30kg to lose. Who else is in this ballpark?

That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

@trytopullyoursocksup I'm so sorry you had bad news at work. Well done for not eating over it. I think it's these sort of victories that make a big difference.
I'm not planning to go back to running for a while, am waiting for a prolapse operation first and would like to lose some weight before I do anything as tbh I don't have the confidence to be seen either running or in a swimsuit. Also got plantar fasciitis last time I tried running. I'm hoping walking carrying my 5kg weight 🤣 will make a difference to my fitness for now. I have an exercise bike but utterly hate it whereas I loved running (note, for running, read very slow jogging)
Well done on the swim @RedDoughnut !

DressingForRevenge · 21/01/2023 18:46

@justasoul dietdoctor has lots of low-carb veggie recipes.

@RedDoughnut There’s still a need to run a golf-course green keeper over my lower legs though. 😳 WFH and a cooler climate mean I have a low-contact relationship with my razor.

Today has gone well food-wise despite hearing “mum, mum, mum” every 22 seconds since 7am.

@trytopullyoursocksup boo to work. Work is yet another thing overrated at our age.

jessieminto · 21/01/2023 19:02

I have 34kg to lose. I started in October and I'm down 13kgs. Im disabled and cannot lose weight with exercise, it has to be done with diet.

I'm fasting 20:4. I'm finding this works best for me and I'm happy with my progress. I have 2 small meals 4 hrs apart and then fast the rest of the time.

Good luck everyone Flowers

@quinceh - thank you! Well done! (what did you do?)
Everyone else - great to hear from you.
I too have lost and put on weight a lot in the past. The line has been bumpy but the overall trajectory is up and it is has put me at my highest weight ever.

My plan is based loosely on other more "off the peg" diets I have followed more strictly in the past. It's basically:

gentle low carbing (some fruit allowed, some whole grains allowed);
very small amounts of alcohol (only for a "good reason" occasionally);
8:16 intermittent fasting when possible (sometimes I will need to eat earlier for scheduling reasons, just do it and move on);
Keep moving, replace the walking I lost through my commute changing;
Keep the bigger picture in mind. Don't get hung up on day to day indiscretions. Just keeping doing most of the best things on most of the days and think long term.

I firmly believe that different things work for different people and for those of you around my age I am sure you know what works for you. the thing is doing it, and sticking to it, and staying positive

I was very lean until my mid thirties, when I gradually started packing on weight... but over lockdown the break from routine led me to change my eating habits and only eat what / when I wanted. It dawned on me one day that I wasn't eating nearly as much as I used to, and sure enough, I'd lost about 6 kg. 2 years on, and I am back to what I weighed in my 20s. I am 52, and am astonished at how capable and strong the body that has emerged is.
I am not following a diet - have no idea about calories - just trying to listen to my body... but that ends up looking very similar to what you described above. It is interesting that this is very similar to how I ate in my 20s, before kids and the need to provide regular meals for other people was a feature of my life.

trytopullyoursocksup · 21/01/2023 21:20

@Sh4rkAttack that is interesting. I do think the drudgery of everyone else needing to eat makes one eat out of boredom or even ... resentment?

I am in bed with my laptop, and someone else with a laptop doing Sparx Maths. I would often have a couple of glasses of wine on a Friday, but I won't today: I had a bath and went to bed to feel warmed up instead.

I hope you all are having a good weekend and having treats that make you feel good and not bad.

Sunday morning weigh in: 2.7 kg down off last week
I am elated!
I know I can't keep up that fast a loss and it's because I am so overweight and had so many terribly bad habits to lose. But I am overjoyed

How is everyone?

OP posts:
RedDoughnut · 22/01/2023 10:07

18 stones 5lbs

So 4lbs down.

My first goal is to be 16 something

Blacktreacle · 22/01/2023 10:19

Well done both of you! I'm weighing in tomorrow as I started last Monday. Though I do weigh daily because I find the regularity helps, I'll record it tomorrow and also measure my waist and hips weekly too.

S70V12 · 22/01/2023 10:28

69kg today. Lost 2.2kg from Monday.

caffelattetogo · 22/01/2023 11:14

I am. 30kg would put me in my healthy bmi bracket for the first time in 10 years. I was just plain old overweight before having kids, but very rough pregnancies piled the weight on and I'm now massively struggling. Babies all done now though, so this is the year for me to do it. I just need to work out where to start...

trytopullyoursocksup · 22/01/2023 12:22

@caffelattetogo I know what you mean, I was essentially disabled for the second half of each of my pregnancies and then dealing with a newborn (or a newborn and toddler) just took over all my will and energy and there was nothing left to build back my body and health. This is your time! you can do it!

If I lost at this rate consistently (I know I won't) I'd lose 30kg in just over 11 weeks. I've allowed myself the year which I think is more realistic! I do want to be in ok shape for summer though. It would be so nice not to worry about what to wear when it gets hot and just enjoy life.

My daughter said I looked slimmer this morning, which was nice as I haven't been talking about this so I know she isn't just saying it to please me.

OP posts:
S70V12 · 22/01/2023 15:16

I would aim for 1% of body weight to start off with per week. Then as you get leaner aim for 0.5% of body weight per week. It don’t sound much but over time it adds up. Reason to slow it down as get leaner is to reduce risk of muscle loss from calorie deficit. Would recommend to incorporate weight training in gym or body weight exercises at home to provide stimulus for your body to keep and possibly build muscle as you get leaner. Need to keep protein high which would also help to keep you satiated.

TennisWithDeborah · 22/01/2023 15:25

Afternoon!

I need to lose 4 stones (25.5 kilos). I could actually do with shifting 5 stones (31.75 kilos) but the former would get me to a healthier BMI and back into certain clothes that no longer fit.

Like others on here, I am setting small targets. So, moving down through the stones and kilos (eg first target is 15.5 stones and 99 kilos, double figure kilos instead of treble being a massive incentive). Also moving down the BMI scale which I know isn’t an exact science but hey, a goal is a goal!

I weighed on Monday 9th Jan following my return from holiday. I hadn’t weighed in many years so it was a shock. Depressing and shameful. It made me very determined.

I’ve stuck to 16:8 and with the exception of a family birthday event when I ate as sensibly as possible and drunk a little red wine. Today is day 14 and I’m feeling better. More definition in the waist and jawline, I think. I’ve been exercising too. Plan to weigh every four weeks because small losses are demotivating for me (I appreciate that the opposite is the case for others on here, it’s horses for courses and I love the way that this isn’t a didactic sort of thread, posters instead respect each others’ different approaches).

My main problem is evening munching so I’ve started doing jigsaws after dinner. Hadn’t done a jigsaw since childhood and I’m middle-aged now! It’s really really working! I’ve stuck to not eating after 7pm because I’ve kept busy with this (I’m a methodical, detailed sort of person so jigsaws suit me). I think that everyone finds their own tricks and life hacks to try to ensure weight loss success, don’t they.

Its inspiring to read of posters’ weight losses on this thread. Thank you. It’s helped me stay on track.

DressingForRevenge · 23/01/2023 07:56

I’m down 5lbs since last weekend. Am still being “tried” by children but so far haven’t fallen head-first into a coma-inducing tub of ice-cream.

definitely feeling less bloated around my waist and jawline.

MrsDMrsI · 23/01/2023 08:34

Whoooop! Morning everyone - there’s some brilliant losses there - well done! I’m down 2lbs which I’m pleased with, especially as I’m also feeling much less bloated too.

I also even managed to have an evening out for my cousin’s birthday, I went for fish rather than my usual burger/steak n chips and felt better for it the following day too.

Nothing in the diary this week that should cause me too much trouble, just need to keep positive in the cold!

What are you all up to?

trytopullyoursocksup · 23/01/2023 09:00

welcome @TennisWithDeborah !
Hello @DressingForRevenge and @MrsDMrsI !

Well done everyone, especially those with small children pressure - how old are yours, Dressing? Mine are at secondary school and they can be worrying in lots of ways but it isn't the same as Constant Onslaught when they are small.

I have been out in the frost this morning for c25k w4. I'm feeling good about that, but not so good about the day ahead - I will have lots of fall out at work from the Friday bombshell. Nothing to be done but stay strong and work through it.

There is a weight limit on renting kayaks, which I was really embarrassed I was over last summer. (I privately knew this.) I got away with it because my children are too young for the hire place to let them have their own, so once we had a 3 person one the weight limit was different. But I was so ashamed that I would not have been allowed to rent one of the standard ones for single adults on my own. I am so hoping that things like this will not be a problem this summer.

Hi everybody - excellent weight losses! Well done :)

I'm down 1.5lbs on last week. 😊

I track my weight daily at the moment so I can see the effect of things, different patterns etc and I was down by 3lbs on Saturday morning. Then Saturday night at friends I had fizz and more carbs than I would at home, and yesterday I had more carbs than I had during the week (DH went away with work for a week yesterday and made us a lovely lasagne for dinner to save me the effort which was v kind of him, but of course it's quite heavy on the carbs and fat) and I've acquired a bit of the weight again.

I knew going into this that my downfall is always weekends, I don't drink in the week but do share a bottle with DH over the weekend and I'm not as good at being disciplined about lower carb options etc when we are all around and all eating family meals together.

The good news is that I let it go less than normal this weekend, kept thinking about it, and so at least my weight is still down. So this coming week I'll work on the weekend plan and try to stick to something a bit stricter next weekend.

In other news though. I am also measuring my body weekly and my waist and hips are both down 3cm in a week! So something is happening :)

Hope your Mondays are going well.

S70V12 · 23/01/2023 11:31

Had granola, raspberries, blueberries, OJ, toffee latte protein pudding, creme egg
mid morning choc protein pudding X2
later mince beef and sweet potato or waffles
had a few green teas and coffees to keep me going.

tattychicken · 23/01/2023 12:02

I'd like to join. Have about 4 stone to lose. 2 of those I have gained since lockdown amd WFH. I used to run to keep my weight in check but plantar fasciitis then a knee injury mean I haven't run for about 2 years and I have ballooned. Everything hurts, knees/feet/back. I used to dart about the place and now I plod. I am 51 and I need to sort this now before I get any older.
I totally agree about cooking for the family. I find it so hard to cook a lovely Shepherds Pie for others then sit and eat a salad. And like others, I don't want to draw too much attention to trying to lose weight, I have 2 daughters and am very conscious of how I handle this in front of them. I have just said that I am trying to eat more healthily for now.
Haven't weighed myself yet as I know I will find the number very depressing. Have been vaguely low carbing for about a week, and feel and look less bloated so that's a start!
Well done to all who have lost this week. 💪💪 I will join you with logging weight soon but need to lose a bit before I can brave the scales.

DressingForRevenge · 23/01/2023 17:52

@tattychicken I’d shamelessly scrape out the meat from under the tatties. 😂

Today has been hectic and there will be more tantrums to come so I’m going to have egg Mayo for dinner (cba) and open a book.

Allytheapple · 23/01/2023 17:56

This could not come at a better time for me I am looking to lose as close to 25+ kg as I can manage. I’m looking to get to 65kg which is exactly the normal range of bmi for my height.

Blacktreacle · 23/01/2023 21:22

Hi Ally! Hi Tattie! Nice to have you here.

A fast day for me and did Pilates and kettlebells today. If I get Mondays going well it always feel like the week can go well. Work didn't go great, I was a bit slow to get going even with a deadline looming. Working for myself is good some days and a slog on other.

Tired now though. Got a few bits to do but will be in bed by 10 tonight.

Hope Monday has been manageable for everybody, particularly @trytopullyoursocksup with everything you have going on at work.

trytopullyoursocksup · 24/01/2023 09:27

Hello everyone!
Bit of a blip: drank too much last night, a few glasses of wine. Feeling not great for it this morning and I have breakfasted, which violates my usual 8:16. Still I'll stick to a three meal plan, go for a swim later, and hope that there are enough days between now and weigh in on Sunday that it will all be ok

Hope everyone on here is ok

@tattychicken I am such a plodder too!! A couple of years ago I was running 5K 3 times a week, had lost a couple of stone, felt marvellous about myself. Now I'm too scared to even get on the scales Blush although I know I must, all my joints are suffering and I'm generally knackered all the time. It doesn't help that DTS1 is a terrible eater and general beige food devotee, I rarely get chance to cook anything even vaguely interesting!

RedDoughnut · 25/01/2023 06:35

Really bad day food wise yesterday.

I was tired and fed up which leads to mindless overeating.

Back to better behaviour today.
