Hi all. Coming in late with this, but in August I read a book called "The China Study". It's all about how the so called "western diet" (ie animal-based diet) is causing a lot of our cancers and diseases(sp?). Tried to go only plant-based, (hear vegan), instead. We're not totally vegan, but we've replaced milk, cheese, eggs and meat when we eat at home. If we're out, then we eat as best as we can can. I lost 1.5 stone within a month and DH lost 2 belt holes. It's easy to maintain and we don't feel like we're missing. I think it's a lifestyle we can maintain for the long term. Read the book and see if it helps. Just my opinion.

mylittlefreya · 08/10/2007 20:14

"I think it's a lifestyle we can maintain for the long term"

That's great! I'm sure it would drop weight off me, but it would all go back on again! I know my limitations, but am in awe of those who are so much stronger.

Hope the poorly little ones get better - katyb how frightening for your dd, and also hope babyshoes settles down this evening.

pollywollydooooooooodle · 08/10/2007 20:25

hi jandd, interesting to know. i know you can get soya milk and vegan cheese but what do you replace eggs with in a vegan diet...in bakingetc

A special purple pom pom shake for spottyshoes great start to the week. go on, grab this diet by the scruff of its neck!

well done susiecutie 2lbs is good! Ta for the recipes. we're going to make your posh stewed apple tommorrow

brekkie muesli
lunch salmon and salad sarnies and pickles
pm frothy cofffee
eve veggie tacos, small baked pot, green beans. small piece of blackcurrant cheesecake

have got carrots and green beans chopped and ready to munch on if i fancy a nibble...

and this may be too much info but i am no longer constipated....should have waited to weigh myself!

MarkStretch · 08/10/2007 21:03

Evening all.

Well the weight watchers online is proving interesting- lots of tools to use and recipes to follow.

Have an even bigger incentive as chose and ordered my wedding dress on Saturday- should be ready in 6 months so I've got some time! Weighed myself and have lost 1lb which is good considering the slip ups last week.

Got hold of a tag-a-long bike for dd on Ebay and so am now biking her to school in the morning before biking round the city to see clients and then biking to school again to get her and biking home! Oh and this afternoon we biked back into the city to buy her some new clothes- phew!

Was quite good today:
Breakfast- porridge and banana
Lunch- salad, ham and cous cous, 2 satsumas and a peach
Snack- snack a jacks
Dinner- chicken stew and brown rice and a Go Ahead apple bake bar.

Well done to all those who have lost lb's!!

MrsSeanSlater · 08/10/2007 22:15

Well I can't check my weight because my scales are broken.
But I've just had a big portion of homemade moussaka, which contained plenty of cheese and olive oil, so I doubt I've lost a single ounce despite all my exercise last week. I'll do better tomorrow.
Well done all those who've lost weight.

JandDmom · 08/10/2007 23:12

To polly,
I use EnerG Egg replacer for my baking. My DH eats special oat bran muffins for his cholesterol, so I make these every 4 days. Used to use egg whites, but now use egg replacer and he says muffins are "fluffier", his word, not mine.

To freya,
It's easy to maintain this lifestyle because I know I can eat cheese or whatever once in a while. I don't feel deprived because if I want it then I can choose to eat it. I just choose not to, most of the time. I guess it's more of a attitude adjustment rather than a "diet". Since I know I can have it if I choose to, then I get to choose when I have it. I get the control.

Good luck and check out the book. It's a real eye opener!

pollywollydooooooooodle · 08/10/2007 23:15

jand thanks for that

rookiemum · 09/10/2007 08:40

I'm a bit late posting as I have not been well, I have lost 2lb down from 11.7.5 to 11.5.5 but its a bit of a cheat really because its primarily been caused by my having flu and not eating anything yesterday. Hopefully it will give me the kick start to keep going.

laloupgarou · 09/10/2007 08:53

Hi, I found it harder to keep on track yesterday so will need to sort myself out today!

Yesterday I had..
Breakfast - the usual 2 slices of Nimble wholemeal, scrape of half-fat butter, 2 triangles of Laughing cow lower-fat cheese

Lunch - Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese (whoops!) and green salad

Dinner - Curry and rice, and a few chips (whoops!) plus a handful of Haribos (whoops again!)

Didn't drink enough water either. Will try harder today. I would love one of those tagalong bikes for ds1, MarkStretch, I must check out e-bay. Is it easy enough to cycle with them on the back?

katybumpinthenight · 09/10/2007 11:44

hiya everyone and well done to all those that have lost weight

MrsSeanSlater · 09/10/2007 12:24

Well I weighed myself at the gym this morning and I've lost 2 pounds (I think).
I also did a 45-minute Cardio Tone class while I was there. And I've been eating very low carb today, so the weight should start shifting soon hopefully.

katybumpinthenight · 09/10/2007 15:47

well done mrsss.great that the scales are going down

MarkStretch · 09/10/2007 17:08

lalou- the tag-a-long is BRILLIANT! I honestly can't recommend it enough. And no they don't feel heavy at all on the back- especially when they pedal too- the hills are actually easier.

I swear dd would be much more efficient up hills if she stopped talking for 5 mins and concentrated on pedalling!

dd- 'ohmumlookatthatsquirrelanddidyouseethatleafandlookthat'sthingyfromschoolandilikejamanddidyouknowtha tchocolatespreadtastegoodwithbreadandwhenwegethomecanIdressupasabeautifulfairyprincesswhohaslotsofgo ld.....'

mylittlefreya · 09/10/2007 17:49

I was bad today. I got to go shopping by myself while DP looked after DD. So I had a steak sandwich and chips by myself and it was GREAT! But only a bowl of cereal for breakfast and no nibbling. Not sure what I'll make for tea, fish maybe.

Katy I am sorry your baby girl is struggling.

Markstretch I can't believe the pounds don't fall off with all the exercise you do - I am very impressed!!

MarkStretch · 09/10/2007 20:40

I'm here!

I have a weightwatchers question for those who have done it before. (by the way their website is v...e...r...y... slow tonight or I would have checked on there!)

I have been allocated 23 points according to height and weight and amount I want to lose. Does this mean I have to eat 23 points worth of food or can I eat less. Am eating about 17/18 points worth at the moment and don't feel like I need to eat more.

Your help is appreciated!

laloupgarou · 09/10/2007 20:40

Hi all

Katyb, hope you're little dd is better soon x

I had just typed in a long post and then lost it, grr

Anyways...today hasn't been great on the eating front. I am tired out because the 3dcs all have coughs and colds, ds2 is up half the night still. Have been nibbling at all the wrong foods, need a kick up the bum please! Going to write off yesterday and today, try to get some sleep and start afresh tomorrow.

Here's today's food:

Breakfast - bread roll and half-fat butter, cup of tea, 2 satsumas

Lunch - none, because I didn't have any appetite after eating about 10 chocolates (count them..TEN..at least) from the box that dd got at her party. Once I started, couldn't stop myself..

Dinner - a few oven chips, 2 slices bread and half-fat butter, ketchup, 4 digestives, cup of tea

Now - might just pour a glass of wine, after all..in for a penny, in for a pound and all that!

Well done everyone who has been good today. Please send me some words of encouragement, we're going to Copenhagen in 3 weeks and I want to be SLIM

BTW, will def have a look at the tagalong bike, mstretch (is it the bar that raises their own bike up or the kind that is like half a bike?). Sounds like he could go on back of my bike no bother (Dh already has ds2 on rearseat on his one, dd able to keep up on her own bike now).

laloupgarou · 09/10/2007 20:42

MarkStretch, DON'T eat less! Especially if you're exercising too. From past experience, weight loss starts to slow or stop. Eat your points and enjoy!

katybumpinthenight · 09/10/2007 20:48

hello(waves)thought you'd all left
agrre with laloup about your points markstretch.you have to eat the points to keep your furnace burning so to speak.why not spend them on a cheeky glass off wine?excercise also gives you bonus points so you can really treat yourself

i'll kick you up the bum if you kick me up mine laloup
been a bit naughty today.i felt like i needed the sweets but i know that fruit would have made me feel better!

shall we start afresh in the morning?

MarkStretch · 09/10/2007 20:49

Oh god lalou- does this mean I have to stuff my face with more food??!?! I really can't figure it out!

Plus if I add in my exercise (e.g. 1 hours cycling a day) it adds 2.5 points- does this mean MORE food?

And yes its the half a bike which adds on to the back of yours - truely a godsend for small people with little legs but legs not big enough to ride their own bike yet!
