It would appear that all I do is stuff my face with crap, lots of crap.

I'm going to try and sort myself out, starting tomorrow.

I'm scared, I'm useless at dieting but it's getting serious. I'm so unhappy, I caught sight of myself in the window walking past Costa coffee today. It was grim.

Anyone want to join me?

Weigh day tomorrow.

2.5lbs off this week, which feels good after last weeks dismal display!

@PaulineFowlersCardigan don’t be too hard on yourself, it’s so hard to give up smoking. If you’re going without tobacco and missing it, it’s not surprising you’re indulging in food and drink a bit more at weekends. We all need something to look forward to! I’m sure it will level off eventually, the first month or so is always a minefield.

Thomasina79 · 01/11/2022 12:21

Even if, in the middle of a good diet day you accidentally eat a cream donut, say, just carry on with the careful eating. In the grand scheme of things one cake won’t make a difference! X

Sodullincomparison · 01/11/2022 18:29

@Stravaig that completely makes sense. I can save money if that is my focus. If only I could zone out everything else in life this week and go for it. Let’s see what is possible.

Stravaig · 03/11/2022 08:11

I think my scales are broken.

I think my scales are broken.

Might it just be the batteries are cold- depending on where the scales are located?

That must be it!
(Not actually broken, just NOT MOVING :)

My thermometer refuses to work when it's cold, took me a while to work that out.

Stravaig · 03/11/2022 10:08

I admit, the belated nip in the air has lit a fire neath ma bahookie, I need to be able to fit into my winter clothes very soon!

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/11/2022 11:27

@PaulineFowlersCardigan you’ve done amazingly, don’t beat yourself up! I wish I could stop smoking!

@Thomasina79 I read about splitting the day into four. Morning. Lunch. Day. Evening. If you don’t achieve what you want in one part you’ve still got 3 others to achieve your goals. It’s made me be a lot kinder to myself.

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/11/2022 11:28

iv got my second session with my PT today, I’m loving it!

Ofgrace · 03/11/2022 23:48

Hi all! I would love to join, I’ve been lurking this thread but I’ve just got back from holiday and knew there’d be no point starting a diet beforehand. I put on 5 pound during my holiday but oh well it was fun!

Im 5ft 4
start weight: 13 stone 0

would love in an ideal world to be 12 stone by Christmas Day! Just need the motivation!

Stravaig · 04/11/2022 09:39

@Ofgrace The more the merrier!

@TabithaTittlemouse I love the idea of a PT, what sort of things do you do?

illiterato · 04/11/2022 10:49

@Ofgrace of course- New recruits always welcome! .

I suspect I’m heading for a small gain this week as haven’t been v diligent - inhaled an eton mess and the bread basket last night at a work dinner, plus a fair bit of wine, and about to go for a steak lunch. No social plans over the weekend ( other than a cuppa and gogglebox) so will try to rein it in a bit. Also a bit pre- menstrually bloated so hopefully I’ll deflate next week.

But overall trend in the right direction so not going to stress about it.

@TabithaTittlemouse i loved my PT but when I moved back to uk it just didn’t work to continue with her remotely. I’m keeping an eye out for another good one but at the moment just working out by myself. I like the idea of partitioning up the day as well.

@PaulineFowlersCardigan well done on the smoking. It’s so hard. Be proud of yourself. I am trying to cut down alcohol a lot as it was the main reason I’ve got overweight. I’m now only drinking if I go out but those nightly glasses of wine were such a tough habit to break.

Sodullincomparison · 04/11/2022 21:54

Hello team!

I’ve been completely awol this week due to a crazy work week and a fallen tree episode.

I haven’t weighed this week so will brave it tomorrow to keep me focused over the weekend. Think there will be a slight loss this week as today was the first time I had lunch.

DH made a pie earlier in the week. It was delicious but sat like a brick for days. We have since bought every type of indigestion medicine going.

we have booked a ski trip in February so I need to stay super focused otherwise I won’t be getting very far on the mountain.

@Ofgrace The more the merrier!

@TabithaTittlemouse I love the idea of a PT, what sort of things do you do?

@Stravaig A mixture of machines, weights and squats, lunges etc. She’s very gentle but encourages me to push myself. I think as the weeks go on she’ll be less kind! As a complete beginner it’s a great way to learn how to use equipment and not break anything although I am feeling pretty broken today! I’m hoping that it will give me the confidence to go alone.

Stravaig · 05/11/2022 05:41

@TabithaTittlemouse It sounds fantastic! Brilliant to learn good form right from the start, so every movement gives maximum benefit.

Sodullincomparison · 05/11/2022 06:05

@TabithaTittlemouse @Stravaig i think the PT sounds great. I’m the gym I always stick to what I know for fear of looking like an idiot!

Well done for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

I think that will be my challenge this week- to do something positive to improve my health apart from restricting unhealthy food and drink.

Looking dry tonight for the firework display and party nearby so I’ve offered to drive so I don’t have a few drinks and decide the burgers are far too tempting!!!!

Stravaig · 05/11/2022 06:18

The downside of the magically melting kilos weeks is how frustrating the slow but steady weeks seem afterwards. I've taken to trawling back through my log to reassure myself that yes, there are slooow periods, followed by rapid losses. I'm trying to be curious as to why, rather than getting so fed up I fall into a pile of sugary carbs.

I'm happily settled now into 850 calories, give or take, within an 8 (or 7 or 9) hour window. So any variation in rate of weight loss is internally generated. Hormonal? Something to do with how stored fat is metabolised? Anyone know the science? 🤷‍♀️

I need to focus more on non scale victories. My autumn parka is no longer uncomfortably snug. The jogging trousers I borrowed are starting to need a waist tie (which I had removed because it was digging in). I'm feeling generally good and clear and bright, I think, underneath the ongoing illness. Onwards!

illiterato · 05/11/2022 09:19

OMG scales. A whole pound? Seriously? It was one dessert and a pulled pork toast FFS... oh yeah and a few glasses of wine but whatever Grin.

@Sodullincomparison if you want to change it up, Youtube has loads of good videos on using weights machines/free weights. The machines are fairly idiot proof as they're designed to move within the correct range of motion, whereas with free weights (Dumbells, kettlebells and barbells) you choose the range of motion so it's easier to go wrong. Machines are having a renaissance after being cast out into the wilderness by Crossfit.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 05/11/2022 10:38

Hello

Can I join? Went shopping yesterday and the view from the changing room mirrors has made me realise I've got to do something now - it's so grim.

I really can't exercise much due to health conditions, am waiting for specialist physio to help me work out what's safe and what's not so I can only walk as my exercise (I'll never be able to jog which is gutting as I'd love to do couch to 5k) so I've got to do this with only food.

5ft 7 - 13 st 13

Sodullincomparison · 05/11/2022 19:40

@illiterato a YouTube video each day sounds like a good plan this week. That pesky wine!!!!

went to a firework display and my ski jacket zipped up by some miracle and a few weeks ago there was no chance so things are happening even if the scales are slow to show it.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 06/11/2022 14:17

I've lost 2.5lbs. Yay, go me ! Hope I can now continue this losing trend. I tend to sulk if I don't lose weight each week. Which is what happened last week.

Turns out, sulking doesn't burn any calories.

Well done everyone and good luck for the coming week's diet and fitness efforts.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 06/11/2022 14:23

I'm 5ft 3.5 inches 19st 8lbs

PeloFondo · 06/11/2022 14:25

Still 16.12.. I've had a week off exercise with this kidney infection so I'll take that as a win

Sodullincomparison · 06/11/2022 19:25

Tomorrow is an early start so I just weighed.

starting was 15’11
this week is 15’5

not fast and furious but heading in the right direction.

not eating out definitely helps to stay on track and I notice the weeks when I don’t have school lunches. Don’t tell the chef!!! 😂😂

AnnieHoooo · 06/11/2022 21:06

That's brilliant @Sodullincomparison !!! I want to be 15st 5. Packed lunch salad definitely works for me too. I don't think I've lost weight this week I can just feel I haven't. I did see 15st 6 flicker on the scales midweek though. Going to be mega prepped next week to keep on track. I so want to be in the 14's!!!
