30kg to lose. Who else is in this ballpark?

That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

@Blacktreacle i try and live by the motto “you can’t out-run your mouth”. The only time I’ve been able to set this aside is when I’m skiing and I eat high-calorie shite for a fortnight but still lose weight.

@JaneLockland The Saxenda makes a huge difference- it seems to “turn off” the urge to eat. You can be sat in front of a Wispa and just think “meh” rather than “is that all?”.

I set myself an ambitious target of losing a stone by the end of the month and I’m on target. That’s usually the point where i say “g’wan, have a treat. G’wan g’wan g’wan” and 6 months later I’m heavier than when I started.

So I’m going to donate my clothes to the charity shop as soon as they’re too big. I’m far too fat to roam naked.

Blacktreacle · 27/01/2023 07:49

@DressingForRevenge yes, this is my new mantra. I've thought exercise would fix me for so long. It fixes my brain and the tone of my body but not my weight or dress size!

Also yes to the losing a stone and then treating yourself Blush

I was listening to a podcast the other day from a woman who lost 100lbs and she said (paraphrasing) "the people that keep the clothes put the weight back on. Get rid of the too big clothes or you're telling yourself you don't believe in yourself" and she is right! The fact you have that planned means you'll not let yourself put that weight back on. I'm going to do the same. Can't wait to get rid of the size 18s. Will be a little while - I was at the "a bit tight" end of size 18! But they're going out of the door as soon as they're too big!

DressingForRevenge · 27/01/2023 07:58

I only wish that were true. I wince at the £000s of clothes I’ve given away over the years thinking I’d never be that big again.

But I’m hoping there’s been a mental shift now as unfortunately we are approaching the age where people do drop down dead. 😔I don’t want my family to have to order the XXXL-arse coffin! 😂

Exercise is wonderful for MH, but I think only a freak of human nature doesn’t forlornly eye up the vending machine after a swim!

MzMarple · 27/01/2023 08:59

Morning @Blacktreacle thanks for the welcome. Here's to us swishing about in summer dresses this summer.

I am going to be winging it today food wise as I've not planned anything. Busy day at work so hopefully that will keep me distracted from stuffing my face mindlessly.

SeventyPounds · 27/01/2023 09:19

Morning all. No loss on the scales this morning but such is life when you weigh every day.

It's leftover pie for tea today in our house. Luckily, everything that's leftover is a vegetable and we have no pastry so it'll be sweet potato mash on top. I don't think I can go too far wrong with that Grin

I never know what to do for the best with clothes. I've also wasted £000s over the years buying new sizes (bigger and smaller, depending on which way I was travelling at the time) and then giving them away when they don't fit.

In some cases, I've gone to have a sort out of my non-fitting clothes and found exactly the same items as are in my wardrobe, just at a different size! In some ways, I wish I'd kept everything in storage and by now I'd have a clothes shop worth of items, all in different sizes, that I could go and choose from whenever I changed a size! Smile

RedDoughnut · 27/01/2023 11:49

I was 18 9 when I started.
I'd like to see 17 stones on the scale this weekend.

RedDoughnut · 27/01/2023 11:53

17 stones something or other.
Not just 17 as miracles don't happen

TennisWithDeborah · 27/01/2023 19:01

Fingers crossed @RedDoughnut for 17-something.

I am starting a new jigsaw now to avoid snacking and breaking the 16:8. What a rock n roll Friday night!

katscamel · 28/01/2023 05:31

Can I join...please.
I definitely have 30kg to lose and need to give myself up the bum to do so.
I'm doing a new job in a new country and am really hoping it'll help.....though I have just discovered the supermarket sells my favourite Middle Eastern/Turkish dessert.

I'm not heading back to the UK until the summer so I'm using that as my first target date.... what would be a realistic loss....any ideas?
I also need to get back to the gym.... I generally try and get 10k steps in but think I need more cardio and strength training in. Have started listening to Paul McKenna again as well as have found it helpful in the past so fingers crossed.

DressingForRevenge · 28/01/2023 09:11

@katscamel i dunno what targets should be - but I’m aiming for as much as possible as fast as possible. Because frankly, I’m 50 and need to stop making excuses.

I’ve got a lovely summer holiday coming up and yes, I’d like to sit by the pool without hearing sneery comments, but I’d also like to hike in the mountains without being a sweaty literal melt!

Yesterday I ate too much, it was all within my allowed food groups - I think I was just shattered and fed up and you know how it goes - the fridge calls. However, better than diving into the junk and the booze.

@TennisWithDeborah i rather fear it was a rock n roll lifestyle that got me here. Well, a rough approximation of - had it been PROPER r&r I’d have had cocaine, not croissants.

My clothes are definitely definitely fitting better and I think I might have the beginnings of a jaw-line. 😉

RedDoughnut · 28/01/2023 10:33

If I lose 3 stones then I will probably double my wardrobe as I can't fit into at least 50% of my clothes.

If I lose the 6 stones I need to then I will need all new clothes!

I'm 54. I wonder if I will look wizened if I lose loads?

Blacktreacle · 28/01/2023 10:44

Morning everybody!

I've been thinking about goals this week. I have decided that I have an interim goal of 15kg for the spring (I'm aiming for 1kg a week on average so that gets me to May) We're going away at May half term so that feels like a good target.

That's a weight I lived comfortably at for a long time so feels like a great aim for my holiday. But it's still overweight, almost obese on BMI, so I then want to lose more for our summer holiday, I guess as you get smaller losing every kg is a bit harder so not sure on goal for that yet but goal for the year is 25-30kg.

Anyway I'm sat outside Tesco, have my meal plan and about to go in. Then when I get home DH should be just arriving from his week long work trip. Will be good to catch up on the sofa with a cuppa - but no biscuits!

Hope you all have a good Saturday

RedDoughnut · 28/01/2023 18:40

@Blacktreacle what is on your meal plan?
I find dieting and cooking for a skinny DH and hungry teens very tricky.

I have no plan at the moment. I'm just trying to be better and eat less.

Blacktreacle · 28/01/2023 19:11

Hi @RedDoughnut

Here is the list for the week. I'm basically not having the carbs on all of these and watching my portion sizes. Weds is the only day where I'm doing something a bit different for me. I'll have eggs for breakfast every day and soup for lunch (made two today)

Mon: Traybake chicken (lemon, peppers, herbs etc not quite decided) with green veg and couscous
Tue: Salmon with soy, ginger etc. Rice and different green veg.
Wed: Sausages, potato wedges and some sort of veg. I'll just steam a bit of cod for me.
Thu: Meatballs, spaghetti, veg
Fri: Chicken curry, rice, roast cauli.

I have one of the Fast 800 cookbooks on my kindle and it's good for ideas of meals that aren't starving yourself but are low calorie. Easy with my lot to give them a bunch of carbs, cheese on top etc to up their calories.

katscamel · 29/01/2023 03:36

So last night was rubbish.... went out for dinner with a colleague and had a rather nice chicken and prawn stir fry..... not necessarily that unhealthy but the amount of oil used and portion size was more than usual. Got home around 9 and between then and 11 got through a big bag of caramel popcorn and a bag of pea snacks.
I certainly wasn't hungry....its a psychological thing.....planning lessons, marking....any work away from usual office environment = snack food binge.
I need to find away to stop this association.

Luckily the students are back from today so I'll be spending more time at work, fingers crossed it'll work.

trytopullyoursocksup · 29/01/2023 10:27

Hi everyone. Weigh in this morning: I put on .6 kg. I'm not happy about it but not surprised because went out to a work do on Friday, ate bread, and drank FAR TOO MUCH wine. I've had a psychological / emotional hangover ever since. I spent Saturday doing garden work and trying to manage lots of people in and out of the house. didn't eat too much or drink again but i feel very strange and shaken. probably still the chemical effects of too much booze.

Well done to everyone else who had a better few days. I need some better balance and some better self preservation skills around certain things.

RedDoughnut · 29/01/2023 12:08

I bought Muller light Chocolate Fix yesterday. 69 calories per pot.
I thought this will be brilliant for sweet craving after dinner
It's vile! It's like sweet glue.
Lots of low cal stuff has gelatine which I don't eat.
So this seemed good. Uggh
Back to the drawing board.

SeventyPounds · 29/01/2023 19:02

No post yesterday - it's my birthday weekend and I've been celebrating with family.

I've tracked and measured everything I ate so I know I've not over eaten. But I've not under eaten/dieted either. But that's ok. It''s my birthday and I've not gone mad.

RedDoughnut · 29/01/2023 20:35

Happy Birthday @SeventyPounds !

mrsmaggymoo · 29/01/2023 20:59

Can I join in please?

In the zone as getting married in October, years of snacking and wine have taken their toll! Ideally I have 30 kg to lose. Lost nearly 5kg so far but know the weight loss will slow down. Next weight in is on Thursday....

SeventyPounds · 29/01/2023 21:30

Thank you @RedDoughnut 😁!!!

MzMarple · 29/01/2023 21:34

Hi, everyone

Not really stuck to it this weekend. Had wine, crisps, take away. Why do I do this to myself. New scales should arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed I've not done to much damage. Just put a tesco shop in for this week. Stocked up on veg, fruit etc. Feeling meh with myself. I am just a big blob.

@mrsmaggymoo congratulations on your wedding and 5kg lost already.

freshstart49 · 29/01/2023 21:39

I'm great at starting just rubbish at keeping at it x please let me play oh I'll be low carbing

EmmaEmerald · 29/01/2023 21:40

Sticking my head round the door, but not sure about coming in?

This the amount I have to lose. I have tried and failed utterly many times - by which

I mean, didn't lose any weight. I then decided I wasn't going to bother but I am finding I now feel physically uncomfortable when exercising, (I enjoy exercise but it hasn't helped with my weight) as well as being embarrassed about my appearance.

I find eating less of anything insanely hard and I feel like I've tried and failed at everything.

At the same time, I am not particularly interested in food and often wonder how I ended up at this weight.

There's a thread going which talks a lot about old clothes sizes. So not only was I a size 8 years ago, that would now be a 6? I don't know how I became this person!

But I'm not sure how I feel about trying again. It seems like such a huge amount to lose.

EmmaEmerald · 29/01/2023 22:25

PS the other thing I find hard
people tell me that if you are very overweight, the first few pounds are the easiest to lose? Never happens to me.

I am moving home soon so with all the busy-ness and running about, lt should be an ideal time to make a change.
