well done shiny and welcome back and to mr shiny BUY SHINY SOME PERFUME OR SHOES!! NOT FOODIE TREATS!!!!!!!!!!

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 20:47

Yes, Was slightly veggie virtuous today

MrShoes is the same Shiny - I explained about the thread/please encourage me etc he swore he would (by eating all choc in the house lol) Then yesterday goes and hands me a mulitpack of bounty's saying "here hide these so I dont know where they are and eat them!" Cheers mate - I KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AND WILL EAT! He doesnt need to lose the weight so keeps buying loads of goodies - so not fair

tangarine · 07/10/2007 20:56

spotty - send me the bounty bars - I can't bear them and would look after them a long as you need me too . ds2 got a bounty in his party bag this afternoon and ended up giving it to dh as he didn't like it either.

My dh is on his 3rd large glass of wine and is having a big plate of cheese with it. He never seems to gain weight and eats loads. His idea of being supportive is to agree when I have a little moan about my weight instead of telling me I look lovely anyway. But he doesn't have a shiny halo like I do.

Katy - good luck with the house move!

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 20:59

I'm going to have a little bowl of the chicken stew mum left for us today. i'm so hungry for some reason so think that is better than eating more malteasers...

I will weigh first thing and post here.. oh i hope i have some good news... I wrote down my weight somewhre but dont know excatly what it was, i used a rough guestimate here...

well, i know i will know if its less though, i think! am i hoping for too much? well, it will be a big motivation to do well this week if its not good news?

pollywollydooooooooodle · 07/10/2007 21:06

did get back on track today...menu as planned except for the addition of a couple of juicy pears from the garden ....it's probably because i was busier today...

need to get back on the water as well, am a bit bunged up...sorry if that is too much info!

Anyway i could do with some advice on excercise please. I have MS and can't stand/walk/excercise my legs for long....so i have been doing abdominal and leg strenggthening excercises...but i don't do very much aerobic stuff....the only thing i could think to do was some very vigorous hand jiving with dd....any other ideas

Katy ....did you really mean you wanted to eat someone??stay wired!...do not approach the cupboards, they are dangerous places full of lardy things!

Spottyshoes, thats a bummer! You're not premenstrual are you? Anyway, next week...Ra!Ra!Ra!

susiecutie...malteasers it's all in the name! i'm sure they wink at you salaciously until you've had them all

Laloup...i can't believe how little you are existing on!

Tangerine...Ra!Ra!Ra! for excercising!

Science...thanks for the hints and tips

good luck to all the other katybumpers!

katybumpinthenight · 07/10/2007 21:13

i wanted to eat anything!!!!!
made a jacket potato though,i keep thinking of those scales in the morning aaaarrrgh
hope its good news,i'll be really pi**ed off if its not.either way i'll let you know. i was 11 stone 9 so fingers crossed

good luck everyone, what do's the biggest loser win?

pollywollydooooooooodle · 07/10/2007 21:19

Shiny, my hubby tends to do most of the cooking and shopping too....but ihaven't even told him i'm on a diet....he'd pprobably start policing me and doing that awful "should you be having that biscuit" thing, which is guaranteed to send me back for more!

he does however respond quite well to me saying i want to eat "healthily" and will up the veg and down the fat in meals and i serve my own portions.

the other thing is that he is very tall, so i get him to put high fat things on high shelves that i can't reach

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:21

polly, I have huge probs with exercise, due to arthritic hips and prolasped disc in back which currently has me on morphine.. so, the only exercise i can do is swimming, which is fantastci for SO many reasons.

I go with a friend and we take it in turns to take dd in the baby pool then we swim some lengths then pop back in with dd and vice verca...

its a good exercise as its so supportive for all your muscles. good cardio vascualr if you do some fast lengths...

I;m having some chicken stew... had to think twice about hte bread to dip into the juices!!! hmmmmm

healthy stuff though, no fat in it.

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:24

Bless you tangerine Not a huge fan either (but also not too fussy this evening!) - still hanging out for the wispa at the end of week 6 - they better be worth all the hype!
No more wine for me this evening just incase ds needs feeding later so am having a few pistachios yum!
I must step up the water intake too PollyWD - I havent had a proper glass in 2 days

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:25

Good choice with the stew SusieC
Very virtuous

MarkStretch · 07/10/2007 21:26

Hello all. I have admitted defeat for this week and joined weightwatchers online this morning.... I can guarantee I won't have lost anything by the weigh in tomorrow but I remain in hope!

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:27

ok another tip for you all...

use smaller plates or bowls. you think you are having a huge portion ( the actress sad to the bishop) but of course its not...

works well for me anyway! I also make myself wait at least 20 mins - half an hour before having seconds. if im still hungry after that time, i know i need a bit more. which would be better than not having a bit more and snacking after on rubbish

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:27

Btw does anyone have any healthy recepies for cooking apples? - I have quite a few and would like to avoid a fat-ass crumble

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:29

Hi MS - I joined that a couple of years ago. Didnt work particularly well but it was interesting to learn the points value of everything. Good luck! Tomorrow is another week

katybumpinthenight · 07/10/2007 21:30

great that you joined weightwatchers markstretch
i'm going to call it a night ladies ,i'm so tired i'm nearly cross eyed lol

good luck with the weigh in and thanks for being there this first week xxx

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:32

well best is to add a sweet fruit with the apples so no need for so much, if any sugar... there are some fairly health crumble type toppings about you know, using oats.. i'll have a little look for you.

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:34

Oh Thanks SusieC that would be great!
Night KatyB

laloupgarou · 07/10/2007 21:35

Hi everyone

Can't believe that's the first week nearly over! Well done everyone. I'm not sure how I will have done on weigh-in tomorrow, I didn't manage to weigh myself until Tuesday night so will only be able to calculate a six-day loss total (ha ha - making excuses already!).

What I have really tried to achieve this week is to wait until I am actually hungry before I eat. Had turned into such a snackaholic that this has been a revelation. I am enjoying my food so much more. Next week's target is to focus on cutting down on the wine a bit more (I do love my red wine ).

Today's food data:
Breakfast - 2 slices Nimble, half-fat butter, 2 triangles of low-fat Laughing cow cheese. Cup of coffee and water.

Lunch - mushroom omelette (3 eggs!) and more water

Dinner - Chinese takeaway: Stirfried veg in spicy sauce with boiled rice, glass of red wine

Snacks - handful of choccie raisins (again!!!!)

Dh phoned to say his flight has been cancelled, so not expecting him back until tomorrow morning now. So house is lovely and quiet, dcs in bed, everything sorted out for school tomorrow...can sit on MN in peace.

Polly, do you like swimming - great for toning.

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:39

i cook apples with a little apple juice and cinnamon and nutmeg for DD as a pudding, really quick and SO tasty. I dod it with eating apples and is actually a little sweet so maybe with cooking apples and a splash of honey or maple syrup?

These recipes look good, and can be adapted to be even healthier...anyway...

Baked apples with spiced honey

A slightly more elaborate variation, with a lovely fruity sauce.
Serves 4 Preheat the oven to 350F/180C/gas 4. Put 300ml (1 ¼ cups) apple juice, 4 tbsp dark honey, 1 cinnamon stick, 4 cloves and 1 split cardamom pod into a small pan, bring to the boil, stir and simmer for 2 minutes. Peel, halve and core 4 large eating apples, place cut side uppermost in an ovenproof dish and pour over the syrup. Bake for about 30 minutes or until fruit is soft. Serve with natural yogurt.

Classic baked apple

Adults generally love these just as they are. They?re quite large for children, who may find the apple pulp a little sharp. I usually give children half an apple each (bake whole and cut in half to eat) and serve with custard.
Serves 4 Use Bramley cooking apples and choose them all the same size. Heat oven to 350F/180C/gas 4. Wash apples, and remove the core with a corer. Make sure all the core has gone ? you might have to cut out any hard or pippy bits that are left with a small knife. Score a line around the ?waist? of each apple with the point of a knife. For 4 apples, mix together 2 tbsp soft brown sugar, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, some sultanas and a few chopped walnuts if you have them ? they add a very pleasant crunch. Stand apples in small ovenproof dish, pour a little water around them. You can drizzle a little honey or maple syrup over the tops if you wish. Stand the dish on baking tray just in case apples burst, and bake for 25-30 mins.

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:42

Excellent Menu Lalou! Especially for a Sunday how do you avoid all the rubbish? BIG red wine fan over here too and choc raisins/peanut yum!
I'm sitting eating a low fat yog (to counteract the effects of the nuts and wine) with a weaning spoon!!!!!! Makes it last a bit longer - very sad

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:45

OOhhhh yum yum yum SusieC Thankyou! Will be trying those out tomorrow! Actually tempted to try them now but think i've eaten enough for tonight Very kind of you to write it all out.

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:47

no spotty.. good idea with the spoon! honestly!!! half the battle with food and portions and feeling full is totally psychological ... if it takes a litle longer to get in there, your savour ot more, and by the time its gone you do feel fuller! takes a good 20 mins to start entering your system ( sugars ect) ant to feel full...

SO: smaller bowls and plates, AND spoons! lol!

susiecutie · 07/10/2007 21:49

no probs spotty... only the first bit was me... there was a bit of cut and paste in the latter

spottyshoes · 07/10/2007 21:52

Yay! In that case I will be borrowing Ds's weaning bowl tomorrow too!

pollywollydooooooooodle · 07/10/2007 21:53

thanks for the advice but swimming not too good for me now (used to do love it) i can't coordinate my legs very well and it wipes me out in a way that is unmanageable....i was thinking more of things i could do in the house/garden...

re apples, i add water, a bit of honey, a few sultanas and cinnamon and stew them...one of my faves

some other good recipes susiec
