Hi candy sorry to hear it hasn't worked for you - what dose were you on and how long had you been on it for?

ItsNotMeOfficer · 20/05/2021 18:53

@HowlingGale

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone had considered using Ozempic instead of Saxenda? it's a weekly injection which would be preferable to daily, but not sure about its efficacy/side effects compared to Saxenda. Has anyone any experience of this, or done any research into it? I know that Saxenda has been licensed as a weight loss drug while Ozempic has not, (It's currently only licensed for managing Diabetes) but there are some online pharmacies/clinics which are offering it off licence as a weight loss aid such as this company: my-bmi.co.uk/treatment-plan. Anyone know any more about it? Thanks!
Interested to know! The Daily Mail link someone posted up thread was in relation to Ozempic rather than Saxenda

Only a week - 0.6 for the first week but by the weekend I felt like I was coming down with the flu😭. My stomach got so bad I had to ask the gp to prescribe omeprazole 😭😭
Pinkdelight3 · 21/05/2021 10:34

@HowlingGale just hopping on here as I'm on week 6 of Ozempic - been lurking here, but not posted before as not strictly Saxenda, but v similar from the sounds of it. Easier only having the weekly jab and no element of the variation that seems to happen with Saxenda, upping and downing the dose. I just did 0.5 for first month/pen then up to 1.0 for this month. I guess because it's off-label there's more wariness so you'd have to read up on the risks and be comfortable with opting for it over the more accepted solution. Otherwise I don't think there's much difference in effects and efficacy. I've lost 1.2 stones so far and only had mild side effects. It's fine as long as I stick to 1200 cals and don't eat anything fatty, which is the last thing I need anyway! Of course, if you had bad side effects you'd have to wait a week for it to leave your system. On the other hand, there's no sense of the effects wearing off which seems more of a factor for some people on here, having to manage what time they're taking it each day etc.

I only heard about Ozempic through a thread on a different part of this forum and am so glad I did as I've been struggling to reset my eating habits for years now and tried so many other methods. Only planning to do it for three months and then hopefully will have reduced my appetite and got into healthier habits so can lose the last bit naturally. We'll see...

HowlingGale · 21/05/2021 11:01

Hi Pinkdelight3 thanks for the info, very interesting. I am quite tempted to switch to Ozempic as I find the daily jabs a bit of a pain - not literally, but just something else to remember to do!

Do you mind telling us where you obtained it from and how much you paid? Thank you!

lostitall · 21/05/2021 12:09

Started saxenda Sunday this week. Can def feel a drop in appetite however the fatigue is debilitating I'm struggling to even get out of bed today- did anyone else experience this in the first days?

Pinkdelight3 · 21/05/2021 12:14

Yeah, I'd find the daily jabs a faff too, and it's nice to forget about it and not be so aware of appetite. I got mine from here for a just under £200 - thevirtualslimmingclinic.co.uk/

andadietcoke · 22/05/2021 09:45

@lostitall I was more tired for the first few weeks but not to that extent. What time are you injecting? You could try switching to nighttime and see if that helps?

SandandFog · 25/05/2021 11:37

Hello, I have ordered this ready to start later in the week, I'm quite nervous and I know my partner won't be happy when he sees it. He doesn't understand though, I've had a lifelong battle with my weight (currently about 8 stone overweight) and he's never dieted a day.

Anyway, I know I have some problems with food and overeating. I overeat, verging on binging to times.

What I wanted to know is Saxenda likely to help when I eat when not hungry? So many of the reviews say that it curbs hunger but my problem is overeating despite not being hungry, especially at night.

HowlingGale · 25/05/2021 11:57

Hi sandandfog yes I find that saxenda does help with non hunger eating. This used to be my problem too - always in the evening and always sweet or high carb foods. Now I seem satisfied with either Greek yoghurt and fruit or the occasional small snack such as a small bar of
Chocolate or ice lolly. I can just stop at the one now rather than feeling compelled to scoff 10 biscuits at once!! Good luck anyway hope it works for you.

andadietcoke · 25/05/2021 12:10

It's really helped me with binge eating. I don't snack any more either. I can have a 100 calorie snickers bar and feel happy with that. Or two biscuits without eating the whole pack.

FinaleyDee · 26/05/2021 08:58

How is everyone doing? I managed 3 days on saxenda before quitting 😂
But for those 3 days WOW my appetite had gone! I normally eat/think about food all day but that completely stopped - I almost had to force myself to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I stuck to 3 healthy meals and fruit for snacks each day - none of my usual takeaways and constant chocolate binges.
The only reason I stopped was because I freaked out about taking the jab! I’ve never been good with needles and it took me half hour to get the courage to do the first jab, ridiculous I know. Then once I’d had the jab all I could think about were all the possible negative side effects and it freaked me out!
I didn’t have bad side effects, felt a bit like really bad morning sickness on the first morning (I did my jabs in the evening) for a couple of hours then it passed and out of nowhere I was almost hyper at work and got so much done (usually unheard of 😂). Other than that I felt just a bit ‘not quite right’ but it’s hard to explain what I mean by that.
I did have quite a dull ache in my lower back that worried me a bit and I’m not normally a worrier, I just couldn’t help it!
I also didn’t tell my partner I was taking the jab so I was having to be very secretive about hiding the pen in the fridge and the needles in the cupboard so that put me off too.
I have 2 stone to lose and have started seeing a personal trainer and reducing my calorie intake so I thought I should really give that a go first before resorting to the jab.
I kinda do miss it already - I think I read that it stays in your system for 3 days and low and behold, 4 days after I stopped taking it I woke up absolutely ravenous and it lasted all day, along with complete exhaustion!!
I may return to it again another day when I stop panicking about it 😂
I hope you’re all still doing really well and feeling ok, and I hope everyone will still post their progress because I’ve loved reading how well it’s working for you!!

Pinkdelight3 · 26/05/2021 10:13

That's a real shame about the needles and panics. Sounds like it was working great for you otherwise. But know that our thoughts can be as hard to control as our eating, so it's wise to put it aside at least for now. Must say, I'm dreading that ravenousness raging back in when I come off it. Hoping that having done a few months of small portions/healthy eating, my appetite will have reduced anyway so the bad habits will be broken and the hunger will be less even without the jabs. That's what I'm clinging to anyway!

FinaleyDee · 26/05/2021 10:17

Isn’t it! For the few days I did, I felt like ‘this was it’ and I was going to conquer my overeating once and for all, it really gave me a buzz of excitement!
I think you are right though, if you’ve been on it a while you will have certainly made a lot of good habits for the future/when you stop taking it.
The most amazing thing for me was the never feeling hungry - I even went out for dinner and had a starter and a main, I couldn’t even finish the main (I normally finish mine and pick at my partners leftovers) and I had no room for pudding. Normally a 3 course meal is easy to put away and I still want more 😂🤦

Pinkdelight3 · 26/05/2021 10:49

Yeah, it's remarkable. I was out with a friend in a coffee shop and there were so many cakes that I'd normally find irresistible and I couldn't even contemplate eating one. And the thought that anything too heavy makes me feel a bit ill is a great deterrent. Normally I'd push on through the feeling of being full and keep stuffing my face, but now I stop when I'm done, no problem. It's so freeing. But feels like there'll be a price to pay one way or another (as well as the literal price of it, which isn't cheap!), whether it's side effects or after effects or something. There is a sense of too-good-to-be-true. But then I was so unhealthy before that it's worthwhile just to break out of that spiral.

HmmmHashtag · 27/05/2021 07:38

WHAT WITCH-CRAFTERY IS THIS! I've lost 6lb since Saturday Shock and I've still been eating, including carbs! Plus I've had a few gins.
I'm definitely eating less but not feeling deprived at all... I'm completely staggered by that loss!

andadietcoke · 27/05/2021 07:40

Yay @HmmmHashtag well done! It's bizarre isn't it?

HmmmHashtag · 27/05/2021 07:53

@andadietcoke

Yay *@HmmmHashtag* well done! It's bizarre isn't it?
Yep, especially as yesterday I felt starving all morning til about 1pm and I grazed my way through! Maybe it's because I'm eating little and often rather than the usual starve then eat a huge meal??

Also, I've noticed that a glass of Kombucha really helps with the nausea 👌🏼

Notnastypasty · 27/05/2021 08:07

I’m starting today, hope you don’t mind me joining this thread! It’s exciting to hear about everyone’s losses. I was going to start whatever time my package arrives, is that ok? I’m seeing that everyone does different times of day.

HowlingGale · 27/05/2021 09:09

Notnastypasty I don't think it makes much difference as to the timing of your dose. I take it around 9-10am, as I read somewhere that the dose reaches maximum impact 11 hours after jabbing, and as I find evenings most difficult in terms of controlling overeating I thought that it would be best for the peak impact to be at play around 8pm/9pm at night. No idea if that is correct or not, but I have to say I find it far easier to control urges to overeat now.

Hmmhashtag great loss, well done! I am losing far more slowly than most of you - averaging 1.5lbs a week, but I am not starving myself (probably eating around 1700 cals a day) and it is a sustainable regime, so am committed to sticking it out. I tell myself that in 12 weeks time I will have lost another 18lbs, which is a damn sight better than staying the same, or even worse, gaining weight! Slightly in denial about the cost factor, but reckon it's probably worth it!!

HmmmHashtag · 27/05/2021 09:16

@HowlingGale a loss is a loss, you're doing brilliantly!

With regards to time, I wake up hungry so I'm playing around with timing so that I'm not over eating in the evening but I also don't wake up ravenous, I tried 12.30pm yesterday and was better this morning, might push to 1pm today.

HowlingGale · 27/05/2021 09:23

hmmmHashtag i wake up hungry in the morning too, but that's ok because I am usually really busy first thing with work and can plough on with just a coffee to keep me going. Much easier to cope with hunger in the morning than the evening in my book! Sometimes I don't eat until 2pm which I prefer because I can have a decent lunch - often a bowl of home made soup, one slice of toast, maybe a bit of grated cheddar on top, followed by some fruit, then I have my dinner at around 7pm and the Saxenda seems to stop me endlessly grazing afterwards, which I used to do. So I've found that having been on saxenda for 12 weeks now, (still on 1.8 dose) that it doesn't eradicate my hunger entirely, but it makes it far more manageable, and stops any binge eating. Maybe if you crank up to the full 3 dose then hunger is wiped out entirely, but it seems to be working for me on the lower dose and I'd rather stick to this, for cost reasons if nothing else!!

HmmmHashtag · 27/05/2021 09:28

@HowlingGale that makes complete sense, yes. You've got to find what works for you!
I get up really early around 5am so to not be hungry til 10am is a revelation 🤣

HowlingGale · 27/05/2021 09:43

Gosh if I had to get up so early I'm not sure i could last until lunchtime without eating! I guess you must go to bed quite early then thereby minimising evening snacking!!
