@TheRealHousewife has given me the honour of starting our new thread so here we go....

I can't work out how to copy her helpful links over but if you go
to thread you can look them up and also read the thread and get a feel for if this is the place for you.

We are a friendly bunch with lots of support, advice, hand holding and no judgement at all.

I am doing Intermittent Fasting and run several times a week. Others are calorie counting and walking lots. All our welcome. Post as little or as much as you want. I didn't post my weight for months and was still fully welcomed and involved.

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo is our star pupil with spreadsheets but we have all done really well and I am proud of each and everyone of you.

Here's to a good month and let's get going.

Well done for what you did do @tostaky even when other things were tough.

I'm sat here listening to the rain. I really want to go running, and I have run in light rain and hail before, but this is a bit more so I will see. No issue getting wet but I am worried about falling.

Ugh I'm so annoyed. Have tickets for a National Trust place this morning and its absolutely chucking it down with rain. We're members so I haven't had to pay much but I was really looking forward to going and having a nice walk to see some bluebells. I suppose we could go anyway but the kids will moan at me the whole time and not sure I can face it! I'm so fed up of having to pre- book absolutely everything and there never being any opportunities for spontaneity. I get so absorbed in work and forget to arrange/book stuff and then when I actually do this happens!
Grump.

Ionacat · 08/05/2021 09:21

I’ve just had my jab and I’m going to see how I feel later, as I’d quite like a run at the moment but fully expecting to feel a bit rubbish. If not the sofa, my crochet and iPad will call!!

Hope the weather improves for all of those wanting to go out.

SunshineCake · 08/05/2021 12:50

Could you get everyone wrapped up with dry clothes and blankets waiting in the car and hot chocolates once home? Tell them my four year old dogGrin went out in the rain and didn't complain!

@Ionacat my advice would be to either go now or wait. I felt awful immediately for nearly four days. DH felt fine until seven hours later and then felt awful for a day.

I did go running. I had to. Ran really well then walked the dog and got even wetter. Just made lunch and banana and currant mini loaf cakes. Going to watch telly for half an hour then do some jobs in the roof.

Have a good day everyone.

Crazzzycat · 08/05/2021 13:10

I agree with Sunshine, go running now @Ionacat, if you feel well enough. For what it’s worth, I didn’t get any side effects apart from a sore arm. If anything, I actually felt a lot more energetic than usual, which lasted about 3 days. So if you feel up to it, just go!

The weather is absolutely awful here, so my sympathies to anyone trying to take small kids (or dogs) out in this. I think I’ll stick to some indoor exercise today.

CocoaMojo · 08/05/2021 14:19

We braved it, got wet/windswept but saw some beautiful bluebells. Also reached my steps target for the day already which is nice. Ought to run but not sure I can be bothered.
May have had a flapjack with my coffee after the walk. It was good though.
@Ionacat congrats on your jab!

SunshineCake · 08/05/2021 15:29

Well done @CocoaMojo. fresh air always does us good even if we hate getting wet and cold!

I had a terrible night’s sleep last night, so wasn’t sure if I’d manage an entire 30 minutes on the cross trainer. After much procrastination I decided to just see how far I’d get.

I was slow, it was hard, but somehow I did make it to the end. I’m feeling pretty good about that 💪

I also ordered some special ear plugs, so that my chances of getting a good night’s sleep are improved. It’s so much easier to resist treats and motivate yourself to exercise when you’re not tired!

SunshineCake · 08/05/2021 19:21

Well done @Crazzzycat. Not only did you not decide to bother you did the whole time! When I struggle I tell myself I can stop anytime or just try and get to the next marker then I'll stop and I'm sure you'll agree with me it feels almost like a bigger achievement when we try and then do the whole thing while feeling like we couldn't.

My weekly weigh in, and I lost 1lb. Kind of pleased, as had been the same for a few weeks, but also wish it had been more. At least it's a step in the right direction. Hoping the rain breaks today, and will take my bike out for an hour.

Terrysmyorange · 09/05/2021 12:00

Morning everyone one, weekly weigh in.
Lost 2lbs
Lost 1 inch off my hips
Lost 1 inch off my waist

Was happily surprised as I've not had a perfect week still having a sugar in coffee and a bit of choc.
But have been weighing all my food, tracking, min 10K steps and 2 HIIT workouts.

SunshineCake · 09/05/2021 12:27

Well done @Reachforthestars00 and @Terrysmyorange. To lose a stone we have to start with a pound. It is all about changing our choices for the long term, not about losing a lot of weight in a minute.

This day a year ago I started couch25km. I struggled to even run two or three minutes. Eventually I got to the point of being able to run for 70 minutes but my km times were slow. Recently my fastest km was 5.30. Today I went running and as I couldn't find dh and ddog I decided to keep running around the field and would stop at 7km. In the end I decided to keep going and ran 8km to celebrate my year. I am consistently running km at six minutes something. Really shocked ans proud.

Ruined it all now by making peanut cookies to celebrate again. Grin.

Weight loss for the year 1stone 8.2lb but I'm claiming more like three stone due to losing the same half stones over and over Grin.

I'm making spaghetti with tuna sauce for lunch. Might have crackers and cheese for dinner or something out of the freezer if I am more hungry.

Hope you are all doing well and please forgive my self indulgence at posting all the above. It means so much as you all know how much I struggled last year.

Have a good day everyone. Still thinking of @HalfShrunkMoreToGo. I miss your insights. Hope you are okay.

Well done @Terrysmyorange and @Reachforthestars00! 👏👏
And please don't apologise for posting your progress @SunshineCake. It's so helpful for newbies like me to feel motivated & inspired & as a reminder that we're playing the long game.
I am loosening up at the weekends a little and allowing myself nice foody things. E.g I had pizza on Friday and have had wine Friday and yesterday. But am trying to compensate for it elsewhere e.g. swapping chips for salad with the pizza and having a v low calorie day on the Friday to make up for it. I think it is working. I know I could lose weight quicker if I was strict at the weekends too but its important to me to feel I can still enjoy the things I like and I know I'll stick at it longer this way.
Just had leftover chicken with tomatoes, courgette and spinach for lunch and dinner will be lentil dahl with some new potatoes and green veg and a yoghurt.

Terrysmyorange · 09/05/2021 13:45

Thanks everyone
@SunshineCake thanks for posting your progress and well done! They are excellent times as well. I can only shuffle at the moment.

SunshineCake · 09/05/2021 15:58

Thank you @CocoaMojo and @Terrysmyorange. You are very kind.

You are absolutely right. We both could have lost more if we were stricter but if we make it too hard we are likely to give up sooner and we all need some foods that are classed as treats. Compensating is brilliant. I kind of do it in that I will walk when before I would have driven and run a bit extra when I have had a treat or want one. For me, running is my payment to buy an ice cream or some chocolate etc. I also eat a lot of salad whereas before it might have been a once a week item and I'll eat it with anything even if it is an odd combination. I especially love some white fish with salad and baked new potatoes.

@Terrysmyorange @Reachforthestars00 well done for your weight loss! However big and small it is going in the right direction!

Had a lovely day with lots of gardening and a short beautiful walk. DP wanted a BBQ tonite so i made my own version of a burger. I have put a tim of jackfruit with some bbq sauce in a stand mixer and cook & mixed for 10 mins and put in low fat bun with a slice of tomato, a bit of red cabbage and a piece of halloumi...perfect! I will do more of that next time!!
Evening was harder with DC1 very tired and low and grumpy... Confused

Talk to me about jackfruit please @tostaky. I have heard if it but know nothing about it. Your sandwich looks and sounds delicious.

Hope your evening picked up.

Morning everyone. Yesterday was spent collapsed on the sofa but I’m feeling so much better this morning. Day off today and DH and I are going out to lunch without the DC and hopefully a walk as well - weather dependent.

Well done to @Terrysmyorange and @Reachforthestars00

@SunshineCake Those times are amazing, I’m very slow still but will aim to keep going.

@tostaky I’ve not tried jackfruit. I do eat mainly veggie (although not entirely because I do like a roast!) so I’m intrigued - does it need plenty of flavour like other veggie substitutes?

SunshineCake · 10/05/2021 11:41

Hello everyone.

Glad you are feeling better today @Ionacat.

Ddog had us up three times in the night so dh and I are feeling wiped out today. I took ds to school and did a very small food shop while dh walked the dog but other than pegging out two wash loads I'm nit planning on doing much else. I feel very sick, weak and had a panic attack. Didn't run and will take tomorrow off too.

Day of annual leave - long walk and a pub lunch without the DC which was lovely. The pub did mini desserts with coffee which was really nice.

How are you doing @SunshineCake? Did you manage to get some rest? Panic attacks are horrible.

SunshineCake · 10/05/2021 19:51

That sounds so lovely, @Ionacat.

Thankfully it didn't last long as I was able to drop the shopping in and then go and look for dh and DDog. Dog came running towards me for a cuddle and that always helps. Haven't done much as so tired after being up three times. Dh and I are counting the hours until we can go to sleep!

I'm off again after the weekend.
I have missed lots of days posting so I'm committing to posting everyday. I am sorry @SunshineCake
If you look at what is causing this situation is there anything you can change to make you feel more in control again? Is it because of your DS's grades? Will he lose a Uni place he has?

Crazzzycat · 11/05/2021 10:02

Morning all! I hope you’re feeling a bit better today @SunshineCake. Panic attacks are horrible things to have to deal with. Do you have any idea of what’s causing them, or do they generally come totally out of the blue?

I used to suffer terribly with panic attacks. I struggled to even get out of the house and had six months off work. For me, there were two things that were key to dealing with them. The first was identifying what triggered them (which I appreciate isn’t always that clear cut) and the second, weirdly, was accepting that these panic attacks were happening & telling myself that while they were horrible I managed to cope with them before and would be able to continue to do so if necessary. I found my FitBit incredibly helpful, because while I could feel my heart racing and thought I was about to collapse, the FitBit would reassure me that my heart rate wasn’t actually much higher than if I were doing some intense exercise. I don’t worry about collapsing when running up a hill, so no need for me to worry about that in the middle of a panic attack.

Apologies for derailing this thread, but I just wanted to share this in case it’s any help. I’ve not had a panic attack for years now, I appreciate I’m incredibly lucky to have found ways to manage them, but it shows there is some hope for fellow sufferers

Back to weightloss.,.I weighed myself yesterday and there’s a decent loss. I’ve decided not to post exact stats as I feel I’m getting a bit too focussed on stats at the moment. Last week I was starting to feel depressed at how much more I have to loose, whereas I want to focus on all the positive changes I’ve already made and the progress I’m already seeing! I ordered myself some new clothes over the weekend. They’re a size smaller than my usual size. If they fit, which I think they might do by now, that would no doubt give me a huge boost 👊

Apologies for the length of this essay!
