My name is Fhee and I am a sugar addict. It has been approximately 13 hours since I ate a nutritionally void sweet treat. I am going cold turkey on:
Biscuits
Cake
Chocolate

I am not going low carb, but also out are any non-sweet treats that have the same impact on blood sugar, i.e. crisps.

I will not be cutting out fresh fruit. That’s just silly.

Anyone one else need some accountability?

Sneaking in to placemark.

CommanderBurnham · 29/12/2021 00:38

I so need this. Interesting about the yeast overgrowth. I'm going to lurk for a while as I am about to start 16:8 so I'll get settled in with that first then work on the sugar. Although hopefully I will be reducing refined sugars as part of 16:8.

Good luck everyone.

Fhee · 29/12/2021 06:23

Having looked into it a bit I don’t think I buy the yeast overgrowth/sugar cravings thing. Maybe worth paying attention to if you have other gastro symptoms.

Looking forward to having my New Year sugar-free buddies 🙂

Great! I'm also a sugar addict. Going through some long term challenging personal times and (emotional) eating has been getting me through. If I drank alcohol instead of eating sugar and overeating other carbs, I'd be drunk almost all the time.

I've been reducing it the past few days but am aware of a chocolate fondant waiting for my new year's dinner! So I'm not cutting out yet, but that's the plan next week.

Will be following along until then!

scandikate · 29/12/2021 07:12

Ooh I'll join! I'm so addicted to sugar. I went cold turkey a while ago and felt really good after a few weeks but it didn't last for long.. I'm a healthy weight but my clothes definitely fit tighter than pre pandemic so losing a little wouldn't harm me. I'm going to start on Saturday as have a friend's dinner party on Friday.

Also - all other food tastes better when your tastebuds have a break from continuous blasting with sugar.

I’m going to follow along and hopefully take inspiration from the rest of you. We have tonnes of sugary treats in the house as it’s all I seem to be gifted for my birthday and Christmas. I hadn’t made a dent in my birthday stuff and I can’t face wasting anything. I thought I’d got rid of most of the bits that had a short date on but then friends came over last night and brought mince pies and meringues. I begged them to take them away but they didn’t. So I’m going to try to be good most of the time but allow a small sugar treat 3x per week to try to use it up. I hope I can stick to that.

I did sugar/carb free January last year and felt amazing, so for those doing it properly I think you will be really happy with how you feel very soon. Also the cravings disappear quite quickly if you stay strong. I didn’t eat fruit either though so not sure if that will make it harder to lose the craving.

Good luck everyone.

Fhee · 29/12/2021 08:26

@Lionnose I’d say don’t be scared of throwing away unwanted sugary stuff. As long as you are not repeatedly buying it and then throwing it away it is not wasteful. It won’t do your body any good to eat it, and if the alternative is throwing it in the bin then you are just using your body as a bin.

Thank goodness I joined this thread yesterday.

I just weighed myself and I am 11st 12.75. I am shocked to be honest 😂

I didn't even get to 11stone when pregnant.

There is no sweet food in the house and I feel ready to tackle this.

Fhee · 29/12/2021 08:41

I’m a similar weight @Cherchez. About six years ago passing 11st was my trigger to lose weight, but I’ve sailed past it this time. Time to go again. We can do it!

I'm in! I went alcohol free this time last year and feel much better for it, but I need to cut out the sugary crap now. We can do this!

Laufeythejust · 29/12/2021 08:46

I did the keto diet for 2 weeks. I don’t think it’s a healthy way to live long term but I do think that was the thing that made me stick to a calorie controlled diet afterwards and the reason I lost all my weight. I don’t restrict my carbs/ sugar now at all but I’m more aware of the hold it can have on me.

whyarentiskinnyet · 29/12/2021 08:56

I'd like to join please! I am heaviest I've ever been, today I weighed at 13.11!!!!! I feel
awful and can't seem to stop myself.
Habits need to change, I started eating healthier earlier in the year and the pounds started dropping but I didn't maintain.
I want to do this by eating 3 sensible and healthy meals and cutting snacks.
I'm starting today as I don't want to put it off any longer.
I'm going to start writing everything down and looking at where I need to make changes
I want to lose 3 stone to feel good about myself
Good luck everyone.

Hotyogahotchoc · 29/12/2021 08:57

I need to do this too but have too many Christmas chocs to eat first Grin

Lionnose · 29/12/2021 09:02

@Fhee thanks, you are probably right!

Cocolapew · 29/12/2021 09:21

I'm too scared to weigh myself Blush
I do agree with with the sugar thrush/ gastro problems. I always get thrush when I've overdone the sugar, I also get itchy skin and sinus problems.
I didn't buy any chocolate stuff for Christmas but ended up with loads as gifts.
I'm stopping today, I'm puffy, my heads sore and my joints ache.
I'm going to not eat bread or sweet stuff but not low carbing, I did that last year and felt awful.
I really like Ryvita dark rye so will eat that and I'm not stopping any fruit either. I need orange juice in the morning and love grapes.
Good luck everyone!

Cherchez · 29/12/2021 09:53

@Cocolapew I had to mentally prepare all of yesterday to get me on the scales today 😂

I had a little cry in the shower but it is what it is. All my own doing, I've been a greedy fucker. I never usually cry, I don't even recognise myself looking this bloated and chubby. Even my feet look fat.

My plan was to start 2nd January but I am not putting it off and have started today.

Cocolapew · 29/12/2021 10:03

I did get on them after writing that post but the battery is dead. I think thats a sign Grin
I'm not being to harsh on myself, I've had an awful few months. My Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in May and I ended up doing absolutely everything for him, my mum just couldn't cope. He died in October and I've been struggling with grief but unfortunately I comfort eat so need to stop and pull myself together.

Cherchez · 29/12/2021 10:05

@Cocolapew I am so sorry to hear about your Dad 💐

DirtyDancing · 29/12/2021 10:10

I am in. Since lockdown I have become a sugar addict. I was always fairy good with sugar up until then. But lockdown has made me so tired, so lethargic I have been using it as a crutch. But I know exercise is miles better for me & makes me feel better. It will catch up with me soon as I'm in my 40s... The weight will pile on.. diabetes will knock on the door.

Jelly sweets & Chocolate be gone. I no longer want you in my life (even tho you taste so good)

Cocolapew · 29/12/2021 10:11

Thank you @Cherchez

LadyEloise1 · 29/12/2021 11:49

I read this thread this morning. I really need to quit sugar. My teeth and weight are suffering.
What do I do ?
Have a chocolate croissant with my coffee in a local cafe.
I am the Queen of Self Sabotage. Sad
