hey @lardass88 (love your name btw 😅) how's it going? any side effects?
OK so firstly, i have pcos and i was certain that my blood sugars were off so I ordered a blood sugar monitor from amazon (£20ish) and tested my blood sugars. I was right. It said I was pre-diabetic. This prompted me to radically change my diet and it hasn't been easy but I have done it. I have really upped my exercise too.
I am eating a low carb diet and have cut out most sugars. I have also started intermittent fasting again. I am losing weight slowly, about 1kg a week, but this is more sustainable for me and I really need to change my eating habits long term. I would have lost so much weight on saxenda/ozempic v quickly but I just didn't get on with the jittery/anxiety type feelings it gave me.
So I won't have any food until midday. Last week I was off work so was eating fry ups for lunch basically sausages, bacon, eggs, fried mushrooms & a coffee. Snacks in between or after gym will be a protein shake, yoghurt, blueberries/banana/fruit. For dinner it's been brown rice, prawns, salmon, veg, chicken. For dessert a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate or 0% fat greek yoghurt with protein powder & blueberries/raspberries. I also made some coconut flour pancakes for breakfast at the weekend with yoghurt & berries and they were lovely, v little sugar but tasted sweet. Unsalted nuts are a good snack too. I am not really eating much carbs but I have had oats & banana for my first meal of the day and wraps and falafel for dinner. It was quite hard to get in to it and i still do miss sugar but the blood sugar readings are really motivating as they were basically saying I was predibetic. I am now 5.5 (instead of 7.7/8) and in normal range. I don't have cheat days as I really need my body to get used to having no sugar and I'm not great with only stopping at one biscuit/chocolate/sweet. It's been about two weeks now, or longer, I'm unsure and my bloating has gone down so much & my skin is glowing.
There is a low carb thread on here it's probably worth looking that up for some ideas as well but if you have any more questions just ask
Sorry to hear you're feeling down @Pennyhill22 . I understand and was there this time last year. I don't have any hormonal contraception for this reason - is there any chance you could get it changed to a copper coil? For me personally Saxenda (and I'm sure Ozempic although I wasn't on it for very long) was a very good kick start to lose weight and once you have that kick start it's easier to get going. Also have a look in to intermittent fasting if you have pcos as this could be restricting your weight loss. Dr Michael Mosley book Fast 800 & 8 week blood sugar diets are the same sort of read but will help explain it. YOu have been able to lose the weight before , what did you do then? Could you kick start that again?
