Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

Where is the current cheapest place to buy the 0.5 pen, does anyone know? (No coaching or voucher faff etc!)

mumwheresmyribena · 13/04/2023 09:47

That's fab news@LovelaceBiggWither Following through and getting to target is wonderful. Your post made me chuckle though. I read it and thought "bloody hell she's a few miles down the road from me, is it really that much colder weather there that she's digging out her Winter clothing again?" Then I realised that Aust wasn't the village of that name in South Gloucestershire 😅

HolibobsinApril · 13/04/2023 10:03

So, I've had a bit of a panic!! I'm going to contact quick meds today on WhatsApp but I thought I would post on here to see if anyone had had similar.

I've been on holiday for the past week. I've kept up with my Jabs (am on 0.5 every 4 days). I've eaten far more than I would normally on this diet and also drank more. I've not eaten as much as I would have done prior to Ozempic but more than usual. Quite a lot of alcohol consumed.

Half way though the holiday I started to get a lump in my throat feeling. I suffer with anxiety at times and I think this made it worse.

I know that thyroid cancer is a small risk on Ozempic and I need to inform them of any throat problems, which I will do.

However, my more rational thinking is that it is acid reflux due to the slowed gut transit and over eating. I'm now home and will revert back to smaller meals. I've bought some omeprazole and will take them for the next few days.

The lump in throat feeling wasn't constant and was worse at night so does definitely suggest acid reflux or similar.

Has anyone experienced the same?

Peridot1 · 13/04/2023 13:57

Where were you on holiday @HolibobsinApril? I once had a lump in throat feeling years ago when we lived in Thailand and it seemed to have been an allergy. To the humidity the doctor thought. I get hayfever etc. so am allergy prone. It went away eventually. But I would definitely get yours checked out.

HolibobsinApril · 13/04/2023 14:14

@Peridot1 I was in Portugal. I'm not normally sensitive to allergies. I've not felt it since I've got back.

I'm a little worried to raise it, because if it's nothing I don't want to stop taking Ozempic. It has worked incredibly well for me and I've lost 1.5 stone in 3 months. I've had no side effects.

Peridot1 · 13/04/2023 14:19

If you haven’t had it since you got back it’s probably as you say eating and drinking more.

By the way - have a look through the threads for info on taking Ozempic twice a week the way you are. I was doing that too but have stopped and am now on once a week again.

HolibobsinApril · 13/04/2023 14:30

I will go to the full dose of 1m once a week. I saw the comments about potentially over dosing. I didn't want to go up to 1mg before going away, but will get back on it now.

I'm going to wait 48 hours or so and see how I feel. I don't want to start raising alarm bells.

Peridot1 · 13/04/2023 15:13

Good plan on both counts @HolibobsinApril.

AndSoFinally · 13/04/2023 17:49

@HolibobsinApril I get exactly the same if I overdo it on the food front. I think, like you say, it's the delayed gastric transit causing reflux.

It does go away after a couple of days though, so if yours doesn't you should get it checked.

NCFOROZ · 13/04/2023 18:21

For anyone who is interested I have received this email from the pharmaceutical company who make Ozempic, NovoNordisk in response to a query regarding splitting the dose and extra doses in the pen:

Ozempic®‚(semaglutide) – Licensed indication
Ozempic is indicated for the treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise
• as monotherapy when metformin is considered inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications
• in addition to other medicinal products for the treatment of diabetes.*
*
Splitting the doses:
Semaglutide should be administered once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of the day, with or without meals. Semaglutide should be administered subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
Novo Nordisk has not studied alternative dosing regimens, including splitting the dose. Novo Nordisk has only evaluated semaglutide in clinical studies as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. *
*
Extra doses in the pen:
Extra doses are provided to prime the pen. If a patient needs to prime more than once, extra doses are available in the pen to allow them to do so as advised in the patient information leaflet.(1)*

I hope this information is of assistance, but if we can be of any further help, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Yours sincerely,

As you can see, the extra doses are to prime the pen and there is no clinical data for splitting doses.

Karmakamelion · 13/04/2023 22:28

I'm getting a strange slightly unpleasant taste in my mouth. It's almost a fizzy sensation if that makes any sense. I did eat some creamy paneer curry but not a lot and not sure if it's related.

Feel a bit low today. Is all of this normal?? I also have the horrible food chatter today. Definitely not a good day 😥

Beenalongwinter · 14/04/2023 07:43

First one .25
Second pen .5
I would like to change suppliers , juniper have offered me my next pen with a discount but they would like me to start on .5 again .
Can anyone suggest a supplier who will supply a 3rd 1mg pen please ?

mumwheresmyribena · 14/04/2023 08:27

I've only ever used Quickmeds and have no plans too change because they've been great. Decent prices, quick services, support by WhatsApp if needed and open to listening to what you want and how you want it supplied.

Try not to worry.
That does sound like acid reflux to me as my husband had the same.
Get it checked by a doc though of course.

Thanks for this.
I've been splitting my dose as I had seen it recommended and stupidly did not investigate recommendations myself. Not like me at all!
Looks like I'm going to have to go back to trying once a week.

Has anyone done the Zoe tests while on Ozempic? I'm told my Zoe tests will ship soon but I'm not sure if I can do them while I'm taking Ozempic. I've contacted Zoe but no reply yet. I thought I'd ask here as some people may be in the same boat.

They won't work whilst on Ozempic as you are testing for insulin/blood sugar response and Ozempic changes normal response.

I've been doing it for about two months! 😬

mumwheresmyribena · 14/04/2023 09:10

@Beenalongwinter Ahh, I ordered 2 pens last time so I wouldn't have to cope with the short supply issues. I'm about to do the same again as I'm due to start my last remaining pen later. Once I knew it suited me, I decided I needed to ensure my continuity as much as I could to give me that safety net.

Peridot1 · 14/04/2023 09:11

I’ve been doing it a lot longer @Cozytoesandtoast00. It was recommended in FB group I was in which was run by the supplier I was using. In fact one of their staff was splitting the dose too. I actually messaged her and asked about it. She was taking 0.5 every three days. So I don’t think it is necessarily harmful especially at 0.5 as it’s still quite a low dose after all but I think I’m happier on once a week and knowing I’m following the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Amazonmulu · 14/04/2023 09:13

@Cozytoesandtoast00 I did manage to speak to someone at Zoe and they advise that I can do the tests while on Ozempic. The carb / insulin response won't be as good a reading but everything else microbiom / fat / protein tests would be unaffected.

They did say that I can also freeze the muffins for up to 6 months.

I think I'm going to finish my current pen and see where I'm at.

I've had no adverse effects from Ozempic as yet - no more tired than usual, no nausea or stomach issues... so if that continues when I move to 0.5 next week I will see if I can take a gap after this born and the next (Zoe suggested two weeks between injection and tests).

The Zoe team were mega helpful and fast at responding.

Peridot1 · 14/04/2023 09:14

That’s really interesting @Amazonmulu

Thanks Peridot .
I've had a good think and I'm going to stick to my normal regime as I feel good and I won't be on it for much longer and I'm close to my goal ( 1- 2 months away)
I take it on Tuesdays and Fridays.

That's good to hear. I hope it goes well for you.
i'm going to start it once I finish Ozempic as I want to see how carbs (particularly sugar) effect me without any influence.
