Let me know if you are on this - there are a couple of threads but can't tell which is current.

(But please don't bother commenting if just to tell me not to do it - I am aware of the chances of regaining the weight at the end, but need something to motivate me in the early stages out of the current mess I've got myself into. I have tried many options, have had various forms of eating therapy and food coaching and understand what does/doesn't work for me)

I'm aware I need to drinks loads of water, any other tips? I have 35 kg to lose (!!) :-)

Watching with interest as I'm (re)starting my Cambridge journey!

I've messed about with it on and off every six months or so but I know it works... I lost a reasonable amount in 2018 before I fell pregnant and had to stop.

Step 2 for me. I have at least 10 Stone to lose 😭

ramarama · 20/05/2021 14:15

Ok so I'm going ok. Except that it's technically day 2 and i cheated and ate a small chorizo stick (so def low carb/high protein and only 100 calories, but not great)

Now having soup and have bought loads of herbal teas and vanilla coffee as 'treats'

Hi All

I am at my heaviest weight and feeling really down. I feel like I need to try something different and have been looking at the 1:1 and have just contacted a consultant...would love to hear how you're all doing and how you're finding it.

xx

Gemi33 · 21/05/2021 14:32

The consultant I've been in touch with has said I should start on step 1b - does anyone know why that would be and why I wouldn't start on 1a? I'd obviously like to lose as much weight as possible and I know 1b is higher calories so just curious why that might be?

ramarama · 21/05/2021 15:09

I honestly don't know, but: are you quite tall? Or if you have are currently eating a lot, maybe they think it would be too hard to stick to at first? Or if you've said you have to cook for others, so it would feel too much deprivation?

Someone above was advised it does not affect weightloss much to do so - calories are obvs important but getting into effective ketosis by sticking to it is presumably more important?

@Gemi33 I'm on official day 3 and not feeling overly hungry. There's not much to lose by trying for a fortnight if you are considering it.

a friend who has been on it 2.5 months just sent me photos of her looking fab to attend a wedding, she's lost around 15kg I think? She's my motivation

My DH is on the diet with me and has been for a week today and has lost 1.5 stone Envy he has about 3 stone to go but I'm so jealous! I will weigh and report back tomorrow.

tiredvommachine · 22/05/2021 15:50

I've lost 7lb, it's disappointing compared to DH but it is what it is. Onward and downwards! Hope everyone else is getting on well.

Gemi33 · 24/05/2021 08:49

Morning!

So I'm starting today! My consultant is coming to see me a bit later and is bringing my first week of products. Feeling a bit nervous, I thought I should just start before I have chance to talk myself out of it, I hope I can do this, I've failed at losing weight so many times!

xx

ramarama · 24/05/2021 09:14

@Gemi33 Ah good luck! I"m less than a week in and had to have a cheat meal yesterday (honestly not by choice, was a specific occasion) so I'm going to hold off weighing myself for a few days. But it seemed to be working before the weekend (and I lost over 3Kg in first 4 days)

OP posts:
ramarama · 24/05/2021 09:16

@tiredvommachine this just means you have less to lose than he does. I need to lose 4-5 stone and it's coming off me much faster in the early stages than off my friend who only needs to lose two.

Well done all of you!

One of things I'm worried about is socialising - I don't socialise alot and tbh I'd be quite happy to avoid altogether for the first 12 weeks, I just want to give it my best shot. But I have a close friend who is keen for a meal out now things are opening up and there is also the possibility of a date with someone I have met online (not sure yet though..). I don't want to be seen as a killjoy and also I suspect that some of my friends and family would not be supportive and would see this as too drastic so I'm not sure how to handle it.

xx

ramarama · 24/05/2021 10:09

My advice, as I've had to handle similar queries:

  • try to avoid meals out for first two weeks or so, so that the diet becomes your 'normal' (I have failed to do this as had to eat out 4 days in!)
  • Go out if and when needed, don't mention the diet and if questioned say you are just trying to eat more healthily. Eat low carb by choosing say a steak with greens on the side, or a chicken salad w no dressing. If you avoid most carbs and sugar and it's just one meal, it shouldn't throw you off too much.
check the menu before you go so that you can order without looking at it and therefore don't get tempted. Eating low carb in restaurants is actually quite easy - just avoid pizza restaurants :-)

Can't think of anything more boring on an online/first date than discussing your diet, so you don't need to!

OP posts:
ramarama · 24/05/2021 10:11

@Gemi33

ps. online dates should be kept to coffee only for first date if poss, saves you wasting 2 hours, money and wasted calories if you know in the first 60 seconds you don't like them ;-)

Gemi33 · 24/05/2021 16:39

Thanks for the advice ramarama - he has suggested we grab a coffee/tea and go for a walk so I think it will be ok if I decide to go (haven't dated in a long time and have never met up with someone I've met online). I'm terrified (and convinced he will run a mile when he sees me in the flesh) so not sure how I feel about it.

My consultant has been and was lovely. So far I've had two products (strawberry and apple bar and one of the smoothies) and I'm pleasantly surprised tbh, they taste ok. I ordered 1 of everything almost so I could try and find out what I like. I have a feeling the shakes / smoothies might not be my favourite but I'll give everything a go.

ramarama · 24/05/2021 17:37

@Gemi33 good luck! It's exciting, try to treat it like it's a game...

I had my first ever online date this time last year (nothing like starting dating again after over a decade during lockdown!) After kissing - or rather not kissing - about half a dozen disappointing frogs, I've finally found a rather decent one.

Do a video chat first to take some of the pressure off your in person meeting

Also started 1b today !

Gemi33 · 25/05/2021 07:12

Hi wingingit15, good to see someone else starting on the same step at the same time - how are you finding it so far?

ramarama lovely to hear you've found a decent one! I just don't feel confident in how I look and can't imagine anyone would find me attractive at this size which is why I didn't want to do online dating originally. Now feeling super anxious!

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 25/05/2021 09:25

Ok after a terrible false start yesterday I'm now back on plan and on step 2. I spent the whole morning yesterday in an absolute raging mood which I put down to my period being due. I really wasn't in the right frame of mind so I decided to cut myself some slack for 24 hours. I'd spent the whole weekend eating out so I think my brain was still processing the change.

Got my DH to take some photos of me this morning and it was really eye opening to see how huge I am. I'm 23 Stone 7lbs and I know I'm big but the photos really shocked me. I look like a 5 foot nothing beach ball but in reality I'm 5' 8"!

Started with a pre-made latte (topped up with water) and will have a shake for lunch and a pack of salted caramel bites after my 200cal dinner.

I'm a size 24+ and I got myself a beautiful size 18 jumper and jeans in the sale that I'm aiming to fit in by Christmas (doable at around 1 stone a month). I will not miss badly fitting size 24 clothes!

ramarama · 25/05/2021 11:29

@Gemi33 I completely understand. I ended up revising my profile pics to make sure there was one which was more of a full length photo (a flattering one, but honest) That way I was a little less nervous because they know what they are getting before you meet.

OP posts:
ramarama · 25/05/2021 11:33

@anguauberwaldironfoundersson I say it's good that you didnt' start yesterday. I deliberately waited until after my period as I thought I was setting myself up for failure (also wanted those extra initial couple of pounds to come off more easily to motivate me)

Good luck today. I find the lower carb the extra food or 200cal meal, the easier it is overall to stick to. May just be me
