Nah its a fact of life. You do weigh more in the evening with clothes on than naked in the morning. And why is it always half a stone?

fedda · 03/01/2008 23:37

try to weigh yourself tomorrow in the morning without your clothes and shoes and you might be pleasantly surprised. P.S. I like your eating plan.

discoverlife · 03/01/2008 23:38

Decided that tomorrow is the big pan of veg soup day. I make a big pan of fat free veg soup and keep it in the fridge. I then have a bowl for lunch, any snacking, and as a starter for dinner. I can sometimes make it last 3 days.It really does help.

MuthaHubbard · 03/01/2008 23:42

ooh, that reminds me discover, must add carrot and parsnips to my shopping list, makes lurvely soup.

fedda · 03/01/2008 23:42

Yes, it's good stuff, helped me a lot but unfortunately i was overdoing it and endedup getting up in the night 4 or 5 times just like when i was pregnant.

susiecutiemincepies · 04/01/2008 00:52

I have just remembered we bought a load of veggies, pre chopped, ( lazy I know) to put into a chicken casserole. Never got round to making it, so I think i'll make them into a soup in the morning. maybe add a few lentils too. No added fat or anything, will be really tasty!

thats really cheered me up actually, thanks discoverlife and fedda and muthahubbard you helped me out there!

Even Isobel might eat it... she wont eat anything at the moment unless she can hold it and feed herself. Its incredible frustrating. I'm hoping this is a short phase, as I keep making her lovely things to eat, and she refuses, point blank. then i end up finishing them up , AND eating my own. Bad bad move that is... must get back into the habit of squirting washing up liquid on hers as soon as she's finished. Its the only way

Right, MUST go to sleep. not coughed for about half an hour, so will grab the chance to sleep.

sleep well all, and make sure you start the day wit a good breakfast.

naturopath · 04/01/2008 11:01

ok, so I haven't posted for a couple of days, but basically, I have been eating pretty healthily, eg.:

Breakfast - bowl of Cherrios and rice milk
Lunch- tuna sandwich on granary bread (no mayo)
snack: chocolate (yes, there's the downfall)
Supper: salad, pita, or spaghtti with tomatoes, or veg stir fry..

My problems are:
(1) snacking on chocolate, cake etc. - I don't eat a huge amount, but I have to have it every day

(2) haven't excersised really since I got pregnant about 15 months ago (used to go to the gym about 3-4 times a week before then)

(3) finding the time to do the shopping, cooking, cleaning up, excercising etc. with a 6-month oldd baby

(4) breastfeeding, together with being at home a lot of the time, makes me hungry! (or just snack to get energy when tired)..

(5) was embarrased to post my weight as it isn't too bad really (a little under 10 stone) - but I've always weighed 9, so I really need to lose a stone, and I don't know how!

laloup · 04/01/2008 11:10

Hi all
It's sooooo cold here I'm having real difficulty starting into the dieting (excuses, excuses...I know). Currently stuck at home as snow is a foot deep and we live at the top of a steep hill. Was going to start food diary'ing from this morning but have just had a piece of Christmas cake with a cup of tea. Think I'll leave it until Monday when lo's back to school to start the diet proper. thinking of rejoining a slimming class too for extra motivation. Well done everyone who's keeping up the efforts.

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 11:14

Hiya Naturopath. Try some of the suggestions on here for snacking. As you are breastfeeding as well, are you sure that some of your hunger pangs/ nibble desires arn't thirst? In some people thirst signals are very similar to hunger pangs. Try being severe with yourself for a couple of days and everytime you feel like a nibble glug back a glass of water, if 10 minutes after the water you still feel peckish have a nibble of something healthy.

naturopath · 04/01/2008 11:14

wow, laloup - surely you can go sledding or something, and then run all the way up the hill again?

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 11:16

I have had a thought.
How many of you lot are like me, in that you have all the theory but non of the will power? Go on stick your hand up you multiple attenders of weight watchers and slimming world.

naturopath · 04/01/2008 11:18

Discoverlife - that is a very good idea. You're right - I do get a bit dehydrated sometimes - I really must drink more.

In fact, I think that's what I used to do at work - had a big bottle of water on my desk that I would glug every time I was hungry (obv ate food as well sometimes ), and when I craved chocolate I got a (somewhat horrible but did the trick) hot chocolate from the free drinks machine on our floor.
(can't do that any more as have been dairy and soya-free for months now - for ds's sake).

naturopath · 04/01/2008 11:19

but feeling semi-virtuous now as am drinking the white tea I bought a few days ago. Have been having about 2 cups a day so should be antioxidising or something..

laloup · 04/01/2008 11:31

Ah yes, definitely have all the theory, could drone on for hours about how to lose some lbs, but unless I'm feeling 'in the zone' the thought of putting it into practice can send me running to the biscuit tin....

More snow predicted here then rain so going to take the dcs out again for a walk before the slush sets in.

SugarSkyHigh · 04/01/2008 12:24

So far today:
cup of coffee x 2
food doctor seedy bagel thing with butter (oops)
a few glasses of water.

Trouble is, come 3 pm I'll be craving wadges of Christmas cake, even after a sensible lunch at around 1.00....

fubsy are the other 2 thirds of that bar still untouched?
discoverlife- i am going to buy coleslaw today!

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 12:29

8Sugarskyhigh* I dont think you can buy un-mayo'd coleslaw. I always make it up fresh, only takes 5 minutes. Thinly sliced cabbage, peeled and grated carrots, and a little bit of finely sliced onion. Its also a lot, lot cheaper.

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 12:31

Sorry should have been Sugarskyhigh its so dark and miserable here having trouble seeing the letters on the keyboard. I hate having to put the light on during the day.

MrsFish · 04/01/2008 12:36

susiecutie - what a top idea about the washing up liquid in lo's leftovers I will be using that trick, thanks

susiecutiemincepies · 04/01/2008 12:37

Morning ladys!

Still feeling crappy with this cough, so not eaten anything yet today. Have just had a cup of tea. Isobel is having fish fingers and carrot chips, half of them are on the floor how do I get her to stop doing this? its driving me mad!

So, this evening I am going to cook a soup with the veg I have in the fridge. DO you think I need to pre cook the lentils, or can i get away with just adding a handful at the start?

Jahan · 04/01/2008 13:38

Hello everyone.
Not bad today;
cereal, yoghurt,coffee
roll, cottage cheese, salad, banana, nuts.
We have lamb casserole with mash this eve (I love my slow cooker!). The mash won't have any butter in it.

Soup is an excellent idea. I have been making a lot of butternut squash soups lately.
I always throw ds1's leftovers straight into the bin so I don't eat them. I do it automatically now and it never occurs to me to eat it.
Susie - how old is Isobel? I remember when ds went through a phase of eating like that. I use to make him things like tuna and veg potato cakes and penne pasta with a blended veg sauce and cheese.

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 13:45

Does anybody remember the dulux advert where there was kid with pea and ham soup all over the walls. Well that could have been my kids, all of them. I invested in a very large piece of dining table PVC and spread it under and behind the horrors high chair and just moved the high chair when they had finished, folded the PVC and funneled the bits into the bin. Then a quick wipe. It saved me having to replace the carpets.
I got it from here, they do mail order and have a sale on now. www.abakhanfabrics.co.uk/

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 14:01

Well Ive found the words to the advert, but I can't find the actual video YET.

May the gloss in Ross be a good gloss,
May the windowsills of Winchester shine,
May the doors of Wales
Dry as hard as nails,
Ceilings cover well
In Motherwell,
The walls of Birmingham
Wipe clean of pea and ham,

And the skirting boards of Fife
Have a long life,
So brush in hand
Decorate this land
With the best paint!

Dulux ? there?s no better paint.

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 14:03

Arrgghhh! Why didn't it go bold.

discoverlife · 04/01/2008 14:22

Bloody Useless Rayburn. Ive been waiting for this soup now for 1 1/2 hours and I'm starving. Its just not getting up to heat.

SugarSkyHigh · 04/01/2008 14:49

You've still not turned the lights on then!
actually I quite fancy one of those daylight imitation bulbs, I have a feeling it will make me feel less sluggish...
Have now bought cabbage, carrot and onion for DIY coleslaw... watch this space!!
