any experience of ozempic

I've ordered my first pen of ozempic which will arrive to tomorrow and wondering if anybody can share experiences?

I've not found much on here and not on Facebook. I was previously on saxenda but it just didn't work out for me in the end i just got used to it. I initially felt side effects on saxenda and wonder if they will be similar on ozempic?

I was obese but have since lost weight and am now overweight. I have PCOS and feel like at times I'm literally addicted to carbs. I am hoping to lose about 10kgs

@Peridot1 can I ask how long it took for the tiredness to pass?
I started mid-May and am up to 0.5 and have lost 15llb which is slow but I'm happy with it.
I love the affect it has on my appetite and just feel more in control of food generally but the tiredness is seriously affecting me, to the point where I'm planning to miss my next dose so that I'm actually able to participate on my holiday.
Also, any tips on things that ease the tiredness??
Thank you!

To be honest @amarante if I only had a stone to lose I wouldn’t be taking it. It’s a medication after all. With side effects. It’s also around £140 a month.

I have always managed to lose a stone quite easily. It’s the next five that seem such a slog!

Thank you. I weight 60kilos but am quite short. I find it difficult to lose weight

Peridot1 · 30/07/2022 11:30

@capedavenger - I can’t really remember I’m afraid! I found going to bed earlier and trying to get lots of sleep helped. It was a few weeks I think.

@amarante what is your diet like generally? Is it heavy in carbs and processed foods? If so cutting those out may really help. If your diet is pretty good and you find it hard to lose then Ozempic may help. It has an effect on blood sugar which is why it’s given to diabetics. The weight loss is a side effect really. Dr Jason Fung’s book The Obesity Code is good as is the book Why We Eat (Too Much) by Andrew Jenkinson. Dr Fung’s theory is that high insulin levels cause obesity which leads to diabetes. I think the ‘old’ thinking and still held by many is that obesity causes high insulin levels and thus diabetes. Carbs are sadly not our friends! There is a brilliant low carb Bootcamp on here in the weight loss section. That may be worth a look at. I think they have just started a new Bootcamp last week so it’s a good time to jump in. Forgive me if I’m teaching you to suck eggs and you already know all this!

I'm about to start my 3rd month of Ozempic, 1st month at 0.5, then month 2 at 1.0, now 1.5, the side effects haven't been too bad, had a few days or terrible heart burn last month but it passed. I've lost 15 pound of my 3 stone target, but for 3 weeks in July I was in Florida, I'd gone away with the attitude that I would just eat what I wanted, we were at the parks so healthy choices were minimal, but I came home and have maintained, I think I did eat what I wanted but in such reduced portion sizes, rarely finished a meal and never had room for a dessert, I'm thrilled, normally the pattern for me would be to lose a stone before a holiday, then gain the vast majority back while I'm away, so to have not started back at the beginning feels great and I'm already losing again now I'm back.

ScruffGin · 10/08/2022 08:53

I've done 4 weeks at 0.25, and 2 weeks at 0.5, and haven't really lost any weight, I think I'll be one of those who it doesn't work at lower doses! I'm finding I get full quicker, but I'm so hungry in the mornings, whereas I didn't used to eat until lunchtime before (intermittent fasting)

Welshrarebitontoast · 22/08/2022 10:58

Just had the 2nd injection 0.5, have lost almost 7lbs.

Haven't made the changes I probably needed too diet wise. What sort of daily diet are you following please?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/08/2022 07:44

I am trying to follow the why we eat (too much) plan which is low sugar, low wheat, high omega 3 and low processed food. It has gone down ok even though it is quite high fat (full fat yogurt, coconut and olive oil, mackerel etc).

I was out for dinner last night and had mozzarella and then sea bass and potato in some sort of sauce. That did not suit the Ozempic plan and I have seen it again this morning. Not sure why, maybe just too much by volume, or too fatty a sauce or perhaps the Ozempic is building up as I had my third injection yesterday afternoon.

to be honest I haven’t been as strict as I aim to be but still losing as I am getting full so quickly and not going down binging rabbit holes like I would before.

Welshrarebitontoast · 23/08/2022 18:56

Thanks @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun !

Good to hear what people are doing. I’ve got into terrible habits and only eating one meal a day.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 24/08/2022 07:08

In terms for forming good habits, I love the No S Diet. It’s all available to read online here: nosdiet.com or there is a book.

Welshrarebitontoast · 24/08/2022 21:15

Thanks @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun just got a kindle version to mull over.

MrsGamgee · 25/08/2022 08:14

Hi all, can I ask what the actual needle is like? I am not good with needles so would be very nervous injecting myself. I'd probably have to ask DH to do it like I did when I had to take medication after the birth of DD (I cried every time he did it because I'm a wimp!)

Welshrarebitontoast · 25/08/2022 08:18

@MrsGamgee Its a very, very fine small needle. I would say barely thicker than a strand of hair.

MrsGamgee · 25/08/2022 08:20

@Welshrarebitontoast thank you, that's a relief! I think I will look into this, I need a boost to get back on the wagon after losing a lot and gaining a few stone back 😕 I'm trying the Fast 800 Keto but I'm just hungry. I would love to just not think about food ALL the time.

Peridot1 · 25/08/2022 08:49

@MrsGamgee - I’m not sure about the Fast 800 Keto. The whole point of Keto is that you are eating enough protein to not be hungry. So before trying a medication which is expensive and causes side effects try upping your protein and fats on Keto for a while and see if that helps. You shouldn’t be hungry. I know the benefits of fasting but maybe just try Keto for now and then when you have lost weight add in the fasting element?

I was worried about that too and initially wanted the tablets because I didn't think I could inject myself.
In fact the needle is so tiny that it's all very easy and painless. I've had no issues at all.

kikiterrific · 29/08/2022 00:27

Hi all, where can I get more needles from?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/08/2022 07:24

I got some from chemist 4 u here: www.chemist-4-u.com/glucorx-finepoint-needles-32g-4mm-pack-of-100. I couldn’t find the brand that comes in the pack in the same size but these fit the pen are fine.

Any updates from anyone? I've really enjoyed hearing about your journeys. When I get back home (to France) in a couple of weeks; I am going to try and see if I can get a prescription. But maybe I should try and get it here.... Hmm
Thanks and good luck.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 02/09/2022 17:42

Hello. My update isn’t very exciting yet. I am coming to the end of my first four weeks on 0.25. I lost loads the first week (2kg/4.4lb). Then it has been much slower and up and down. I am now 0.7kg lighter than at the end of the first week so 2.7 kg (nearly 6lb) altogether. I haven’t been very strict at all with my eating plans and there have been lots of temptations but I do reach a point where I just can’t eat anymore a lot sooner than I did before which is weird when I am enjoying something. Side effects have been minimal although I was sick one morning.

I am planning to go up to 0.5 mg on Monday (using my 0.25 mg pen which seems to have plenty left) and get stricter with the food once the kids are back at school. I am quite optimistic about it at the moment.

PolarStar · 02/09/2022 17:42

@Wallywobbles I'm just about to start my fourth month, I'm on 1mg still which I tolerate fairly well, sometimes I feel a bit queasy the day after my jab, but I can live with this for the results! I've lost 24 pounds with another stone to go until I reach a healthy BMI. I'm scared about what will happen when I come off it though, I'm prone to a binge and worry that that desire will return when I'm off the meds, I would love to eat like this forever, I mainly eat a very healthy diet with low carbs but lots of veg and protein, and I often have a small amount of what I fancy and can just stop at a little bit. If you have a larger amount of weight to lose I would definitely give it a go.

PolarStar · 02/09/2022 17:47

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun I think I got 2 x 0.5 doses out of my 0.25 pen once the first 4 weeks were up. You're still on a very low dose and you'll hopefully see some good losses on the 0.5 dose.

Yes - I considered waiting until September but thought I might as well get the first four weeks under my belt before I got serious at the start of the school year on a bigger dose.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 02/09/2022 18:07

Well done on your 24lb PolarStar. That is inspiring.

I am not sure about coming off it either. I think the weight would just go back on. Perhaps the dose could be lowered once we reach a healthy weight.

lardass88 · 03/09/2022 09:54

Hi everyone. So I'm back on ozempic after taking a "week" ( which turned into a month) off - over the month I had off I put on 5lbs but I'm back on it now.
