But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

Day 1 a success. I didn’t get my 10,000 steps but did an hour’s workout. Had a relaxing bath for my brain nap. And stuck to my food plan for the day (which I listed earlier in the thread). I thoroughly loved all the food and surprised myself that the lack of carbs didn’t leave me hungry. And I didn’t feel like I was on a diet at all, especially with the nuts, and peanut butter

HardRockOwl · 05/04/2022 20:56

Sounds like a great start @EssexLioness

Once you're in the swing of it - and it doesn't take long - hunger doesn't seem to happen really.

EssexLioness · 05/04/2022 21:06

That’s good to know about the hunger. I was a bit unsure whether I had just been lucky today with that!

EssexLioness · 05/04/2022 21:13

Is sugar free muesli allowed on plan? I’m guessing not because of the dried fruit?

EssexLioness · 05/04/2022 21:16

Anyway bedtime is an issue for me. Terrible for staying up late in my iPad etc so I’m turning this off now and going to bed. Will read a chapter of my book before going to sleep.

HardRockOwl · 05/04/2022 21:32

A sugar free muesli would be fine? But yep, not the delicious Alpen - although it's only the original one that's delicious now I think about it!

You could make your own using the below ingredients which I've whipped off a website

Grains: Rolled oats, wheat bran, whole rye, whole barley, sorghum flakes, quinoa flakes, millet puffs, millet flakes.

Nuts/seeds: Sliced almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pepitas, chia seeds, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes.

I'm sure I've seen coconut flakes in a few breakfast recipes so all the above is on plan, give or take

I should go to bed and read soon as well. This pillar isn't easy for me but I'm better than I was

Hi all,

How's it gone for everyone today?

I've been very good food wise but no steps as had a bonkers day at work (didn't leave my desk)!

Getting sugar cravings around 4/5pm.... but if I can get past those until tea I'm ok.

Away with work for a couple of days now so will do my very best. I've got a packed halloumi salad for tomorrow lunch!

indiesearcher · 05/04/2022 22:01

Does anyone have any ideas of things I can get in an office canteen that would be on track? A soup should be ok??

indiesearcher · 05/04/2022 22:11

Oh and food log:

Coconut Bircher (loved this recipe, basic vanilla Bircher recipe but sub 75ml milk for coconut water and add 4 tablespoons of dessicated coconut) sugar free of course.

Snack, coco almonds

Lunch - goats cheese and tomato frittata

Snack - cashew nut butter on oatcakes with a few thin banana slices

Tea - halloumi tabbouleh salad.

Lots of tea and a couple of coffees....

HardRockOwl · 05/04/2022 22:23

Ooh that sounds like a delicious food diary @indiesearcher

I think soup would be absolutely fine - it's just avoiding tins of Heinz I should think - their tomato soup for example is very sugary I believe

I'm doing badly on the steps too. Actually, I'm not even trying! I do my swim every day and aim for a 500 + calorie burn and that'll do me. I considered a walk today but couldn't be bothered. There is zero chance of me at attempting any exercises in the books!

Oh no! My kids flipping love Heinz tomato soup 🙈

HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 09:22

Morning all,

How is everyone? I'm about to eat breakfast which is a vanilla bircher with chia seeds and mango. Not sure on the rest of the day yet - going to leaf through the cookbook to get some inspiration.

One thing about me on a 'diet' is that I'll tend to stick to the same foods over and over again until I'm sick of them so I'm trying to not fall into that rut here.

Funny how I never get bored of chocolate though eh

Louise Parker method anyone? I know it's a bit old fashioned now ..

Morning morning, everyone! This is officially Day 1 for me.

Despite not having the books (the 6 week programme is due in the post at some point this morning) I went on a frantic late night shop last night and grabbed things I thought would be suitable, and prepped overnight oats (actually from your post, @HardRockOwl - the one with juice from an orange and chia seeds.)

I’m just having breakfast now and amazed at how large the portion is. I’m glad because I’m feeling under the weather today and it’s nice to have something refreshing and different for breakfast.

I think my mid morning snack will be rye bread with thin banana slices.

Not sure about lunch and dinner and the afternoon snack, but I’ll re-read this thread - I know I have all the ingredients needed to whip something together.

I feel too embarrassed to share my starting weight but I’ve logged it.

Hope everyone else is doing well and on plan this morning!

HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 09:29

@NatriumChloride yay for day 1! Let us know tonight if you've felt any hunger - if you've read back, you'll see I'm err somewhat of a carb junkie . I'm capable of basically not eating meals but instead grazing on entire cakes throughout the day. I can honestly say I've felt little in the way of hunger and next to no cravings at all. I've felt peckish for meals but that's normal, and the portions are spot on for me.

No need to share your weight either if you don't want to. I had two stone to lose and probably more if I really want to go for a smallish size!

Just shot if you need any meal inspiration and fingers crossed book arrives asap

EssexLioness · 06/04/2022 09:36

Thanks @HardRockOwl, making my own muesli is a good idea. I always tend to stick to the same foods too. I do eventually get fed up of it but mostly I enjoy it because I don’t have to think too much about what to eat. I like anything that takes away the decision making process.
Had a banana for breakfast. Lunch will be protein oat smoothie. Dinner: veg and tofu stir fry, with swede noodles (not tried those before). Snacks: hummus and cucumber sticks, soya yoghurt with blueberries and pecans

ElvenDreamer · 06/04/2022 10:05

Morning all, had a better day yesterday, made a point of 'paying my daily rent' as LP says, in the form of a short exercise app, and feeling back on it. Had egg and rocket on wholegrain for breakfast and main meal today will be chicken and chorizo with chickpeas and tomatoes. There's a portion of mackerel salad already from a couple of days ago and a smoothie in the fridge so I'm feeling fairly calm and organised. Lots of bits of work etc to do today so will probably try and squeeze in another short app based work out.

Pumpkin2901 · 06/04/2022 11:17

Hello everyone Smile
I've been reading these messages over the last couple of days and really like the sound of this way of eating.
I don't have much to lose but have a terrible relationship with food and a restrict and binge pattern.
I'm fed up of calorie counting. I just want to eat nourishing food and be healthy and happy.
I'm also vegetarian, so like the sound of a lot of the meals and snacks mentioned!
I haven't read the books, just going to try sensible eating with unprocessed foods and see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
Feeling excited! Grin

HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 13:29

@Pumpkin2901 try and get yourself a book as it's quite interesting to read and it's definitely more structured than just trying to eat fresher foods. Although you may be an intuitive eater ... I'm definitely not so need to actually follow something! Welcome to the thread!

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 13:31

@ElvenDreamer sounds like you're in control! Planning definitely helps.

I've had my bircher this morning and a snack of 4 oatcakes with cashew nut butter and a small banana sliced in.

I must plan lunch and dinner now! Second snack will be a smoothie

Had a sneaky weigh in because I've done exactly one week on plan now ... 9 pounds down.

So something is working

OP posts:
EssexLioness · 06/04/2022 13:47

@ElvenDreamer glad you had a better day yesterday.

Hi @Pumpkin2901, it’s only my second day but so far enjoying it. I would recommend the book too, or at least the Lean for Life app, as that has most of the main info on it too and is free.

I feel like I am eating lots all the time as I am not used to eating two snacks a day as well as my meals. I don’t need or particularly want my morning snacks so far but happily eat them later in the day.

EssexLioness · 06/04/2022 13:50

@HardRockOwl 9lbs is incredible! Well done! I am a really slow loser so 1-2lbs per week would be great for me.
Out of curiousity, I worked out the calories in yesterdays and todays food: 1200 cals for yesterday and today should be about 1000.

HardRockOwl · 06/04/2022 14:21

@EssexLioness I bet you're not a slow loser at all. This may surprise you if you stick to it. I don't normally drop 9 lbs in a week, not even when trying to stick to 1200 calories a day.

So I think it's because the food isn't carb heavy maybe?

OP posts:
EssexLioness · 06/04/2022 16:04

I think I would collapse in shock if I lost 9lbs in one week! 😆 Yes it could be the lack of carbs. Also seems to be quite high in protein which I think helps too. I’ve been on 1200 cals before, eating healthily but been much hungrier than I am so far on this plan so that’s really good
