 17/05/2023 17:29

I'm a slow loser too @themuminator but just keep telling myself it's all heading in the right direction!

Same. 3 months in im down 6lbs, but only started losing once I was on 1mg. Shame we can't get a higher dose for now as I feel I would need that to get losses like I read of here.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 18/05/2023 00:56

@Hopinonadream 36

Thanks for this!

On a separate note I went on an outing today and tried on a cute old size 16 dress on a whim beforehand. Couldn't even get it on at Christmas.
Now it's almost too big. A friend took lots of photos and I don't even recognize myself in the pics. I look... pretty good. Tons of energy to walk around as well.
I'm in shock. I really wanted last summer to be my last obese summer, I was bloody miserable. But it just didn't seem viable.
I'm almost tearing up now. So very happy I'm doing this.

Sameiam · 18/05/2023 12:15

First week on 1mg and I’ve actually put on a bit of weight 😒 I think I’ve been fighting something off (my lymph nodes round my jaw were swollen) so hopefully it’s just something to do with water retention, my jeans feel tight as well.

other than that zero symptoms from the 1mg, no nausea or constipation/diarrhoea but also don’t feel any more appetite suppression or anything vs the 0.5. Maybe as it starts to build up with the higher dose half-life.

Beenalongwinter · 18/05/2023 12:46

@Hopinonadream
37 clicks

@Hopinonadream 36

Is that 36 plus the two primer clicks?

I did 0.75 this week and it’s worked well so think I’ll stay on it this week and see how I get on.

mumwheresmyribena · 18/05/2023 15:39

Inc the primer clicks... we'll that's what I do!

WhyDoesItAlways · 18/05/2023 17:20

Can't remember if I saw on this thread or another I'm following so will post on both just in case.

Someone asked about donating blood while on ozempic. Well, I went to donate today and had to speak to the head nurse who asked lots of questions about where I got it from as I didn't have a physical prescription to show her. I showed her the juniper website as there is a bit at the bottom of the 'about us' page which shows that they are a registered pharmacy. She then had to call their head office to double check that was ok. Their only concern was that I was getting it from a registered pharmacist. So if anyone is planning on giving blood I would have this info handy. Got the ok in the end and was able to donate.
