Anyone keen for a 6 week challenge?

I do well with shorter goals and am hoping to focus on shifting some weight and being more active.

Anyone else care to join and see how much weight we can shift (sensibly!) in the next 6 weeks?

People are welcome to join anytime, I personally will be counting from Monday 7th until March 22nd. I was hit pretty hard by lockdown and am the biggest I’ve ever been... I’ve already managed to shift a little bit of weight, now looking to tackle my long term eating habits and sedentary lifestyle in the coming period.

I’ll be sticking to the following :

  1. No snacking.
  2. 5 fruit/veg per day, protein source at every meal.
  3. Trying to hit 10,000 steps a day.

Other than that, I’m not following any diet in particular, I’m trying to change my habits for the long haul. And of course, being comfortable in summer will be an added bonus!

In these 6 weeks, I’m hoping to shift 8-9 pounds, as well as losing a couple of inches off my belly and bum.

Any takers?

Today’s been a really nice day. Hiit this morning then I was out for a proper long walk in the freezing sun. We’ve had a naughty but very delicious hello fresh meal for dinner. Plus dh bought enormous ciabatta rolls for lunch. And now there’s a very nice can of IPA open. There might be popcorn later.

I’ve been sitting about 1.5kg below my recent diet target weight and today is the sort of day the buffer is there for. Happy Friday to everyone.

The mood journal is a great idea @ElvenDreamer. I keep meaning to fill in some sort of journal/ diary - it really does help - but between small grumpy DC, homeschooling and trying not to let the house turn into a tip, I just don't get round to it! Maybe next week, when I can abandon the homeschooling for a bit with a clear conscience...

I'd love to do a proper long walk in the cold @PurpleDaisies. The problem is that the DC don't go quickly enough to keep us all warm, so we end up abandoning our travels too soon! They were going out on scooters/ bikes, which was easier, but now we can't really do that because of all the ice around.

Batch cooking is really useful isn't it @LostPencilSOS? I'm trying to make better use of the freezer by putting spare portions in there straight away, for the many days when I can't be bothered to cook. Plus it encourages me to use up the contents of the weekly veg box!

Can i jump in too? I have 20kg to lose to be back at my ideal weight. I need to stop overeating as a first point of call. And move more!

My plans are:

  1. eat sensible portions and snack on nuts and fruit/veg
  2. walk the pup every day
  3. do one of the go with yoyo videos with my girls 3 days a week
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/02/2021 10:16

Welcome @QueenOfCatan, we have about the same to lose!!

Do you have a new puppy? My DC are desperate for a puppy/ dog but I keep warning them that dogs are a lot of work and NEED walking - at the moment they're reluctant to go out at all as it's so cold! I love dogs, but know that the DC are only little and lose interest in things quickly, and I know who would be stuck with all the walking/ training/ picking up poo Confused the DC are hard enough work for me at the moment...

I'll have a look at those videos to help them work off some energy; they like Go Noodle too and occasionally a bit of yoga, plus Joe Wicks a couple of days a week!

That’s brilliant, well done!

@RunnyPaint I’m in Haute Savoie, in France! We’re having a cold snap!

Oh well done everyone, brilliant results! It’s so motivating to see your hard work pay off! I’ll weight in on Monday, but I’ve not had a brilliant week so not expecting dramatic losses. It’s a lot harder to avoid snacking and to eat clean when I’m out of my routine. But no excuses, I e just got to try and stay as on track as I can - I’ve already been for a big walk this morning, so I’ve almost made it to 10,000 steps.

@QueenOfCatan come on in ! Those sound like sensible, realistic goals!
And lovely to have a pup to motivate you!

Readette · 13/02/2021 14:06

Hey - can I join too! Motivated by your posts and it’s exactly what I need. Feeling sluggish & fed up & need a boost which I know eating well, doing exercise & loosing a few pounds will help with. Plan is to have a kick start now up to Easter - coincides with my daughter being able to go back to nursery too which will help.
Going to step on scales Monday morning - dreading it!! Then want to be under 11st by Easter - probably about 7lbs ish to loose. Want my DH to try doing it with me too - otherwise he just ends up buying crap that I eat!!
Plan is to aim for 1300 cal and combination of 10,000 steps, running & online HIIT or strength workout. I know first week will be ok buts it’s going to be sticking to it I have a problem with!! Great to hear what works for others too.

Fembot123 · 13/02/2021 17:11

Digital scales winging their way to me as the mechanical ones are a little erm..mental 😂

QueenOfCatan · 13/02/2021 17:14

@ClaraTheImposibleGirl Glad to know I'm not the only one needing to loose 20-odd-kg!

We got our German Shepard puppy in the October half term, she's just 5 months now so we're at 2*30ish minute walks a day, sometimes 3 shorter ones. DH has been doing the majority of them but I really need to take over one of them each day! We can't take the puppy out with our kids (4 and 21mo) as she tries to herd them Grin Slowly but surely training her on that one! She's okay at home but as soon as we're on a walk she has to herd!

I've heard of Go Noodle, I'll have to look it up, we used to do a lot of cosmic kids but 4yo would wander off after 15mins, she seems to prefer the faster pace of Yoyo at the moment.

ChonkyChook · 13/02/2021 18:14

Grapefruit for breakfast, cashew nuts midday.
Fried chicken for dinner 😁 I'm not even sorry. Avoided the chips.

10k steps and a thigh workout.
It'll be fiiiiiiiiine.

It will be fine, sounds 😋🤤
NoNameNellie · 13/02/2021 19:16

@ChonkyChook yuuummm 🤤 sounds amazing!

Toast and ham for breakfast, leftover casserole for lunch and now going to have spag bol for dinner. Will go easy on the pasta and double up on the veg... on the bright side, I walked nearly 20,000 steps today!

Oh lovely, a cute pup for you @QueenOfCatan! Is it harder at the moment with no puppy socialisation classes? (Or at least there aren't where we are!). My DC are 5 now but I think we'd have to make our garden a lot more secure before getting a dog or puppy. Plus persuade DCat that it's a good idea Grin

@Fembot123 I bought my digital scales a few years ago - Argos I think - as I found it too easy to cheat with the manual ones and get the needle to wobble to the favourable side!!

I'm in awe at your step count @NoNameNellie Shock

NoNameNellie · 13/02/2021 21:43

@Readette welcome! Don’t worry about the scales, it can be a little hard to face, but it’s just a number, and then you can do something about it!

@Fembot123 I have digital scales but I think they’re on the way out... I weigh different amounts based on where I stand in the bathroom! So annoying...

Checking in as first replied on a Sunday.

Sunday 7th- 13st 12lbs
Sunday 14th - 13st 10.5lbs

1.5lbs down which is good but bit disappointed because I weigh daily and for the last 3 days I've been 13st 8.5lbs. I haven't strayed from my plan at all 🙄 oh well as long as its going down.

Also my husband just saw my weight when I weighed myself (I usually hide it from him because I'm embarrassed!!). He is being absolutely fine and lovely about it but I'm mortified. That probably says more about my own insecurities than anything else but hey ho!

NoNameNellie · 14/02/2021 09:04

@clto2021 that’s a great effort! Slowly and surely wins the race! It will come off, but I understand the frustration and the impatience. We’ll get there!

And don’t worry about your DH seeing your weight - lovely that he’s so supportive. Mine is too, very reassuring and tells me how much he loves me as I am. But I do I understand - I don’t exactly share my weight with mine either!

The day is off to a lazy start here, just about to grab some toast here, then we’re talking the DC off for a hike in the mountains. Should hopefully burn some calories!

I had a not great day yesterday. Not total disaster but pretty crap. Today will be better though.

Thank you. I have lost over a stone since the new year and am really trying to stay on track. I know in the logical part of my brain that weight fluctuates and not to read to much into it but still hard to see the scales go up. Still got over 3 and a half stone to go so I know it's not a quick fix. Just need to stay motivated. Thanks for your support xxx

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 10:31

Digital scales arrived and as I feared I’m heavier than the mechanical ones said so my new start point is 10’13 so I must have been over 11 stone as I know I’ve lost some weight. A frustrating setback and it’s making me want to stuff my face because what’s the point.

CarlottaValdez · 14/02/2021 10:32

Oh no! This is my fear, I think my scales are on the way out but I’m terrified to replace them in case mine are weighing under.

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 10:37

It’s been a blow but I need to dust myself off and start again, I just have a history of disordered eating and if I start to feel disgusted with myself I feel the need to punish that ifyswim

QueenOfCatan · 14/02/2021 10:38

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl Very much harder without the classes! We purposely waited until the first lockdown was over to find a puppy, then picked her up just before the November one, we get her to the nearby park to meet other dogs daily but I would have liked to attend puppy classes for some advice on the basics rather than relying on Zak George on youtube! I would definitely recommend securing the garden, we have a low fence on one side, thought it would be fine for 6 months or so, I reckon she could jump it if she wanted to easily! Whoops.

Yesterday was a carby day for me, crumpets for breakfast, toast for lunch and a whole lidl posh pizza for dinner. Though snacked on cashews and an apple so brownie points, right? Grin And I took pup for her afternoon walk.

This morning I did the go with yoyo videos with my girls who insisted on doing two, but they were both around 7-9 minutes so not too lethal.

Can anybody recommend some HIIT classes on youtube? I haven't thoroughly managed to read the thread but have seen it mentioned a few times!
