Frolicking through February

Octopus37 · 01/02/2021 08:19

Think I might have used a similar title last year, but here goes. Hopefully we might move towards frolicking cause things have got to improve in February right.

Weighed in at 9st4 this morning. A couple of pounds off this month would be great, but I'm mainly working on my motivation and trying to increase my energy levels.

Oh that is a good tip Mono

Overweight · 15/02/2021 14:52

I think I'm one of the few who likes Mondays because weekends are fun yet bonkers here but today the toddler is back at nursery, DH is working and it's just the baby and me. A bit more calm!

I made a big portion of what I was calling Marmite soup, but guess that will now have to be Nutella soup! It's lovely. Thanks again for that recipe.

How do many of you find the time to do 12k steps a day? I'm aiming for 10, but unless I go out for a two hour walk, I don't get there. A 'normal' day with a short walk brings me in about 8500-9000.

NutellaEllaElla · 15/02/2021 14:54

Cor Nutella soup sounds amazing Grin
I don't have a step counter but DH and I try to go for a long walk every evening.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/02/2021 15:04

A one hour walk gives me about 8k steps

TheHoneyBadger · 15/02/2021 22:04

I've fasted today. Made easy by side effects and being a bit of an emotional wreck. Quite glad to have walked my emotions rather than eating them today. Should help make up for a slack weekend.

Monochrome4 · 15/02/2021 22:15

Oh no sorry for being an emotional wreck HoneyBadger. I'm sorry I'm behind on the thread and don't know what's going on.

First day of logging food for a few weeks and I've eaten over 2k calories, and I didn't even think I was having that much! In the autumn that would have felt like loads, but at Christmas I just got accustomed to eating more than I need and lockdown prevented me getting back on the wagon.

At least I've started logging, and my husband is on annual leave this week so things are a bit easier and I can try to get myself back into the swing of eating frugally. I'll see if I can at least get it down to 1800 tomorrow.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/02/2021 23:01

It'll pass. Well done for logging and plan to reduce a bit. Softly softly is the way sometimes and helps avoid resistance and resentment.

drspouse · 15/02/2021 23:10

I have been through those periods loads!
I think now, 6 weeks into the year, I am JUST getting over my Christmas habit/need of eating loads. I was actually wondering if it would pass at all.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 15/02/2021 23:24

Big fat fail here today on the intake but all goals met on the steps etc with 12,673 steps, 30 floors, 50 active minutes, over 2000 calories burnt and over 5 miles walked, tomorrow will be better. I hope.

NutellaEllaElla · 16/02/2021 08:34

I'm so annoyed at pinch of nom! Their recipes have been consistently under estimating the calorie counts but this takes the biscuit. Cherry cola pulled pork, the recipe calls for a 1.5k pork shoulder joint, supposed to serve 6 and be 356 calories. We receive a 1.18k joint and before any other ingredients that comes to 570 calories a serving according to the label. What bullshit. I was going to have it with a bread roll but after inputting all ingredients it would come to 771 calories a serving if I did that, 641 calories without any bread, rice or accompaniment and who has pulled pork on its own? I'd rather have a bloody fish and chips take away for those calories and I wouldn't have such a calorific dinner mid week usually.

drspouse · 16/02/2021 08:39

How big is the serving according to the pork label?

Octopus37 · 16/02/2021 08:54

@TheHoneyBadger hope you are feeling better today. @Monochrome4 its so hard isn't it trying to scale back. I'm not logging as such but decided to start again yesterday. Actually managed to have a good day, think I was under 1500 cals, nearly 10,000 steps and drunk 5 pints of water. Going to carry on trying to do well the next few days, then will weigh in on Friday. Hoping to see a difference as I've just been messing around for ages.

I'm going by the calories by weight per the label rather than serving size

TheHoneyBadger · 16/02/2021 09:53

Morning. So far so good thanks octopus. I'm getting a phonecall today as a meds review to see how it's going and get next prescription. Hopefully I'm past the worst.

Another scales whoosh today long may it last. Official way in is Thursday so it has inspired me to stay on track.

Still find it a bit gutting that I'm losing weight I've already lost once but the important thing is I'm losing again thankfully.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 16/02/2021 09:57

Morning all. Another walk today planned so I'll hit my targets I think. It's Shrove Tuesday but I won't be having any pancakes and will have a yogurt and muesli day to balance out yesterday. Really must get round to making some soup.
Have a good day everyone!

TheHoneyBadger · 16/02/2021 09:57

I sometimes feel I'm disadvantaged by not really liking cooking or elaborate eating because some of you get so into your low cal recipes and excited about healthy food but on the other hand I guess it must be hard to miss making dishes you love.

drspouse · 16/02/2021 09:58

But presumably the recipe will have calories by serving size? If a 1.5kg joint in the recipe serves 6 that's 250g pork per serving which would be way too much!
NutellaEllaElla · 16/02/2021 11:20

Yeah so I planned to still have 6 portions using a smaller weight of pork than the recipe. I hadn't really thought how much that would be per person. What would be a reasonable amount per person then?

NutellaEllaElla · 16/02/2021 11:43

To be honest I don't always enjoy cooking but I get the most calories for my food when I cook from scratch
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 16/02/2021 11:55

Just a little pancake info! The recipe we usually use seems to be up there with the healthiest (!) 100g flour, 300ml milk, 2 eggs. Tbsp maple syrup just over 50 cals and I plan on having one with fruit and Greek yoghurt while going easy cals wise during the day. Did OK food wise yesterday but was wiped after weekend so failed on the steps. Oh well. Will get em in today.
Octopus you're doing great on steps and water. Fingers crossed for Fri weigh in here also, just once I'm slightly down that's my only target now. Nutella that's annoying. I think 150g meat loads.

drspouse · 16/02/2021 12:07

Nutella I'd say about 100g for a reasonable portion of meat, or maybe 150g if it's less filling/less salty (you can't eat as much if it's salty).
A quarter pounder (so, 110g) is a fairly small burger but not toddler sized portion or anything, so that's a good benchmark.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 16/02/2021 14:21

I've just realised that Lent begins tomorrow! This might be the right time to quit chocolate. Hot chocolate doesn't count in this as it doesn't give me a chocolate hit. For me it's the texture of chocolate that matters.

NutellaEllaElla · 16/02/2021 16:57

Ok, i'll cook it and see what it looks like in terms of quantity and calorific load. Annoying though, I mean this is a large part of their books USP and they get it so wrong? Wtf are they doing?

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 16/02/2021 17:26

Tweet them, they'll reply I'm sure. Very annoying.

NutellaEllaElla · 16/02/2021 17:37

I did already Blush Grin
