Anyone else taking Alli during lockdown?

So the first eight weeks of lockdown I ate cake and drank Wine

Then I weighed myself and realised I was 12 stone 13 and 5 foot five, putting me in the obese category Blush

I decided to try Alli. The only thing that had put me off it before was the unfortunate side effects if you eat too much fat in a meal. Allegedly there is a risk you can shit your pants.

I figured as I currently leave the house once or twice a week, this would be the IDEAL time to try this particular tool out. I do see it as a tool, rather than some kind of Miracle Cure for Gluttony.

So I started taking it, only with meals that contain fat, and after just one week I am 12 stone 5!!! Bloody delighted.

I haven't had any accidents, but have had to scoot upstairs or out of bed a couple of times as you get far less time between thinking you need to go, and the , erm, event.

Also, apologies if TMI, I am having more frequent BMs and there is sometimes a sort of orange globuley film on the bowl which I believe is the fat.

Is anyone else using lockdown as a reason to try Alli? I couldn't possibly use it in my "normal" life which involves lots of packed commuter trains and long drives.

Not tried but blooming tempting

lockdownalli · 31/05/2020 13:28

I will update! I only bought 80 tablets which will probably last me two months at least. You don't take them if you have a zero fat meal as it's just a waste.

So far I am very impressed but obviously it's very early days.

I mean if there’s a good time to shat yourself, it’s whilst at home.

I might give these a try. I am already losing weight, slowly, but please do update OP. I'd be interested to see if they continue to work.

lockdownalli · 04/06/2020 16:30

I am gobsmacked how well they worked the first week. I will weigh myself again on Sunday and see if I have any further loss.

I had some cake this week for a friends birthday, and, erm, a whole bottle of Wine but other than that I have been pretty good.

No unpleasant side effects at all. Even if I have lost another pound that would be great considering I have slipped up a bit with the diet this week.

How careful are you being with meals? I mean are you taking it with a roast dinner where you complete with roast potatoes, or with a chilli made with low fat beef?

lockdownalli · 04/06/2020 16:41

I wouldn't eat roast potatoes. I would be too scared!!

Typical day menu for me is:

B: 2 weetabix with ss milk and a handful of blueberries (Take Alli)
L: An apple and a FF yoghurt (No Alli Needed)
D: Roast Chicken with salad and low fat mayo (Alli needed)
Snack: Banana
Drinks: Tea with milk

I usually have about 1200 calories a day.

Sorry - forgot to say - I did take it with chilli, yes.

Following as have been considering these for a while as i am 14 stone 10 and 5'4.......

YurtleTheTurtle · 04/06/2020 16:49

I tried it a few years ago and said never again! One of the reasons it works is that if you shit yourself, you are less likely to eat fatty food. It's like someone squirting you with water when you are bad! Except with poop!!

Not for me!

IndieRo · 04/06/2020 16:51

Going to give these a try. Tried loads of weight loss products but none worked.

lockdownalli · 04/06/2020 16:52

LOL Yurtle there could be some truth in that it is a deterrent.

However, as I am currently rarely further than fifteen steps from a loo I feel safe. Having said that, I haven't had any of those side effects, not remotely, so I actually could have been out and about in my normal life.

If you are used to a high fat diet it would probably be problematic but I have been OK so far.

picklemewalnuts · 04/06/2020 16:55

So you are on a low fat, low calorie diet, and Alli is maximising your weight loss which must feel really good. Well done.
I don't think I have enough discipline. I do better with low carb, high fat, but don't have the concentration for that, now. Alli clearly wouldn't work, I'd be loo locked!

randomer · 04/06/2020 17:35

Do you think its more the low calories than the magic potion which is helping?

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 04/06/2020 18:09

I used to take Orlistat which is the same thing really . My body adjusted and tbh it's been rare it acted straight away as it normally involved serious amounts of fat , especially since I only ate fat for dinner so I would just go first thing in the morning which was ok with going to work. I should go back on them actually now I'm back to my normal schedule and routine.

lockdownalli · 04/06/2020 18:22

Well I have found it easier to keep within the 1200 limit by eating lower fat.

I have had to dip to 1000 or below in the past in order to lose weight. I am mid fifties and my metabolism is really messed up. I had my BMR tested and came out at 1300 Sad so even 1200 is only just below my BMR. I don't exercise (disabilities) So I am pretty amazed I lost so much so quickly. And there was definitely fat being excreted, as the anticipated orange globules were in evidence.

I will let you know if I lose more on Sunday.

I'm curious about these, but I've noticed since lockdown that things are irritable in that area- so if I go for a long walk, I might find myself rushing to get home to the loo by the end. It could be playing with fire.

princesshollysmagicalwand · 05/06/2020 08:25

I have just ordered some @lockdownalli if you fancy a buddy? Mine will be here next Thursday. I'm 5'4 and currently 14 stone 9 which is just hideous. I must do something! I'm already exercising lots in lockdown and cutting calories. Have just piled on weight after having two babies in three years. I was always 10 stone before Confused

randomer · 05/06/2020 14:07

@lockdownalli, fantastic if you can lose anything tbh. I am 62, a lifetime of messed up eating behind me ( see what I did there).

What is BMR please?

superstar63 · 06/06/2020 14:09

randomer - I think it stands for Basal Metabolic Rate which I think means your calorie burn for just surviving/breathing etc without any movement.

I am also going to try Alli!

Sorry - yes. That is BMR. So if I got up and lay on the sofa all day, I would only burn 1300 calories. I think it came out at 1316 to be fair Smile

This is what happens when you spend a lifetime yo yo dieting between a size 8 and a size 16 Sad

princess yes happy to have a buddy. Good luck! I only lost a pound this week, but over two weeks that is still a 9lb loss which is amazing. If it peters out then at least it has been a good kick start to my loss.

Also, rather than the expected side effects of Alli, I have been constipated the past couple of days, which is apparently normal as your body becomes accustomed to it.

I only weigh myself once a week. Good luck losers!

randomer · 07/06/2020 09:16

How can I find my BMR please?

I am pleased to have stopped the mindless lockdown stuffing, maybe that will have to do for now.

Elouera · 07/06/2020 09:23

I tried these years ago, and even when I had a meal which wasn't all that high in fat, I dribbled orange oil. I had to wear a sanitary pad just incase I broke wind and had an accident! It was truly awful! Would obviously be easier staying at home though. best of luck x

lockdownalli · 07/06/2020 10:24

www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html

I had my BMR done in a clinic through an employee health initiative thingy. That calculator might help though?

Do you use MY Fitness Pal? That's probably the best way to keep yourself on track.
