Eddas - just wanted to say...try to weigh yourself perhaps once a month say and see how it goes.

Also I used to say, (used to hark at me!), that you are in it for the long haul. IE think of it as in good/healthy eating for at least the next 2 or 3 years (in reality it will be nowhere near that look at me, but by thinking that way you won't expect to lose it so fast iyswim??, and that way you will lose it quicker. Bit of pyschobabble there for you.

Confused even myself now.

Put those blasted scales in the garage, or even better chuck 'em.

Off for a coffee, good luck, come on Eddas come on Eddas !!!

And get eating those veg!

Eddas · 01/10/2007 15:44

thank you ladies i think i'm just a bit tired and pissed off today in general and basically the weigh in made me feel crap. So i will be asking dh to hide them so i'm not tempted to weigh in and then do it every few weeks just to see how i'm getting on. TBH I can fel that I've lost some since I started and I feel better in myself so doesn't really matter how much I weigh!

so far today i'e eaten, fruit and fibre, packet of wotsits, tiny bit of a jaffa cake, and chicken tikka jacket potato(went into town at lunchtime!) and that's it. think I might have soup for dinner as i'm not that hungry since I had a bigger lunch than normal.

Will be back on track and feeling happier tomorrow hopefully. I want and must lose weight. I don't pay too much attention to 'advice' and charts but they do say i'm obese and I'm not having that so I must lose weight also fed up being the fat one when i go out with friends, they don't say that i feel it IYSWIM.

sorry i'm being a self-pitying arse today. But it is the lack of sleep, am a PITA without sleep

OP posts:
Sunshine78 · 01/10/2007 16:24

Dont worry we all have days of self pity you just have to try and get on with it the next day. I read somewhere that people who have lack of sleep are generlay heavier than those who have a good nights sleep - good excuse for us mums then - cant remember the last time I had a full nights sleep.

doublethelovedoublethekisses · 01/10/2007 16:27

Eddas i know exactly how you feel! I am the biggest out of all my friends and am also bigger than both my sisters ( I was always the slimmest!)
We are all gonna have off days but as long as you pick yourself up again tomorrow you'll be fine!
I think I'm eating too much bread at the moment... I think I see swapping white for wholmeal as a green light to eat it for breakfast and lunch!
Will have to go back to cereal and fruit for breakfast but I need some ideas for a lunch that doesn't involve a sandwich

Eddas · 01/10/2007 16:38

i thought i couldn't eat soup without bread but it turns out that i'd never tried and it's fine! erm PINIONS any advice? The only thing I can think of is salad?

sunshine, not sure I can use that excuse normally because dc's are normaly good sleepers, which is why i'm so crap when they have off nights. Thing is ds has been a little monkey for the last week or so coz he's had a cold and been off his food, meaning he wakes at night for a feed. DH said he heard me this am(about 4!) explaining to ds that this wasn't going to happen everynight I blame Mil for being duped on sat night, he had feeds at misnight, 3 and 6 even with his cold he gets one feed a night here these grandkids know how to work their granparents He's eaten normally today so fingers crossed he starts getting back on track asap.

The other thing last night was dd decided she didn't want a nappy, cue me thinking i'm gonna be up changing the bed and guess what 2am and there's me changing the bed. She's 3 but not ready for being dry at night and i will insist on a nappy from now on. Makes it worse when they're both at it!

Plus their coughs seem better today so hoping they're on the tale end, til dd picks it up again from pre school

Sorry, man i can waffle!

OP posts:
Eddas · 01/10/2007 16:42

oh and yes dtldtk i'm bigger than my sis, wasn't for years but am now, little bro doesn't count but is slim too.

Oh and the other thing motivating me is that step mother's met me when pg with dd so has never seen slimer eddas, and was put out by a comment from her. I said i never used to be this big, step mother said 'really' in that tone, you know the one, the one that really is asking for a slap Mind you I shouldn't rise to her as she isn't mrs sensative IYKWIM

Right waffling again, so i'll shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

OP posts:
doublethelovedoublethekisses · 01/10/2007 16:54

Maybe I'll give the soup a go without bread then...It's just that it's soooo nice!
Oh well, "nice" won't get me 2 stone lighter i guess!!

Charlee · 01/10/2007 16:58

Hi just aquicky to let you know i am still around thinking of you all just mega busy!

Eddas · 01/10/2007 17:10

you may aswell try it, if you hate it just get some bread, then try something else the next day!

Glad you're still about Charlee

OP posts:
eandh · 01/10/2007 19:20

just a quick post as been at work and just unpacked the bags an got both the dd's and their snotty noses and coughs into bed.

I lost 4lb this week yipee!! (sorry eddas ) and your wonderful stepmother is delightful isnt she

Lunch - how about a jacket potato with beans/chilli/low fat coleslaw or maybe try a wrap instead of bread (not sure if thats worse) or maybe pitta bread?

We rove down to the coast yesterday and walked 3 miles (well dd1 walked the 1.5mile down the road and dh carried her back) and I walked ahead on a brisk walk pushing the pushcahir with dd2 ache today so hopefully it did some good

Sunshine78 · 02/10/2007 08:18

Was fine yesterday till I had to pop to the shop for milk then ended up having one of my chocolate binges any advice on how to avoid them please as that is what is stopping me losing the weight- although putting last night down to worst pmt ever

Eddas · 02/10/2007 12:34

sunshine, yours is normally my problem too. TBH I have no real advice, i'm just trying to avoid putting myself in chocolate buying situations! If I need milk or something I try to make sure i'm not feeling hungry when I go to the shop by eating some fruit. But mostly i've been avoiding newsagents etc! Also gonna shop online after dcs are in bed tonight to avoid the choccie isle!

Doing ok today, have soup in a minute for lunch. DTLDTK, what did you decide to have?

Feeling better today as dd has a nappy last night so didn't wake. and ds didn't get a feed, i actually turned his montior off last night his room is only a few steps away and so could hear him when he cried, I got up to him 3/4 times but only for his dummy so much better sleep! although poor little mite was very hungry when he woke but then I am in the morning so I don't feel too bad!

OP posts:
Eddas · 02/10/2007 12:49

bleugh, yuk, I DO NOT like morrisons tomato soup, yuk! plan b, marmite on toast

OP posts:
Sunshine78 · 02/10/2007 12:57

I've tried there soups before and they are yuk. When I'm in the mood I make ww nil point soup and freeze in portions so always handy - saying that have none in freezer at moment but as winter is coming may start making soon.

eandh · 02/10/2007 13:25

am currently eating tuna/cucumber roll but I really fancy is crisps but I will resist

Sunshine78 · 02/10/2007 14:23

I went to M+S to get lunch looked at crisps but resisted also resisted chocolate at check out am trying to be more positive as trhink might help

doublethelovedoublethekisses · 02/10/2007 14:59

I ended up with a sandwich ... again!
Had a really bad day at work so all i had this morning was a plum and as soon as my sister gets here am going back to work so i figured one more day won't make much difference and working hard should burn some calories!

Pinions · 02/10/2007 22:03

Just dashing in cos I feel for you eddas and know how you feel.

TBH what I did was to get TOUGH with myself more than anything else. You know yourself what you can and cannot do.The only person you cheat when you cheat is yourself but you probably know that already.

Also as you start to lose weight you will feel very TIRED so make sure you get to bed as early as you can, and secondly drink shed loads of water as being dehydrated will make you feel even worse. Did you know that the hormone released when you are tired is a hunger/appetite stimulant, which would explain that when you feel tired/crap you want to eat and eat. Not good. Also check your hormones I switched to the mini pill (micronor)and have NO food cravings whatsoever probably the first time in about 6 years.Every time that I used to diet I would "fall off" at that time cos of the cravings, without fail.

I would recommend the book "GI Plan Lose Weight Forever" as this gives the principles of healthy eating etc. I read a lot of these type books for motivation more than anything else and also you need to reeducate yourself about foods that you can and can't eat.

Are you exercising? You could get and pram walk when lo at nursery?? Swimming is also fab, do not give a crap about being in a swimsuit cos everyone there is in the same situation. After you have swum 40 lengths you feel like you are floating on a cloud. (ish).

Get to know your weaknesses. Apart from when I was tired the other time I used to eat was when ds was eally stressing me. Either when he was small and having a hissing fit/would not go to sleep blah blah blah and now when he gets to me in other ways. Get to identify when and why you are eating then that way you will know what to avoid.

God really feel like I am rambling on now but hopefully you will be able to gleen shreds of info from me. . Reinforcing my own principles onto myself anyway. I knew the only way to deal with it was to really crack the whip so to speak.

If you REALLY want to lose weight my advice would be:

*Stop eating BREAD altogether, full stop
*Stop eating potatoes, chips, pasta, fried food altogether
*Stop eating the crap, chocolate, crisps and do not CHEAT
*Force down at least 6 glasses water
*Make sure that each evening meal consists of 50% either veg or salad.
*Stop drinking (temporarily of course )
Exercise

Its easy to cut out bread if you have cereal for breakfast.

Now for the grim bit and THE MOST IMPORTANT There are two ways to lose weight. The fat has to come out somehow.

One way is surgery. The other way is well yes you guessed it. You need to eat FIBRE. IE VEG/SALAD/FRUIT. And WATER to wash it down, lots of it. The more you eat the you will ahem..........., and so the more you will lose the weight.Simple science really.

Feeling like a bit of a weight loss guru at the min .

Anyways enough of my rambling, gotta go!

HOPE THAT HELPS ANYONE!!!!!!!

And when it starts to work then please let me know.

(5 STONE IN 5 MONTHS AND YOU KNOW IT WASN'T REALLY THAT HARD, JUST STICK TO THE ABOVE AND YOU HAVE MY PROMISE IT WILL NOT GO WRONG DO YOU WANT TO GET INTO YOUR SIZE 10/12/14'S OF WHAT).

COME ON LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eddas · 03/10/2007 08:40

wow pinions, thank you so much for all that info. You talk sense

Am currently munching my way through fruit and fibre and you are right it certainly makes you more, erm, regular

It's really nice to have a real person who has lost a lot of weight to tell you how they did it and that it's not as hard as you think. the one thing I don't do atm is exercise. I find it hard to fit in, but, even if I go swimming once a week or something that's better than nothing so i will lift my big behind off the chair and aim to get out swimming at least once a week. The hard part is getting started. I'll check out the times today as dd has a swimming lesson so no excuse to leave it a few days.

Also, off out to buy some fruit since it's all been eaten. Not used to buying loads so haven't bought enough to last!

THANK YOU PINIONS

Hi All,
I have started the day with a bowl of cereal instead of toast and plan to have soup for lunch (no bread of course!)
Really don't think i'll be able to completely cut out carbs but will def try to reduce my intake... am a bit of a carb monster don't suppose thats helping much
is it worth trying wholeweat pasta?
hope you all have a good day today!

Pinions · 03/10/2007 11:24

You are most welcome .

Don't forget. You can buy frozen veg too its just as good and you can stock up. Fruit yes buy fresh. Remember to change the way you look at eating.

You are eating to LOSE WEIGHT and not for PLEASURE.

Anyway wll leave you guys to it for a while, will be keeping an eye on monthly? weigh ins .

I still have another 2 stone anyways so will keep you posted but it WILL go.

Happy dieting folks .

Pinions · 03/10/2007 11:27

And don't forget just cos it says "reduced" fat does not low fat necessarily can still be very high in fat. Be very wary of soups, sauces......look at you labels and get used to searching out the right foods. Some pasta meals and pies have as much as 50g fat in them (v v v bad).

.

Right am off but will be spying of you lot .

Pinions · 03/10/2007 11:28

(Typing in a hurry as ever so sorry for any typos).

Pinions · 03/10/2007 11:35

Wholewheat pasta is great but be aware of portion sizes and of course sauces. Normal pasta is ok as long as you have tiddy amount.

Pinions · 03/10/2007 11:40

PS Anyone else want to join Eddas on her weight loss mission, cos I am about to disappear and I think she needs as much encouragement as she can get .
