I have just discovered I've gone into the obese category. I am starting today doing something I have tried before and found great. I need something I can stick to longterm and which will improve my eating habits as well, so that when I do hopefully lose the weight, I can keep it off.

It is called the No S Diet.

Rules are:

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on days beginning with S! Sounds twee and gimmicky, but I swear it works if I stick to it.

Starting weight - 200 lbs
Height - 5'8"
BMI - 30.3 (obese category Blush)

I will also be taking up more exercise. Not going at it hell for leather like I always do, which never works as I can't do that anymore. So, slow and steady with exercise too.

Would love some slow and steady weight loss / healthy living buddies!

Well done why. That is very motivating and a great way to start the week.

After a pretty good day food wise yesterday I was v grumpy in the evening. Again, the no snacking watching the TV. I SO nearly gave in, but I didn't.

Very interesting to begin to see a pattern with what and when are my big triggers for snacking, sugar and generally over-eating.

I have also mentally just filled a shopping basked up of all I HAVEN'T eaten & drunk over the last week - really quite shocking in terms of sugar and calorie content, utter crap nutritionally, and all totally unnecessary in my diet for the week.

I just really hope that I can properly shift my mindset, bad habits, and emotional eating. Sorry if too heavy for a monday morning but this is all occupying quite a bit of my headspace at the moment. I want to get to the stage where it doesn't Grin

Whynow2020 · 22/02/2021 12:39

Just had a really delicious lunch- spinach leaves, rocket, grilled halloumi, avocado, cherry tomatoes, spring onion, grilled courgette with a sprinkling of chilli oil and a satsuma afterwards. It was yummy and I feel satisfied without being bloated or over full.

Breakfast was Greek yoghurt with berries abs walnuts. Dinner will be lentil and spinach dhal. Bring it on!

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 12:44

Oh, I'm heading to the shops and adding halloumi to my shopping list! Yum.

I had scrambled eggs on wholegrain toast, with a banana for breakfast. I had breakfast late, so I'll have lunch late too, so I can have dinner late-ish and hopefully not feel like snacking before bed!

What do you think of soft drinks. I bought a 'tropic aloe' from the shops which seems quite healthy but actually tastes sweet had 4.5g sugar per 100ml. Do you think it counts as a sweet or a snack? Aka, although I've already drunk some at lunch should I put it away till the weekend or next mealtime?

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 13:09

I think, as long as you aren't drinking loads of it or having it every day, soft drinks are fine. Excluding full sugar coke or other fizzy drinks and also excluding milkshakes or those massive cream topped, sugary frappes from Starbucks etc, I think most drinks are fine.

The book has a hierarchy of drinks, from best to worst and fruit juice is on there, as are diet drinks. Not recommended, but alright basically. Fruit juice he puts somewhere in the middle I think and whole milk he puts near the top (best) as it is filling, low sugar etc. Water is better obviously or tea or something. I'll see if I can find it.

That doesn't include fruit juice or milk though, which I think the book does...will look it up later!

So so hungry today. I was good this morning and moved a cookie I found in my work area to the main staffroom. I ate one yesterday as I was working on an s day and know it's tasty. I've had no eggs or porridge today, instead a slightly sugary breakfast cereal and it's just not set me up. I'm having my instant noodles at 5, not waiting until I go home.

Bramblecrumble · 22/02/2021 16:13

Thanks Henrietta. Reading that I will stick to water as I have no issues drinking water and know in my heart the aloe drink tastes sweet so in the spirit of no s I will save the rest for the weekend

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 16:16

Oh that's tough Bramble! Yes, I really notice the difference if I have eggs or porridge. Definitely keeps me going. Not long now till you can have your next meal Brew.

Today has been:

B: scrambled eggs on wholegrain toast, banana
L: open sandwiches on sourdough slices; two small cream cheese and smoked salmon, one slightly bigger with goats cheese, toasted nuts and honey, loads of carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes and a few grapes on the side
D: planning fish fingers, mashed potatoes and veg

I'm going ok. Not hungry, but maybe my lunch was too big... but it did fit easily on the plate and most of the plate was fruit and veg, so maybe not!

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 19:42

Hit a bit of a mini wall this afternoon. Not hungry, but a bit fed up I think. Had a Brew, made dinner and felt a lot better, even though 3yo kept nicking my fish fingers. So actually, maybe it was hunger afterall 🤔. Anyway, I feel fine now.

No snacking. Stuck to my meal plan already listed. Feel like I'm on the home stretch to bedtime now.

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

I am going to start colouring in my days in a diary. One colour for No S Days where I did what I was supposed to, another for No S Days where I didn't do what I was supposed to, and another colour for planned S Days. It's meant to be a good incentive. A little emotional reward every day iyswim.

I’m trying to work to distract myself but the bloody system is down! Had spinach and lentil dhal for dinner with rice and a little bit of naan...should be full but somehow I’m not!

eltsihT · 22/02/2021 20:33

So, I have had a bit of a weekend! DH decided to fix the running toilet. As a result we ended up with no running water. We eventually managed to get a plumber to come out this morning and fix the toilet and broken stop cock. But he arrived during lunch after having been to the store to pick up the parts.

So B: 2 scotch pancakes and butter (DS 2 was back at school and we always have pancakes for special days)
L: feta and red pepper quiche (an apple and crisps which I ate later after the Plummer left so I suppose technically a snack)
D Steak and oven chips with carrot/asparagus/onion/red pepper/sugarsnap peas stir fry. Again DS2 didn’t want his veg so I ate half of them.

Also had half a bottle of red wine as you know steak.

Anyway roll on tomorrow. I have to go into work to collect my PCR kit and new laptop.

The list of drinks was really interesting H, I have spent the last 2/3 year quitting fizzy drinks abs can now enjoy a glass of water which I never thought I would...

Well done leaving the cookie buzz, it’s all about small steps and analysing where you can fix things.

goingpearshaped · 22/02/2021 20:41

Started out well today but a minor blip. Annoyed with myself as the firts day but onwards. Thanks for the welcome.

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 20:44

Oh no @eltsihT! What a nightmare! Hope it's all ok now? I'm sure your DH is suitably sheepish, but fair play to him for trying!

OP posts:
HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 20:47

Not to worry @goingpearshaped! It sounds easy doesn't it, but in practice, it can actually be really hard to break the snack habit! I swear it gets easier (iirc). It does feel a little easier already this time, although I am definitely having my moments too!

Making some herbal tea thing with turmeric now and before I know it, it'll be bedtime. I'm actually fine now and don't want a snack at the mo. Seems to be between lunch and dinner I struggle the most.

LittleDoritt · 22/02/2021 20:47

I'm waiting on the shopping to be delivered and I'm so hungry I could eat my own arm Grin

Amazing weigh in WhyNow, well done! And well done on the workout Hen. Both your lunches sound absolutely delish.

Glad your toilet is fixed Elt!

Fine day for me, although ravenous now.
B: Youghurt and raspberries with a Nutrigrain
L: Vegetable soup with a ham and cheese roll
D: Whatever I can rip open first from the shopping Blush

No food in the house, so no snacks eaten! But actually, didn't feel the lack of them today. Babysteps forward!

runlift · 22/02/2021 21:53

Can I join? This lockdown is doing my weight no favours. I've put in around 7-10 pounds this year and I was meant to be losing weight! My birthday is in the summer and I would really like to be fitting my clothes again by then. I'm 5ft 5, 192lb.

No s with the fast rules is better for me; as I really struggle with self control and having one. I am better at having none, though still a struggle to stick to it. One thing i need to do is get to bed earlier as the mindless late night comfort eating is not a good look.

HenriettaHeffalump · 22/02/2021 22:05

LittleD, I hope your shopping arrived! Imagining update with

B: ...
L: ...
D: own arm

Grin

But, I hope not!

Welcome @runlift Smile! Yes, the snacking struggle is very real! Evenings used to be a problem for me too, but actually, that hasn't been a problem since I started this time. It's the afternoons which seem to get me, even if I have a late lunch.

I've managed to stick to it today, but not joyfully I must admit. Feeling a bit grumpy and not sure why. Oh well. Off to bed now with my book. Hope I wake up a bit jollier, (not a euphemism for fatter thank you please), tomorrow. Night all!

Grin Grin Grin
Fear not, the shopping arrived, I had a flatbread with goats cheese and tomatoes, and both arms are intact!

Ordered hot cross buns before I started on this so have stashed those in the freezer for the weekend. They're are not the S-iest of S foods, but prob not in the spirit of the thing.

Welcome run!

Bramblecrumble · 23/02/2021 06:48

Morning, welcome run. I'm not sure what you met by fast no s, but the s days are important to give yourself a little treat and form good long term relationship with food.
Meals yesterday
Breakfast:7;00 sugary cereal breakfast with pear (boo)
Lunch:1200 bbbq sausage wrap (2 sausages) with salad, a packet of mini cheaders and an apple.
Tea:5:00 a packet of instant Maggi noodles and a banana and peanut smoothie, which tasted gross, as too healthy and not sweet but I was hungry.

Todays plan
Breakfast:now: large bowl of porrige with a half spoonful of peanut butter
Lunch:1:00 egg and cheese muffin (provided by work most of the pandemic as a second breakfast for me) apple and mini cheddars
Tea: leftover chicken pesto pasta. I've just portioned it off rather than taking the whole tub, which I probably could have managed but ice-cream tubs carry a deceptively large amount.

Bramblecrumble · 23/02/2021 06:55

Yesterday I was hungry as I was in the same dull department all day 8-8. Today I'm in an interesting area until 5 learning new skills. So that's likely to distract me from thinking of food. However I didn't sleep well as my 2 year old (only child) was asleep when I left for work and when I returned. She normally sleeps through, but last night woke at 230 and just wanted to be attached to me. I drfted in and out of sleep, in her bed then my bed, returning her to her bed a couple of too until 5 when she fell asleep, after I snapped at her then said just lay in bed until it's light, not long now. So she's asleep now, unlikely to wake before I leave so I've got guilt and tierendess as ready excusus to break this diet. Apologies for the ramble.

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/02/2021 07:41

Sorry to hear about your bad night bramble. Hope you get suitably distracted today to keep alert & away from snacks. Your dd loves you. You are doing your best, which is good enough.

Feeling flat & unmotivated, but need the results so will keep at it. No idea what my food will look like for the day. Only had 2 meals yesterday, but both carb heavy. Will do best to have more veg today.
