Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?

So I have approx. 15lbs to lose to get back to my comfortable weight and for my clothes to fit! Thanks to lockdown and a toddler that still doesn't sleep meaning I rely on sugar to get me through the day...

I'm aiming to break it up into 3 5lb mini goals so I don't feel like it's unmanageable before I ever start Grin

Nothing faddy, just planning to make better choices with my food, plan more, and move more too. I have some short-ish term goals that I'm hoping will be enough motivation for me to shift the weight 👶🏻

Anyone want to join? I'd be happy to keep a list going (if there's not too many of us!) to record our weights and losses if anyone would want that too.

How’s everyone feeling about the new lockdown? I’m a bit gutted I won’t be able to swim or gym. I’m in a really good routine at the moment and I don’t want to lose momentum. Anyone got any good online exercise they can recommend?

I’ve done a 45min HIIT class this morning and it’s the final Zumba class this evening.

Jemenfouscompletement · 02/11/2020 11:34

@swampytiggaa Great photos and you all look like you are having fun, which is the most important thing! We had very few races this year, I did a 26k trail race here in Brittany which was quite rocky and I fell and broke my wrist after 3km, still finished the race though;)
I prefer trails, but this is my last marathon 2 years ago, I was 4kgs lighter then and did my best time (3h30) I don't think I'll ever be faster than that!

PurpleDaisies Yes, very dismayed about the closure of the gym. I really got going with my weight loss and fitness once the outdoor pool opened in July, and the healthy eating and exercise go together, for me.

I have NO self discipline beyond clicking and swiping on the app to book my swim or gym. Fitting a good routine onto my flexible life is going to take a will of steel.

My gym offered some online classes last time, which I took no notice of. But I will have a look this time.

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2020 12:24

I’ve just noticed you’re a trail runner @RainingBatsAndFrogs. I started during lockdown and I’m loving it. I’m in need of some better trainers though. I keep getting wet feet. Any tips?

BrimfulOfBaba · 02/11/2020 12:25

Welcome @Jemenfouscompletement!

Really pleased for everyone meeting their goals despite the odd indulgence here and there - yay for balance!!

@PurpleDaisies I had to completely change my routine from the first lockdown as we never went back to the gym when they reopened. We are fortunate enough to have moved somewhere we can have a home gym. It's taken me some time to find my home workout groove - though now I'm in it, I'm happy to stay!

Check out some free trials of some of the popular apps and see what suits - try workouts on YouTube too. Many creators have made versions you can do with minimal weight/bodyweight, and that don't involve lots of jumping.

I recommend the Nike Training Club app to everyone because it is really excellent, and completely free! Also walking is just ace for calorie burning.

TheNewLook · 02/11/2020 13:30

purpledaisies don’t worry! I’ll never join a gym again since finally discovering how to workout far more efficiently by myself at home during the first lockdown.

I use Popsugar, they have loads of routines for all levels, many without impact if you prefer that, varying durations. In the summer I worked out on a mat in the garden. Now I’ll mostly do it indoors, which isn’t as good for the mood boost but gets the job done.

Others swear by Nike app, there are so many options for home fitness, really gyms are for cardio but as women we are better off doing resistance training with our own body weight and dumbbells anyway - we need to build muscle to burn more calories and protect our bones as we age.

That said, a winter lockdown is going to hit people differently I’m sure. The key thing is trying to get outdoors in the morning and whenever you see some sunshine. Grab the vitamin D! We need it for strong immune systems this year more than ever but also outdoor exercise is an excellent mood-enhancer in the darker months.

kwaziseyepatch · 02/11/2020 13:35

Happy Monday everyone,

I've maintained, still 9st 9. Quite happy with that as I've had a tough week with DH on nights and my baby DS seemingly also on nights Sad

I left the gym when it reopened as I didn't think I would get there enough for it to be worth it but we have a turbo trainer upstairs which I'm looking forward to having a go on. DH has a lot of weight to lose so I'm hoping to motivate him too. Not having much progress with the meals as he's rejecting all my vegetable based meals (which I find delicious) currently

kwaziseyepatch · 02/11/2020 13:36

Well done to everyone as well. Another lockdown means it will be hard to stay motivated. I'm a real boredom snacker at the moment

BrimfulOfBaba · 02/11/2020 13:48

That's great @kwaziseyepatch, I find maintenance so hard when sleep patterns are disrupted.

Ah there have been a few threads on MN about husbands who won't eat vegetable-based meals! Hope you find something that works. Veg-based Indian food usually goes down well?

I'm having a rest day today as have worked out over the last few days, but hoping I stay in a deficit! Food has been good so far today: Skyr and granola brekkie, feta and lentil veggie salad for lunch and dinner will be a halloumi salad pitta. Not a snack per se but I had to test a few hazelnuts to see if they were off (they were! urgh).

swampytiggaa · 02/11/2020 20:44

6 miles done today 🙂 not eaten much as didn’t feel hungry really. Work tomorrow morning so off to bed in a minute

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 02/11/2020 21:29

OurpleDaisis Alas I am not a trail runner - must be another of our thread members. And I am no help with wet feet either. Except do they not have Goretex trail running shoes?
Also I know people wear waterproof sock for walking sometimes. Googling results in lots of breathable waterproof socks.

NibbleQueen · 02/11/2020 21:29

Hello all!
I've just come back from hols - between that and my stress-eating and drinking I've gained 2 inches on my waist 😱 I don't dare weigh myself until next week at least

Plan for tomorrow:
Lunch of roast squash, farro & egg
Dinner of salmon, cabbage and maybe a bit of rice, dark chocolate
Snacks of miso soup and a few nuts if I'm really starving
Workout - 1hr at lunch of HIIT and weights

I'm going to try to be dry this lockdown so hopefully the rest of the healthy behaviour will follow

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 02/11/2020 21:45

On the subject of cake:

Cake (and crisps) are sent to tempt us. Cake has sky high levels of calories. I was looking hopefully at a lemon drizzle muffin in M&S the other day - a classy sort of muffin, it wasn't dripping with thick icing or buttercream or anything. 385 Calories! 385! A full size Mars bar is only 228, for heaven's sake! So. For those of us who MUST occasionally have something sweet and indulgent I have a suggestion.

Lidl Mini Frozen Chocolate Eclairs. From the party food section. You can eat 2 and it's 100 Cals. The chocolate on top is dark and rich. You can eat them pretty much frozen, just leave them out for 5 or 10 mins.

Crisps: I am terrible for multipacks of Seabrooks or those Yo! Sushi Katsu Curry flavour that Walkers did over the summer. But the advantage of multipacks is that they are smaller than bags sold singly and usually have about 130 cals, so not too bad.

Anyway - a great Monday - some fantastic lost pounds, and lots of Yay! for people who stayed level after a week of need. Also, sometimes you just plateau.

momo3w · 02/11/2020 21:58

Great work everyone - all the talk of running has made me miss it but I’m really enjoying rowing and like that I’m able to get it done while the baby sleeps. I might look at signing up for a running event next year as motivation to get back in to it.

Sorry that most of you are heading in to another lockdown. I think being here in New Zealand is quite the envy of a lot of people around the world, I feel very lucky to live here and appreciate the approach we’ve taken.

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2020 22:43

Sorry @RainingBatsAndFrogs. It was someone else. Blush. I really like the idea of waterproof socks. I’ve never come across those before.

Today it’s been a triple exercise day with hiit, Zumba and a walk. I’ve eaten pretty well too, possibly on the large side but all good stuff.

Jemenfouscompletement · 03/11/2020 06:31

@momo3w you'll be back to running soon, it must be fantastic running in the beautiful countryside of NZ! Glad you are avoiding another lockdown.
@PurpleDaisies I think it was maybe me, I do a lot of trail running. Yes, you can get Gore tex versions of most shoes - I run in Brooks Cascadia for trails there is a waterproof version. I think they are fine if you just run through short wet grass but once you hit winter and are running on deep farm track puddles, or you do races often through streams and crossing rivers water enters through the top of the shoe. In a normal shoe it drains out quickly but with Goretex it stays in the shoe and running with shoes full of water is far more uncomfortable than running with wet socks and feet. My feet are permanently wet and muddy in winter I just have 2 pairs of shoes so one is always dry at least when I set out!

Happyface120 · 03/11/2020 08:53

A day late with weighing in, bit another pound down, despite eating the world last week- 11st 3lb this morning.

Have run for 6 out of last 7 days, so have set myself a mile a day challenge for November.

Well done to everyone, such a lovely thread to be on

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2020 08:56

Interesting to know about goretex trainers holding water. It is the deep puddles that are an issue round here so think will stick to regular ones and try the socks instead.

I’m sore after yesterday’s exercise but fitting in a swim with a friend before everything closes. It’s a small portion of leftover butternut squash curry for lunch and lentil spag Bol for tea. I’ll swap half the pasta for tenderstem broccoli. Our guinea pigs will be pleased because they get trimmings!

My lovely cleaner is at home so I’m in a coffee shop. I’ve just gone for coffee and newfound willpower and solidarity from the thread has kept it at just a coffee, not a second breakfast that I don’t need.

DownUdderer · 03/11/2020 10:24

I'm a pound down from last Monday. Current weight 9st 10.

BrimfulOfBaba · 03/11/2020 10:41

Amazing stuff everyone :) @RainingBatsAndFrogs good tip on the eclairs! I bought a big bar of Tony's Chocolonely (the toffee pretzel one, save me) with the hope that I will eke it out over the week. But, I am due that time of month so we will see how that goes!

I weighed in this morning and was surprised but happy to see another 1lb off since yesterday - won't put too much stock into it, I'm only counting Monday weigh-ins, but this is the furthest I have gotten with a weight-loss journey for two years!

I checked my MFP entries from a year ago out of curiosity and was shocked to see how poorly I was eating and exercising when I thought I was "trying". The accountability and support on this thread has been so very helpful! Thank you all!

bellinique · 03/11/2020 11:57

Well done @BrimfulOfBaba! It's so nice to have some non-judgemental accountability isn't it!

I managed not to eat cake yesterday even though it's still in the fridge. Not sure whether that resolve will last today yet...

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 03/11/2020 12:50

Wow!

So many people doing so well with weight loss and / or exercise!

I am slowly but surely trying to build some muscle as well as lose weight.

The closure of the gym won't help.

Gigia · 03/11/2020 13:50

Late weighing in again but 0.2kg down so 0.7kg down in total to 52.3kg. Slowly getting there

Frogsandsheep · 03/11/2020 16:00

I have lost 2lb! I’m still over 10 stone and can’t fit in most of my trousers but it’s a start!

Frustratedmummy79 · 03/11/2020 18:38

Another late weigh in but I lost 1lb so now 10st 3. Was pretty pleased with any loss as I've not been great
