6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

Thank you![/quote]
Also how jealous I am. Heaviest ever today. Will have another read through for inspiration.

StanleyOscar · 28/08/2021 16:06

@JSL52 - I know exactly how you feel, that was me 3 months ago, reading everyone elses stories of how they had lost a lot of weight, and how it felt so much better.

Today, I still read about others who have lost twice as much as me, and wish I was 6 stone lighter, but I have already seen big gains from the 3 stone I have lost. The best thing I did was to stop worrying about how heavy I was and just get started on loosing the weight. Before long the pounds started to drop off, and the weeks/months actually slipped by fairly quickly.

I say go for it, you won't regret doing so!

Well done @StanleyOscar and hello @JSL52 !

You'll be pleased to hear, Stanley, that BiL brought pretzels and nachos, which I can resist with ease. No off plan food has been eaten!

We had a cooked breakfast, all within SW, and a curry this evening. All free, or near enough. I've made some rice pudding, which I may have later.

Tomorrow I'm doing roast pork loin with stuffing which I'll have to syn. I'll have a jacket, they'll have roasties. Apple sauce (should be syn'd but not worth it for the amount I'll have).

So I'm still fully on plan, just a few days to go.

Re resisting the cake, I could- but I have to keep this up for another 6 months, 18 months in all, including holidays, birthdays, Christmas, Easter... and then a maintenance plan after that. So far, although there have been a few celebration weeks where I've maintained, I've not ever put weight on. Having treats around the edge of eating extra sensibly makes it sustainable for me. I'd have cracked and broken if I hadn't had crisps, cake or chocolate for a whole year.

I do need to eat some skin on kiwi, or drink a few strong coffees though Blush

StanleyOscar · 29/08/2021 08:26

@picklemewalnuts - Hey, that's good to hear that BiL didn't sabotage your plan, I hate it if I eat off plan food because I then over analzye my weight and think it will stall etc. I haven't eaten off plan for quite some time now because I think that if I do, it will destroy my diet Grin

I am very interested in your maintenance plan btw. I really need to work one out in readiness for Xmas because I hope/think that's when I will reach my target weight. I don't plan to go too mad over xmas, and so New Year will be ideal for a mainenance plan. I'm thinking of doing what my parents do, and they have a high degree of success with 5:2. I think I would be quite comfortable with healthy eating and exercise Mon-Fri and then a few treats over the weekend. As soon as I put on a few pounds, reel it in and don't eat treats etc until my weight has dropped back down to the base weight.

picklemewalnuts · 29/08/2021 08:42

I should be on it by then, so I'll tell you their advice.

It's tailored to you according to how fast you've lost- you would need to eat substantially more, for example, as you've been losing weight fast and restricting more. I'll only increase my intake a little, as I've been losing quite gently. It will be something like being allowed 2 hexbs instead of one, for example, and increasing syns to 20 rather than 15.

I'll keep up the 16:8, as that will help. And never let it get beyond 7lb up. That's the window they follow. I want to stay at the bottom of that window, essentially.

ThroughThinkandThing · 30/08/2021 13:41

@picklemewalnuts that sounds a really good maintenance plan. I'm still a long way to go from thinking about it, but I definitely don't want to relapse.

@StanleyOscar fantastic on the three stone!

I'm under 200lb which was my next milestone, so really pleased. 198 to be exact, so not far from starting with 13stone, which will be great. Waist stayed the same, but I expected to slow down there.

So far (since June) lost 26 lb, four inches from my waist and 3 from my hips. Starting to fit into old clothes again - still a way to go, but positive steps!

I think my next big target is 12 stone for Christmas.

picklemewalnuts · 30/08/2021 13:57

That's a great improvement on the waist, which is an important measure.

Have you all done the waist hip ratio? I'll find the instructions and post them later.

StanleyOscar · 30/08/2021 14:30

@ThroughThinkandThing - Well done, that's great! Fitting into clothes is such a great reward, I love it. Smile

My wife convinced me that we should have a chinese takeaway last night, it was good and I only ate a modest amount, I gave up as soon as I felt I had enough.

This mornings weigh in was 1lb gain, but I suspect it is just the shear weight of the food I ate last night, no way was it 3,500 calories and no way could my body process it into 1lb of fat that quickly.

Off to Surrey tonight and return tomorrow, and so next weigh in will be on Wedneasday morning, I expect the 1lb gain will be gone and so I am not at all bothered. If I were to go on a food rampage for a week or so, then that would be something to worry about, definitely would be a diet sabotage.

Off to Silverstone in just over three weeks time and so I hope to get down to 14st 13lbs by then, just 5lbs to loose in 24 days, I think that will be a fair target. All good! Grin

OP posts:
ThroughThinkandThing · 30/08/2021 15:54

@picklemewalnuts I haven't - I've always been a bit sceptical of it as although I know hip:waist ratio is important, no matter how slim or fat I've been, it stays within the same general area (started as 0.7, now 0.66). I might not be doing it right though!

picklemewalnuts · 30/08/2021 16:03

Here we go.
I'm a bit disgusted- mine's worse! From.79 to .84

Still good to know I suppose. I'll get my tape measure out again later, see if I mismeasured!!

StanleyOscar · 30/08/2021 16:14

@picklemewalnuts - That's a good chart with the apples etc and interesting to know. I would consider myself more like a pumpkin though Confused

WheresMyTweezers · 31/08/2021 07:04

Hi,

Sorry I've been missing in action - one of those weeks where I've worked hard/played hard. I had been out 5 times in a week, had alcohol 3 times in a week (even when I have spirits and low cal mixers it's still not great for me) and one day I was just exhausted and indulged in too many carbs and sweet stuff (but man, that Ben & Jerry's Phish Food was goooooood!). Anyway, didn't weigh for a couple of days, got on the scales today and...I'm pretty much the same! I'll take that as a massive win, especially factoring in "that week".

Have missed most catch ups but did see your 3 stone @StanleyOscar - wooooooo! Well done! And yes, I look at your loss and think "that could be me if if stop going out so much!" but well suppose it doesn't matter how long it takes so long as I get there!

Anyway, good thing is I'm now too skint to go out again (except family birthday this week) so I'll be on plan by default!

Hope everyone else is well

picklemewalnuts · 31/08/2021 18:08

Great result, Tweezers!

We've done some family menu planning today. I just ran out of steam, thinking about what to cook.

Now I've got a list of about ten meals they fancy, they've volunteered to cook a couple of them, I just need to organise the shopping list. Easy peasy!

Tonight we had a lovely vegetable chilli, quite hot. I had mine with a jacket potato, they had a pitta bread. It actually had chicken thighs with it, because I suddenly realised they were on their date.

It was bloomin' lovely.

picklemewalnuts · 01/09/2021 14:00

Half a pound off today, and a challenge. I want to lose 2.5lb this week, and 4kg this month. That gets me to 85kg which is overweight.

I'm considering stopping there. I'll keep working on fitness, and on weight maintenance. I'll be a target member! Woohoo.

StanleyOscar · 01/09/2021 15:17

@picklemewalnuts - Well done, every little bit helps! You can get the 2.5lbs, I've no doubt and it's interesting that you say 85kg is a potential stopping point, I agree. There is so much information out there as to what our ideal weight should be, but in truth nobody really knows, especially if they haven't ever met you, or know your shape etc. I was talking to a friend this morning who in the past lost around 7st. He said that his recommended weight is 10st 7lbs, but when he dropped below 14st everyone mentioned that he actually looked quite ill, and interestingly he didn't feel too good either. So, his optimum weight is around 14st and that's when he gives up.

My ideal weight is supposed to be around 11st, but I highly doubt that would be realistic. I am aiming for 12st 7lbs but would actually be quite happy with 13st 7lbs or 85kg.

Weighed in this morning, 15st 4lbs and so the 1lb gained from the Chinese takeaway is gone. Hoping for another 1lb off tomorrow.

picklemewalnuts · 01/09/2021 15:58

Well done- I'm so glad you had a treat without feeling bad afterwards. When we have Chinese, I eat so much less than I would have in the past. Obviously it's not a healthy meal, but it's a normal part of life that needs to be negotiated.

So I'll have a serious, on plan week and see where I end up!

StanleyOscar · 01/09/2021 16:24

@picklemewalnuts - Yes, I eat much less too. Today whilst I was out with a friend, he wanted to eat as he hadn't had any breakfast and was starving. He suggested we stopped off for a big fried breakfast, and normally I would jump at the chance, but I declined. I said that he was welcome to have anything he liked, but I would just have a coffee. He decided against having a breakfast.

Anyhow, some time later he caved in and decided to go to BurgerKing for lunch, again I declined the option of fast food and said a coffee would be fine. So that's what we did, he ordered a big burger with fries etc, I sat and watched him whilst I drank my coffee.

Now the interesting thing is, and don't get me wrong, I'm not critising anyone else, but I didn't hanker after a burger, and I felt better sitting there feeling slim, or at least 4st lighter than him, and it was worth not having the junk food in favour of sitting comfortably in my new clothes any day.

No surprise that when we got back to the car, he was panting and out of breath, I was fine. Smile

Morning Team!

@picklemewalnuts
@ThroughThinkandThing
@WheresMyTweezers

How are we all doing?

Weighed in this morning, 2lbs loss Grin

My weight seems to follow a pattern where it will plateau for days, and then suddenly drop a few pounds, and then plateau again. Upshot is that I am still acheiving an average 3lb loss each week and I am on target for hitting my goal of 81lb loss before Xmas.

During each plateau, I can definitely say that my body is still working away and there is a change in measurements. Yesterday I bought a new pair of jeans, size 38in waist but when I got home I tried them on and they were too big. When I started out on this diet I had a 44 inch waist, am now down to 37in waist.

Can't wait to see 14st 13lbs on the scales, longtime since I've seen that, possibly 20+ years? Only 3lbs to go! Star

To anyone else thinking of going on a diet, just do it! Don't worry about how heavy you are, how much you have to lose, how long it will take, just get on and do it! I started out three months ago and have lost over 3 stone. I haven't looked back, my life has already changed considerably for the better.

SW = 18st 4lbs
CW = 15st 2lbs
TW = 12st 7lbs
Loss = 44lbs

I'm here all present and correct Grin

I had a treat today, for lunch, that I didn't have the last two times I met friends and won't have the next two. So it evens out, if you see what I mean. It's a strategy!

The meal planning has helped a lot. Much less mental stress. I was chatting today with people who didn't know me pre weight loss, and when my mobility was bad. They see me as someone who is good at tai chi, rather than as someone who was practically immobile two years ago. So that was interesting. And I saw someone for the first time in years yesterday. She was shocked at the difference. It was nice!

StanleyOscar · 03/09/2021 15:37

@picklemewalnuts - Well done on the lunch and yes, I see your logic.

It's great to hear that you are so much more mobil now, definitely worth dieting to improve the quality of your life so much. I can quite imagine how thrilled you must have been when your friend reacted to your weight loss, it makes the whole journey so much better. Star
