6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Just checking in!
I'm still here but ridiculously busy with work and life. Keeping mainly on plan and managing to weigh in pretty much daily.

August/early Sept weird for me as I had so much more socialising to do than I thought I had, and I think I dropped only about 3lb on whole of August which I'm taking as a win tbh. Let's see what the rest September brings...

@picklemewalnuts completely agree that you know what works for your body in terms of weight/size. I have been slim but I have never been light - ever! I have broad hips and a large bust and I know when I am around a 14-16 that is the best size for me. For some people that would be horrendous but it works for me. Interestingly in Why We Eat (Too Much) the doc says if you've a large frame, don't worry too much about being in overweight BMI category too much, but if you're a small frame then it's more of an issue. This was incredibly reassuring to me. I remember at medical appointment being asked to stand in the scales again as they must have taken the wrong reading - I explained it was right and I was just really heavy, a lot heavier than I looked (then!).

StanleyOscar · 08/09/2021 08:34

Morning Team!

Another 1lb off this morning, and so down to 15st 1lbs. Two more pounds and I will be under 15stone, it was also nice to see the scales exactly at 96kgs! Grin

Still noticing more changes as I lose weight, like stretch marks on my chin and neck.

Yesterday was a very busy day, cleared up the gardens, built a bonfire, went to Tennis Club, did over 13k steps, totally knackered by bed time.

How's everyone else getting on?

Start: 18st 4lbs
Current: 15st 1lbs
Target: 12st 7lbs
Loss: 45lbs

Well done Stanley! I was a bit despondent, having set myself a big target last week I then found it hard to focus and stay on plan. I felt a bit deprived, and started to crave late evening cereal. However I was actually low syns most days, and everything counted, and I did lose 2.5lbs. I'm half a pound off my 5 and a half stone award, and slimmer of the week!

I'm buying the next six week deal, which comes with a free Christmas planner. At the end of the 6 weeks I'll be approx 84kg and I'm calling that target! I'll switch to maintenance for a year, maybe just till next summer. Then I'll reconsider my target weight, depending how I've got on. I plan to keep going to SW to keep me on track.

So overall, I'm pleased!

StanleyOscar · 08/09/2021 13:43

@picklemewalnuts - Well done, that is a great achievement, 5.5 stone! Can't wait until I get there, but I still have a way to go.

I was looking at monthly weight loss figures to see if my weight loss is slowing up, they are as follows:

May = 10lbs
Jun = 8lbs
Jul = 14lbs
Aug = 9lbs
Sep = 4lbs so far

Interesting figures, not sure they make any sense Confused

So, I could be on target for a stone loss this month?

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 08/09/2021 14:02

Could be- just keep active and keep eating. Don't let lack of appetite stop you fueling your body.

picklemewalnuts · 09/09/2021 13:16

Right. Good start to the day. Feeling very empowered. Long May it last!

I've had homemade healthy hummus and crudités for lunch, with a couple of boiled eggs for extra protein. Chased down by a popcorn bar, for a sweet treat to stave off the frustration of being unable to finish my work day as the work hasn't arrived!!

Beef Rendang for dinner.

I spoke to a dietician yesterday, who was pleased with my general diet, said sweeteners and Diet Coke isn't an issue if it's helping me eat healthily the rest of the time (though it's occurred to me she may not realise how much I drink).

She suggested I eat more protein though. So I will!

Madeinshortie · 09/09/2021 14:02

@StanleyOscar reading your journey has been inspiring. I am the same age as you & now need to lose one & a half stone. I am only 4.11 & 3/4 quarter`s so every pound shows . Like you I have been a lurker but am making myself accountable by doing a weekly weigh in on a tuesday ( did join another thread) but reading yours has giving me a lot of motivation. Well Done on your loss so far I have no doubt you will hit your target.

SW 9st 11.8lbs
CW 9st 6.8lbs
GW 8ST 0lbs

StanleyOscar · 09/09/2021 14:07

@Madeinshortie - Hello there and welcome to my thread, and thank you also for your kind words.

I say go for it! You can do it for sure, especially with the help of so many awesome people on this thread. There will be ups and downs, but if you stick to it, more ups than downs.

Keep us posted on your progress on this thread, we would love to hear how you are getting on. Do you have a target date to reach your goal, say xmas?

OP posts:
Madeinshortie · 09/09/2021 16:48

My Daughters who are 5inchs taller than me look alot slimmer even though they weigh more. As they say I'm not overweight just Undertall Smile

StanleyOscar · 09/09/2021 16:58

@Madeinshortie Yes I know what you mean. I am 5ft 8in and 15st 1lbs, however, my dad is 6ft 3in tall and weighs around 15st 9lbs, and he looks thin Shock

StarStarStar Another 1lb loss this morning, hit the 14st 13lbs and so UNDER 15 Stone! StarStarStar

Totally pumped!!!!!! Smile

Cannot remember the last time I was this weight, it was so long ago.

I bought a new pair of jeans last week, size 38in waist thinking that I would squeeze into them. Tried them on when I got home and they were too big. Exchanged them last night for a pair of 36in slim jeans...they were too big! To be fair, I think I am a 35in waist and so I will keep them. Also bought a size L polo shirt and the two really complement each other. I actually really like my new look, I don't have a fat belly anymore, I have a straight figure.

I still have a lot to lose, but loving then new look, and healthy day to day living. I hope I don't go back to my old eating habits, junk food is no substitute for a great quality way of living now I am so much lighter and thinner. The day to day joy I now get surpasses any enjoyment I had out of comfort eating. I no longer need to eat crap food to supress my depression at being overweight.

If anyone out there is reading this, and thinking of going on a diet, please take my advice and start now. Don't worry about how long it takes, everyday is going to pass by anyway, you might as well pass them whilst loosing weight and before you know it, the benefits will start rolling in. I started almost 4 months ago and the time has flown past. It's astounding how much difference it makes losing 47lbs!

@picklemewalnuts @ThroughThinkandThing @WheresMyTweezers @Madeinshortie - How we getting on team!

I'm looking at my new 'capsule wardrobe'- also known as, whatever clothes I have left that still fit. It's looking pretty good. I'm going to invest in a bravissimo bra next month. Lucky you Stanley, that you don't need to negotiate bra sizing!

Dressing is much much easier. Barely any 'does this hide my bulgy bits, do I need a longer top, will my coat look weird as it's shorter than my long top' moments. You know what I mean, ladies!

Just throw on a dress or some trousers and a top and go. Well, belt the dress so it stays on.

As Stanly says, whatever you do, just do it. Do a different diet plan every week if you get bored. But do it. It's worth it.

picklemewalnuts · 11/09/2021 13:35

Just done a six mile walk, ending with a cream tea. I had a slither of scone and cream, a slither of chocolate fridge cake, and a slither of lemon drizzle. Blooming lovely. And burnt off by the walk. Grin

StanleyOscar · 11/09/2021 16:29

@picklemewalnuts - Well done!

We can still have treats, and enjoy food, without sabotaging the diet. Smile

Just checking in - aware I've been missing in action!
Been super busy and then I've caught a bug. Not covid (had PCR test) but I've felt very weak, with sore throat, cold etc. Haven't been eating on plan at all, just whatever was easy and soothing (toast, yoghurt, ice cream, fruit juice, quiche, milk etc) plus my body weight in lozenges. No idea if I've been under calories or not (at a guess I'd say yes, but a lot of sugar and fat). I've tried to get my steps in still, but that's been it - lots of naps and general inactivity. Gingerly stepped on scales and I've stayed the same. Been a long time since I've seen a loss actually. Going to try and work in the office a bit more when I feel better so I can get back into a routine with eating/moving as I've just been grazing and lying around the last few days.

Anyway, fantastic progress @StanleyOscar but do take @picklemewalnuts sensible advice about continuing to nourish your body. Your body will thank you for treating it well.

@picklemewalnuts - exciting that you will move soon to maintenance. I have never really maintained so it'll be interesting to see how you go and what you find helpful.

@Madeinshortie I'm not quite as short as you but i know what you mean! That said, it's funny how our body types carry/distribute weight isn't it? My mother in law's starting weight was probably similar to my kind-of- target weight yet we'd have been around the same size (and height).

picklemewalnuts · 12/09/2021 14:50

Bless you, Tweezers! I hope you feel better soon. Both my sons have had a cold, and eaten their body weight in comfort food. There's was short and sharp, though.

Yes, maintenance will be a whole new adventure! I wouldn't say I'm lining up all the things I want to eat... but I am! a things that have been severely limited- home made jam, cake, marmite on toast- will start to reappear as occasional treats!

I may ask for the maintenance pack ahead of time. I'd like to have time to think about it!

StanleyOscar · 12/09/2021 15:04

@WheresMyTweezers - Oh dear, hope you get better soon. I guess what with us all wearing masks etc the past 18 months, we haven't built up any immunity to colds etc.

My day is proving to be very frustrating, just about everything is going wrong and I now realise why I used to eat so much junk food, because it was nice and unlike everything else, it never failed to make me feel good.

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 12/09/2021 15:10

That's familiar, Stanley!

One of the treats I comfort myself with instead of junk food is a nice bath. Or a lie down with a hot pack over my eyes.
An options hot chocolate, made with milk.

What works for you? You're musical, maybe headphones on, music loud, and a walk on your own, or eyes closed in a reclining armchair?

StanleyOscar · 13/09/2021 07:53

StarStarStar 3.5 STONE LOSS!!! StarStarStar

Weighed in this morning after a busy weekend fixing things on our smallholding and have lost 2lbs! Now down to 14st 11lbs, one more pound and that's 50lbs lost in under 4 months. I'm not exaggerating when I say I am a new man! Grin

On Wednesday it will be 4 weeks since I stopped going to Slimming World, and in that time I have lost 13lbs on my own. I am so pleased I didn't slip back into my old ways over the past few weeks, credit to them for teaching me a new way of healthy eating and living. Star

In 11 days time I am off to Silverstone for the weekend with my best buddy. It was my goal to be under 15st by the time we went away so that I could walk with ease and deal with any weight gained by eating a limited diet available at the circuit. I am pleased I have more than achieved that target 2 weeks early. Smile

As I have already said, anyone else thinking of going on a diet, just do it. I didn't think 4 months ago I would ever lose this much weight, nor did I have any idea how much it would change my life for the better, you really can't put a price on it! GO FOR IT!

Xmas in 15 weeks, hoping to lose 32lbs by then, might actually achieve that target!

@picklemewalnuts - I took your advice and went for a lie down, felt much better afterwards. It was just one of those days where nothing went right. DW has been away for weeks looking after her DM which is nobodies fault, it's family, it's what we do but it does mean that over the last 18 months, I have spent 5 months on my own, in a house, with no near neighbours. Gets a bit lonely after a while and it definitely isn't fun for DW either, I really do feel for her. Sad

Hello I've been busy this weekend as we fostered a 16 year old girl from Friday until this morning as she had nowhere to go so i've been preoccupied. @StanleyOscar welldone for getting into the 14s & losing 13lbs since leaving slimming world. @picklemewalnuts I thought i'd done well for my 5 mile walk on Saturday & I know what you mean about the coat that was me on Friday Smile @WheresMyTweezers I hope you are feeling better soon I weigh in tomorrow & I have been good calorie wise & completing at least 10k steps a day so I'm hoping for a loss. Grin

StanleyOscar · 14/09/2021 08:47

@Madeinshortie - That's commendable of you to foster children, no way should anyone so young be homeless, thank you for giving them a safe happy home. Star

Another 1lb off this morning. My weight loss is somewhat extreme at the moment, but I have just gone through a 7 days plateau and I have been very active the past few days. I'll take every pound loss I can, so long as I feel okay. Smile
