Did you get it on the NHS VsgKitt or did you have to pay for it?

VsgKitt · 08/08/2021 18:12

I was referred on NHS in March to the weight management services (precursor to sleeve) but still not even heard anything from them now. I was told wait could be years so I had it done abroad.

My BMI was 40+ so eligible but I felt like I'd wasted enough time already being this way.

No experience but wishing you luck.

I'm sure you'll see a decent loss at your first weigh in after two weeks on a liquid diet.

doudouchouchou · 08/08/2021 18:22

Was it expensive? How painful was the surgery?

feellikezerobucks · 08/08/2021 18:24

@VsgKitt how are you feeling? I have a consultation tomorrow but keep wavering between doing it (and the impact it will have on me forever) or not having it (and the impact that will have on me forever)...🤷🏻‍♀️ I need to lose 5st, so not masses but enough to be a real struggle!

MuffinMcMuff · 08/08/2021 18:24

I had the op on 29th May with Streamline and I’m 3st 10lb down. There is a bariatric surgery thread running with lots of people who’ve had sleeves and bypass operations too if you wanted to look for that 😊

VsgKitt · 08/08/2021 18:26

My op was £2500 (vs about 11k in UK!)
Plus flights and other extra costs due to covid.

The nurses were amazing with pain management and I was up walking around 2 hours after the op.

It felt rough for a few days. Felt very 'pulled' inside. Was hard to get out of bed etc

But I also had my gallbladder out so may have been worse for me than standard sleeve.

Feel great now.

I had a Gastric Sleeve just over 3 years ago - best thing I ever did. My BMI was 42.4 and today its under 25 and in the healthy range. The weight fell off me and I had reached my goal weight in under 6 months. Am able to eat almost anything but just much smaller portions. Huge good luck x

feellikezerobucks · 08/08/2021 19:10

@CliftonGreenYork how is your life day to day? Does your stomach feel different inside?
Your weight loss is fantastic...have you experienced any loose skin?

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 08/08/2021 19:18

Had mine done at the end of 2019. Lost 15 stone in total and still have 6/7 stone to go. Hard work, but life changing and the best money I ever spent on myself. Went privately in the UK.

Life is great as so healthy now and have lots of energy. Stomach feels no different but I rarely feel hungry and get full very quickly. No loose skin apart from a little in inner thighs.

VsgKitt · 08/08/2021 23:06

I'm definitely going to have lose skin but I don't care.

Can I ask where you went to have it done?

VsgKitt · 09/08/2021 06:32

I had mine in Czech republic with firm called New Leaf.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/08/2021 06:49

I'm 11 months out since my sleeve and I've lost 3 stone.

I've basically proved what I've been saying for 20 years - that I didn't eat much and still put on weight. For 2 years before my sleeve I ate 1500 calories a day.

Now I eat 800-1100 every day. So I'm losing weight very slightly quicker than I did before the sleeve.

The biggest difference for me is not the weight loss but the fact I'm NEVER HUNGRY now - I was literally starving before the sleeve, every moment of every day on 1500 calories. I would cry with hunger and frustration every day.

I expect in one further years time I will be under 25 Bmi. (It's currently 32 - was 42 at my highest)

TheQueef · 09/08/2021 06:52

Is today the last day of liquid Kitt?
What are you planning for first food?
How's the pain?

AwFeebs · 09/08/2021 10:47

Exicitng OP!

I had my sleeve in April this year and I've just got my 4st award today.

Best thing I've ever done.

There's a long bariatric surgery thread on here if you want to take a look. Smile

No Wednesday is my first day of puree (I'm not home till Wednesday) I think I'm going to have mashed carrots and cod. Or a thick carrot and coriander soup.

I'm not in pain anymore. Apart from my back because of these beds. Slightly tender at the incision points but inside am completely fine now.

It honestly improves so much each day. I had the op on the Wednesday and flew home Saturday and was fine.

Watching!

MeredithMae · 09/08/2021 13:57

I'm desperate for a sleeve but too terrified of having a life of being sick to go through with it. (3 people I know have had it and 1 is sick all the time- I have emetophobia). Following your thread to see how you get on OP, so pleased you had a great experience abroad.

VsgKitt · 09/08/2021 14:28

I've not been sick once yet. On liquids anyhow. I've had thick yogurt.

This is my difference so far, just before my op and 12 days on.

I've had a gastric sleeve!
