Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

OP posts:
orangelous · 04/02/2023 11:59

just back from two weeks away and i have sadly gained weight.
So despite not eating much and also being quite unwell while there from a gastric point of view it shows you have to keep an eye on calories from elsewhere!! Singapore slings i'm looking at you!!
So hopefully back on track now .
Well done to everyone who's losing great to hear success stories!

It's probably just water weight. You'll be back in the swing of things in no time!

Peridot1 · 04/02/2023 15:47

The starting dose of 0.25 is an adjustment dose really and most people need 0.5 to really lose. After all Wegovy is prescribed in the US up to 2.4 for treatment of obesity.

Good to see you on here @Cappuccinopup. Your posts on that other thread yesterday were very informative. And patient!

@orangelous - those Singapore Slings will have been very sugary! So the drug would not have been as effective on the insulin side of things. I read a very good scientific explanation for why we should reduce carbs on Ozempic and I will try to find it. I’m a bit rubbish at explaining! But reduce your carbs and drink lots of water and you should get back on track.

orangelous · 04/02/2023 16:44

Thankyou Peridot .
yes my main downfall is wine and booze in general.
I'm ok at home but was away with a group and inevitably one drink leads to another although I was much better than i usually would be as I had to go to bed early every night!!
not sure if that is a side effect but no bad thing if so!!
I would be very interested to read about the insulin resistance as worrying about getting type two diabetes is my main motivation for losing weight.

Yes, I would like to know this too about the insulin.

HolibobsinApril · 04/02/2023 18:53

I would be interested in what people are eating? I find that when I reduce carbs, the fats go up.

I've just had a prawn stir fry.

I had a slice of rye sourdough with a poached egg and some bacon for brunch.

I'm drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot too.

I'm only at the end of day 2. Feeling completely fine. I don't feel that food seems as important as it was. I'm finding it easy to eat a lot less and not feel hungry.

Absolutely sick of some of the moral judgments on other threads. Just get a personal trainer and stop taking diabetic people's drugs you fat, lazy losers.

Even if you name change but still post the same content with the same grammatical errors, we might just recognise you.

We are not allowed to lose weight without suffering clearly. Anyway fuck them. Rant over 😊

Fuck them for real. We obese people are on the route to diabetes and other diseases and we are paying for the stuff ourselves (which really should be provided on the NHS) and if we could fucking do it then we would!
I've had a personal trainer for 3 years and I'm really strong but also still fat!! Getting a PT will not help with losing weight.

SwimmingFree · 04/02/2023 20:41

Just taken my 3rd doze (.25), I'd be really interested in understanding the insulin information. This has removed my sugar cravings, it's amazing.

I've been on every diet since age 14 and have always 'fallen off the wagon' terribly from sugar cravings.

I haven't reduced my carbs but don't seem to be getting any cravings. Before ozempic I could eat so much bread in a craving fuelled frenzy! My bmi is 43.

Today I've had:

B - pecan and cranberry bread and cream cheese
L - tuna, mixed beans and sweetcorn salad with ryvita
D - baked sweet potato, salmon, guacamole and homemade salsa

This would have been a typical eating day for me before but I would have had loads of biscuits, chocolate and bread in between. I just craved sugar all the time.

This is definitely having an effect on my blood sugar or something!

Omg yes!!! So sick of the judgy attitudes!!!

Hi everyone, was on ozempic for a couple of months last year, lost weight but then had to stop because of the shortage. I'm thinking about doing it again. Just wondering what needles I can get to make the most of the pen. I got up to 0.5 last time but had horrendous sulphur burps 🤢

Peridot1 · 04/02/2023 21:47

Completely agree @Athena51. And yes the name changes don’t fool, anyone!

I will try to research a bit more about the insulin angle. I ended up with a migraine today so brain not up to it today. The bit I saw that made sense to me was a post on a FB group I’m in about Ozempic. Someone commented on a post and said that one of the ways Ozempic helps weight loss is dealing with over production of insulin and if we are constantly feeding our bodies carbs it has to deal constantly with the new onslaught. It’s very simplistic and not particularly scientific and possibly not even correct but it made sense to my little brain!

@Cappuccinopup may know a bit more?

@HolibobsinApril - don’t worry about the fats. Fats are not the enemy. Carbs are. Fats tend to be self limiting. And satiating.

@lardass88 these are the needles I got and they work well.

Athena51 · 04/02/2023 22:27

@Peridot1 I suggest we just leave them to their PTs and their superiority complexes and they can dislocate their shoulders patting themselves on the back while we crack on with losing weight 🙂

I didn't even read the other thread as I don't need that kind of negativity.
Onwards and upwards for us!

lardass88 · 05/02/2023 08:29

@Peridot1 thank you for replying - the link isn't working for me. Any chance you could send it again please?

I did read it but they just come across as people who like to judge and shame others which is not a nice trait in a person!

I agree with you and @Athena51 and @Peridot1 - at least we are trying to do something about our weight and negativity never helped anyone. Onwards and upwards (or downwards on the scales) is the way to go.

Peridot1 · 05/02/2023 08:51

Sorry @lardass88 - hope this works.

missfliss · 05/02/2023 08:52

I'm upset at how my other thread has been jumped on to be honest.
I asked those questions before joining here and was weighing Ozempic up as a viable tool (or not).

It's been resurrected as a goady and blaming thread.

I'm not replying on it -I'm particularly low this week ( illness and life stuff) and not wanting to engage with a lecture from people who, let's face it, have already made up their minds.

Hugs to those on here who are just, well, doing their best as the flawed human beings that we all are.

We'll all support each other xxx

Peridot1 · 05/02/2023 09:07

Yes @missfliss - just ignore them. Hide the thread maybe. I shouldn’t be responding to them but was so mad last night. Hugs to you.

I was laughing wryly to myself at being constantly told to get a PT. I had a friend who was a PT and I later discovered was also quite toxic and she would make me feel so bad about myself. Just odd comments here and there. But it really messed with my head eventually. And she also did not get how much harder it is to lose if you have been overweight for a long time and have yo-yo dieted.

Try not to let it bother you @missfliss - they are not nice people and aren't really interested in "helping" anyone with their advice. It's just a way for them to feel superior which is silly because we are good at certain things in life and not so good at others. It's not weight that makes us good people or not but how we empathise & treat others because as you say, we are all flawed.

It is best not to engage with any thread that bothers you. I have become ruthless now at unwatching any thread that is upsetting me.

Inkpotlover · 05/02/2023 09:17

I’ve just been reading about ozmepic and was wondering what happens when you stop taking it? If your brain/body is tricked into not wanting to eat, isn’t there a danger once you’re off it you’re going to want to eat everything on sight and pile the weight back on and more? I can’t bear the idea of that after decades of yo-yo dieting. 🥲

Argh, misspelled it! I mean Ozempic, obviously.

That is a very real downside to it @Inkpotlover

Just with any other kind of diet, there is no guarantee you won't put the weight back on - in fact, studies show that people normally do.

Personally, I'm using it to kickstart my weight loss, reverse the direction I was going in (toward diabetes) and to try to get out of the bad eating habits I was in. I will use it for a year or two to lose a good amount of weight (hopefully and so far it's working). But ultimately, I don't want to take it forever so I know I will need to take responsibility for maintaining the loss when I stop taking it and my appetite returns to normal.
