I have looked into getting saxenda prescribed but I think it very much depends on the health authority where you live. Where I live you must have a BMI of 40 plus to qualify so that rules me out sadly (not that I would want to be any bloody fatter than I am already!) but does seem somewhat short sighted if the NHS given the financial burden put on it by obesity related illnesses

Kaftankween · 28/03/2021 12:36

Yes and I think some GPs will prescribe but others will say only weight management clinics can prescribe and then you'd have to wait for a referral. I'm going to try anyway. I'll let you know how I get on!

Wagsandclaws · 28/03/2021 15:50

Weight management clinics can prescribe immediately. You don't need a refferal.

My Dh has a bmi of 35 and is paying monthly ( though a weight management clinic ) for what I'm taking ( mine is free on the nhs because it's being used primarily to being down my high blood sugar levels )

I doubled my dose today and feel a little sick, seems to be working on the appetite though.

I'm on a Sandexa/Ozempic Facebook group and there is some quite useful advice on there.

Only in the last few days have I felt my appetite decrease enough to start calorie counting so my first weigh in will be this coming Friday. I'm really hoping for a good initial loss 🤞

BJHair · 28/03/2021 20:19

@ Wagsandclaws
That’s interesting I’m also on Ozempic
And I’ve lost 11lbs in just over a month

If I lose another 8lbs I will be on a BMI that’s 24
I literally don’t have any appetite it’s really weird
This month I’m going to take it every other week and see how that works
I had saxenda ages ago and it made me feel sick although I lost a bit of weight
My dads on it and he’s lost 3 stone and kept it off since stopping it

Chrissols · 29/03/2021 12:52

I have just asked my GP if they will prescribe, still waiting for them to get back to me, but am not holding out much hope.

Chrissols · 29/03/2021 16:02

My surgery say they are unable to prescribe at present 😥😥

Kaftankween · 29/03/2021 16:27

Still waiting to hear from mine.

Chrissols · 29/03/2021 16:48

@Kaftankween fingers crossed for you, I didn't get any explanation, just that they can't prescribe

Wagsandclaws · 29/03/2021 17:29

@BJHair that's amazing well done!

Sounds like you didn't have loads to lose in the first place.

I won't lie I feel bloody atrocious , sulphur burps and tired - you are right though my appetite has left the building .

When I get to 24/25 bmi I will still most likely have to take it as I'm hopi g it will bring my blood sugars back down to normal.

I've never been able to stick to 1000/1200 calories a day before because I was just so hungry and thinking. About food all of the time. It's been a miracle drug for that but I hope I start to feel better soon. Some people get no side effects but I have ibs anyway so it was alway going to screw with that a little I think.

@Chrissols I'm sorry to read that, I think as more evidence comes out about how much it helps people in their weight loss battle the more it will be in the NHS's favour to prescribe it. It's a lot more effective than say Alli. I don't know if you are able to afford it privately for maybe a couple of months?

@Kaftankween fingers crossed for you 🤞.

Chrissols · 30/03/2021 17:07

@Kaftankween I am going to get another month's supply and see how it goes, if I am seeing a difference then it will be worth it, but if I only lose a minimal amount then I would have to have a rethink as it is very expensive

picklemewalnuts · 30/03/2021 17:16

What is the end result, I mean obviously weight loss, but how to you end it? Do you taper? Do you put weight back on because your appetite comes back with a vengeance?

Has anyone been on long enough to get to target?

Chrissols · 30/03/2021 17:33

The end result for me would be feeling confident in a swimsuit on my holiday in October

Mumsnut · 31/03/2021 07:33

I went up a dose and the side effects went crazy, unbearably so.

I am seriously rethinking this

HowlingGale · 31/03/2021 09:07

mumsnut what dose have you gone up to and how long were you on the lower dose for? Hope you feel better!

Chrissols · 31/03/2021 09:26

I’m due to go up to 2.4 tomorrow, not looking forward to it, but have to as getting checked weekly at pharmacy

Mumsnut · 31/03/2021 09:50

I went up from o.6 to 1.2 with no trouble, then up to about 1.5 after a week (cautious) then 1.8 after another week. I had occasionally been uncomfortable on 1.5, but 1.8 resulted in diarrhoea, vomiting, pain, sulphur burps, shivering ....

Chrissols · 31/03/2021 10:22

@Mumsnut the only symptom I have had on 1.8 are the horrible sulphur burps for three days, but nothing now, not even much of a decreased appetite, so hopefully 2.4 will do the trick

Sentry70 · 31/03/2021 10:25

I've had the same trouble going from 0.6 to 1.2. Week on 0.6 no problem, 2 days on 1.2 no problem and I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones who had no side effects. No such luck though - on the 3rd dose of 1.2 I had awful sulphur burps and then a night of painful stomach aches ending in a bout of vomiting. Just couldn't face it yesterday so had a day off the injection and have gone back on today at 0.6. I read elsewhere of someone staying on the lowest dose as it worked for them. I've lost 7 pounds so far, but haven't weighed after being ill, as I know it'll show a dip that will only rise once I've replaced the fluids lost. If my appetite remains controlled at 0.6 I think I'll stay there until it stops working an then work up slowly to 1.2 again.

Stepharoo78 · 31/03/2021 11:35

I'm up to 2.4 now. I guess the one thing is that I'll take it very easy today as my tummy cramps are worse if I eat fatty food.

Planning on a salad for lunch and then roasted veg for dinner.

Haven't weighed myself recently so hoping for a nice surprise on Monday when I do. Got back to the gym this week as well so I've been spinning every day. Can't face being this fat when everyone is out in their gorgeous summer clothes :-(

Mumsnut · 31/03/2021 11:36

I had had half a bottle of wine in the garden with a friend. I wonder if that was a trigger? I’ve drunk virtually no alcohol since starting g the jabs, but the other episode of nausea and discomfort I had was also after drinking wine. I wasn’t conscious of over-eating on either occasion but I did eat more than usual

Stepharoo78 · 31/03/2021 11:36

@picklemewalnuts I'm interested in that too. I'm worried that my appetite will go out of control and I'll put it all back on

Mumsnut · 31/03/2021 11:37

So: eating too much, alcohol, a combination thereof .... or just a bigger dose!

Kaftankween · 31/03/2021 11:53

Heard from my GP re prescription - it's a no.

Chrissols · 31/03/2021 12:03

@Kaftankween same as mine, I didn't get an explanation why though, did you?

Kaftankween · 31/03/2021 12:09

@chrissols They said it could only be prescribed through a tier 4 weight loss service (not even tier 3) which requires obesity with additional complications (such as pre diabetes or heart disease).

I'm not even sure they're correct on that so I'm going to do some more research. Either way this won't be a quick result and I'm going to have to keep on buying.
