My story so far:
I started a thread “Lockdown stones to lose” in early June last year. I had nearly 3 stones to lose and was very determined. At times I did very well and at one point had lost over 1.5 stones.

Loads of people joined and then left and I think only four of us remained at the end. I kept plodding on. Just after Christmas I became ill for seven weeks (Covid related). I couldn’t do much or go out so my weight ballooned. I still kept plodding on. Then one of my dogs suffered an horrendous attack and whilst nursing her I just about lived on chocolate.

So here I am nearly 11 months later, most likely very nearly back to square one. I keep reminding myself that last time I said I would not give up no matter what! Will you join me tomorrow morning? I would love some company.

Hi everyone. Sorry I dropped off. Partly personal stuff but also site things - keep getting error messages!

I've not weighed myself again yet. I actually found that when I got my surprising weigh in, it demotivated me 🤔 I think because I thought my diet wasn't too good but I still lost some weight, so having to really push myself. It's pouring down today, so might not get out for a walk until later (if I even go, bouncing off the ground at the moment). But I'm working and don't want to look bedraggled between meetings! 😂

triplecheeese · 11/05/2022 13:05

Weigh in Wednesday (on the dreaded new scales)...

SW: 70kg... 11st
CW: 69kg... 10st 12

back in the 10s!

Or... nearly back to where I thought I was before buying the new scales 😂

@poorpaws your food shop sounds excellent! I'm a bit of a salad dodger myself, I love veg but I'm in a rut of convenience cooking. So I'm trying make interesting salads for lunches, and make family dinners instead of takeaways. Mixed results but seen a loss, so need to keep it up. How often do you weigh in?

On another topic, I caught an old episode of Supersize vs Superskinny before. Lawd almighty, weren't we horrible to ourselves in the noughties? Gillian McKeith (remember her?) with a megaphone shouting BAN BIG BUMS, voiceover calling the participants "scrawny"/"bony" and "tubby"/"fatty" and Anna Richardson chucking round comments like "you're mental" without a second thought. It's hard enough to be kind to yourself and make good choices nowadays, but I used to consume this toxic nonsense like it was normal...

ClinkeyMonkey · 11/05/2022 14:01

@triplecheeese That's where I want to be - in the tens😭😭 Anyway, well done (and I am jealous!)

I feel I'm doing ok. The scales may tell a different story though. I dug out the old kettlebells yesterday and am aching all over today, so decided not to do my run in the interests of health and safety. I did manage a decent extended school drop off, where I walked DS2 to school, then took the long way home via the local sports fields. I do that as often as possible, but sadly the route to and from my fridge is better trodden, if a little less scenic!

poorpaws · 11/05/2022 14:47

@triplecheeese you beat me to the 10s 😢 very well done and I too am very jealous. Earlier this year I reached 10sts 10.5 lbs but soon went back into the 11st zone when I was unwell. I am determined to get back there and pass it but I've got a few meals out planned (not a regular thing for me) so I'll have to plan carefully.

I think you may give me incentive to keep on to try to catch you up. Massive salad and two thick burgers for dinner (without bread rolls) so only burger calories really. Very well done for getting out of the pesky 11s, it's not easy.

poorpaws · 11/05/2022 14:50

@ClinkeyMonkey you always make me smile with your comments, you did on the last thread too, you have a natural wit (doesn't help with the slimming though 🤔).

BeyondMyWits · 11/05/2022 14:51

Dh on a training course today including dinner, so I'm having a tesco finest curry for mine
... with loads of veg.

A calorie counted ready meal stops me straying too far when he's not here. So even though its a 470 calorie treat of a meal, it doesn't push me up to takeaway levels.

triplecheeese · 11/05/2022 16:15

Bloody love a kettlebell workout @ClinkeyMonkey but they are the worst* for soreness the next day so you are a champ to be out walking!

*Except one time many many years ago, I decided to join my much fitter friend on a race walk thinking "it's only walking". My poor old nan had to lift me out of the bath after.

@poorpaws you will get there again! i believe the setbacks and ups and downs are just (a crap) part of the process. If it was easy we wouldn't all be in this boat. All
aboard shipmates...

Thanks for the good wishes. I've been hovering around 11st since Christmas so will see what happens over the next few weeks.

Also I just finished doing something stressful, so shoved half a giant Lindt bunny in my mouth. Whyyyyyyy

TimeToLose8 · 11/05/2022 21:15

Evening all
Well I started the day well, down 0.6lb, and managed a decent breakfast/lunch, but of course dinner and beyond just pelted downhill. 2 glasses of wine, a fair few pringles and a piece of toast. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I blame the weightless.
As for exercise, chasing those flaming chickens every time they escaped from their half finished run. The husband said, oh let them out, then disappeared for half an hour, by which time I was decidedly fed up. Still all finished now, I only have to chase them to get them back in the henhouse, as they haven't got the hang of their new ramp.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/05/2022 23:41

@ClinkeyMonkey kettlebells are good... I once did a workout using those (which I was fairly used to at the time) and an activation band (which I wasn't)... OUCH is all I'll say Shock

I'm due to do a 5K sponsored walk at the weekend with the DCs @triplecheeese , then a 3K walk with them for their sports club - I'm not sure how that it was wise to agree to both on the same day Hmm

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/05/2022 23:46

My cousin keeps chickens too @TimeToLose8 - says they're much more intelligent than his dog! He has a beautiful Lab who is very sweet, but not the brightest Grin

Thank you for your words of encouragement @poorpaws - thankfully DTS1 has been much better today, I think he'd got majorly hangry and it was a downward spiral into meltdown from there. I'm just so flipping exhausted though, not helped by MN's app being terrible and not letting me do anything, so I have to wait till I get 10 minutes at the end of the day to read/ post! Hope you managed a decent dog walk between the rain showers?

poorpaws · 12/05/2022 08:05

Good morning

I don't know where yesterday disappeared to, I had no sooner got up than it was time for bed. I did quite well with food but the exercise wasn't so good as it rained all morning so we did a shorter dog walk in the afternoon. I've got all the right gear for walking in the rain but two out of my three dogs hate it and look at me as if I'm a serial killer when I suggest we go out in it.

Today the sun is shining so hopefully it will be a very different story and I'll get my 10,000 steps done.

I've nothing much to report really other than I'm still trying and still finding it difficult at times but I'm keeping going. It's so so easy to gain weight, if it was an Olympic sport I'd easily get gold.

On we go, plodding on to win the race. I hope you all have a very good Thursday.

GoodMorning

@poorpaws hope you get a good walk done today which will make you feel better.

Weigh in day today, first one since my first weigh in. Surprisingly I've lost 5 pounds and waist is down 2 inches. I know most of that will be water retention and my weight loss will slow now to slowly and steady. I've been eating really well all week so it's the boost I need to carry on.

Hope everyone has a good day.

BeyondMyWits · 12/05/2022 09:01

@endlesswashing

That is bloomin marvellous! Well done. It is soooo uplifting when you see a decent outcome for your efforts. Fantastic result. I'd have a beaming smile from ear to ear all day!

endlesswashing · 12/05/2022 09:11

Thank you @BeyondMyWits I'm really pleased.
So hard but worth it when you get the results.

ClinkeyMonkey · 12/05/2022 12:10

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl and @triplecheeese Yeah kettlebells are great. 'Hey Clinkey, I need something to hold this down while I hit a nail in'. Kettlebell. 'Oh, this rug keeps curling up at the corner. If only ...' Kettlebell. Anyway, at least now they're getting used in the way they were intended! But I'm still very, very sore. My 9yo saw me trying to get up from rummaging in the cupboard and said 'Do you need a hand there little old lady?' I know I'm an older mum but crikey, kids can be blunt (and funny😃)

@poorpaws Your dogs ain't dumb. I hate walking in the rain. I have one of those Seasalt waterproof coats that go halfway down my legs and I still hate it. I don't mind running in the rain so much as there are fewer people about to witness the sheer tragedy that is me run-walking (ralking?) I really am very slow. Glad the eating side of things is going well for you.

I'm managing to stay away from crisps, biscuits and cake. I also had a baked potato last night, even though I made chips for everyone else. In saying that, they were air fryer chips so not much oil, but I figured the potato skin would fill me up more and stop me plundering the fridge later on. Those are the sort of things that worked for me losing weight before, but I'm a good bit older now and the fat must like me, as it's clinging round my waist for dear life!

VenusStarr · 12/05/2022 13:28

Just sharing a little win. I've had quite a poor appetite these last couple of weeks, can't finish meals etc. My meeting overran and I hadn't prepared anything to eat for lunch and nearly reached for crackers and cheese as a quick 'something' but remembered I had some salad leaves, sun-dried tomatoes and some left over pork. So had that and actually enjoyed it. Managed to get out for a walk before work too, going I can do a longer one later as well.
:)

ClinkeyMonkey · 12/05/2022 14:39

@VenusStarr That's really good. I think it's really hard not to reach for the 'easy' stuff when the day goes a bit 'off schedule'. If I get an urgent phone call to go to my mum's (she has Alzheimer's), it throws me right off my stride, not just the stress, but the fact it might happen during a time I would normally be eating. Then I just want to grab a packet of crisps and a KitKat!

gonelululemoncrazy · 12/05/2022 16:15

Hi everyone. Has anyone tried the Me.Dance weight loss plan? The idea of dancing everyday as opposed to running/going exercises I've found on Pinterest I am finding quite appealing atm.

BeyondMyWits · 12/05/2022 17:57

@VenusStarr The small wins add up!

I had my own today, dh and I have a week and a bit off together from today, kids are at uni... a week ALONE together... (n.e.v.e.r. happens.... never!).

Went to the mall at Cribbs Causeway to buy a few bits and stopped for lunch. Had a cup of tea (instead of a milkshake) and a Pret sandwich which was mainly salad instead of a pizza from Pizza hut.

We are having pie for tea (so I kept that in mind)... but mine will be pie and veg, not pie and chips...

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/05/2022 23:12

@ClinkeyMonkey my kettlebells are also sometimes used as weights to hold things down Grin kids eh - DTS1 said to me earlier "mummy you could have another baby in your tummy, it's a bit fat" - he's 6 and has ASD and hence no filter, but not what I wanted to hear!

@poorpaws I don't mind walking in the rain so much, but having wet dogs around the house afterwards is no fun either!

Big well done to @endlesswashing, please send on some of your motivation Smile

I haven't tried that plan @gonelululemoncrazy but I like dancing and frankly will try most things to lose weight so if you give it a go do let us know what you think!

Thelongdarkteatime · 13/05/2022 06:10

I’m still here and reading, but finding it quite time consuming with the new format so haven’t posted as much.

Weigh in today: have lost another 1.5lbs so that makes 6lb in 4 weeks which I’m pleased about. My BMI has gone from 28.5 to 27.4

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday.

TimeToLose8 · 13/05/2022 07:06

Well done @VenusStarr and @Thelongdarkteatime , I just keep climbing up rather than down the scale.

Although I had a decent walk yesterday all went down the pan when some neighbours we hadn't seen much of arrived, bearing wine, eggs and a couple of carrots! They were off in holiday for a month, so I was the lucky one the got the stuff from the fridge.

If the rain keeps off today I'll have a good session in the veg garden, but have other friends coming for coffee and cake this afternoon. I shall ensure that I have a sliver rather than a slice.

I'm sorry to read about your mum, @ClinkeyMonkey , I have similar, but it is my poor sister that gets the calls as she lives near her.

VenusStarr · 13/05/2022 08:18

Morning. Thank you for the support @TimeToLose8 @BeyondMyWits pleasantly surprised to find I've lost 3/4 of a lb, which I'm pleased with as haven't really been on it.

Well done @Thelongdarkteatime that's fab.

Hope you can get in the garden today @TimeToLose8

ClinkeyMonkey · 13/05/2022 09:55

@Thelongdarkteatime Great result. I love hearing about losses - it definitely encourages me to keep going.

Well, the pain from Tuesday's kettlebell workout has subsided somewhat. I did some interval running this morning rather than the more endurance type jogging. I must admit the short bursts of mad running interspersed with brisk walking appeals to me as I like variety. Sometimes I get a bit bored just chuntering along. I'm the same with knitting/crochet. I need lots of colour/stitch/shape changing to stop me throwing in the towel. The healthy eating is going well. Had chickpea and peach curry with brown rice for dinner last night, which is one of my favourites.

Happy Friday to everyone!

ClinkeyMonkey · 13/05/2022 09:56

Oh, meant to say well done to @VenusStarr too!
