Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Gwen see, on that basis I should be able to lose a lot in a week. I don't low carb though but I have tried it and it didn't result in that kind of loss. I just felt ill and lost the usual amount.

long you mean like a finger prick or a test tube? I would be genuinely interested to do that.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 08/03/2021 11:42

I lost 4.4lb in a week a couple of years ago by going low sugar. It was awful though, I was furious the entire time.

longestlurkerever · 08/03/2021 11:57

A finger prick thing yes. Provided by the NHS. Don't know whether you can buy them or how much they would cost

AcornAutumn · 08/03/2021 15:42

long oh I think I can get those in Boots. Do you just check after a period of time having eaten x, y, z?

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 08/03/2021 15:55

Yes when I had GD it was 1 hour after food but I think normal diabetes testing is 2 hours after. You just need to make sure you have the right targets to measure against

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 16:04

I liked the accu chek (sp?!) brand. I was given that when I had GD. Towards the end the made me change brands and I hated it! I wish I hadn’t got rid of the kit after.

Ah, I would have to look into targets, no idea. Just I can feel certain things impacting on blood sugar and I'm interested to know how much.

Someone once told me that, for example, on low GI, bread is bad but ice cream is fine? Seems odd.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 16:31

What got me through GD was food pairing. High fat low carb. As fat makes the sugar release slower. Or something. I forget it all now 😳😂

MrsBobDylan · 08/03/2021 19:17

Maybe it was the no sugar that was making Mr Bob a misery? He is much more cheery today. I have a very sweet tooth and can't imagine a life without pudding.

I like the Rowntree Watermelon Ice lolly's which are low cal and sweet. I had to give up the post-dinner mint magnum because I couldn't spare the calories Sad

Today I have been sewing cushions. I decided at the weekend that we are going to make the back yard look less like a barren wasteland. We are going to re-pave, re-fence it and buy some lovely big pots. We don't have any grass and it is tiny but it could look lovely.

I have finished the sofas for our living room and am really enjoying them!

Hmm, I wasn't allowed ice cream or bread so dunno. Was easy to find willpower when pregnant, much harder when it's just me to worry about!

Ooh home decoration chat. I'd love to hear about your garden plan. I am supposed to be choosing paints for tomorrow and am in a bit of a dilemma. Was going to get knock off version of little Greene pale made up but they can't match it so now I need to fork out for the real thing or go for something cheaper. Dunno. May start a separate thread

AcornAutumn · 08/03/2021 19:42

MrsBob

I always thought, as part of my dream garden, I'd like pots with different colours of painted fern, or heuchera.

long it's lovely choosing paint colours. Many moons ago, I tried seven different testers, my parents came round and said "but they're all cream". Some people don't see it, but I did a bit of artwork last summer and the longest part was mixing the shades to get the right turquoise. I was so pleased with the colour - the artwork didn't go well! - I left the turquoise mix card just propped up in the bathroom for a while.

My sister came round and said "why is there a piece of card with just turquoise on it in your loo?"

I said - because I love it.😍

Started watching Landscape Artist of the Year last night. Too much talk so far but interesting.

I lost 2lb this week but no idea how 🤔 as I have been pretty much sofa bound the whole time! Anxiety is easing off a bit though thankfully. How are you?

SingToTheSky · 09/03/2021 11:34

@longestlurkerever I totally relate - getting through the pregnancy was relatively easy (wasn’t even for that long really as they induced me 3 weeks early... because they were worried she was too small... compared to the elephantine DS where I hadn’t controlled my GD 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️) - I had so much anxiety about doing it wrong that I was motivated to be really careful. But once she arrived it was really hard to stay on the LCHF wagon.

That's good!

Feeling a bit hopeless about it tbh. I tried to eat more healthily yesterday and just ended up feeling hungry.

Hi all! @longestlurkerever we love a bit of colour discussion on this thread, please feel free to distract us with your colour scheme decisions!

@AcornAutumn I am going to note down your suggestions - I know nothing about plants but have a vague idea about ferns/tall swishy things at the back, then mid hight stuff, then some nice colourful flowers at the front. I like the natural wild grasses I've seen on Gardeners World with wild flowers.

@SingToTheSky 2lbs is excellent! I recently realised that my anxiety of actually more to do with my OCD and that the worry is just an intrusive thought. It felt easier to push away when I could look at it objectively as some kind of brain malfunction rather than a sing something bad might happen!

I find myself wanting to eat EVERYTHING...I wonder if I might up my calories again because like you Acorn I just feel hungry.

AcornAutumn · 09/03/2021 18:29

MrsBob

I'm feeling a bit strange so the whole thing might be medication related.

I hope you will indulge me by allowing me to make suggestions

Painted ferns must be selling well as there were loads more before!

Different coloured grasses, I'd choose blue, black, red. The J parker picture of blue grass doesn't do it justice IMHO.

Oh they are stunning! I love colour and movement plus they have the advantage of creating the illusion of depth. Thanks Acorn - anything else you think I might like, please do suggest it.

I have just completed the first of four website building sessions. The Course leader knows his stuff but also knows we haven't a clue so I'm quite hopeful!

You might regret saying that! No, I'm going to stop looking at plant sites after just finally saying....heather!

Turns out there's a type of lavender called Fathead Confused

Glad you're enjoying the web building course. Does it involve a lot of coding, is it building websites from scratch?

Cow parsley is lovely in shady spot, it floats above everything else like Verbena Bonariensis does in sunnier spots.

longestlurkerever · 10/03/2021 19:02

Ooh I have some black grass which I bought with a voucher my colleagues have me. Love the red one. Maybe I'll drop some hints re mother's day.

Bumped into someone I know while running who said I'd lost loads of weight. Not sure that's true but do feel a bit more toned.

Yay and yay! Did the black grass turn out nicely?

I fear I will be really struggling with medication issues for about two weeks, I've been down this road before. This probably means no loss in that time sadly.

How's everyone doing? I am not doing hobbies and haven't done workouts, after work I'm only capable of watching TV and even then I have trouble with screen brightness or loud noises.

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 10/03/2021 21:26

It is nice but hadn't really grown much so looks a bit puny. Probably my rubbish soil. Sorry to hear about medication issues. Hope you feel better soon. I'm ok. Have new running shoes which are a bit less sore. Work a bit mad but better today than yesterday. Going to have an early night I think.

MrsBobDylan · 11/03/2021 07:36

Oh Acorn that sounds terrible for you. Do you think you can sort of place yourself on a 'maintain' diet and not worry about loosing but instead keeping the loss you have worked so hard for? I hope the medication side effect settle down soon.

Fathead lavender sound right up my street Grin Also, I now need colourful heather and cow parsley. I grew up in the country and always thought cow parsley was the the most beautiful wild plant. I'm now thinking about those tall stems with big fluffy stuff on top. They were very popular in the 70s I think ?!

I am worrying about a possible issue with my middle son and am trying to coordinate some treatment/diagnostic tests under general anaesthetic. It is stressful which is helping me not stuff my face. Silver linings Grin

longestlurkerever · 11/03/2021 09:17

Sorry you're suffering with health worries too Mrs B, especially relating to your ds. I hope all turns out well but it does indeed sound stressful.

V windy today so almost didn't go running but it dropped a bit so I did and am pleased I did. Cannot wait for swimming to start back up though.

Painting is under way. Going to try and tidy rest of the house at the weekend and possibly apply for a new job. Well a temporary new job - a kind of secondment. Can't decide if it will just be more work for the same pay but if it is I can always come back.
