Let's keep it active!
I can feel my legs, they do not hurt yet, but they have been put to use today. And they will tomorrow as I have to do the same distance walk again! Also, staying away from the snacks and sticking to the meal plan. Today I had a small portion of pasta, so I need my walk back home to level it.
I do hope I am shifting some pounds!

pourmeanotherglass · 29/07/2020 21:22

Well done all. I've made it through 3 days of 16:8 but not managed to fit in a run yet as work has been really busy.

Blackbear19 · 29/07/2020 21:23

Well done to those who've made the overweight milestone. 😀

Today is day 2 of 16:8 I've found it harder than yesterday but prepared to keep going. I think I might put a picture of me up on the fridge - remember what I really look like - and why I need to do this.

I regularly start diets and never seem to last more than a couple of weeks.

YeetYeet · 29/07/2020 22:02

What are everyone's top tips? (Especially those who have lost some weight already.) Mine are:

Expect some days to be more difficult than others, breathe and ride it out as best you can.

Accept that sometimes you will go off plan, and realise that actually, you haven't really. Eating things you haven't planned to is inevitable and part of the measure of your success is how you respond.

One step at a time, don't try to do too much too soon, whether that's diet or exercise, you don't want to set yourself up for failure.

I'm the same! It wasn't so bad actually. Are you calorie counting during the 8 hour eating period?

Blackbear19 · 29/07/2020 22:21

Savoury I'm on day two of 16:8 I am calorie counting trying to keep under 1200 calories.
I think it would be very easy to over eat in the 8 hour window.

notevenamum1 · 29/07/2020 22:23

My plan is to focus purely on diet (but aim to get 10,000 steps most days) until I lose my first stone. From here I have another 2 stones to lose so will start to incorporate exercise so running and maybe the gym if I feel like it is time to go back again. I find that when I exercise I get insatiably hungry and I find it SO hard to control. The age old mantra is that you can’t outrun your fork and that it’s 80% diet so not quite a top tip but this is my plan!

notevenamum1 · 29/07/2020 22:24

@Blackbear19 I am also doing 16:8 and eating approx 1,200- 1,300 cals a day although I do allow more at the weekend

avocadoze · 29/07/2020 22:24

I have 20kg to lose which is about 3 stone. I have lost 10 already and discovered that I have a collarbone.

Sforsh49 · 29/07/2020 22:32

I started Sunday as I weighed myself and was the heaviest I've been in 5 years. Sunday was possibly a bad day as I knew I had huge water retention but I had to start somewhere and if I hadn't then I'd have just had another day of eating chocolate and crisps.

I'm on 1200-1300 cals a day, also loosely sticking to 16:8. If anyone wants to work out their basic rate of energy expenditure to make sure they have a big enough deficit to see a result this calculator is good. Mine is 1700, quite a bit below the 2000 that is bandied about

Blackbear19 · 29/07/2020 23:32

What kind of scales are people using? I have a basic digital set but like the idea of the ones that link to your phone.

housemdwaswrong · 29/07/2020 23:51

I'd like to join too if that's okay. :) Looks.loke a great thread. I'm 16 st 5, lost 5lbs last week. Weighing on a Monday.

I can't run thanks to dodgy joints, and between steroids and overeating I put 10lbs on over lockdown...was not slim to begin with! :) Im using a recumbent exercise bike, doing 14km a day as a sponsored charity thing. This has been fab because people have paid, I have to do it!

Aiming to get down to about 12 stone and take it from there. Long haul ahead.

Someone was asking about scales, I use eufy which connects to the phone, and gives all sorts of info. Screenshot below if you are interested. :)

Welcome, housemdwaswrong - sounds like you've got off to a cracking start, well done.

blackbear19 my scales are from the 1980s, pre-digital. If only my weight had stayed as constant as my scales...

housemdwaswrong · 30/07/2020 01:10

Thank you. :) I'm under no illusions...that was just from stopping the constant snacking I think! This week will be the telling one. A bit easier knowing others are doing it too though.

Savoury · 30/07/2020 09:48

Well done to all! It's tricky to namecheck all the great progress as I'm on a phone but it's clear we are off and running, physically and metaphorically!
To my fellow 16:8 followers like @notevenamum1, @Sforsh49 and @Blackbear19, well done on calorie counting too. This week I am just doing 16:8 which I'm finding okay. It's quite interesting as it's really showing me that my weakness is all post 7pm cheese and wine, and bagels for breakfast Blush. With both of those removed, I'm probably dropping 400 calories every day. So I hope this will translate into the lbs lost.
Interesting that I feel thinner already - flatter tum etc. Whether that's true or not is to be determined.

Blackbear19 · 30/07/2020 11:20

Savoury I never thought about it that way, skipping breakfast & evening junk is probably about 400 calories for me too. I'm sure the evening junk (crisps, sweets, biscuits etc) is what's caused me to pile on the pounds.

I do feel thinner too, but I'm thinking that's a physiological thing, I always seem to feel thinner within a few days of dieting - then look in the mirror.
That's something that I need to watch out for, feeling thinner might be what causes me to fall off the diet.

FatCatThinCat · 30/07/2020 12:28

Can I join you all?

I've failed at dieting my whole life and am now morbidly obese. But I have hope again. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and since starting treatment 3 weeks my appetite has completely changed and I'm longer binge eating.

I've lost a stone in the last 3 weeks but have a long , long way to go. I need to lost 12 stone to be a healthy weight. I can't even comprehend that as it's so far away and so far removed from my normal. So I'm focusing on getting to 15 stone instead and being able to move around without excruciating back pain.

Snowdrop30 · 30/07/2020 12:47

I just did my first full 20 min run on C25K! Even if I'm still a chubster, I'm fitter than I used to be, and it feels really good! Would encourage anyone thinking of trying it: it goes at a very gentle, manageable pace, and I found the coach, Laura, really nice and encouraging.

Snowdrop30 · 30/07/2020 12:48

@FatCatThinCatetty hugs to @FatCat. Welcome 🤗

WobbleWhenIRun · 30/07/2020 12:49

Can I join?

Two months ago I realised that I have lost over 225lbs in my adult lifetime, over multiple failed diets. Unfortunately, I have also put on about 250lbs over multiple failures - leaving me now fatter than ever.

I want to lose at least 100lb and have been gathering myself for the long haul.

So far, I am 20lbs down - using MFP and a Fitbit to measure my steps per day which are mostly earned dog walking 1-2 hours a day. I am doing 16:8 (no breakfast, no evening snacking) and trying to keep the carbs lower and healthier than I used to.

More recently I have also started running again but taking it VERY slowly in my own, ultra slow version of C25K. It also gives the dog chance to learn how to run with me and slowly build fitness.

I've been trying to focus more on the non-scale victories than the lbs as I know weight loss by the scales is not linear - it stops and starts.

I have also been doing a little bit of gentle yoga with Adrienne and downloaded the Calm app to help guide a session of mindfulness before going to sleep at night. Healthy mind, healthy body is the plan Grin

Snowdrop30 · 30/07/2020 12:49

Oops. That was meant to be very unMumsnetty hugs to @FatCat. Welcome.

Snowdrop30 · 30/07/2020 12:50

I'm trying to keep the same attitude @Wobble

WobbleWhenIRun · 30/07/2020 12:59

@FatCatThinCat a stone in 3 weeks is awesome and a semi-goal of reducing back pain seems like a worthy and sensible aim to me. Well done!

@Snowdrop30 your first 20min run is a great achievement. I am really drawn to focussing on heath and fitness as measures of success so am impressed Smile

For scales I use the Aria wifi scales as they link nicely with fitbit. Mine are about 8 years old now and have seen me through mutiple diets - ha!

Snowdrop30 · 30/07/2020 13:10

@wobble, am also a series dieter. This time, I am trying not to see it as a diet, but as a way of learning what works for my body now (am menopausal)and for the rest of my life. All the times I tried before, I was learning what didn't work for me - they takes the sting out of the sense of failure, which can be really demoralising.

WobbleWhenIRun · 30/07/2020 13:12

I am stealing this Grin
