Next year I am going abroad in April and again in August and this time I don't want to be hiding from the camera. I want to make happy memories with my family and not be feeling horribly self conscious about myself so I have started this journey now in hopes I can reach my goal by then.

I started two weeks ago at 16 st 2lbs and today I am 15 st 5lbs.

I am hoping to reach around 12 stone by April and 10 stone (my goal weight) by August. I amdoing one meal a day and walking 5 nights a week, is this do-able in such a time frame?

Just to add, I did one meal a day years ago and lost just over 4 stone in 7 months and kept it off for almost 4 years.
I find it much easier to go without eating all day and focus on the fact I'll eat in the evening. Every diet where I've eaten 3 smaller meals and attempted portion control has failed and I find I'm reaching for the biscuit tin shortly after breakfast.

I'd say 10st by august is definitely doeable
12st by April probably is too- if you're looking at the beginning of the month 2lb a week between now and then will take you to 12st 5lb. But doesn't leave any room for normal weight loss fluctuations

Have you planned in enough nutrition with one meal a day? I'd struggle with it but it does work for some people. Worked out your TDEE?

Come join us on the November LOSE IT thread. I've lost over 20kg there, it's very supportive

I’ve lost about 4 stone since June so what’s that, about 5 months? So am sure it’s doable. Not eating all day doesn’t sound very healthy though. I’d be more inclined towards the 3 small meals (none of them very early or late) and avoiding the biscuit tin.
Whatever you are though, don’t hide from the camera. You’re not your weight.

HumphreyCobblers · 03/11/2022 06:36

One meal a day is healthy, gives your body a chance to fast daily which has lots of benefits to general health.

Wim Hoff eats one meal a day. As long as you have a good varied diet within that eating window I think it is a good plan.

Dashel · 03/11/2022 07:02

I share your motivation for weight loss. I love to travel and every year loose a little weight but still don’t feel great in my swim wear and the photos always show my chubby cheeks and weight.

We have a dream holiday booked on the 30th of April 2023 and booked it in July 2022 so there is lots of time to diet. This has given me so much motivation and because I want to look good in my swim wear, I have am doing weights as well. I even had to get heavier ones.

I am useless at fasting so not commenting on that, but I would think about potentially adding different exercises as time goes on. Either doing things as a family or own your own.

Good luck and the other motivational tips I can suggest are to follow social media blogs of the locations or hotels you are going to. I love seeing the posts pop up on Facebook and it spurs me on.

I also visualise getting on the plane and it being like every other time and me thinking, I should have worked harder and being my usual weight with my usual clothes designed to hide me and then me getting on the plane and thinking wow I did good, this is going to be an incredible holiday and I’m going to get photos framed and feel great with a load of bikinis and dresses in my luggage.

Posting an update to hold myself accountable.
My weight loss stalled for a little while (due to AF).
Weighed in this morning at 15 stone 2.6 which means I have lost my first stone.

Hoping to lose another 12 lbs by Christmas Day and will hopefully be another stone down by New Year's Day which would make me 14 stone 2.
Not sure how realistic this is as I will be having a day off on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (hoping I don't go too overboard).

OP posts:
Dashel · 19/11/2022 09:20

Congratulations on loosing your first stone that is an impressive start!

I think it’s ok to take a few days off over Christmas but it’s when you join in with every mince pie, chocolate, pick every calorific option and alcoholic treat from the first of November to the 1st of January that it gets really bad and January is depressing enough without gaining the Christmas weight.

adistraction · 22/11/2022 13:18

I'm hoping to only be off plan for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so hopefully it won't impact me too much. I don't mind if I gain back a pound or two.

Another update !

I weighed in this morning at 14st 13.6 so that's a total 16.8lb loss in 30 days. Feeling very motivated watching the numbers going down each week.

Also highly recommend the app Happy Scale, it breaks down your weight loss in to small little goals and you can really see how you're progressing, it's brilliant.

Quick update to hold myself accountable.

Had a bit of a slip up over the Christmas/new year period (mostly maintained)

Holiday for April is now rebooked for October so I have until my August holiday to get this weight down.

Weighed in this morning at 14 st 10.2

That's a total loss of 20.2 lbs so far.

OP posts:
Dashel · 11/01/2023 20:27

That is really impressive. You must be really motivated. Did you rebook the holiday to give yourself extra time to diet?

Have you started thinking about a new holiday wardrobe as it sounds like you are going to need lots of new clothes by October!

candyfloss18 · 11/01/2023 20:38

Can I join in please got my family holiday July this year and want to loose 5 stone refuse to go on holiday again looking and feeling like crap , you are doing amazing well done

Watching the numbers on the scale go down is certainly keeping me motivated. It's also much easier to stick to now the sugar cravings have gone!

April flights were rebooked as we are going away with relatives to their holiday home but something has come up and they can no longer go until later in the year (slightly relieved as I now have longer to lose this weight)

I was very lucky to receive money for Christmas so I have put it away and plan to use it on some new holiday clothes.

Absolutely Smile
Our family holiday is in August and I have roughly the same amount of weight to lose as you (4st 10lbs) .
I weigh in once a week on a Monday morning and will be posting on here more regularly (I find it helps). You're more than welcome to do the same. We can keep one another motivated.

Checking in with another quick update, hope no one minds me doing this but I find it quite helpful to log it this way as it holds me accountable.

Weighed in this morning at 14 st 6.4. I am quite pleased with that as I'm approaching a 2 stone weight loss.

Lightsbonaza · 23/01/2023 19:01

Well done OP! Always great to hear success stories. Keep going…!

adistraction · 26/02/2023 12:53

A little update to hold myself accountable.

Weigh loss seems tougher this time round which is a little frustrating, I'm still losing, just not as quickly as I had hoped.

Weighed in this morning at 13st 13.8lbs, that's a total loss of 30.6lbs or 2 stone 2.6lbs.

Not sure if I will reach my 10 stone weight goal by August but either way I'll be in a much better position than when I started at 16st 2.6lbs.

Well done you ! I always find it easier to diet once the cold dark days of winter are behind us . You can do it !

Emanresu9 · 26/02/2023 13:56

OP you are truly amazing! keep it up and please do keep updating it's great to see the progress.

ThisIsUs10 · 27/02/2023 21:33

Looking forward to your updates.

Can I ask when you did one meal a day and lost 4 stone, once you were tat your goal did you go back to eating more?

stayathomegardener · 27/02/2023 21:37

You must feel better for the loss?

I did, I gradually upped my calories to maintenance and started eating lunch as well. I've never been a breakfast person.

I certainly do! I feel much better in myself and I've noticed my knees hurt a lot less than they did.

adistraction · 28/02/2023 19:02

Just to add, my sugar cravings are none existent now which is brilliant.
This is very embarrassing but I would eat a chocolate bar not long after getting up in the morning which would be followed by biscuits and crisps and usually a desert and more biscuits after dinner too Blush.
It was a big struggle the first couple of weeks but I'm not even tempted by chocolate or biscuits any longer. It does get easier!

A little update

Weighed in this morning at 13st 5.8lbs. Very pleased with this and can't quite believe I am approaching a 3st loss Shock
Still have a way to go as my goal weight is 10st (I am 5ft 4) but I'm feeling really motivated.

It's still not likely I will reach my goal by the start of August for my holiday but I'm hopeful I can get rid of another stone or even two by then. Either way, I'll be in a much better mindset than I was when I was over 16 stone.

MrHankyPoo · 21/03/2023 13:44

Well done on your weight loss. I have lost 3st since last October. I have another two to lose, hopefully before June. If you haven't already, download the "Happy Scale" app. It's just a simple app that can predict the date you can reach your goal weight , based on your weight inputs. I have paid for the premium that's 1.99 a month and that logs my trends and it pushes me on especially when I see my trends going down, and the goal date within reaching distance.
Good luck, and again well done Smile
