I don’t really want to do any kind of eating pattern that isn’t sustainable

I need to get my gut back to good health and I need to treat it well (I have IBS which can get out of control!).
If I don’t eat, I get terrible acid, headache and shaky
If then I eat too much I can get bad stomach cramps
I sometimes don’t know what triggers my flare ups so I try to follow FODMAP - I need to eat less sugars overall, bread isn’t a complex carb so I don’t need it but I eat a small amount of it sometimes
Same with dairy, I have low calcium I need to consume some of it, I don’t want to just rely on supplements

Lottieskeeper · 02/07/2021 15:22

I think I could almost say I do fast. I don't usually have breakfast so my meals are between 12 and 8. But I do have a little soya milk in drinks outside of that window so it's not an actual fast it's just when I like to eat.

I tried low carb/ keto and lost 2 stone in around 3 months but I couldn't stick to it and as soon as I reintroduced carbs the weight pilled on and then some.

I find just basic calorie counting the most flexible and therefore sustainable.
I have been fat all my life and I know a frightening amount about nutrition, fasting and what I should be eating and when but that doesn't make me loose weight.
Eating less does.

If I want a raspberry jam doughnut. I can have 1 just as long as my whole day comes under 1375 calories. That's my new plan and it actually seams to be working. My newish trousers now need a belt or there slipping downGrin

WhoUsedMyName · 02/07/2021 16:26

Well I'm the worst for not eating breakfast & when I'm at work not eating then getting home and eating the contents of the house & a small child so doesn't really work for me and I also thought breakfast is the most important meal of the day? I'm always told if I ate breakfast everyday I could speed up my metabolism but I don't

@WhoUsedMyName what works for one person dosent always work for the next.
I just think of it as a good way of having more calories for later in the day.

Usually my dinner comes in around 800 to 1000 calories so I would have to really cut that back if I have breakfast too. And diner is my favourite meal.

Menora · 02/07/2021 16:39

If you find that you will binge eat I don’t think fasting will suit you. I would say it’s better to eat something even it’s it’s 200cals across the morning before lunch?
I think breakfast doesn’t have to look like a meal, I make my own baked oat cakes and eat them with a banana - no mess of needing plates/bowls and measuring anything as I already made them

Menora · 02/07/2021 16:39

I think preparation is also really important. If you don’t have the right food indoors or take it to work with you, it’s going to be harder

Jellyfishnchips · 02/07/2021 16:50

Hi, can I please place hold for now and join you in a couple months? Just about to have a baby so can’t diet straight away but desperate to lose afterwards (weight piled on in lockdown + pregnancy, 5’3 in size 22 maternity leggings) x

WhoUsedMyName · 02/07/2021 17:03

Of course @Jellyfishnchips that's exciting! A boy? A girl? A baby? Lol

Drum roll please.... basically used almost all my calories today on what?
Carbs I hear you say!
Yes carbs!!!! I can't stop

OP posts:
Lottieskeeper · 02/07/2021 17:46

It's always the carbs that get me too!

Lottieskeeper · 02/07/2021 18:45

Calories are 1311 today including a snack for this evening of a satsuma.
Pretty good considering I had lunch out.
In the end we went to wetherspoons for lunch and I had a sirloin steak with quinoa salad and it was delicious.

I am on 1400 calories today but have some gin and low cal tonic… 😂

Lottieskeeper · 03/07/2021 16:25

What's everybody planning for tea?

I'm having beef tacos using a kit from aldi, going to have loads of lettuce with it and try to forget about the side carbs that usually go alongside.
Going to come in at 802 calories for the meal. I've already weighed all the ingredients.

I'm having rhubarb stewed with ginger, cinnamon and candarel and a large Hendrix's gin and sugar free lemonade evening for a low calorie treat.

My calories will come in at 1301 today. So I could be tempted by an oreo biscuit later without it being a massive disaster. Hard to stop at 1 though. Hmm

WhoUsedMyName · 04/07/2021 13:10

So yesterday didn't go very well I ate crap food & drank crap drinks football was on! Bad excuse. Some how have managed to lose weight tho. So I need to be really good now

@WhoUsedMyName everyone does it occasionally. Try not to let a bad day turn into a bad week.
Well done on the loss though.

Jessica60 · 04/07/2021 13:32

Yes, six stone here too
When are you planning to have lost it by?

katscamel · 04/07/2021 15:02

I'm on the I'll start again tomorrow plan after a food filled weekend... have an ASDA delivery on its way....unfortunately without the red cabbage and oats I ordered....how annoying. I will at least try and do better this week...have to walk part the way to work as my colleague who gives me a lift is on leave (how selfish lol).

Jellyfishnchips · 04/07/2021 18:36

Hi, thanks am looking forward to losing the initial baby bump weight at least! ( big bump) expecting a girl 🙂

WhoUsedMyName · 04/07/2021 19:11

@katscamel that's me too! This is going to be our week! Very selfish although doing you a favour so that back fired on her! Lol
Yes true @Lottieskeeper & thank you

@Jessica60 February 🤦🏼‍♀️

katscamel · 04/07/2021 19:15

@WhoUsedMyName.... made up my healthy lunch for work tomorrow...lentil pasta and roasted veg and will take a lemon cheesecake protein yogurt... never had one before so hoping it meets expectations.
Yay for Monday and a new week... good luck all Smile

Lottieskeeper · 04/07/2021 19:30

@katscamel is that a Kvarg yogurt? I love them. Can't work out how they can be so low sugar and fat but still yummy. Quite often have one for lunch. All that protein fills you up for a while. I have a big tub of skyr to try this week. Honey flavoured so hopefully it's nice.

@Jessica60 I would be really pleased to have lost it by my birthday at the end of April. But realistically its taken me 39 years to put it on so its going to take a long while.

Calories come in at 1294 today. Including a small mint aero bar planned for this evening.

Menora · 04/07/2021 19:42

I did over 15,000 steps today, I am bloody knackered 😂

Weekend didn’t get me too badly but I have treated myself to a little Prosecco
