Sorry here

I'll just add link cause it's saying the photos are too small

I had my sleeve last week; still on the very boring fluid-only diet.

princesspenny · 09/08/2021 14:34

I'm 5 years post R-n-Y bypass OP, best thing I ever did! The first year was pretty awful though, I had bouts of awful regret and low moods but it passed.

Hope your recovery goes well!

My best friend is planning on having sleeve surgery.
How can I best support her? (we don't live close by)
What helped or didn't help from friends and family?
I don't want to be insensitive.

@VsgKitt I'm not known for my tact but I wasn't planning on that! Grin

She asked my opinion and I said I totally supported her decision.

Saggybaggyaggy · 09/08/2021 14:53

Good luck op! I'm two years post surgery and it's the best thing I've ever done! I've lost almost 11 stone and now weigh 10 and a half stone.

GraceMelbury · 09/08/2021 14:56

Well done OP! I had a sleeve last October (privately in UK) and it has been great. I've lost 9.5 stone and almost at target.
I haven't been sick at all, and can now eat most things, apart from bread, but in much smaller quantities.

doudouchouchou · 09/08/2021 17:08

You are really inspiring me. I am not sure where to start but I have 7 stone to lose. Might start looking at prices

FlorallyBankrupt · 09/08/2021 18:29

I always lurk but never comment on these threads. Congratulations OP, on your bravery and your weight loss!

I have 5 stone to lose - BMI of 39 - and I could stretch to £2.5k in Turkey. Would I though? I am also emetophobic and very anxious not to give myself a life of feeling nauseous - and DH is concerned that it doesn't actually address the emotional issues I have around compulsive overeating.

I don't really mind eating less of everything, it's what I should be doing anyway, but losing sugary food as a crutch is an interesting debate I think. Do you find something else?

VsgKitt · 09/08/2021 19:17

I think you kind of have to address the issue with the sleeve. You can't overeat. It's painful and makes you vomit. So it's a forcing hand. Which I need.

If any other diet worked I wouldn't be here but they haven't, and I am.

I'm only 12 days in but feeling pretty positive.

There is some debate about people who've had this surgery turning to something else, for example alcohol. I was never hugely into sugary food but now I have no craving for it and often it makes me feel sick so I don't crave it . I would question whether your compulsive overeating is though an emotional thing or the product of a western processed food diet. I went into it determined to eat well following the surgery and am largely succeeding though not always. But the vast majority of the time. If I can only fit a limited amount of food in I tend to prioritise nutritious food.
VsgKitt · 10/08/2021 00:20

I don't drink at all. I don't smoke. I don't know what I may turn to.

I do enjoy the gym but wouldn't go fat after several bad experiences.

Wow OP, you already look so different, you must be thrilled!

VsgKitt · 10/08/2021 13:20

I can see the difference on the photo and I feel less bloated but I'm still very overweight and it's early days so not really registering it yet

OP posts:
BruceAndNosh · 10/08/2021 14:55

You look good OP.
It's not just weight loss, you've changed shape as well as being smaller.

When are you having surgery to sort out the bright green hippo head you seem to be sporting? Grin

VsgKitt · 10/08/2021 15:13
Grin Thanks

FlorallyBankrupt · 10/08/2021 19:16

That's a new one on me @Saggybaggyaggy...I've always assumed that I must be a compulsive overeater for emotional reasons because why else would I do it. But my habits only partly fit the pattern - I often wonder if I do it because I like it, it makes me temporarily happy and it's freely available. That makes far more sense, and the more I eat the processed sugar and carbs the more I want it and the more I feel rough without it.

I've "broken" the habit several times and have lost 3 stone + on three occasions, but it always comes back. Caught sight of my reflection today, that was grim, so I ate chocolate.

Sorry, not meaning to hijack OP - just venting! I'm 49 and menopausal, I reckon my only hope is to cut carbs. The thing I live for.

feellikezerobucks · 10/08/2021 19:47

Can I ask what people's scars are like...have they faded nicely?

Saggybaggyaggy · 10/08/2021 19:52

@florallyblanket keep the carbs but cut the processed ones? So eat potatoes with butter but skip the ultra processed bread. Try reading Why We Eat Too Much. There are threads on Mumsnet about it. I've been reading a lot about ultra processed food recently and am convinced it's not food at all - it's utterly crap. Our bodies are not designed to consume it and barely recognises it as food so it doesn't satisfy our natural hungry because it isn't nutritious. When we eat it our body burns fewer calories than if we were to eat the same calories/fat/carbs but from natural foods. I'm utterly convinced by the recent research and am avoiding processed food where possible. Also read labels. If there's something on there you wouldn't expect to find in a kitchen you probably shouldn't be eating it. In fact most things with labels are bad, especially anything with a health claim written on it!

MindBodyChocolate · 11/08/2021 20:01

Congratulations @VsgKitt - I had my sleeve privately in the uk in November last year and has been hands down the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I’ve lost nearly 6 stone and my target is a 7 stone loss which I’m feeling very confident about.

I can eat literally anything and have never been sick. My diet is really healthy - loads of protein, veg and salad with nearly no sugar. I feel amazing and - if I say so myself - look bloody amazing too 🤣🤣

Best of luck with your journey.

VsgKitt · 12/08/2021 19:38

1 stone 4lbs off since July 28th
