Has anyone tried Orlistat?

Hi Ladies (and Gents!)

I wonder if anyone has tried Orlistat and can give any feedback on your experience with it?

Over lockdown like so many of us, I have piled on the lbs and now find myself unable to fit into any of my clothes and I’m feeling really down and miserable. I’m currently sitting at 12st and I’m only 5ft 2”. I feel terrible about my weight and dread the prospect of Christmas because I’ll only pile on more!

Looking forward to any replies.

Best wishes,

SophSmile

God I know! Some people seem to have had a really bad time of it on these!

I'm a bit worried about it all. I'm taking quite a lot of medications- ant acid stuff, sleep/pain stuff, thyroid stuff.

Wondering if it's foolish to add something else in. I won't rush it. Will see if I lose this week, then decide. If I can manage without I will, I just can't afford to fail to lose weight again.

JohnnyJohnnyYesMama · 12/11/2020 20:10

Don't ever ever think it's just wind Blush

Plussizejumpsuit · 12/11/2020 20:17

I take it. It's totally fine. People love these dramatic stories bout sitting yourself. But not true for me. I was eating quite a low fat diet but have been eating regular stuff including treats and I'm fine. I wonder if people have actually experienced accidents or just like the jokes about it?

I'm prescribed it by my GP though as i take meds and have health issue which mean weight loss is hard.

Plussizejumpsuit · 12/11/2020 20:18

Also I'm proper gassy! I don't shit myself when I fart and I fart a lot!

Wow what a sentence!

picklemewalnuts · 12/11/2020 20:18

That's reassuring jumpsuit. I'm in the same boat.

echodot · 12/11/2020 20:21

You know that oil you get from a chilli con carne when it gets cold?? You leak this quite a lot...

TinkersRucksack · 12/11/2020 20:21

@helloxhristmas

My mate did, she shat herself on a petrol station forecourt...

Honestly I don't identify with what people are talking about. Wtf were they eating?

But I guess be careful if you eat something quite fatty. With lockdown it's probably a good time to try it out.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/11/2020 20:26

One thing I would worry about is a vitamin absorption tbh. If you have diarrhea or any digestive issues, you usually waste lots of vitamins nad minerals out rather than body getting them.

Bluntness100 · 12/11/2020 20:29

This thread must win the Internet today 😂😂😂

Orlistat is meant to work by stopping you absorbing about 1/3 of your dietary fat (hence the fatty sharts when you do dare to eat anything fatty...)

In my professional experience it never actually works in RL (the studies that show it achieves more weight loss than diet changes alone are all done in very tightly controlled conditions and simply don't reflect what goes on in people's normal day to day lives Hmm).

When people DO lose weight on Orlistat, it is for one of 2 reasons: 1. they are so terrified to eat, they just don't. Or 2. they still eat enough fat that the resultant fatty diarrhoea (needs to be seen/smelled to be believed) drains them of all desire to eat.

And guess what: ye don't eat, ye lose weight.

I have 2 st to lose, I'd not touch Orlistat with a cake fork.

AliceMcK · 12/11/2020 20:43

Yes, it only works on a high fat diet though. My Dr took me off it because I wasn’t as committed as I could have been. I’m also more of a carbs person than fat.

If you can avoid carbs it’s really good.

Some tips though (beware some might be gross 🤢)

Wear a pad 24/7 - bigger the better
Always carry spare pads & knickers
NEVER EVER try holding a fart in or wait to go to the toilet. As soon as you feel you need to fart or poo, get to the toilet straight away. A fart may just be a fart, but it also maybe much worse.
Its actually the fat in your food your disposing off, it is orange in colour. Make sure you have plenty of kitchen spray in your bathroom. It works better than bathroom spray and cutting through the discharge. Just flushing alone won’t dispose of it.
I sprayed my toilet even if I didn’t need too, especially in winter as I didn’t want the fat clogging the u-bend.

After a while you will get use to it and get in a routine, and know the signs.

I’m going to try my Dr again and see if they will give it another go with me.

Good luck x

Helloxhristmas

How did the story of your mate shitting herself on the petrol forecourt end?😂

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 12/11/2020 22:16

Get a little spray bottle, fill it with soapy water and take it everywhere you go. You will need it to clean the toilet bowl every time you go: the fat doesn't flush without it!

Yes to tatty undies and a panty liner.

Plussizejumpsuit · 13/11/2020 09:07

No you're advised to eat a low fat diet on it.

picklemewalnuts · 22/11/2020 14:41

I'm on day 2 and slightly anxious! I ate something forgetting that the fat content was higher than it should have been! I'm being very attentive 😂

EachandEveryone · 22/11/2020 14:47

My friend used to with great success and never had a problem. Its best taken when you are due to leave work. We work 12 hour shifts three days a week so its easier to control.

StripeyMow · 05/10/2022 20:01

I’ve just been prescribed this due to being utterly desperate to get myself out of this slump, but this thread has given me the best laugh in ages! The forecourt story is horrendous 😂

ChristmasisRuined · 13/11/2022 18:01

@Savourysenorita Was 'hambag' an intentional typo?!

TheQueef · 12/11/2020 09:37

Two words.
Anal seepage.
They are on the info leaflet but imo not emphasised enough.

And it's suspiciously like the oil that settles on a cold takeaway Madras so no curries ever after.

I'm on Orlistat right now and laughing at this nearly re-enacted it

HermioneWeasley · 13/11/2022 19:08

Christ @SphJane , come and join us on the Ozempic thread. Lots of weight loss and nobody shitting themselves 😁
