Has anyone tried Orlistat?

Hi Ladies (and Gents!)

I wonder if anyone has tried Orlistat and can give any feedback on your experience with it?

Over lockdown like so many of us, I have piled on the lbs and now find myself unable to fit into any of my clothes and I’m feeling really down and miserable. I’m currently sitting at 12st and I’m only 5ft 2”. I feel terrible about my weight and dread the prospect of Christmas because I’ll only pile on more!

Looking forward to any replies.

Best wishes,

SophSmile

Last resort only, don't go near it unless you truly have no choice.

(Haven't used it, never heard anything good about it)

SphJane · 11/11/2020 19:53

I’m hearing a lot of reviews saying if they have a particularly fattening / greasy meal then all bets are off. That in itself would surely help with weight loss lol?!

Yeh. I had orange diarrhoea stains on the back of my work uniform. Avoid Confused

Batshittery · 11/11/2020 20:20

I haven't come onto the thread just to laugh, but it is funny. I once tried something called Alli (or similar) and that has the same result apparently. I didn't use them for more than a day or two, but reading the reviews there were loads of people saying that it wasn't like shitting yourself, because you don't realise it's happening. The orange oil just leaks out of your backside. Reading it was enough to put me off them.

😂 I heard warnings but this is the best one yet.

Op, I am afraid the safest is to do it without these. Small changes, you can sustain even after are the best

cherrypiepie · 11/11/2020 21:06

It's pretty useless imho I tried it. GP explained It works in two ways - 1. aversion so you eat less fat or suffer the consequences and 2. preventing the absorption of fat so its excreted out.

It's useless because I didn't take it when I ate something with a high fat content and took it when I ate low fat content food (when it won't have any or much effect) so I just stopped taking it!

Also it only works when you have it along side food so if you had a snack or tend to graze it wouldn't work.

I think if you are following a healthy plan that is well balanced with three meals and no snacks it is good.

I had more success with slim fast and nutracheck app combined.

Queenoftheashes · 11/11/2020 21:07

I am on Alli - it’s fine but you do shart oil. My mate is also on it and she shat herself the other day and she was naked in bed with her partner.
It does slightly help with weight loss and orlistat is a higher dose. Most likely you’ll be too scared to eat cheese ever again.

pinkpantsrock · 11/11/2020 21:09

It's the same as alii, just different name on packet

Has anyone tried Orlistat?
SpookyNoise · 11/11/2020 21:14

You don’t just shart it out - it bloody drips out, avoid avoid avoid.

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 11/11/2020 21:16

I used it. It works if your diet has quite a bit of fat in it , otherwise it's pointless.

I did lose weight, and my only "fatty" meal was for dinner so no accidents at work, petrol stations or anywhere else.

You only need to take them if you're eating fat, so grazing on something with a very low fat content/no fat wouldn't require one anyways.

It mainly depends on your diet whether it'll make a difference or not. So check your meals first, see what fat content they have, could you reduce the fat content yourself etc. Then consider it again.

You might also have to buy them yourself, as GP's won't prescribe under a certain weight.

Don't do it Envy

SphJane · 11/11/2020 22:24

Thanks ladies for all your replies.

I should have probably waited until reading the replies before buying them as I’ve only gone and spent 50 quid on a 4 week course!!

My fattiest meal is definitely my dinner. I’m terrible for macaroni cheese, chips, curries etc .. during the day I’m a grazer. I’ll be sure to update this thread with my results lol!!

Hahahaha Christ! This was clearly not one of my better ideas. I’ve ordered from a reputable website so maybe I can refuse delivery and get a refund?

Is sounds like these things are like laxatives on steroids!!

You do have an option to return online buys.

Can't believe MN ruined the joke and messed up the link to adult diapers 🤦

Get a refund my lovely. Trust me on this one. I actually had to pretend I was ill to go home 'sick' with the work incident. And a I'd eaten was a sandwich...
Savourysenorita · 11/11/2020 23:25

Ps I found this helpful.... Avoid tea coffee etc with milk in. Switch to herbal -(you soon get used to them) pukka have some really pleasant and different ones. Don't buy food you know is your nemesis. Ain't got it can't have it. On days where I know I'll eat something naughty e g macdonalds with the kids. I want the big mac - so I'll have it but I work the rest of my day around it food wise. Eg ill have a banana and a bowl of cereal and nothing else until tea. Sort of compensatory to avoid gaining weight. Oh and bran flakes... Really good laxative!
