For anyone wondering, this is a continuation of a long running Weight Loss Surgery thread, linked above.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 31/01/2021 21:23

Thanks @QueenOfPain can’t believe the thread is still going and with so many success stories too- it’s crazy!

@Seriouslyconfused3
Thank you for the new thread. This is an really supportive thread for all those thinking about or on the weight loss surgery path.

I think I may change my username to "needtoloseless" if it's available!

CoronaCurls · 31/01/2021 22:14

Thanks @Seriouslyconfused3 for the new thread. This has been such a big help to me and so supportive.

PUER125 · 31/01/2021 22:38

@Ralphthemouth, Have you decided where you are having your surgery?

RalphtheMouth · 31/01/2021 22:47

@PUER125 Yes, at Streamline, Harrow, surgeon Chris Pring.

Ladybird69 · 01/02/2021 01:53

@RalphtheMouth can you tell me what tier 3 and 4 is please. I haven’t heard that before.

Been looking at British weight loss clinics they never post the prices for the operations. I find it strange that they don’t.

QueenOfPain · 01/02/2021 02:09

Tier 3 and 4 is part of the NHS pathway to weight loss surgery. Have a look at the nice guidelines for obesity management.

Tier 3 is the process prior to having surgery agreed, you meet with dieticians, psychotherapists, etc and have to lose a certain amount of weight before hand.
Tier 4 is when you’ve jumped through all the hoops and met all the targets and they finally list you for surgery - it can still be 18 months out from being listed before you’re on the operating table, probably even longer with covid.

I think it’s fairly common knowledge that weight loss surgery in the UK is around the £10k price point.

My surgery was with Tonic at the BMI alexandra in Cheadle. I paid £11,700 for a laparoscopic gastric bypass.

However £1000 of that was because my BMI was over 50 so you must have an ICU bed on stand by in case there are any complications in theatre or during recovery. They were always transparent that if I could get my BMI reduced to below 50 before the date my balance was due then I wouldn’t be charged the £1k extra.

As it happened I had absolutely no complications and was up and about with in a couple of hours of being back in my room. I had a normal room, which was located next to the ICU, presumably so that they could rapidly sort me out if anything went awry.

The sleeve is cheaper than the bypass.

I’m four weeks post op today and have already reduced my BMI by 6 points!

Morning everyone. Just marking my place so I can find my way back. I'm on a stall this week, well I have been for 2 weeks so that's very frustrating. Onwards and downwards this week! Fingers crossed.

RalphtheMouth · 01/02/2021 09:13

@QueenOfPain wow, 6 points in 4 weeks is fantastic, you must be so pleased.

@Ladybird69 I think Queen explained everything above.

Kamma89 · 01/02/2021 10:18

@LadyShmuck I'm 3 1/2 months out now & just experienced my first stall, very frustrating but I followed the advice of others on here & kept off scales, carried on eating well & have started to move down again. Fingers crossed its onwards & downwards for all :)

Seriouslyconfused3 · 01/02/2021 17:28

@LadyShmuck I’m in my second stall right now. First one lasted for weeks and I was petrified the surgery wasn’t working this time I’m much more relaxed about it all

Hi everyone, very pleased there’s a new thread!

@RalphtheMouth I went with streamline (mr Alhamdani) and it has all been very good.

LadyShmuck · 01/02/2021 18:47

@Kamma89 @Seriouslyconfused3 thanks for the support, its worse than a stall on a normal diet for some reason! I'm counting my protein again, maybe I've got a bit complacent and I'll try to keep off the scales this week. Glad you got through your stalls, it's a bit of a mind game sometimes I think.

RalphtheMouth · 01/02/2021 19:04

@MindBodyChocolate thanks, that’s good to know.

Ladybird69 · 01/02/2021 21:41

@QueenOfPain wow well done 😊 congratulations.
I have been referred to the hospital weight management team and had a number of appointments and forms to fill out, and food questionnaires precovid and then my mum was taken ill and passed away bless her , so I postponed the appointment. now I’m ready to go ahead but I don’t feel that they were bothered. I’ve done every diet, I’ve had counselling but now nothing works luckily my weight is pretty stable but I just can’t lose weight. I just pray that a bypass would help me get rid of the weight as I’m classed as morbidly obese.

QueenOfPain · 02/02/2021 00:25

You would certainly lose weight with the bypass but it’s no magic wand. It’s hard work, emotionally, more so than physically.

wibblewobblex · 02/02/2021 00:25

Hi thanks for the new thread and thanks to everyone who replied to my post on last thread. posting so i get updates x

LaurieFairyCake · 02/02/2021 19:59

Yay! Grin Thanks for this

Everything going well this week for me - some days I'm hungrier and I eat 1100, other days like yesterday I only managed 700

Tonight is a gin night once I finish work at 9, so I'm looking forward to that

I have renumbered my goal weight to put my bmi at 23. I'm doing this not because I actually want a 'goal weight' - it's just the number I'm going to check my health at and have further surgery (new hip/knee) if I'm still in pain.

MonkeysandParrots · 02/02/2021 23:32

Hey folks, still here, still reading! Just had my 6 month ‘surgiversary’ on 31st. Have lost 53lbs, another 47lbs to go.

I definitely eat more calories than I probably should but I am also extremely active. Dietician has told me to worry less about calories, don’t track food and focus more on intuitive eating. Not sure that’s working for me but will give it a few more weeks as I am still losing albeit slowly.

I am so bloody glad I did this, can’t even bear to think what sort of state I would be in now (based on the disaster weight wise that was lockdown one) had I not. Feel like I am getting ‘me’ back.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 03/02/2021 07:34

Hey @MonkeysandParrots glad you’re doing well! I feel like like me again too- it’s nice to care about clothes again too- I dressed like a grandma before Smile

Great to hear you are doing well @MonkeysandParrots 😀

I'm finding the vibration plate brilliant it's definitely helping me to tone up quite quickly and without too much effort 😆

MindBodyChocolate · 03/02/2021 18:08

Hi @MonkeysandParrots good to hear from you - great progress!

I’ve gone a bit clothes crazy. I’ve so far managed not to make any really big purchases as I don’t know what size I’ll end up but there’s been A LOT of smaller ones!! Just enjoying looking better.
