@StylishMummy I had zero complications/risk factors, fairly young & apart from the obesity...fit. Could have been back at my quite stressful desk job after a week but I'm glad I had 2 weeks off.

For me it wasn't surgery pain/recovery that was an issue but total lack of energy/concentration from the lack of calories. At 2 weeks out I could move & eat more which made getting back to work much easier.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/02/2021 13:26

I went back to work after 6 days StylishMummy - was daft as sitting in one position was really hard so could only manage a couple of hours

After 8 days I could manage sitting in the chair for 4 hours (I'm a therapist so have to sit still)

If you can move around it's much easier

AnnieSnap · 09/02/2021 13:36

Hi everyone, I had a Omega Loop Bypass (AKA mini bypass) 15 weeks ago. I have lost 49lbs and feel great. Just started selling ‘too large’ clothes on Ebay.

PUER125 · 10/02/2021 06:52

@StylishMummy, Where are you having your surgery? I have contacted a few clinics but none is offering surgery at the moment. I have a mini consultation with a surgeon next week but with no guarantee of a date for surgery.
I just want this to be done so that I can move forward.

MindBodyChocolate · 10/02/2021 08:24

@StylishMummy I had 2 weeks off work (desk job) and it felt about right. I could have managed after 1 week - physically I was fine - but I still felt quite weak. Everyone recovers differently though. I had zero physical complications or problems which was great but obviously might not be everyone’s experience.

MindBodyChocolate · 10/02/2021 08:25

@PUER125 - have you tried streamline? I had my surgery with them in the November lockdown so they might still be operating now?

StylishMummy · 10/02/2021 09:39

@PUER125 I'm booked with tonic but my surgery date has been moved 3 times and to 3 different hospitals. The list I'm on the was created to deal with the cancellations from other hospitals so I think there's 6 people in 1 day. Any new bookings I think are end of April to May now, I booked in November for reference.

Thank you all for the info on work, I WFH full time and flexible hours so 2 weeks might be best so I can get properly comfortable as it's a mentally active job Grin

RalphtheMouth · 10/02/2021 09:45

@PUER125 I’m booked with Streamline for end March. Their Harrow hospital is still doing operations. When I was investigating the different companies a couple of weeks ago, Transform in Birmingham and Manchester were still going too.

QueenOfPain · 10/02/2021 10:08

I had booked three and a bit weeks off, but I used annual leave as I had enough of it left to be able to do that, and I’m a nurse so didn’t want to go back too soon and end up overdoing it, even though most of my work is desk based.

In the first week or two I felt weak and had a lot going on emotionally with all the hormonal changes and just getting used to my new stomach and life, so I think one or two weeks would have been too soon for me.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2021 11:41

I thought I'd post what is a 'large' meal for me now. This is pumpkin gnocchi with arrabiata sauce. It's probably 220 calories going by the packaging.

This is my first meal of the day at 11.40am (just starting to feel hungry now). I eat between 800-1100 calories a day.

20 weeks from sleeve, 28 pounds down.

Weird question - can I add protein water/protein powder successfully to pasta sauce?

I'm thinking about making a huge 10 vegetable sauce and pureeing it so I can tolerate it - and I'm wondering how I could boost protein content of it

Any thoughts?

CoronaCurls · 12/02/2021 08:50

It's worth a try! I have successfully added protein powder to porridge so far.

MindBodyChocolate · 12/02/2021 11:32

I’ve got the unsweetened bulk powders pure whey protein powder and it says it stirs into thing like sauces. Perhaps mix it up with some water first and then add? It’s extremely high in protein and the best consistency I’ve found.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/02/2021 11:57

Thank you 🙏 both - off to shop

CoronaCurls · 12/02/2021 15:49

Thanks @MindBodyChocolate I've just ordered some.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 12/02/2021 16:35

I’m celebrating today guys! Stall number 2 broken and my total loss is 62 lbs! That’s over 25% of my overall body weight Grin wish I’d done this years ago

OP posts:
QueenOfPain · 12/02/2021 16:48

Well done my love. I’m mid stall again, I seem to have a week of losing and week of stalling/regaining what I’d lost the precious week at the moment. But I’m hopefully I’m on the way back down again.

Does everyone take regular body measurements for some reassurance during the stalls?

Neversleepingever · 12/02/2021 17:09

I've just found this group! Hi!!

I've got just under 5k saved up for weight loss surgery. I'm just so hungry all the time. I know it's about 10k for surgery in the UK but it's taken me about 4 years to save the 5k. Would you go abroad instead?

AnnieSnap · 12/02/2021 20:05

Could you take out a loan for the rest? Going abroad is a great idea until something goes wrong or you feel dreadful, but have to face a long journey home, including sitting around airports and a flight. I wouldn’t have considered it myself and when I had my surgery, I was glad to just have a short drive home and to have the support of my Surgeon locally.
MindBodyChocolate · 12/02/2021 20:13

Hi @Neversleepingever - some uk providers offer finance (although I don’t know about interest rates etc) so check those out. Abroad is much cheaper and Internet forums are full of people happy with their surgery but of course things do wrong both here and abroad. I think you’ve got to weigh it all up in your own mind as we’ve all got different concerns/attitudes. Good luck with your decision!

MindBodyChocolate · 12/02/2021 20:16

Well done @Seriouslyconfused3 - great results. I bet you’re feeling amazing having lost so much.

I lost 1lb this week after 3lb last week and have now hit exactly 3 and a half stone loss. I’m absolutely thrilled with how it’s going and so pleased I had it done. I could never have lost this without the surgery and it’s still going. This is truly a life saver.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 12/02/2021 20:25

Thanks all. @QueenOfPain with this most recent stall my weight fluctuated a few pounds and I got really disheartened but it’s all just fell off now it’s broken! Welcome @Neversleepingever I think there’s a few groups on Facebook about getting surgery overseas. I’m glad I stayed in the uk though- a car journey home was bad enough I couldn’t have been bothered with a flight. I think some clinics do finance too

@QueenOfPain I take measurements occasionally but take photos more and you can see your body changing even when the scales don’t move

Hi everyone, I'm new to post, though I have been reading the posts for a while. I've paid my deposit to Phoenix and have a provisional date for mid May. I've been waiting to see if covid restrictions calm down. I'm from Northern Ireland and have to travel to Manchester as nowhere here does bariatric surgery and its also not allowed at all on NHS here. At the moment I believe that I will have to travel over and self isolate for a period of time in a hotel or air bnb, which right now is 10 days plus stay for a few days afterwards in case of any complications. I really do not want to leave my family for so long as I have 3 primary school children, but only have a certain window of time to have it done. The clinic say they hope that by May this self isolation period would be down to 72 hours. I'm feeling nervous about it all, but sure that this is the only way for me now. Just wondered if anyone else had travelled from NI and how they found it? My surgeon is Mr Alan Li, if anyone has used him, I'd love to hear how you found him. Thank you!

Neversleepingever · 13/02/2021 08:20

Thanks for your replies! What would you say is the best surgery? I know there's the sleeve, bypass, the balloon. All are different price wise but would rather pay more and get one that's the better option!
