Shiny new thread to continue on with! I hope everyone keeps going.

For any newbies, this thread is based on a book by Dr Andrew Jenkinson. The main principles are to cut out sugar, wheat and ultra-processed foods, while eating fresh natural ingredients. It works!

Good morning!
👋 to all new posters.
A tip - if you find yourself getting hungry try sprinkling flax seeds on your food, or mix a couple of teaspoons into yogurt, porridge etc.
They are rich in omega 3, full of fibre and really fill you up.

BangingOn · 13/06/2021 09:53

It’s nice to hear how everyone is getting on and I love reading other people’s menu plans.

I am now down 1 stone 4lbs, which I’m really pleased with and I’m starting to notice the difference in my clothes. Unfortunately nobody expect my husband has commented on the difference as I’ve only lost the weight that I’ve put on in lockdown so far, so I’m looking the same as I did last time most people saw me Grin

Today we are going to friends for a BBQ and I’ve made chicken tikka and spicy Chinese pork belly slices to take. I might make some new potatoes in garlic butter too.

Meals this week are:
Japanese chicken and sushi rice bake
Mexican chicken casserole
Beef rendang
Bolognaise with salad
Trout with horseradish
Konkani green curry

Tiredandbored · 13/06/2021 10:00

You're pretty much travelling round the whole globe with that menu @BangingOn, sounds lush!! 😋😋

Tiredandbored · 13/06/2021 10:02

Today for me is:
B - porridge
L - smoked salmon on rye crispbreads with Philadelphia
D - roast chicken dinner with roast carrots and parsnips, cauliflower and peas.

BangingOn · 13/06/2021 10:03

@Tiredandbored that sounds like a meal planning challenge!

Tiredandbored · 13/06/2021 10:16

Weighed myself again today, have lost a total of 1 stone 5 lbs, so very similar to you @BangingOn. Same thing about it being lockdown lard so far as well! 😂

Have lost another 1.5lbs since my recent plateau, so I'm optimistic I'm still losing weight and haven't reached my set point yet. Would love to lose another 10lbs at least, but don't want to set myself an unrealistic target as it will not be sustainable otherwise.

Am delighted to be eating as much as I am, not having to weigh or count any portions, not having to cut out too much but still being able to eat 'normal' meals and still be losing weight. This is SO much better than any other diet I've ever been on and SO much more sustainable as a new WoE.

BangingOn · 13/06/2021 12:00

@Tiredandbored that is brilliant, well done! That’s a huge loss if you don’t have that much to lose overall.

I had a plateau and then a big loss, which I think is often water. I need to lose at least another 3 stone, probably another 4 or even 5 if I’m being ambitious but I’d be happy at the upper end of a healthy BMI.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 13/06/2021 13:07

Had a gorgeous salad for lunch.
Rocket, baby spinach, peppers, red onion, goats cheese and air fried chorizo, with small splash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Cut up some courgette, red onions and peppers and marinaded in olive oil and herbs, to make barbecue skewers later.

Now watching That Sugar Film.
Going to Waitrose later (have vouchers) so will look out for some good oils.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 13/06/2021 15:16

That’s about where I started @YoungBritishPissArtist I’m now 94 (had to google a conversion I work in stone) I gave up sugar on March 6th. So my rules are no ready meals, sugar sweets pudding etc. I do have the occasional crisps and wine at weekends. Good luck

@YoungBritishPissArtist I started at 103kg blush just under a month later and I’m down to 98.7kg

Someone upthread said they were in a similar starting place to me. So there’s loads of us in the same boat. Let’s do this and change our diets forever... no deprivation or calorie counting. Just delicious, satisfying food!

Sorry, it's taken me ages to reply and the thread has moved on but thanks, @Billybagpuss and @Ifyoubelieveyouwill, those are amazing losses - so inspiring!

YoungBritishPissArtist · 13/06/2021 15:22

Oh and thank you @YoungBritishPissArtist I’ve just put an order in with the gather & hunter £35 for their Keto starter box (7 products). It’s nice to know I have some condiments ready to go if I fancy some mayo or ketchup. The avocado oil looks good too, although I’m not sure what MCT oil is??
Which is almost the saving I made this week, not buying crap in my weekly shop! A big bag of popping corn and raisins for the kids snacks, rather than all the crisps/ cake bars/ biscuits/ ice cream I’d usually buy which is quite a saving

Glad you've found some products you like! Smile I'm going to buy the mayo again so I can make some homemade coleslaw. I'd like to try the avocado oil because I think it has a high smoke point?

I think I will save so much money on the woe! I used to spend a shameful amount of £££ on takeaways, snacks and other crap.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 13/06/2021 15:28

DH takes MCT oil as a supplement, for his mental health, so it must be good! Something about medium chain triglycerides and how they're better than other oils because of how we use them. I'll see if I can find some the info he was reading.

This is interesting as I have MH problems. If you find any info can you please post it, @RagzReturnsRebooted?

I started about 10 days ago, at 96.1kg and am 94.7kg today, so around 3lbs lost. I switched to weighing in kg this year because I've lost and gained stones and pounds so many times I kept comparing myself to previous weights. I don't have an emotional connection to my weight in kilos, so I cnst just appreciate the numbers.

I love this! I'm done with dieting and I so associate it with stones and pounds.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 13/06/2021 17:32

Just wasted £4 worth of fancy cold pressed oil trying to make mayo. It all went horribly wrong. Last time I made mayo, it worked perfectly... I'm blaming hormones and sulking in my hammock.

Rollergirl1980 · 13/06/2021 19:04

RagzReturnsRebooted when my mayo has gone wrong it's always one of two things. One - extra virgin olive oil does not work. Two - if it's too runny you just need to add an extra egg and blend again.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 13/06/2021 19:12

Oh no, Ragz Sad did you get some nice oils in Waitrose?

RagzReturnsRebooted · 13/06/2021 19:29

@Rollergirl1980 it was cold pressed rapeseed oil. I tried an extra egg. Also tried hot water. Neither worked. I tried to do it with too big a volume and in too wide a container, I think.
@YoungBritishPissArtist yes I did. Expensive!

The sugar free meringues I made with the egg whites worked though, used inulin and erythritol. Not sure how acceptable they are, but I have loads in the cupboard from my low carb days and they've got to be better than sugar. Also, inulin is very good for the gut bacteria, as it's a prebiotic (start with small amounts, unless you're constipated!).

Rollergirl1980 · 13/06/2021 21:09

@RagzReturnsRebooted I've only ever used olive oil. Sorry yours was a bust 😢

BangingOn · 13/06/2021 21:33

@RagzReturnsRebooted I am a big fan of inulin and haven’t found anything that says it’s an issue on this WOE.

samthebordercollie · 13/06/2021 21:41

@RagzReturnsRebooted
Im a big fan of the microbiome and with this woe I'm a little disappointed that some foods are banned even though they are good for the microbiome. Like nuts!

YoungBritishPissArtist · 14/06/2021 00:50

@samthebordercollie I haven't read the book yet (still waiting on the library) but I'm still eating nuts and seeds every day, I've got bags and bags in the cupboard and I'm not wasting them!

Billybagpuss · 14/06/2021 05:39

@samthebordercollie how quickly do you read, you can pay to download on kindle then request it to be removed and refunded if you read it quick enough through Amazon

Tinkling · 14/06/2021 13:47

Hello! I have finally got through the pages of where I’d missed things.

Had a crappy couple of weeks food wise, old habits die hard. However my nan told me I looked slimmer yesterday, she’s the first person. I’m sure I’ve gained a pound or two but I darent check. I have eaten ALL the cake, chocolate, ice cream and frozen crap. But today is a new day, I made my potato skillet and had a JP stuffed with cheese and vegetables (and some chorizo).

Life has been stressful with health problems. Long story short, I have peripheral neuropathy / paresthesia (tingling in my feet, lower legs and chin) and have some for nearly 2 years. It progressed into my left arm along with burning and weakness and I was convinced I either had a brain tumour or MS. I have spoken to a doctor who wants to see me for a neurological exam, but I have also done lots of research on B12 deficiency and how normal blood levels can’t rule it out. Fingers crossed that’s all it is.

Anyway, I’m pleased to see you’re all doing well and continuing to enjoy the plan.

I like the idea of your 2 weeks menu, I might try one myself. The trouble is sometimes you end up fancying something different dont you?! Oh well! I’m going to write one now before the school run.

HighlandCowbag · 14/06/2021 14:14

Hello everyone

Glad to see everyone seems to be doing well, or if not, planning to get back on it. Old habits do die hard.

I've not had a bad weekend really, tho have had far too much beer. I had a bacon sandwich Saturday lunchtime because they literally had nothing at all that was on plan and I was starving and stuck at the cafe waiting for the kids to finish watersports. Saturday we had steak, med veg and chips for dinner. Then yesterday had a couple of chicken skewers. So not bad if I ignore the beers.

Ifyoubelieveyouwill · 14/06/2021 15:32

I had a good weekend food wise. The only thing I ate that wasn’t on plan, was a homemade tuna mayo salad sandwich which I made for the children before I took them swimming. I didn’t have time to make anything different for myself. However I think there’s definitely progress as it was a regular size and after eating it, I felt very full. I only managed an apple alongside. That’s quite a shift for me- usually 1 roll wouldn’t touch the sides!

I had 1 GnT and 2 glasses of wine. No regrets and I enjoyed them in the evening sunshine on our patio. I was pleased to read the bit of the book where he’s say moderate alcohol consumption does not lead to weight gain in most people. Yeay! I probably average 3-4 drinks a week and I enjoy it too much to give up. I rarely binge drink, probably only at big events like weddings.

On the scales this morning I was 0.6kg lighter than the previous Monday morning, so very happy with that.

Flossie44 · 14/06/2021 15:50

Hi all

I’ve been off plan the last couple of weeks due to unforeseen family bits and pieces.
But back on as of today.
Banana and oat cakes for breakfast. Greek salad for lunch and stir fry for dinner.
My friend sent me a link for This Morning..chatting about food/oils and fats along with benefits for weight loss. Will try and send a link
