I started ozempic last night

Going to log my experience here as a journal and also to help others if interested.

having gone hungry to lose 5lbs earlier this year and then stalled because I’m always hungry, I put 4lbs back on. Being v pear shaped I never have a belly, but now it sticks out and digs in and clothes are uncomfortable. Doing more exercise makes no difference. It is clear that will power simply doesn’t work for me.

I took my first dose (0.25mg) last night. Woke up around 2.30 with pain at the injection site which passed. Was v thirsty so gulped water which just seemed to sit there. A couple of small burps. Got back to sleep. Weirdly vivid dreams. This morning, not particularly hungry first thing.

Hi everyone,
I'm wanting to start this but I'm quite anxious of reports of thyroid cancer occuring in rats when taking this. I know you cannot always apply rat studies to humans but still.
Does anyone know anything else about this? Thanks

ifeelbeautifulbutunnoticed · 02/12/2022 02:53

Week 2 update- no weight loss at all. The few 0.2-5kg lost was regained even though I'm eating healthy and exercising. The appetite suppression I initially had has now disappeared. By Day 5, I began having food cravings especially at night. I'm told to just trust the process. Fingers crossed.

I had a consultation with a GP this week via Numan and he mentioned this. He reassured me that people have been taken Ozempic for years for diabetes. There hasn't been a single case of thyroid cancer in humans linked to the drug so no I'm not at all worried about it.

Are you taking it via Juniper or Numan? I have a coach and can ask questions like this (Numan) I think it would be worth taking to them if you do have one. It maybe that the higher dose would work better.

HermioneWeasley · 02/12/2022 06:26

@ifeelbeautifulbutunnoticed just stick with it. I think officially you’re not supposed to get any weight loss until you’ve built up to 1mg so anything in the meantime is a bonus.

@Fedupofdiets I'm taking it via Juniper and I've been chatting with my coach and she's the one who advised to trust the process. She said the 0.25mg is to introduce my body to the medication, not necessarily to see significant weight loss. Thanks for your willingness to help, that's very kind.

@HermioneWeasley I'm hanging in there. Thanks for the reassurance. xx

Friday night is curry night and having taken my second jab earlier in the day I happily had a small amount of chicken biryani and put the rest in the fridge intending to have it today. Was most put out this morning when I discovered my student DS had come in from a night on the razzle and scoffed the lot. Probably for the best but I’d been looking forward to the leftovers all morning!

Had my 4th dose yesterday and took 2 x 0.25mg as there was enough left in the pen. Today I've eaten one small protein bar and an apple for breakfast, a slice of cheese and a very small amount of pasta bake for lunch and am just having dinner of a bowl of soup and a tiny piece of bread and not sure I can finish it, feeling so full! Weird....

Windinmyhair · 03/12/2022 22:57

I've been thinking about starting something like this for years - can those of you on it help me

On the assumption (please correct me if I'm wrong) that you have all gone private for this :

Have you gone to a private GP or a pharmacy that stock?
What was the process like to get it?
How much is it?

Its a minefield of information and i'm wallowing in low level depression at the moment - about many things (that I think a lot of them fall back to my weight)

Help?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 04/12/2022 07:36

It can be prescribed by a doctor online. Various companies available and it costs upwards of £130 per pen. You fill in a form with your medical details, a doctor reviews it, asks any questions they have and then it comes through the post. It’s reasonably straightforward.

Your BMI needs to be over 30 when you start and you are supposed to lose 5% of your weight within the first 12 weeks.

The daily Mail is talking about Ozempic again but it has quite a scary health warning at the end:

Windinmyhair · 04/12/2022 11:46

I"m going to do it... Does anyone have a code for Juniper?

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 04/12/2022 16:39

Has anyone moved up towards to 1.5mg or 2mg? It looks like it would be an option with my provider. I know Wegovy (not currently available in the U.K.) titrates up to 2.4mg?

re side effects, serious and others, I considered this carefully before starting and ultimately had three main thoughts. First I bought through a reputable provider with clearly identified prescribers and senior advisers. There are various websites you can get a prescription when you google but with some is is at best opaque as to who you are actually dealing with. So I had people to call if I had concerns.

Second I will monitor my health and if I think I may be suffering serious effects can seek help quickly including privately as needed.

third whilst we can’t rule out it becoming clear in years to come that Semaglutide raises risk of thyroid cancer or perhaps other medical conditions, the bottom line that my weight was subjecting me to highly raised risk of many serious illnesses and early death which “just” trying to eat less and move more was singularly failing to address . So for me it was a calculated risk. I think it would be a different risk analysis with someone with a much lower BMI who was looking at it as a method to help lose 10 pounds to look extra hot in a bikini.

Outset23 · 04/12/2022 21:42

I’m going to join you all. My GP has prescribed me Ozempic - I’m waiting for my local pharmacy to get it in. I don’t know what dose I’ll be on as she said to go in and do the first injection at the surgery.

I’m 45 and a T2 diabetic, if I can lose 3.5 stone my weight will be in the normal BMI range so that’s my main goal. Really hoping this will work but quite nervous about it.

Thank you. This helps

LighterHeart · 05/12/2022 10:32

@StuckInTheUpsideDown I am currently taking 1.5 mg to finish off my last pen before I go on holiday. I have now reached my goal of 24 BMI (from 32 when I started) and want to see if I can maintain it / have more body recomposition with continuing diet and exercise.

I had already increased my dose to 1.5 in the summer, but went back to 1mg due to cost. I also found that changing my dose up or down tended to restart my weight loss after stalls - that probably would have happened anyway, but it helped me psychologically.

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 05/12/2022 13:35

Thanks @LighterHeart. Can I ask how you find appetite suppression on 1.5 against 1mg please?

Parpetrator · 05/12/2022 13:43

One week in and I seem to have actually put weight ON, despite eating less. Had some nausea and sleeping terribly. Please tell me it's actually worth it!

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 05/12/2022 13:46

@Parpetrator what dosage did you start on? Have you found yourself eating lots of carbs to try and starve off the nausea?

Parpetrator · 05/12/2022 14:10

@stuckintheupsidedown no, no more carbs than usual, I've just ignored it. I've started on .25 which juniper say to stay on for a month.... Second dose tomorrow!

LighterHeart · 05/12/2022 14:17

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 05/12/2022 13:35

Thanks @LighterHeart. Can I ask how you find appetite suppression on 1.5 against 1mg please?

I must admit that I don't even notice the appetite suppresion any more, so I suppose no difference.

What I do sometimes notice is an occasional appetite increase, usually caused by not eating sufficient protein (for my body size) at each meal. When I feel like I "need" some extra cheese or nuts after my meal... The next day I remember to offer myself a boiled egg first, if I still feel hungry - sometimes I do eat it, but sometimes it's not real hunger and I don't end up wanting it after all.

ashamed222 · 05/12/2022 18:22

Can somebody please send me a discount code?
I can't work out how to DM
It's been really inspiring hearing your stories and I'd really like to join you all.
I probably have 4 stones to lose.
The money is an issue does it work out at £200 per month?
