It would appear that all I do is stuff my face with crap, lots of crap.

I'm going to try and sort myself out, starting tomorrow.

I'm scared, I'm useless at dieting but it's getting serious. I'm so unhappy, I caught sight of myself in the window walking past Costa coffee today. It was grim.

Anyone want to join me?

Weigh day tomorrow.

I'm in. 5'3" and 11st 8lbs. My stomach is like a beach ball. I'm stopping the wine for a month as a start. Does anyone know of a good filling alternative to bread? I eat far too much of it.

TheLoupGarou · 03/10/2022 09:21

Well, I had to psych myself up before weighing this morning - scales have reset themselves to lb so I had to convert, but I'm 196lb - 14 stone. I'm 5ft 7".

When I was younger I could get down to about 10 stone but I'm mid 40's now - that feels like too much of a hill to climb. I think I'd be happy if I could get to 11st but really improve my fitness/health. Just having a cup of tea and thinking about what to eat for breakfast

thefurriesthen · 03/10/2022 09:22

I ummed and ahhed about doing a weigh in this morning, as I knew it would be bad - so I compromised by switching the measurement to stones, as I normally use kgs and have forgotten what a stone actually is. I am 12 st 2, which I know is overweight but it was a softer blow than seeing it in kgs 😅

A year ago, I was just under 60kg, so I have packed it on. I was one of those people that could rely solely on breastfeeding to lose weight, it just melted away - which was amazing, and I can honestly say that I looked great! But the flip side is that I got cocky and continued eating the same amounts (and reintroducing wine!) once my son was weaned. Weaning also coincided with Christmas, the first proper one we'd had with family since the pandemic and I went a little mad. I've been trying all year to get on top of it with zero success, but I've had enough now! Time to do something about it. I would like to lose at least a stone before Christmas.

greektreacle · 03/10/2022 09:22

I am also of lard. Went to yoga this morning for the first time in a very long time and bloody hell it's never been that hard before. Craving haribo but none in the house which was a wise move.

TheLoupGarou · 03/10/2022 09:22

Solidarity to all. I think I'm going to do sober October and see where cutting out wine and beer gets me, as well as healthy eating.

LadyHester · 03/10/2022 09:24

Ok. 12 stone 7. Could be worse, but could be 3 stone better.
just had an apple for breakfast.

Emmmie · 03/10/2022 09:25

154.3 lbs, hoping to go down to 140.0 lbs. My height is 5’4”, so this weight is not ideal. My big weakness is having tea and something sweet several times a day, so even if I had eaten well for the day, this habit adds extra 500 calories🙁. I really need to learn how to enjoy tea on its own.

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 03/10/2022 09:29

I have found my Fitbit and it is charging. I have put my weight and bmi into the app.

The first thing that I was greeted by earlier was half of a large bar of Galaxy chocolate. My reaction was to scoff it whilst the kettle was boiling. This would have meant instant failure so I binned it. Temptation gone.

Just about to amend my online food shop and take out all of the junk.

I really want toast so might go for a walk instead (I’m off this week so need to distract myself).

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/10/2022 09:31

@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks wow! You are stronger than me! Well done!

OhMalakas · 03/10/2022 09:34

OK, braved the scales, I knew I was huge but this has been a shock 19st 3 😭

I've planned my meals for the day using nutracheck app and decided to calorie count.

It feels very wrong throwing food away but it had to be done. I really want to do this, I'm so sick of being fat.

I'm so pleased that we have all braved the scales.

This time next week we can all weigh a little less.

Scales don't give you the full picture and weight in one week may not change much depending on water retention etc. I don't think anyone should fixate on the number on the scale over a short period of time as a measure of success or failure.

JayPritchet · 03/10/2022 09:44

Can I join? I'm 16ish stone(not weighed) at 5ft8, I've been crying for the last few days because I fit in nothing. I have pcos and I want to help manage my symptoms. I might struggle a little though because I faint when I get low blood sugar so I can't cut out sugar and I can't fast for extended periods of time.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/10/2022 09:47

I weighed in and was 13.11. A pound heavier than last time

AnnieHooo · 03/10/2022 09:48

Right this is it@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks.
Day 1.
Weigh in done. 15st 11lbs
Got my Fitbit on.
Working from home with my Couch25k gear on.

MrsEricBana · 03/10/2022 09:49

Just weighed in. 19.8lb over my goal weight. Bugger BUT I'm on it.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/10/2022 09:54

There's a weigh in board (can't remember name) somewhere here which I've been on for 6 months to a year.

Lots of support and if you do lose/gain they're supportive then. It really helps as we share what we've been up to including exercise, meal plans, health issues which can affect diet etc but seems like a good support thread if you're interested.

Morechunkthanfunk · 03/10/2022 09:56

Right so I’ve braved it and I’m 13st 10lbs (at 5’ 5) onwards and downwards…

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/10/2022 09:58

As a few others said, you have to find what works for you.

Over all the lockdowns, I was walking etc far more and thought diet was ok but I've tweaked it a bit over summer and have worked out:

  • water with squash (I prefer this to just plain water) means you don't mistake being thirsty for hungry
  • Dairylea triangles/Baby Bels (preferably lighter ones) do help you fill up as does fruit. I've tried with success to limit chocolate/cakes/healthy snack bars with fruit.
  • Exercise, any, whether its dancing round living room at home or walks really helps
  • I tend to halve carbs - so palm sized portion of rice/pasta and quarter potato.
  • Salads - huge ones.

Agreed re scales not giving full picture. I was weighing once a week but it was only after following new regime for whole summer that I suddenly noticed that jeans which had been tighter were noticeably looser, and black leggings too. I could see I was getting slimmer. I'd sort of noticed I'd lost weight or toned up but wasn't sure how/why.

You definitely don't need something sweet. What we found on other board was apple with cheese or apple with peanut butter or even peanut butter with date (one) helped.

You can get lower calorie biscuits Rich Tea lights but remember - you often do mistake hunger for thirst so try to just have the tea.

I've bookmarked a Ted Talk called "Sugar is not a Treat" to listen to later. Hopefully, it will put me off....
