6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Well Done @StanleyOscar you're on a roll!! My weigh in was this morning & i'm happy to report a loss of 2.2lbs which is more than i was expecting Smile Now weigh 9st 4.6lbs
My Youngest Daughter is 16 & I would hate it if she were in need of help.
Hope everyone else doing & feeling well.

picklemewalnuts · 14/09/2021 15:07

Well done, Madein! I fostered for some years. Wore me out, but was very worthwhile!

I'm a little frustrated today. Overtired, which doesn't help. Prone to constipation this year- possibly slimming world diet related. And I haven't lost any weight this week. Tomorrow will be a very busy day. And I've eaten two caramel wafers which I assumed would be about 5 syns each, but are actually 6.5. Not a huge difference, but enough when you've doubled it!!

Gah.
Never mind. I've dinner planned and I'm out all evening so won't be able to snack anyway.
And tomorrow will be weigh day. Hey ho. Another week another weigh in!

WheresMyTweezers · 15/09/2021 10:54

Totally in awe of people who've fostered. You're angels and do such a valuable thing.

Still feeling rough AF although have weaned myself off lozenges after reading the (empty) packet and seeing 400 calories per pack. Between that and the ice-cream... I don't feel like I've had too much actual food, but what I have had has been mainly rubbish (less prep/effort the better) and I've not been as active. Feels like I'm over the worst now though.

picklemewalnuts · 15/09/2021 15:15

Morning! You'll feel better when you are on more nourishing food I expect, Tweezers. Icecream and lozenges only takes a lass so far, you know!

I had a disappointment this morning. Half a pound on- first time ever. And not deserved. However, I'm sure it will come off later after I've eaten a whole bag of kiwi with the skin still on!.

I'm afraid I comforted myself with 5 extortionately expensive chocolates and a bag of chips. But you know what? That's one rebellious meal out of many many sensible ones. I'll eat speed all week and weigh again next time.

StanleyOscar · 19/09/2021 09:46

Morning Team!

I've been away for a few days, and I have been naughty! Grin

Bought a nice new car on Tuesday ready for my trip around the country visiting family. Drove 100 miles to visit parents for a few hours on Thursday, had salad for lunch, then drove on another 70 miles to stay with sister and family for one night. That was a challenge as they are very keen on dinning out, entertaining etc. During my stay with them we went out to a nice restaurant and I had hunters chicken with chips, but only ate 4 chips, the chicken, a few peas and I was full and so I left the rest. The next morning we went out to another restaurant, but not any ordinary restaurant...this was a CHOCOLATE restaurant! Shock

Well, I am allergic to chocolate so I ordered a double expresso and a maple & pecan slice. I then drove another 100 miles to collect my wife from her mothers, consumed a small bag of crisps en route. When wife and her cat were loaded up, we made our way along our 220 mile trip home and popped into Starbucks en route and had a coffee.

Upshot is that I still lost half a pound by Saturday morning. I am off to Silverstone on Wednesday for five days and I highly doubt the catering vans will be offering salad etc and so I plan to take my own food and maybe indulge in a few treats. At least the past few days have shown that a little indulgence won't destroy the diet. Smile

Weighed in this morning, another 1lb off! Grin

Start: 18st 4lbs
Current: 14st 9lbs
Target: 12st 7lbs
Loss: 51lbs

How's everyone else? @WheresMyTweezers @Madeinshortie @picklemewalnuts @73kittycat73

Morning @StanleyOscar haven’t been too bad this week but did succumb to some wine last night & had 2 orange clubs. I don’t have the parents today for Sunday lunch so I’m going to have the day off! will be extra good today & tomorrow to make up for yesterday. I am hoping for a least a little loss on Tuesday Hmm x you seem to have had an eventful week! Well done on the loss! You’ll be hitting your target in no time you are such an angel Halo hope everyone has had a good week x

picklemewalnuts · 19/09/2021 11:51

I'm still waiting for the scales to give me my deserved lbs off!!

I'm just carrying on in the hope it will shift, increasing my water intake, and keeping up the walking.

I'm at mum's for a week from Tuesday, so will have to see how that goes. I'll take my usual survival kit!

I will start recording everything again, as that will be helpful when it's hard to stay on track!

I'm sure my last few lbs will shift soon. They must!

Madeinshortie · 21/09/2021 08:09

Only a loss of 0.6 so now exactly 9st 4lb I am going to start doing some exercise on an evening & no wine this Saturday!! Hope everyone else gets the results they’re after Smile also will make sure i drink water as of late I haven’t been having much.

picklemewalnuts · 21/09/2021 20:18

It's the right direction though, Shortie!

Mine seems to have shifted a little. Not a lot, but it's started! I'm at mum's again. I've had a plate of roasted veg today, with cheese and spinach sauce.
I'll have to be fast on my feet to stay on plan though! Tomorrow we're eating out for her birthday. We're looking at houses/areas together.

WheresMyTweezers · 22/09/2021 07:06

Hi everyone.
Work still manic so I've been very quiet. I'm currently at 1.5st off in c3mths I think. Have had a little loss since starting to eat properly again - I think I was ok calorie wise when sick but was taking in a lot of fat and sugar which I think might have shocked by body a bit? So it's nice to see the scales moving again.

Looking ahead, I'd be absolutely delighted with the same again by Christmas so I suppose I best get buckling down again...

Glad everyone else is still feeling fairly positive too.

WheresMyTweezers · 24/09/2021 12:21

Another 1lb off today. I'll take it, but I'm not sure how - I mean, I'm doing what I do when I STS and don't seem to have done anything different to have prompted 4lb in a week. Bodies eh?

I would like to lose another stone by Christmas (ideally 1.5 which should be easily doable but this plateau/drop thing makes me cautious about setting myself up for a fall).

I'm 3lb away from being into my next stone bracket (the second stone bracket I'll have passed) and 6lb away from my second stone so we'll see where we get to.

I've a mini-break planned next month and it's a proper seaside mini-break and much as @StanleyOscar is an inspiration, there is no way I won't feel like chips when I'm at the seaside. I'll probably have them for breakfast! Plus ice cream and afternoon tea. I'll be doing loads and loads of walking though and I'll be sensible in the lead up.

Hope you're enjoying Silverstone @stanleyoscar!

And @picklemewalnuts - hope your trip to your mum's has gone well (I really liked the sound of the vegetables with cheese and spinach sauce).

@Madeinshortie a great start from you!

StanleyOscar · 28/09/2021 13:52

Well hello team! Grin

I've had a few interesting days. Last Wednesday I went to Northampton with a friend for a few days to see the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone, we had a good time and just missed this awful weather when we returned yesterday.

We booked into a camp site for a few days, it was bitterly cold at night and as expected, nothing but junk food & booze on offer. Well, I had one pint of cider, which is about my yearly quota as I don't normally drink. We also had hotdogs, chips etc, but I actually didn't have much. I always get bunged up when on holiday as I don't like public toilets, it's a thing I have had since a child. Never know what you might catch! Sad

Each day we walked 15k-20k steps, and so I had plenty of exercise.

Returned home yesterday, my digestive system is starting to return to normal. Weighed in this morning not really knowing what to expect, if anything, I expected to put on a few pounds as I have been on a strict diet for 4 months, and then packed in a load of high calorie foods, in fact, I was a little worried it might destroy all the hard work and I might end up reverting back to my old eating habits. Shock

Well, good news! I weighed in this morning...and no change! Still 14st 9lbs! Grin

I am chuffed to bits because it means I can behave myself at home, go out for a weekend and eat what I want (within reason) and come back home without being punished. I am off to Berlin in two weeks time, and so I have gone back to my diet and hope to lose some more lbs before my trip. Whilst away I plan to do the same, eat a few treats but ration the portions and hope to minimise the damage.

Although I still have a lot more weight to lose, I do feel that I can maintain my weight.

How's everyone doing? @WheresMyTweezers @picklemewalnuts @Madeinshortie

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 28/09/2021 14:13

Yeah I think getting back on it is key - you can have a "blip" and it won't do too much damage.

I'm in "that week" so I'm not expecting much of a loss this week but I'm currently wearing a pair of "skinny" jeans which look terrible as they're too baggy so I suppose that's good Confused

picklemewalnuts · 28/09/2021 17:41

Weigh day tomorrow! I was disheartened last weighday with .5lb on, but that will have come off this time with a little extra as well.

I'm on the home run now. Just want to lose, say, another 7lbs.
I got a cute little planner from SW with meal planners, goals, recipes etc. I've started putting in the events/meals out I need to plan for. Obviously a Christmas meal planner.

That all sounds very sensible and optimistic, Stanley!

And I agree tweezers, sometimes it makes no sense at all what the body does.

I didn't eat brilliantly at mum's- the cake we saw on our outings was the best I've seen in a while! I didn't eat badly though, so it all evens out in the end!

StanleyOscar · 29/09/2021 08:26

@WheresMyTweezers - Skinny jeans that are too baggy is a good problem to have! Smile

@picklemewalnuts - Let us know how you get on with the weigh in today, so glad to hear that you are on the home run too, you must be so pleased. Also looking forward to hearing about how you progress with the maintenance plan. Smile

I weighed in this morning and another 1lb gone, so it would seem, for me, a few days eating crap, in moderation, doesn't have much impact. I have two weeks until I go away again, but at least I can eat good food in Germany, access to plenty of fruit and veg.

Start: 18st 4lbs
Current: 14st 8lbs
Target: 12st 7lbs
Loss: 52lbs

WheresMyTweezers · 29/09/2021 11:03

Another 1lb off for me today, bringing me up to 23lbs off. Immediate targets are another 2lb off to break the next stone barrier and 5lb off to make it 2 stones exactly.

I have a few things on - drinks with friends tomorrow, meal with colleagues on Friday, meal with family next week - but I'm feeling fairly confident I can keep things on track, or at least pull back enough on the other days that it will balance out.

I'm definitely doing slow but steady - the home stretch seems a long way away for me (especially since I haven't really set a target! - I think I might be nearing the half way point, or possibly the 1/3 point) but in all honesty, I don't mind. I've managed to keep living my life and the main changes have been: no white bread, minimal snacking, no wine/beer, keeping an eye on crappy carbs (pastry and the like) and keeping up with my daily steps. It's good to see @picklemewalnuts that bit further down the track and acting as a success story.

StanleyOscar · 29/09/2021 11:27

@WheresMyTweezers - Well done! 23lbs is amazing, also any pace is fine so long as you are happy and comfortable with it. As we all know, it's not a race, it's a change for good and taking it at a good pace means you are more likely to stick to it in the long run.

Roll on the next 2lbs! Grin

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 29/09/2021 12:54

23lbs is great, Tweezers. As you say, it's all sustainable changes so you will find maintaining easier when you decide that.

I lost about 1.5lb, but over two weeks and bear in mind I'd put half a lb on! So I don't know at all Grinbut it was a move in the right direction. I got my 5.5 stone award. I'd quite like to lose half a stone in the next 4 weeks. 2lb a week. A bit more than usual, I think, but doable as a last burst of effort! I'll use the Christmas planner to keep me on track.

StanleyOscar · 29/09/2021 13:16

@picklemewalnuts - 5.5 stone! Shock

Well done! Flowers

No loss for me this week but no gain either. I was a bit disappointed & admit it did derail me a few days. Going to work hard this month & would like to lose at least 7lbs. well done @WheresMyTweezers amazing weightloss! Good for you @StanleyOscar for maintaining & enjoy Berlin I lived their when I was younger (my dad was in the army) a lot of fond memories! @picklemewalnuts congratulations on 5.5stone WOW! Hope everybody has a good week xx

picklemewalnuts · 01/10/2021 08:08

We went out for a meal last night, celebrating my son passing his important and spectacularly difficult exams. It's a long and boring tale of a hard couple of years where Covid made the difficult even harder and more extended! So it was well worth celebrating, as much from relief that it's over as actual congratulations!

However the menu wasn't great from a healthy eating POV. I gave some of mine away, and enjoyed what I did have- so better than what I'd have done in the past!

There's no point weighing. I've got good meals planned from here on in though, so will take Wednesday when it comes!

WheresMyTweezers · 01/10/2021 12:17

Yes 5.5stone is amazing @picklemewalnuts - such an inspiration and a meal out won't knock you off track.

I'm telling myself that as I went out last night. I hardly ever drink alcohol and I now have a raging hangover so in addition to the empty calories last night, I've binged on carbs and sugar because there was no way I'd make it though the day otherwise! Didn't weigh today, and probably won't weigh tomorrow Blush

@Madeinshortie you haven't much to lose really so I suspect your loss will see quite a few STS. My cycle affects my loss too - it's interesting to look back over a couple of months and see clear patterns. Weighing daily isn't for everyone, but with me I find it helps as I can see a trend rather than a snapshot on a particular day (and also it's a motivation to get back on track quickly if I see it edging the wrong way). Keep positive!

StanleyOscar · 02/10/2021 08:46

Weighed in this morning, another 1lbs down! Now down to 14st 7lbs, just another 2st to go and I am at my target. So, since returning back home on Monday after my junk food holiday I have lost 3lbs, which I am pleased with.

Just 3lbs more to go and I have lost 4st since 20th May.

Still can't believe the difference 53lbs makes, and I know it is a lot to lose, but I feel so different. All my ailments such as tummy aches and gastric issues/indigestion have gone. I feel better than ever, better than I did 20 years ago. Grin

Start: 18st 4lbs
Current: 14st 7lbs
Target: 12st 7lbs
Loss: 53lbs

picklemewalnuts · 02/10/2021 09:44

That's great Stanley! It's the things you can do that you'd not noticed yourself avoiding- bending to do shoes, having baths etc.
Also the dressing is so much easier!

StanleyOscar · 03/10/2021 06:38

Up early today, I am an early riser, don't need much sleep.

Weighed in this morning and another 1lb loss, totalling 4lbs this week. It's always strange how my body reacts to dieting, long plateaus followed by drastic drops. It all works out in the end though.

My new 36-inch waist jeans I bought a few weeks ago are already too big and so I think I will either buy a new pair of 34-inch waist or wait until I get down to 32-inches. Less than 2st to go until I hit my target!

Start: 18st 4lbs
Current: 14st 6lbs
Target: 12st 7lbs
Loss: 54lbs
