Hard to believe itโ€™s April already ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in๐Ÿ˜Š What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Went for a cracking 10k walk this afternoon to celebrate finishing work for over a week - wooohooo! It was a nice walk through a local little town, out into a nature reserve and back again - the photo is from a bridge over a weir into the River Test. Felt so very English- glorious sunshine too Smile

Eating wise, it's supposed to be one of my lower calorie days as I weigh in tomorrow morning but I've eaten my usual daily calories - haven't eaten back the exercise and there was a lot of it today as went out again later to take advantage of late night shopping.

We're away for a birthday on Sunday for a night which will definitely be a 'fuck it' type of evening although I'm going to take vodka with me so I don't bloat out on wine or cider. I'm sure that's the sensible option Confused I haven't really drunk since NYE, so really looking forward to it.

Happy start of the long weekend everyone Daffodil

@buzzofthebumblebee ahh thank you so much

@SanFranBear I love eggs, so quick tasty and healthy

I've joined ww on a trial finding it hard to follow may have a peek at ww threads on here. Only been 2 days though. The allowance seems VERY low but I think it's cos I need to find the knack of it and make best use of the 0 points foods which I haven't much in at mo plus I MUST get up the courage to use new cooker!

SanFranBear · 15/04/2022 11:11

My downward trend continues with a 1.5lb loss this week:

SW - 104.7kg
CW - 86.8kg
April GW - 85kg

I'm hoping next week I'll break through to my pre-pandemic weight and then by the end of the month hit that 85kg, which will be 3 stone down overall. Its going to be a stretch but worth a shot Smile

I'm off out for my longest hike this afternoon (20k) but it is looking glorious and will take a packed lunch with an eye on a pub for a cuppa halfway round. Eggs for breakfast so hoping for lots of energy to get me powered round the first part - it's very coastal so will try and get a nice pic.

SunshineCake · 15/04/2022 11:24

Got my name back.

DD tried again ๐Ÿ’”. Hoping to see her this afternoon after zero contact for three weeks.

Graphista · 15/04/2022 15:13

@SunshineCake oh that sounds like good news hope it goes well Thanks

DrRuthGalloway · 15/04/2022 15:45

Hello all!
I am fat. I weigh more now than when 9 months pregnant. I am also teetering on menopausal, on HRT, and am on sertraline for anxiety caused by my kids taking it in turns to have a series of serious health conditions since 2016. I have lipeodema and my legs and butt are huge.

I need to shape up. I dare not weigh myself at present but thought I might do measurements for a while. Is that acceptable? Can I join?

I intend to do an 8 week 800 cal diet, followed by a low carb Mediterranean style.

fallfallfall · 15/04/2022 16:35

Positive thoughts @SunshineCake1.
Unsurprisingly i too tested positive yesterday afternoon after waking up with a sore throat. Good news it didn't interfere with the fasting exercise but did throw my food choices off a bit (not for the better).
the timing works out well as i will be done my 5 days of isolation before my mammogram on the 20th, laser eye procedure on the 22, and visit to see the youngest ds on the 26th.
stay focused everyone, onto the last half of the month!!!

Crazzzycat · 15/04/2022 16:38

Welcome to the thread @DrRuthGalloway! Of course doing measurements is just fine. Do whatever works for you. I didnโ€™t weigh myself for months when I first joined this thread.

Iโ€™m so sorry to read your update @SunshineCake. That must be so hard. I hope you get to see your DD today.

SunshineCake · 15/04/2022 18:45

Confused @Graphista. There's no good news.

We have seen her. She's been in hospital since Monday and only rang us yesterday because they made her. She tried to take her life again.

I just feel so sick, scared, worried, shocked.

Thanks @Crazzzycat. We did see her. Was very hard. She wanted to leave.

DrRuthGalloway · 15/04/2022 19:41

Sunshinecake I apologies for my insensitive timing in joining the thread.

Mental illhealth in a child is the worst thing. It's the most disempowering, heart wrenching thing I have ever been through. I could do nothing to help my young adult, couldn't even advocate for them properly like I could if, say, he'd broken his leg and wasn't able to see that it needed treatment.

Wishing your dd better times ahead.

SanFranBear · 15/04/2022 19:45

I'm glad you got to see her at last, Sunshine, however painful it must have been. Do you know of her plans for when she is able to discharge - will she be coming home with you?

I managed my walk although somehow completely lost the car park when I made it back to the town from the wilderness so wandered around for probably about 40 minutes, trying to find my car. My legs were crying!! But - it was beautiful out there.. I'll post a pic in a bit although most of my photos had my fat finger in the corner as it was so sunny, I couldn't see what I was doing!

DrRuth - measurement are a great way to see some progress.. I'm kind of kicking myself for not doing that at the start as I am definitely seeing some change (I fit better in my bath if nothing else!) Good luck with the Keto - it's a bit extreme for me but I've heard people get good results. The low-carb Mediterranean diet however - yum, am all over that Grin

BaconAndAvocado · 15/04/2022 19:51

Hello again all and Happy Easter!

After losing half a stone in March Iโ€™ve very much fallen off the wagon recently. From Tuesday onwards Iโ€™m jumping back aboard and aim to lose a lb a week.

Just got back from a few days in Suffolk which involved lots of walking with the dog but also lots of pub lunches......

Just need to get back in the zone now.

SunshineCake1 · 15/04/2022 20:01

No apology needed @DrRuthGalloway but I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

She won't be coming home for a while I suspect @SanFranBear.

SanFranBear · 15/04/2022 20:03

A tale of two halves...

First half of my walk was along the coastline beside a bird sanctuary - so bright and refreshing and full of people Grin

Second half went more inland, across farmers fields and amongst the woods and animals - absolutely deserted.

Crazzzycat · 16/04/2022 00:25

That looks like a great walk @SanFranBear. Itโ€™s difficult to beat a nice walk along the coast!

I finished my rowing challenge today ๐Ÿฅณ It was as hard as I thought it was going to be and I am frankly amazed I made it to the end. Iโ€™m going to take a few days off exercising to aid recovery and will get started again next week. Have a good weekend everyone!

P.S. is your daughter now finally going to get the help she needs @SunshineCake? Or is the support likely to be as rubbish as it was the last time?

SunshineCake · 16/04/2022 07:20

It is better this time @Crazzzycat in that they sectioned her more so and she has been in their care since Monday and will be until at least Tuesday and probably longer.

They gave us a diagnosis and casually said she has autism but it is hard when she says one thing and then another. If I contradict her I am worried she will stop talking to them and us as doesn't want the questions. Questions isn't the word I mean but I can't think what I mean. I'm so exhausted.

Crazzzycat · 16/04/2022 11:40

I hope things calm down for you and your DD soon @SunshineCake1

From personal experience, I can tell you that getting a diagnosis can make a real difference, but your DD is likely to need some time to get her head around it. When my DS was diagnosed, there was initially a lot of anger and frustration, but heโ€™s a much more calmer and confident person now as a result of his diagnosis.

Heโ€™s found a lot of support online, and when your daughter is ready she may be find it useful to have a look at the #actuallyautistic hashtag on Twitter. People use that to share their person experiences of being autistic. A lot of people talk about the positives, as well as the negatives, so itโ€™s much better than most websites about autism, which are often written by people who are not autistic themselves and unfortunately often full of incorrect stereotypes.

8stone13 · 16/04/2022 11:47

Oh no @SunshineCake I'm so sorry.

I've been away for the week & just opened Mumsnet for the first time. I saw your other thread & some of the appalling posts on there, I thought you handled it very well although you shouldn't have been required to do so.

I don't know what to say. As you know I'm Autistic as is my DS, my DD is as yet undiagnosed but very much has features. Autism in girls is under-diagnosed & can lead to this presentation, I'd see what support you can get for going down that road. So many females are diagnosed with depression/anxiety/BPD when they're actually Autistic. Without diagnosis & support they mask until they can do so no more. Do you know anything about how she ended up in hospital, who got her there? That might give some clues. If she's sofa surfing her friend's parents might realise how serious things are now & be more likely to liaise with you?

Sending support & a hand hold x

Crazzzycat · 16/04/2022 11:48

Iโ€™m back on the diet today after two weeks of throwing caution to the wind..

My plan for today is:

Skyr yoghurt with mango and blueberries
Falafel, humus & salad bowl
Tofu & veg stir fry

I may attempt a gentle walk. Iโ€™d love to go to my local beach after seeing @SanFranBearโ€™s photos, but fear it will be packed with people. Iโ€™m too much of an antisocial hiker to enjoy that! ๐Ÿ˜„

Btw, does anyone have any suggestions for high protein veggie snacks? My protein intake isnโ€™t terrible for a vegetarian, but apparently I should be aiming for about 100g a day with the amount of exercise I do. I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever hit that.

8stone13 · 16/04/2022 11:58

Hello all ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

Back after another week in London.

๐Ÿ˜’ to this:

Sat 16th April - 9s 7lb
BMI 22.0
BF 25.3

The bonkers thing is that this time I ate far less, I was too busy. A couple of days I went to bed hungry & woke up hungry to the point of nauseous ๐Ÿ˜ฌ And I looked visibly thinner. Last time I ate loads & stayed the same weight, this time I ate far less & have put 3lb on ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ As I was coming back last night I thought I bet I've actually put on weight despite eating less...must have had a premonition!

I've just got to hope some of it is water weight. And perhaps caused by the temperature warming up... โ˜€๏ธ ๐Ÿค”

I'm trying to remember NSVs & not letting the scales take away from how I'm feeling, which is pretty good. I managed to buy some new clothes & jewellery whilst away which lightened my mood, so I'll try & hang on to that ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

TheRealHousewife · 16/04/2022 14:06

Good Afternoon Everyone

Not active due to having a crappy cold โ€ฆ. Iโ€™d forgotten how lousy they made you feel.

Keep doing what your doing and Iโ€™m hoping normal service will resume next week โค๏ธ

Can I just say the autism diagnosis doesn't bother us. It isn't really new though it is ifswim. It is a different diagnosis that we are dealing with. Well hopefully know more on Tuesday.

Crazzzycat · 16/04/2022 16:08

I donโ€™t think anyone was implying that the autism diagnosis was a problem for you @SunshineCake1. I just wanted to give you some reassurance that for some people getting an official diagnosis can make a massive difference to how they think and feel about themselves.

SunshineCake1 · 16/04/2022 18:55

I was more worried it seemed like I had said it was an issue or thought it was, from the posts since @Crazzzycat. Forgive me. I'm so exhausted.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 16/04/2022 22:35

Battery low so have skimmed the updates. 11st 3, doing well despite being away. More walking has helped and keeping an eye on calories.
