any experience of ozempic

I've ordered my first pen of ozempic which will arrive to tomorrow and wondering if anybody can share experiences?

I've not found much on here and not on Facebook. I was previously on saxenda but it just didn't work out for me in the end i just got used to it. I initially felt side effects on saxenda and wonder if they will be similar on ozempic?

I was obese but have since lost weight and am now overweight. I have PCOS and feel like at times I'm literally addicted to carbs. I am hoping to lose about 10kgs

Hi @SwayingInTime I started yesterday also.

So far no weird side effects which is what I was worried about. I also checked my blood sugar before I started (all good) and have been v good at drinking water today. Have eaten usual breakfast light lunch and don't feel overly hungry for dinner so may just have a protein shake so maybe working already?

How are you feeling today?

I'm on week 2 of an 0.25 dose.
Very few side effects except that I'm very tired. I've only just had Covid though so not sure which one is responsible.
My appetite has been restricted quite nicely and I've lost 4lb in ten days so far. I do find I still go through phases of being hungry and intensely craving sweet things. This usually settles with protein and water.

This Facebook group is quite busy and has good advice:

Hmm that's my worry, any weight will pile back on once I stop. I suppose you have to view it as a long term thing, or use the time on it to learn some better strategies around food.

AnnaMagnani · 21/05/2022 23:02

I'm several months in. My main side effects are indigestion - both avoidable to a large extent by a massive change in diet to high fibre, low fat foods which of course is great for weight loss anyway.

V weird to start with as I felt full and had to learn to stop eating and not clear my plate, or not stop and buy snacks at what turned out to be a large number of places I'd formed habits about - Ozempic gave me the help to break all these habits.

DH has actually lost weight too as I'm cooking much more healthy food, despite me often dumping half a portion over to him.

Total loss so far is 20kg and an amazing 20cm off my waist.

Don't know if I'll reach my target weight or what I'll do when I get there - suspect a very very slow wean down. But I'm very happy with what I've done so far, it's hard work and the Ozempic doesn't do it all by itself.

robotchez · 22/05/2022 12:15

Thanks for all the replies

I have lost my appetite a bit but not like Saxenda which realistically I couldn't maintain anyway Started off well but eventually started feeling anxious sad tired and just wasn't worth it. Lost about 10kgs on Saxenda because i wasn't really eating at all. Put 3kgs on since I stopped.

On Ozempic I have been exercising a bit more and have certainly eaten less rubbish and eaten less in general. Sometimes subbing a protein shake and banana after exercise instead of lunch

Side effects not too bad at the minute. Felt a bit light headed last week after exercise. But no sickness or indigestion etc. we will see though because I started off well on Saxenda and that didn't work out well!!! I do prefer Ozempic to Saxenda so far The absolute loss of appetite on Saxenda isn't great I don't think

Hi all. Am ordering my first pen tomorrow. Just wondering when is best to take it? Morning or evening

AnnaMagnani · 26/05/2022 18:32

I take it randomly whatever time of day I remember/DH is out of the room as he still doesn't know I'm on it. Gods knows how he thinks I'm losing weight, he's very uncurious.

Doesn't matter, it works consistently for over a week before it wears off. I had a break for a holiday and the effects lasted over 10 days.

robotchez · 27/05/2022 06:42

I took it before bed @lardass88 because I read that would mean you would sleep off any side effects. Have only taken it twice now and never in the daytime so don't know otherwise!

How are you getting on @AnnaMagnani ? Have you been on it a while? I took my second shot yesterday and haven't really felt any different/lose of appetite since the initial couple of days.

Thanks @robotchez

Can I just ask how people are finding it compared to saxenda?!

I tried saxenda for months and it had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever. So although this is cheaper (and easier) I'm wondering whether it's just something in me that means it won't blooming work!

AnnaMagnani · 27/05/2022 09:05

I think I was v lucky as I responded even to the smallest dose - company was v clear not to expect this.

I am about 5 months in and have lost 22kg/3st 6 with ideally another stone to go - not sure that one will happen.

I'm on 1mg now and it was a slog getting there - I used click charts on line to titrate more slowly up to the 1mg as I had a lot of side effects increasing.

It's a weird mix of you not being able to eat, not wanting to eat and then having the space to change all your bad eating habits - this was really really hard but given how sick I felt when I made a mistake, it was a big motivator to learn, I've got through a lot of Gaviscon.

lardass88 · 27/05/2022 19:40

Thanks for the replies. Off to order my first one now

Wagsandclaws · 27/05/2022 20:00

Me I've been on it forever a year now.

I have to take it for type 2 diabetes but it also made me lose 1.5 stone.

0.25 didn't do anything but 0.5 did. Im on 1mg now and I find I just can't overeat at all.

It's licenced in the states due weight loss but it's for a new name which is Wegovy. The dose is 3.5 mg and I fully expect it to be here in that dose quite soon.

For me it's been a miracle drug. Not only has it reduced my appetite massively but it's reduced my blood glucose levels by half.

I know people who have lost stones on it, some of the side effects weren't great to start with but I have none now and didn't from about the 3/6 month mark.

Good luck on your weight loss journey. I heard this described as a gastric band in a needle and I would say that's quite accurate for how much it can reduce your appetite and portion sizes.

robotchez · 27/05/2022 20:44

I've only just started and Wednesday gone took my second dose. I haven't really felt much side effects. A couple of light headaches slight dodgy tum. I dont have any appetite reduction now so would be interested to hear what it was like when you went from 0.25 to 0.5 @Wagsandclaws ?

This is a very different experience to saxenda for me where I initially had no appetite at all and lost about 10kgs over two months. But after that time the side effects were not good. Terrible constipation and feeling of doom/anxiety.

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 28/05/2022 07:36

I can't imagine taking the Wegovy doses. OK I've been v sensitive to it and lost a load of weight straight away but at 1mg doing a poo can be a challenge if I don't eat right/have some Laxido stashed.

At 3.5mg I think my bowels would just grind to a halt.

@robotchez any time I've found the side effects unbearable I've just gone down to a lower dose for a while, or not gone up as quickly. A lot of users have posted charts of how you can count the clicks of the pen on line, so you don't have to go from 0.5 to 1mg as recommended. I stayed at 0.75mg for a while plus you can get more doses out of a pen

robotchez · 28/05/2022 09:23

That is interesting @AnnaMagnani it sounds as though I need to wait until my dose is increased to feel any effect?

Where are the online titrate counters online? Please don't say Facebook I don't have an account!

I just put Ozempic click chart into google. There are good ones on google images.

robotchez · 28/05/2022 10:18

Found them thank you @AnnaMagnani

I bit the bullet and ordered the low dose pen. It should be here on Sunday. Feeling a bit apprehensive about not knowing what to expect - do I have to keep the pen in the fridge all the time ( I'm not keen on my daughter knowing I'm doing this) when is the best time to inject and how will it make me feel? Do I need to change my eating habits such as the types of food I eat? If I do eat fatty food will there be side effects?

AnnaMagnani · 02/06/2022 19:32

Once it arrives the pen doesn't have to be in the fridge. I keep mine + sharps box hidden in the airing cupboard as my DH doesn't know I'm on it and there is no chance he'll look in there.

Each pen is good for 6 weeks so at the lower doses you can get more doses out of the pen than they send you needles, I bought more needles online.

Doesn't matter when you inject, you don't notice anything at the time.

And yes, you will need to change what food you eat! I found this was a very natural and gradual process for me. My desire to eat chocolate basically wore off very fast, plus it was making me feel uncomfortably full/sick. Just cutting out that and the weight fell off.

Then as the doses went up I needed to reduce my portions and cut out fat. I started learning to leave food on my plate if I was full when eating out. If I eat anything fatty I'll wake up at 2am with reflux - I've had a lot of Gaviscon.

Now on 1mg it makes me constipated. So it's low fat, low carb, high fibre, v small portions sort of Mediterranean diet I've gone for. Which is great because it's a really healthy diet which I like eating.

lardass88 · 02/06/2022 19:43

@AnnaMagnani thank you for replying and for the great advice. I'm not a massive chocolate fan, it's my portion sizes I need to cut back on and stop eating so many takeaways.
