6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Oh that's brilliant @stanleyoscar
And you're so right about concentrating on what's here and now rather than down the road.

73kittycat73 · 22/06/2021 19:08

That's a really good idea DancingCoyote! Makes it seem more manageable. I like the single figure, 7lb etc. Thanks for sharing. :)
Good luck for tomorrow then picklemewalnuts! Star

73kittycat73 · 22/06/2021 19:12

Hi StanleyOscar, sounds like you are doing very, very well! Good luck for tomorrow, though doesn't sound like you need it! Star
I tried starting C25K a few months ago. I couldn't even do all eight runs! I got to seven. So well done you for all your running and keeping with it. [star}
I have a community centre at the end of the road and can manage to get there. I do yoga on a Monday and Wednesday there. On days I don't do yoga I do a ten minute abs workout, 10 minutes HIIT and some weights on the arms.

picklemewalnuts · 23/06/2021 10:47

Weigh day today! 2lb down which I'm very happy with under the circs. 1lb off my 4 stone 7lb award.

I just need to navigate a week at Mum's, and a week away. I just need to keep my head and remember what I'm doing and why.

Also, if I have something nice, to enjoy every last mouthful! I don't begrudge the good things I enjoy, I do begrudge the things I stuff in my mouth out of obligation, stress, etc.

picklemewalnuts · 23/06/2021 10:47

What time is your group, Stanley?

StanleyOscar · 23/06/2021 11:03

@picklemewalnuts Well done! 2lb is great!!

Just come back from my 9:30am SW weigh in, and 5lb down! Total of 18lbs since 26th May.

So, I received the 1 stone Award, Slimmer of the Week Award, and the 2lb raffle, 3 awards in one day. When I stood on the scales this morning, it said 17st exactly, and so fingers crossed I will get the 16st 13lbs any day.

All good, how is everyone else getting on?

Well done picklemewalnuts! 2lb is excellent! It's hard trying to fit things in diet wise isn't it? As part of my agoraphobia treatment I have to walk to the chippy and buy something. I haven't had chippy chips for years, and I love them. But I don't want to 'waste' calories and carbs on eating them! I hope you manage OK, and good luck for that 1lb!
Wow, 5lbs is great StanleyOscar ! Well done. Congrats on all the awards!
I did a 15:9 instead of a 16:8 by accident. In stead of drinking plain water I forgot and drank flavoured fizzy water when I got up this morning. I have just looked at the calories though and it's only 4 cals per 250ml. So at most I've drunk 4-8 cals. Still annoyed with myself a bit though. Oh yeah, and taking the 'treat' stuff out the house really worked! I was having a massive, massive craving last night but didn't give in because I couldn't. I really hope I last 'till next Monday as I don't think I've done a 'clean' week yet. I want to see how I feel physically feel, and how much weight I can lose in a week whilst sticking to my plan. (1200-300 cals a day.)

picklemewalnuts · 23/06/2021 13:00

Good for you Kittycat! Re the chip shop, last time we went I had a children's portion. Could you think about the least bad thing they sell? Maybe a potato fritter (or smack as they are called in some areas)?
Or buy a small fish and don't eat the batter. It will be a triumph to get there though, well done.

Gosh Stanley, that's amazing! Your hard work is really paying off! I'm going to aim for bigger losses end of next month. Any Loss would be a victory for me for the next two weeks.

I've done well so far today- lunch was hexAs- smoked cheddar and danish blue, hexb pecans, celery, cucumber, nectarine, and an apple. I feel like I've eaten loads, but it's all within the plan.
Dinner will be yesterday's roast beef cooked in a peppercorn sauce- peppercorns, fat free yogurt, Worcestershire sauce. With jacket potato and broccoli.

That brings me to the evening with all my syns available. I'll probably have fruit yogurt and a meringue nest (2.5syns).

Actually, that was really helpful- I might plan my meals and snacks on here if that's ok with you!

73kittycat73 · 23/06/2021 22:12

Thank you picklemewalnuts. Smile My mum's coming with me and she said she'd eat the chips, and I'd just have a few. Grin
I don't mind about you meal planning, post away! Smile

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2021 07:35

I treated myself to a gadget in the prime day sale. I bought a ninja foodie max, which is an air fryer type thing. I'm currently using it to dehydrate apple slices. They will be like crisps when they are done. I'm taking them in the car, as I find the journeys a bit tedious and tend to boredom eat.

Enjoy your day, everyone! Sensible eating and lots of exercise all round!

StanleyOscar · 24/06/2021 09:17

@73kittycat73 Some good tips there, especially the child size portions.

@picklemewalnuts - Well done getting an air fryer, we've used one for the last year and they are great. Jacket potatoes are the best, pop them in the microwave for 5 mins, then spray them with 1cal, sprinkle a little salt on them, after 10 mins in the air fryer they are crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside!

Well, I'm another 1lb down this morning and so 16st 13lbs! That's now a total of 19lbs loss. To be fair, I skipped breakfast yesterday due to SW weigh in, then just had lunch & evening meal, but no cheats. I didn't manage to do any running, but we did go for a nice walk at lunchtime, washed a car and mowed the lawn (1 acre) in the afternoon plus shopping in the evening, a total of over 8,000 steps. I will take the weight the scales say!

How's everyone else today?

WheresMyTweezers · 24/06/2021 10:05

@StanleyOscar and @picklemewalnuts - well done on your losses.

@73kittycat73 - I can give up most things but I'm like a moth to a flame with chip shops so good luck there! (I'm sure you'll be fine though).

Me - still weighing daily and it's throwing up some bizarre things and I don't think I like it! Will carry on for a couple of weeks and then pick a day of the week to weigh in on.

(Don't want to bore everyone so skip this bit if you want but example:
Sunday 2lb on - fair enough after meal out on Saturday
Monday - no change (pulled back after indulgent weekend)
Tuesday 2lb off - again fair enough
Wednesday 2lb on - for no apparent reason?
Today - 1lb off

So, so far this week I'm 1lb down from Monday which sounds ok, but as Monday was 2lb heavier than Saturday so it's not really a loss. So overall I'm 6lb down in 11 days which is ok, but in terms of weighing daily...well, madness this way lies...)

73kittycat73 · 24/06/2021 11:40

I do love a new gadget picklemewalnuts. Smile I just bought a diamond art kit (To keep my hands busy so I don't overeat!) and some Christmas window stickers in the Prime Day Deals. Only cost me 64p as I had a £10.00 credit. Smile Those apple slices sound nice.
Well done on another lb down StanleyOscar, you're smashing this! Star
Thank you for the luck WheresMyTweezers. Smile You know, I'll probably get there Friday and find it closed! lol I really hope not...

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2021 12:50

Tweezers, remember dehydration and constipation play a role. It's nothing like as straightforward as food in, scales go up! That's not even mentioning your hormone cycle.

It's why we aren't 'supposed' to weigh daily- it fluctuates a lot and it's the trend that matters.

Try drinking plenty of water and eating raw fruit and veg for the fibre.

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2021 12:52

I always cook a few jackets whenever the oven is on, so I'll have one for dinner, reheated in the air fryer. We're having steak, jacket potato, and salad tonight.

I think I'll hasselbach my potato, make it extra crunchy!

picklemewalnuts · 24/06/2021 12:54

Have you heard of Inulin, or resistent starch? Basically, carbohydrates that have cooled and been reheated are less fattening than freshly cooked carbs!
Leftover rice, reheated potatoes etc! I don't always do it, but do take the opportunity when I can. Cook extra one day, to reheat the next.

WheresMyTweezers · 25/06/2021 06:36

Thanks for the advice everyone. Have just jumped on scales (treacherous bastards that they are) and not to be dramatic or anything if I don't see a big loss tomorrow I'm going to mainline some Dairy Milk right into my veins.

picklemewalnuts · 25/06/2021 06:58

Ah don't do that! You'll never know if a bigger loss is just around the corner!

Try changing it up, eat very differently but still healthily- that helps me sometimes.

StanleyOscar · 25/06/2021 08:10

@WheresMyTweezers NOOOOOO! Don't give up, stick with it! I know how it feels to not get the results you want, but every week is different. As many have already said, if the pounds don't come off, do the measurements! I've often found in the weeks that I don't appear to lose any weight, the inches come off around the waist. The body and dieting is a very strange thing, it happens in a very odd way and often all is not as it seems. Often I have stalled for almost a week or so, then suddenly bam! 2-3lbs drop off no problem. It's as if my body needs a few days to steady itself before the next big loss.

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 25/06/2021 08:39

Ah thanks you two. I was only joking, but at last if nothing else it's a lesson - weighing daily is not for me! Going to carry on until I've had my period as that should give me a good idea of what my typical fluctuations are over a month - my theory was that would help my motivation when I start to weigh weekly as I'd know any stalling/slight gains were likely to be temporary and "trusting the process" would see me right but blimey I wasn't expecting to hate it so much! Can definitely see how it would be self-defeating or lead to obsession.

(Not sure how much is TMI but I suspect I might have a bit of water retention as last night's meal was quite salty, and also, I haven't "had a movement" this morning - going to go mad on the fibre today!)

StanleyOscar · 25/06/2021 09:09

@WheresMyTweezers - Well done! I know you are made of tougher stuff, too good to give up and yes, I can now see how you were joking. Grin

TBH, as a male, I think in some respect it is easier dieting as it can be perhaps more consistent? We don't have periods to intervene the process, plus we don't retain water so much and...we are allowed more syns on slimming world. My wife is also on a diet and her weight fluctuates so much day to day, I really do feel sorry for her, it can be quite demoralising.

I did another run last night, still sticking to a healthy diet with no treats. I have also switched to skimmed milk in my tea & coffee, which isn’t really that bad at all. It always takes 48hrs for any effects of doing exercise to show on my weight loss, which follows a distinct pattern:

17st 5lbs - Tuesday 15th June
17st 5lbs
17st 4lbs
17st 3lbs
17st 3lbs
17st 2lbs
17st 1lbs
17st 1lbs
17st 0lbs
16st 13lbs
16st 13lbs - Today

Tomorrow I may well get the 16st 12lbs, then again, I might not. As has been said before, it is a marathon, not a race.

picklemewalnuts · 25/06/2021 11:24

Tweezers, I highly recommend kiwi with the skin still on! I take the hard ends off and chop it up, as I can't bite through the skin. It's great for assisting with fibre!

Men do seem to lose weight quicker, when they are working at it as you are. Women's bodies seem to hold on to it more, somehow.

It's been slightly fraught here at DM's, but I've not caved! I've shopped for some lunches I will be able to eat, and stocked up on fruit.

I'm mid phone swap, which is adding to my stress!

I'll be thinking of you walking to the chippy, Kittycat! Enjoy what you have, and the walk to get it!

StanleyOscar · 25/06/2021 12:34

@picklemewalnuts - Hold out there at DM's, you can do it!!!

73kittycat73 · 25/06/2021 12:45

Good afternoon everyone. Smile Good going on keeping strong WheresMyTweezers. Star Hopefully a loss will show up soon.
Thank you so much picklemewalnuts! That's really kind and sweet of you. Sorry you have some stress, but well done on those lunches! Star
You know what StanleyOscar, even with the name (As a big clue. Wink I never thought you'd be a man! Grin I always just assume, wrongly, that all users on here are women.
I've been trying to do a yoga move we learned on Wednesday, which I'm sure we'll use again, but it's killing me! lol You do a move called Cobra, basically lying on your front, then lifting the chest area up of the floor with your arms straight propping you up. You then lift off your arms and into all fours, or whatever pose is next. It's the lift that gets me! You really need strength in your arms and stomach funnily enough. I keep getting down on the floor to have a go! lol
I'm so glad I got rid of all my temptations as every single night this week I've had major cravings (Night time was always my danger time.). How is everyone else doing?

StanleyOscar · 25/06/2021 18:11

Good afternoon @73kittycat73! Well done on the yoga, my wife goes to yoga classes on Thursday evenings and she says that it does a lot of good for her. She had a serious horse riding accident a few years ago resulting in various injuries and the yoga helps loosen her up.

Well, I was suppose to have a rest day today, but I couldn't stand the fact that I was still 16st 13lbs this morning, I really want that 16st 12lbs! Plus, when I go to SW weigh in next wednesday, I want the 1.5st certificate, the slimmer of the week and the slimmer of the month plus the raffle! Grin

So, I have just done another 2.3km run, should line me up for a weight loss tomorrow...I hope! Smile

How's everyone else been getting on today?
